DIRECTORS
Nathan Haines, Music Director

Nathan Haines is an accomplished conductor, educator, and the new director of orchestras at Brigham Young University’s School of Music in Provo, Utah. He holds a Ph.D. in Orchestral Conducting and Music Education from Florida State University, where he served as the associate conductor of orchestras, taught courses in conducting, and pursued research in the art of conducting and music education under the mentorship of Dr. Alexander Jiménez.
After obtaining the Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in percussion from Brigham Young University, Nathan Haines also obtained the Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting with Kory Katseanes. Dr. Haines’s music career has taken him to venues across the globe, including performances in Asia and Europe. In addition, he has studied and performed with top professionals from around the country, including Neil Varon from the Eastman School of Music and the United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Haines is a strong advocate for the orchestral arts, particularly in new and innovative projects. In 2021, he cofounded the Studio Orchestra at FSU to create and perform music in film, video games, and other commercial media. He recruited more than 80 students, faculty, and staff to participate, serving as both president and music director. Earlier in his professional career, Dr. Haines served as the principal conductor and music director of the Utah Philharmonic Orchestra in Bluffdale, UT. Over the course of three seasons he led growth efforts that doubled the size of the orchestra and significantly increased audience attendance through his innovative and engaging programming.
Will Whitehead, Assistant Music Director
Will Whitehead is an orchestral conductor, pedagogue, and string specialist. He is currently the Graduate Assistant Conductor of the Florida State University Philharmonia, Music Director/Conductor of the Florida State University Sinfonia, and Director of the Tallahassee Youth Orchestra’s Intermezzo Strings. ABOUT
FILM DIRECTORS AND COMPOSERS
Loki’s Mistake
Artemis Phipps, Director
Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Kate “Artemis” Phipps moved to Tallahassee to earn a degree in animation from FSU. Her final thesis film draws on her cultural heritage and family ties to Norway, centering around a retelling of an old Norse myth, and her personal spin on it. Besides spending most waking hours in the film school, she also is president of the Swing Dance Club at FSU and has two adorable (more like extremely mischievous) cats who steal the rest of her available time.
Marisa Meglino, Composer

Marisa Meglino has recently graduated from Florida State University with a B.A. in Commercial Music. She has studied piano under Dr. Heidi Louise Williams and has taken composition lessons with various teachers including Dr. Clifton Callender and Dr. Mark Wingate. Marisa is passionate about composing music from many genres, whether it’s for a live orchestral ensemble or a digital musical medium. She has experience in writing and producing music for film cues through FSU’s Film Scoring course and has interned at the Askew Student Life Center where she created music and audio for movie trailers and montages. Marisa has enjoyed exploring the art of film scoring during her undergraduate career and finding ways to bridge her passions of classical-style music and modern musical technology and production.
The Tale of Two Blades
Alanna Faby, Director

Alanna Faby is a 2023 graduate in Animation and Digital Arts here at FSU. In her spare time she trains in martial arts, which inspired her to create this film. She enjoy directing and is interested in pursuing a career in storyboarding, concept development, and 3D organic and hard-surface modeling for films and video games.

Wood Simon, Composer
Wood Simon is a leading instrumental/orchestral music composer and violinist who creates whimsical and fantastical tracks for role-playing games and films. His music is dramatic, cinematic, and uplifting and will provide the perfect backdrop for trailers, TV, film, podcasts, video games, contemporary dramas, commercials, diverse multimedia projects, and so much more. Wood has written music for games such as Toontown Rewritten, a revitalized version of Disney’s original Toontown Online.
