The City Commission operates under a Commission-Manager form of government. The Mayor is elected at-large and the four Commissioners are elected by their respective districts. City of Fort Lauderdale Customer Service Center

The City’s Customer Service Center is available from 6 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily to provide information related to City services and to address resident concerns.

Neighbors who contact the call center outside of these operating hours (from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m.) will be greeted by a menu with options for routing to a vacation rental hotline, the public safety non-emergency line, and a monitored voicemail service where messages regarding water and sewer concerns may be left for immediate response.

Services that the Customer Service Center frequently addresses include:

• Reporting a water or wastewater pipe break

• Resolving disrupted water service

• Reporting a concern with sanitation and trash pickup services

• Reporting a pothole

• Reporting a streetlight outage

• Requesting information about a City project

• Paying a parking ticket

Community Court Homeless Services

The Neighbor Support Division assists those experiencing homelessness by partnering with the 17th Circuit Court to address low-level infractions through the Community Court program and offer community service opportunities in lieu of incarceration. Through the program, participants are connected to receive a variety of local social services such as showers, haircuts, housing, substance abuse treatment and housing assistance. These services are available to other homeless residents as walk-ins. In partnership with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department’s Homeless Outreach Team and other non-profits, the program identifies appropriate services to support chronic homeless individuals.

Economic & Business Development

Beach Business Improvement District

The Beach Business Improvement District (BBID) promotes and markets Fort Lauderdale Beach as a premier tourist destination. The BBID funds and supports initiatives that improve the appearance of the beach including events, infrastructure improvements, safety, sanitation, and other activations in the general area along State Road A1A.

Business Tax

The Business Tax Division is responsible for the annual billing and collection of Business Tax under the Business Tax Ordinance, which is a tax for the privilege of engaging in or managing any business, profession, or occupation within City limits. The Division is also responsible for enforcing compliance with the Business Tax Ordinance.

Community Risk Reduction Programs

The Fire Rescue Department provides community centered programs to instruct residents on risk reduction strategies and strengthen community engagement. Ocean Rescue

The Fire Rescue Office of the Chief Division supervises and provides first aid, prevention, and lifesaving services along three miles of continuous public beach from the South Beach Picnic Area up to and including the beach in front of Hugh Taylor Birch State Park. Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center

The Recreation Division manages the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center as a facility for recreational/competitive swimming and swim lessons. The facility also hosts various diving and swimming events.

Recycling & Waste Collection

The Sanitation Division coordinates waste disposal events for electronics, medication, household hazardous waste, and metal recycling. Residential curbside recycling collection takes place once per week. The City of Fort Lauderdale provides residential garbage collection service twice per week to dispose of household trash.

Storm Drain Maintenance

Stormwater Operations inspects and maintains stormwater infrastructure, responds to street flooding concerns, and replaces aging infrastructure. The division is also responsible for constructing swales that reduce street flooding and stormwater runoff that can impact the water quality of City waterways.

Utility Billing and Payment Collections

The Utility Billing and Collections Division establishes new utility service accounts, provides accurate and timely billing of monthly utility bills, processes utility payments, special assessments, and miscellaneous accounts, and works in tandem with the Public Works Department to investigate and resolve utility billing issues.
