Mission The Division of Student Affairs collaborates with students, faculty and staff to create welcoming, supportive and challenging environments that maximize opportunities for student learning and success. Through high quality programs, the Division facilitates student development, celebrates differences, and promotes civic and global responsibility.

2011-2012 Highlights

Welcomed 9,800 students, faculty and staff throughout the academic community through fall Convocation. Constructed state-of-the-art facilities: Traditions Hall (2012) and the Health and Wellness Center opening August 2012. Launched Civility Week supporting Uphold the Garnet & Gold initiative encouraging positive behaviors throughout the university community. Commemorated the ten-year anniversary of September 11, 2001, through a screening of the film The Power of Forgiveness and candlelight vigil led by the Spiritual Life Project. Supported the University-wide initiative Garnet & Gold Scholar Society (GGSS) inducting 80 students in April 2012.

Build Community •

Center for Multicultural Affairs coordinated the fourth annual Multicultural Leadership Summit (MLS). Of the 115 participants, 85% reported the summit allowed them to learn more about who they are as individuals and how they contribute to the FSU community. Oglesby Union provided diverse programming to over 26,605 students during Seminole Sensation Week, 99,460 students through the Student Life Cinema, 140,835 games bowled in Crenshaw Lanes, and many other events throughout the year. Dance Marathon raised $496,163 for Children’s Miracle Network and the FSU College of Medicine with a record number of 1,373 dancers. Student Government Association sponsored the Golden Tribe Lecture Series, featuring speakers Rebecca Skloot, Spike Lee and Elie Wiesel. Each lecture had over 1,000 student attendees.

In collaboration with President Barron and the FSU Film School, the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and the Collegiate Veterans Association launched the inaugural FSU Student Veteran Film Festival. This event helped raise nearly $15,000 for the new Florida State Veterans Center. Launched inaugural Transformation Through Teaching dinner hosted by the Spiritual Life Project and President Barron at the President’s House, honoring 19 faculty members who helped individual students uncover the meaning and purpose in their educations. Hired exemplary staff across the division including new directors for Campus Recreation, Career Center, Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement, and University Housing. University Counseling Center coordinated “NOLES CARE… You Can Make a Difference” Suicide Prevention Training for 1,079 students, faculty and staff. The Career Center hosted 157 employers on campus and 2,423 interviews while maintaining on-campus recruiting efforts, by registering 2,043 students via SeminoleLink.

Educate Leaders to Make a Difference •

Center for Leadership and Civic Education encouraged leadership through service by coordinating the annual Service Leadership Seminar. This year marked the largest and most diverse cohort of students, which included 42 first-year students, 12 student facilitators, and 2 student coordinators. Center for Leadership and Civic Engagement facilitated community involvement with over 5,213 students who participated in ServScript, completing 269,713 hours of service to the community. University Health Services advised student First Responders who volunteered a total of 8,744 hours, responding to requests for assistance and providing service at special events.

Campus Recreation certified over 627 participants in approximately 1,800 American Red Cross Health and Safety certifications including CPR/AED, First Aid, Lifeguard Training, Waterfront Module, Water Safety Instructor and Bloodborne Pathogens. Center for Global Engagement coordinated the Beyond Borders Exchange Program with FSU students and students from the University of West Indies, the University of Costa Rica and the Technical University of Dresden. The Interfraternity Council was recognized by the Southeastern Interfraternity Conference with an Excellence in Programming – Philanthropy Award for their leadership in the FSU Student Veteran Film Festival.

Integrate Learning •

The Student Disability and Resource Center (SDRC) provided services, such as alternative text materials and testing accommodations to over 1,500 registered students. SDRC secured grant funding ($14,000) from the Community Foundation of Central Florida for equipment and two student scholarships. The Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement (CARE) enrolled 343 students through the Summer Bridge Program. CARE supported Upward Bound (75 students) and the College Reach-Out Program served (75 students). The CARE Tutorial Lab had 41,680 student visits, 10,812 of which were non-CARE students from the general FSU student population.

Health & Wellness •

Campus Recreation interacted with 33,343 students, in their facilities and/or through programming in over 2 million unique occurrences. University Counseling Center provided 11,158 counseling sessions including individual, couple, and group.

Center for Global Engagement collaborated with International Programs on “Going Global: the Fifth Annual Showcase of Student International Engagement” to celebrate International Education Week 2011. Approximately 200 students, faculty and staff attended the event. University Housing hosted 472 students through seven Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) that provide first-year students with exclusive opportunities related to shared academic interests.

University Health Services provided 60,927 patient visits; achieved national three year reaccreditation through Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC). University Housing provided 6,945 undergraduate and graduate students oncampus residence and provided 148 studentparents with childcare at our accredited Child Care Center.
