Retailer Births & Deaths

There was 1 administration in January: Brantano, who became the first retail casualty of 2016. Blue Inc. put it's subsidiary A Levy & Son Ltd into administration in order to restructure its operations, but the chain itself is not in administration. There were 6 new additions to the FSP Retailer Database in January, with 3 new retailers proposing to enter the UK market: French jewellery brand APM Monaco, Australian sportswear retailer Lorna Jane, and new high street format launched by Pets at Home, Whiskers 'n' Paws.

Retail Burn This month, as usual, the big national chains attract the most press. The most talked about retailers, according to the Retail Burn, include: H&M, Aldi, Amazon, Card Factory, Foyles, Pets at Home, American Apparel, ARK, Blue Inc. and Brantano. The retailer with the highest number of positive news articles in January was H&M, with expansion news and good financial results. At the other end of the scale is Brantano who became the first retail casualty of 2016.
