Retailer Births & Deaths

There were 0 administrations recorded in November. There were 10 new additions to the FSP Retailer Database in November, with 2 new retailers proposing to enter the UK market: pizza and craft beer concept, Base + Barley, will open its debut site in Exeter; and, Mountain Warhouse's new athletic brand for women, Zakti, has made its debut on the high street.

Retail Burn This month, as usual, the big national chains attract the most press. The most talked about retailers, according to the Retail Burn, include: Lidl, M&S, Selfridges, B&M, ASDA, Clintons, Matalan, BHS, Jaeger and Harris + Hoole. The retailer with the highest number of positive news articles in November was Lidl, having increased its market share to a record high and promising to invest more than £1.5 billion in the UK over the next three years. At the other end of the scale is Harris + Hoole, which has reported widening losses and the need for further funding to stay afloat.


Hot 100 The Hot 100 in November 2015 included; Opening Leeds flagship, Zara Home Putting in a positive performance, Edinburgh Woollen Mill Opening at Whiteley Shopping, Nando's Rumoured to be in sale talks, Bang & Olufsen Boosting wholesale operations, White Stuff Posting strong sales growth, Peacocks Posting soaring sales, B&M Acquired by South African retailer Truworths, Office These sustainable businesses have substantial sales, a healthy profit and have maintained good financial health.

The November RNI index for All Retailers, at 105, has increased by 2. Leisure, at 118, has increased by 7. Clothing & Footwear, at 93, has remained steady. Household, at 111, has decreased by 3. Personal, at 101, has decreased by 2. Grocery, at 100, has increased by 3. Food & Beverage, at 111, has increased by 6. For the full report, click here. Product Focus Product Focus – Black Friday Online Shopping Hotspots ­ Understanding Digital Leakage At FSP we were interested to see that Royal Mail recently revealed its top ten towns and cities where most online shopping took place during the Black Friday period, because we understand the


relationship between online spending and physical retail catchments and can help landlords quantify the threat or opportunity for their centre. The Royal Mail findings are based on analysis of items accepted into their network on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November from online retailers and ecommerce businesses for delivery via their Tracked 24 and 48 services.
