When Jake Keplinger and Taylor Garrett returned to school at Riverside H.S. in Durham, they had plenty of stories they could tell their classmates. The two young AFROTC cadets experienced firsthand the training received by our country’s most elite fighter pilots. The students were able to accompany Mr. Nathan Taylor Garrett, Sr. on a tour of Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC. Mr. Garrett, Sr. serves as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of Fayetteville State University which offers classes on base. Mr. Garrett, Sr. visited SJAFB to see the programs offered by FSU. Accompanied by his grandson and his grandson’s friend, Jake, they were treated to a tour of the base. They witnessed firsthand the operation of the 333rd Squadron of the 4th Fighter wing. Seymour Johnson AFB is home to the F15E Screaming Eagles, whose mission is to defend our country’s Mid-Atlantic region and prosecute the war on terror in Southwest Asia. SJAFB is also home to the 916th Refueling Wing, which supports the F15Es and other military aircraft that needs to be refueled in mid-air.

2006 State Employees Combined Campaign (SECC) It’s that time again! Fayetteville State University’s support of the SECC campaign is a tradition of which we are extremely proud. In the 2005 campaign, FSU employees contributed $34,121 to non-profit organizations representing a variety of causes that support local, state, national, and global communities. Out of 19 educational institutions within the University system, FSU ranked 11th. Our employees donated $12,465.00 (58%) to the FSU Foundation, representing the largest allocation amount. This year, our goal is to raise $35,000 and with a bit of Bronco effort, we’ll meet our goal. The FSU Campaign will begin on October 11th and conclude on November 10th. Team Captains will be designated for each division on campus and will encourage support of fellow employees to help reach our goal. If you are interested in serving as a Team Captain, please contact Wendy Jones at 672-1729 or wjones3@uncfsu.edu.

Thank you for your support!

Cheers & Jeers Published in the Fayetteville Observer Thursday, September 28, 2006 Cheers to Dennis McNair. I would like to acknowledge him for being a super individual. After scratching both of my driver’s side doors with his vehicle, he left a business card so I could call him. He asked me to take the car to Hamont Body Works, and he paid to have my car fixed. It is rare in these times to encounter a gentleman of such morals. -- Carole McPhail, Hope Mills Dennis McNair is the university photographer for FSU.
