Gianmario Strappati earned bachelor and master’s degrees in Tuba at the G.B. Pergolesi Conservatory in Fermo with full marks, honors, and honorable mention, also specializing with music courses at Harvard University, Berklee College of Music, University of North Carolina at Chapen Hill (USA), Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgio), Sorbonne University of Paris (France).

As a soloist he has performed throughout Northern Ireland, England, and Europe, including engagements in Romania, Albania, Spain, Germany, Moldova, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Greece, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Morocco, Austria, and Russia at the prestigious “Tchaikovsky Music Festival”(performing among other things Arutiunian’s famous Concerto for Tuba and Symphony Orchestra at the Izhevsk Opera House). Strappati has also been accompanied by the Bacau Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bulgarian National Symphony Orchestra, the Udmurtia Philarmonic Orchestra (Russia), the State Philarmonic Orchestra of Vidin - Bulgaria, the National Chamber Orchestra of Moldova, the Dianopolis Chamber Orchestra (Bulgaria) and the Symphony Orchestra of Kazakhstan, as well as international string and chamber orchestras.

On March 23, 2019, Strappati performed at the Bachmuseum in Leipzig for the celebrations of the 334th birthday of J. S. Bach, and on June 29, 2019, gave a recital at the Mozarteum in Salzburg (Wiener Saal), sponsored by the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna. In January 2020 he performed on Rai 2 a composition for Tuba solo as a world premiere dedicated to the fiftieth anniversary of the birth of Marco Pantani. He was the first tuba player to win the prestigious Nino Rota Award, previously awarded to artists such K. Ricciarelli, P. Principe, L. Luttazzi and J. Horowitz, and his city of Ancona awarded him meritorious citizenship. On May 5, 2022, Strappati performed J. S. Bach’s Suite for solo Tuba in Bach’s tomb at Thomaskirche in Leipzig. On February 11, 2023, he gave a recital as soloist (Tuba and Piano) at Mendelssohn Haus in Leipzig. He was awarded as “Artist of the Year 2020” by the Christopher Magazine (USA), which has reserved the cover of a special issue dedicated to him. He has been interviewed by magazines and radio and television broadcasters of the 5 continents, also recording for Rai, Sky Classica, CNN, Rogers Tv, ABC, Radio Capodistria, Radio Vaticana, and others. He has published for Academia and Micropress (the latter works distributed by La Feltrinelli and Mondadori).

Currently Professor of Tuba at the G. Verdi State Conservatory of Music in Italy, Strappati has served as “Ambassador of Don Bosco Missions for music in the world” since 2018. Prior to ß´this appointment he served as Assistant Professor for all brass instruments at the Italian State Conservatory. He is also the Tuba and Euphonium Professor for the international academic online course at the Higher Institute of Music Jose Hernandez in Buenos Aires (Argentina). He has held conferences, masterclassess, and recitals as guest and visiting professor for Universities and Conservatories around the world, including the United States, Moldova, South Africa, Romania, Albania, Bolivia, Argentina, Germany, Peru, Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Venezuela, Kosovo, Macedonia, Spain, Bosnia-Erzegovina, Uganda, Costa Rica, Chile, India, Colombia, Paraguay, Kosovo, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Philippines, Indonesia, and more.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Collaborative pianist Deloise Chagas Lima is a native of Curitiba, Brazil. She joined the College of Music keyboard faculty at Florida State University in the fall of 2005. During the summer months she has been a member of the artist faculty at the Brevard Music Center since the summer of 2008, and in 2013 she implemented a new collaborative piano program at this festival. Prior to teaching in the United States, Lima was on the faculty of the School of Music and Fine Arts of Parana for over twenty years, teaching collaborative piano and chamber music.

As a sought-after collaborative pianist and orchestral keyboardist, she has performed extensively throughout the US, Europe, and South America with many distinguished artists, including Frank Almond, Sydney Outlaw, David Pittsinger, Paul Edmund Davis, Ian Clarke, Steve Cohen, Bill Ludwig, Joe Luloff, Marianne Gedigian, Amy Porter, Bill Preucil, and Alex Klein, among others. She also performs regularly with her husband, oboist Eric Ohlsson. In Brazil, she was the pianist of the Minas Gerais Symphony for two seasons and was a soloist with that orchestra and the Curitiba Chamber Orchestra. She was appointed principal keyboardist of the Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra in 2015 and she is also an official accompanist for the Florida Flute Association. She is the music director for the Evening of Music and Dance, a yearly collaboration with the Tallahassee Ballet and the College of Music at Florida State University.

Lima received the Bachelor of Piano Performance from the School of Music and Fine Arts of Parana, Brazil, a Performance Certificate in piano from Trinity College of Music, London, and is an Associate of the Royal College of Music in organ performance. Following her early studies, Lima received the Master of Music in Piano Performance and Literature from University of Notre Dame du Lac and the Doctor of Musical Arts from Florida State University.
