ALUMNI HONORED AT SEMINOLE 100 Among the 100 fastest-growing alumni -owned businesses of 2019 were three owned by alumni of the FSU College of Fine Arts - Boudreaux Design Studios, founded by Jessica Boudreaux (BA Studio Art 2001), PLAY Inc., founded by T. Brett Player (BS Studio Art 1993), and Physical Equilibrium, founded by Sara Dimmick (BFA Dance 2001).

TOP 10 RANKING FOR “BEST COLLEGE THEATER” The Princeton Review, which gathers data directly from students, ranked FSU’s School of Theatre productions number 7 in the nation. This honor comes just after being ranked #8 out of 314 nationwide theater programs by College Factual.

ART STUDENTS LEARN WONDERS OF ANATOMY FSU College of Medicine opens its anatomy lab to art students for human body studies. Thankful for the rare opportunity, students created murals in the building this year to honor the gift that people have made to the Willed Body Program for legitimate educational purposes.

( DANCE ALUM RECEIVES NATIONAL “BESSIE” AWARD Shamar Watt (BFA Dance 2015) won a “Bessie” for ‘Sustained Achievement’ in the work of Nora Chipaumire, with whom he met as a student when she served as a Visiting Choreographer through FSU’s Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC).

DOCUMENTING ENDANGERED ARCHITECTURE IN PUERTO RICO Through our Archeological Field School, students traveled to Puerto Rico to conduct research, aid historic preservation efforts, and produce 2D & 3D models of important, threatened structures.

ART ALUM RECOGNIZED AS NOTABLE NOLE Rachel Rossin (BFA Studio Art 2009) was recognized as one of twenty-two alumni who has made significant contributions to his or her profession, in a Fall 2019 ceremony.

FSU HOSTS 19TH CENTURY FRENCH STUDIES COLLOQUIUM The 45th annual colloquium gathered 253 attendees from 13 countries in Sarasota, FL around the theme of Enchantment and Disenchantment. Keynote speaker Elisabeth Fraser addressed the topic of Orientalism, the nuances of cultural exchange, and the enchantment/disenchantment therein.

FLORENCE ART RESTORATION PROJECT A partnership between FSU Florence and Advancing Women Artists allowed students in Art History to identify, restore, research, and exhibit works of art by female artists in Florence art collections this past year.

INAUGURAL ALUMNI AWARDS CELEBRATE INTERIOR DESIGN EXCELLENCE The Department of Interior Architecture & Design honored three alums who have made significant accomplishments in the field since graduation – Judy Brett (BS Housing 1972), Ronnie Belizaire (MS Interior Design 2006), and Sue Markham (BS Interior Design 1975, MS Interior Design 2002).

Visiting Lecturer Chris Downey - a practicing blind architect – spoke at the Architecture, Media, Politics & Society Conference, hosted by FSU. The Master Lecture Series was made possible through corporate philanthropy and a partnership with the American Institute of Architects, and the Vincent & Agnes Thursby Endowed Fund, managed by the FSU Foundation.

GOLD SOCIETY ($2,500+)

FSU 2020 HUMANITARIAN OF THE YEAR Studio art student Myah Freeman was named 2020 Humanitarian of the Year for her work with the Senegalese charity Maison de la Gare, which helps talibé children access formal education, food, medicine, and more.

ART THERAPY LAUNCHES PRISON PROGRAM The first–of–its–kind program is a collaborative effort with the Florida Department of Corrections, delivering art therapy services to young offenders with the goal of providing alternate paths to receiving their GEDs while addressing mental health, emotional and behavioral challenges.

DOG DAYS THEATRE BRINGS ALUMNI & STUDENTS TOGETHER The FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training in Sarasota once again brought alumni together with current students in the MFA Acting program as well as professionals for its 2019 summer production season of Dog Days Theatre. This time, two MFA Directing students were also involved, traveling from Tallahassee to serve as Assistant Directors.

THEATRE ALUM RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS PLAYWRITING FELLOWSHIP The Dramatists Guild Foundation named Andrew Rincón (BA Theatre 2013) as one of the 2019–2020 Dramatists Guild Foundation Fellows. As a Fellow, Andrew Rincón spent the year developing a full-length play, culminating in an Off-Broadway presentation.
