PROGRAM

AGLOW Trio is a classical music ensemble comprised of flutist Karen Large, oboist Alyssa Morris, and pianist Amanda Arrington. Combining their extensive experience as soloists, chamber musicians, and educators with years of close friendship, they have created something truly special. Aglow Trio is dedicated to bringing light and optimism to their audiences. By carefully curating programs aimed at highlighting new and unique voices and promoting positivity, AGLOW strives to leave their audiences feeling inspired and uplifted. They have performed multiple tours in the US and abroad, are American Prize Finalists, and recorded and released their first album, The Light Is The Same, through Radium Recordings in 2023.

Amanda Arrington is a Senior Professor of Practice at Kansas State University. She maintains an active performing career, working with faculty, guest artists, and students in performances across the country and abroad. An advocate of new music, you can find her premiering works with colleagues and friends at conferences and recording sessions. Her studio albums include Ruminations with oboist Alyssa Morris, Wanderlust: The Flute Music of David Amram, String to Silver: Flute Transcriptions of Works in the Romantic Tradition with flutist Karen Large, and Anna Marie Wytko, Saxophonist with saxophonist Anna Marie Wytko.

Karen Large is Assistant Professor of Flute at the Florida State University College of Music. She is a passionate flutist whose varied musical experiences have included performances as a concerto soloist, recitalist, chamber player, and orchestral flutist and piccoloist. She is principal flutist with the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra, and performs regularly with AGLOW trio, Florida Flute Orchestra, and Traverso Colore: Baroque Flute Ensemble.

In January 2020, she released her second CD, Wanderlust: The Flute Music of David Amram, on Blue Griffin Records. Her first CD, which featured her original transcriptions, is entitled String to Silver: Flute Transcriptions of Works in the Romantic Tradition. Dr. Large regularly performs and presents her research at national and international conferences.

Alyssa Morris has delighted audiences around the world with her “exceptional” and “soulful” musicianship (Fanfare). American Record Guide describes her playing as “stunning,” exhibiting “unmistakable…virtuosity.” Alyssa serves as Associate Professor of Oboe and Music Theory at Kansas State University and as the principal oboist of the Topeka Symphony Orchestra and Wichita Grand Opera

Regarding her expansive work as a composer, Alyssa’s chamber music is performed extensively around the world. Her music is published by TrevCo Music Publishing and C. Alan Publishing, and has been recorded on the Blue Griffin, Centaur, Equilibrium, MSR Classics, Parma, and Tantara labels. Alyssa can be heard performing on the MSR Classics label in her solo albums A Higher Place (2018) and Ruminations (2022).
