Retailer Births & Deaths

There were 0 administrations in November. There were 7 new additions to the FSP Retailer Database in November, with 2 new retailers proposing to enter the UK market: Netto and Simply Clintons.

Retail Burn This month, as usual, the big national chains attract the most press. The most talked about retailers, according to the Retail Burn, include: John Lewis, Amazon, Argos, Mothercare ,M&S, Homebase, Bank, Tesco plc, Phones 4 U and Austin Reed. The retailer with the highest number of positive news articles in November was John Lewis, with the news that it is poised to ramp up in­store omni­ channel projects next year, and that Black Friday helped to deliver its biggest ever week for sales in its history. Austin Reed is at the other end of the scale having entered into discussions over a Company Voluntary Arrangement following full­year losses.


Hot 100 The Hot 100 in November 2014 included; Increasing its European presence through Zalando partnership, Gap Continuing its strong performance and growth, Hotter Opening at Manchester's Corn Exchange, PizzaExpress Continuing its UK and overseas expansion as first­half profits rocket, Mountain Warehouse Launched new festive ad not featuring 'Here Come The Girls', Boots The Chemist Launched a virtual version of its Knightsbridge flagship, Karen Millen Expanding its presence at Birmingham's Bullring, Zara Targeting emerging markets to counter economic slowdown, Hugo Boss These sustainable businesses have substantial sales, a healthy profit and have maintained good financial health.

The FSP Retail News Index is a 3 month moving average measure of sentiment in reported retail news stories. The November RNI index for All Retailers, at 106, has increased by 2. Leisure, at 118, has increased by 4. Clothing & Footwear, at 96, has remained steady. Household, at 108, has increased by 1. Personal, at 105, has increased by 6. Grocery, at 102, has decreased by 1.
