The ’Noles struck back in the sixth, taking a 2-1 lead on an RBI-single from Justin Gonzalez that sent McGee in for a run. Things got tougher in the bottom of the frame when the Pack exploded for four runs to take a 5-2 lead. Tarran Saray ripped a two-run home run down the right-field line to record the first earned runs of the series for N.C. State. McGee’s day on the mound ended after 5.2 innings in which he allowed six hits, four earned runs and three walks along with four strikeouts. Chris Diaz ended the inning for the Pack with a two-run double off FSU reliever Mack Waugh. FSU tied the game at 5-5 in the bottom of the inning
on the heels of a three-run homer from James Ramsey, who now has eight homers on the year. In the eighth, Lopez was the man once again for FSU. The catcher doubled to right center to score Gilmartin and Gonzalez and give the ’Noles a 7-5 advantage heading into the final frame. Brian Busch and Daniel Bennett came up big for the ’Noles, closing out the final two innings of the game and preserving the 7-5 victory for FSU. Lopez had two hits on the afternoon, and Gonzalez, and Boyd chipped in two apiece as well. As of press time, Florida State was still into their third and final game of the weekend set.
