ABOUT THE FSU PERCUSSION ENSEMBLE
The FSU Percussion Ensemble, directed by Distinguished Teaching Professor John Will Parks IV and Post Doctoral Scholar Justin Ball, just returned from their third Percussive Arts Society International Convention and tour as first-place winners of the 2023 PAS International Percussion Ensemble Competition. In addition to their PASIC wins in 2011 and 2007, the group has recorded four critically acclaimed CDs featuring a wide variety of cutting-edge and classic percussion repertoire, and recently gained international exposure for their video of Pat Metheny’s First Circle, which has garnered over 89K views since Fall of 2022.
The Percussion Studio is comprised of twenty-two majors at the Doctoral, Master’s, and Undergraduate level, and consistently places graduates in professional symphonic ensembles as well as the most prestigious graduate programs and music festivals in the United States. Additionally, fourteen MM and DM graduates hold full-time university teaching positions.
The recording arts comprise a unique part of the FSU Percussion Studio national identity, integrated as core skills alongside the percussion curriculum, providing countless pedagogical and professional entrepreneurial opportunities for our students.
