Gone Without a Trace (2025)
In the spring of 2024, I went through a heavy period of loss. After hearing unfortunate news, I found myself at the airport waiting to head back home for a funeral. My mind was scattered and I began writing without much intention. After completing the first half of this piece, It became clear to me that this writing was a distraction from what was going on around me.
Going forward, I began to think about the process of grief and how easy it is to escape into work instead of facing the things we need to face. In my writing, I balanced rigid and mechanical materials, representing the need to work and escape, with loose and tender passages, meant to signify still moments of realization and stillness.
All I Can Do is Watch (2025)
For much of my life I have experienced sleep paralysis. This state of being between a nightmare and awakeness always left me with two primary feelings: fear and confusion. Many of the things I would see would make very little sense, but they would always have a sort of menacing air to them.
all i can do is watch aims to highlight this feeling of helplessness in a way that struggles to find any real logic. Sections seem to spiral out in increasingly whimsical ways as the piece goes on. Elements of different styles and aesthetics combine to create a dreamlike narrative.
