0 1 CHEN YAP ARCHITECTURAL & INTERIOR DESIGN Chenyap Architects is the architects firm i joined after came back to Malaysia. It is a small studio that focusing on highrise and factory design. In this firm i had learn to do the design alone and draw the set of working drawing (work from home). It is tough to work alone for the design, but it feel good when i can explore the design.
308 APARTMENT It is a apartment with 308 rooms, so it called 308 apartment. When i handle this project, the facade design is done, what i did is the podium floor design, interior design, sales office facade and interior design. It is not the first project i handle in Chenyap Architect, but i would like to share it because it is one of the project that i involved in most of the design stage, and it is going to build.

SHOW UNIT INTERIOR I had been requested to do a design that the colour palette is matching the building facade. Here is the design, i used the typical modern colour palette, which is orange and black. Because of the space is small, i used the colour on one side to guide the visual and used white colour on another side to enlarge the space.

0 4 STUDIO PROJECT SOCIAL RE-INTEGRATION CENTER This semester we are going to design a Social Re-Integration Center. This project is an interesting challenge as the user is very uncommon, Ex-Prisoner. We are going to design the Re-Integrated Facility for the selected group of users on the assigned site. In principal, the project shall include living complex, institutional facility, operational space, ancillary space, building services, outdoor leisure or sports facilities to be housed in a 5 Storey Integrated Building Complex.
What They Need? Review the previous study of ex-prisoners, i pick up 4 basic needs of ex-prisoners. In this stage, i study on the need of ex-prisoners and thinking on how to help the in term of program and architecture space.
H ow O t h e r s T h i n k ? Beside of the ex-prisoners we also interview some of the local people to understand their though about having ex-prisoner in their community. Most of the response is willing to accept the ex-prisoners, but they need to observe the attitude and behaviour of them.

H ow P r o g r a m H e l p ? After the thinking about the people, i start to think what kind of program is suitable at our site, so i start out with study the component at our site. I realized that the park + farmer market is one of the suitable program for the site. After that I start to plan the system for this design, it separated into 4 stage that having different activity in 4 different time to help the ex-prisoners to achieve their 4 basic needs.
What Is Going On Site? Based on the site analysis task, i focus more onto 3 major issue about our site. I start to think how to counter all these issue with the program i planning to do and how to contribute to the society.

H ow To R e s p o n s e ? In term to giving feedback to the society, and invite the public to visit this design i come out with 4 design strategic that inviting public to access my design. These strategic somehow also help to improve the human flow on site to generate positive energy.
T h e R e a c t i o n O f S i t e Fo r c e . After the conceptual idea of the master planning, i start to look at the practical part of the building, the entrance of the building, the loading bay of the building, the main facade of the building and etc. All of these is affect by the site force, the location of the pavement, the location of the space, the relationship between the space, and etc. I blend in the idea of the space study for ex-prisoners as well.

Open Plan Design. Ground floor is been design with the idea of open plan, it is to encourage the public to walk through the building, and allow public to see what is happening inside the building. the red colour that represented the green area is design all the way along the walkway to give the public kind of park market feelings.
C o n n e c t i v e E xc e r c i s e Z o n e . At the second floor, there is a bridge that connect parcel to parcel, the bridge is a connection between ex-prisoners and society as well, it bring them together by having excercise at a same place, and this semi open space allow the ex-prisoner to view the public activity from all direction.
R e i n te g r a t i o n C e n t r e | 2 0 1 8 | S c h e m et i c D e s i g n 35
C o m m u n i ty A c t i v i ty F l o o r . Third floor is basically design to be the community space for ex-prisoner and certain visitor or volunteer to have activity together. This floor provided some of the sport space, program learning space and also counselor space.
E x - p r i s o n e r s a n d V i s i t o r Li v i n g A r e a . Forth floor is design to be the living space for ex-prisoners and visitor or volunteer, it is a floor for them to enjoy their time to chat with others and family. The garden space is design to allow the user to have the fresh air and view the activity of the public.
R e i n te g r a t i o n C e n t r e | 2 0 1 8 | S c h e m et i c D e s i g n 37
E x - p r i s o n e r ’ s P e r s o n a l Li v i n g A r e a . This floor is design for the ex-prisoner to have their personal living area that will not disturb by the public and also visitor. It is prepared for those do not have family and friends, and those need time to accept public.
GREENERY ENTRANCE
OPEN PLAN MARKET
THE ENTRANCE FROM ALL DIRECTION IS BRINGING THE GREENERY INTO THE BUILDING. THE GREEN IS ALL ALONG THE PATH TO GIVE THE VISITOR THE PARK KIND OF FEELING, BUT THEY ARE ACTUALLY APPOACHING THE FARMER MARKET.
THE OPEN PLAN FARMER MARKET DESIGN ALLOW THE VISUAL CONNECTION BETWEEN PARCEL TO PARCEL. BESIDE THAT, IT ALSO INCREASE THE HUMAN FLOW BY ITS TRANSPARENCY OF THE CIRCULATION.
PATTERNED BRICKWORK
NATURAL SHADING
THE BIRCK WALL IS BEEN USE AS A PARTITION WALL TO GUIDE THE FLOW OF THE MARKET. DIFFERENCE FROM TYPICAL PARTITION WALL, THE BRICKWALL IS ARRANGED IN A PATTERN TO ALLOW THE FRESH AIR PENETRATE THROUGH THE SPACE TO CREATE CROSS VENTILATION.
GREEN SCREEN PANEL USED AS A SHADING DEVICE. GREEN SCREEN PANEL IS SHOWING THE CONCEPT IDEA OF SHADE BY THE LEAF OF A TREE, THE CLIMBING PLANT ON THE GREEN SCREEN CREATED THAT KIND OF GREEN FACADE.
LIFTED EXCERCISE ZONE UNLIKE TYPICAL EXCERCISE PARK THAT LOCATED ON GROUND, THE DESIGN IS TO INTRODUCE THE NEW EXPERIENCE FOR USER TO DO EXCERCISE ON HIGHER SPACE THAT ALLOW THEM TO VIEW TO THE MARKET AND THE HAPPENING SURROUNDING.
OPEN TO THE AIR
THE EXCERCISE FLOOR DESIGNED TO BE OPEN WITHOUT ANY VERTICAL OBSTRUCTURE THAT BLOCKING THE NATURAL VENTILATION AND LIGHTING. THE PLANT IN THE FLOOR WILL FUNCTION TO BE THE AIR BREATHING ELEMENT.
LIVING GARDEN
THE GARDEN IS DESIGN ALONG THE CORRIDOR OF THE ROOM FOR EX-PRISONER AND VISITOR. IT IS ONE OF THE SPACE FOR THE USER TO INHALE FRESH AIR AND LOOK DOWN TO THE HAPPENING PUBLIC SPACE. IT ALSO BECOME A SPACE FOR THE INTERACTION BETWEEN EX-PRISONER AND VISITOR.
GREEN PANEL
THE WIREMESH THAT ALLOW THE CLIMBING PLANT GROW ON BECOME A REPLACEMENT OF THE TYPICAL RAILING. IT HELP TO SHADE THE SPACE AND PROVIDE A SPACE FOR USER TO GROW THEIR GREEN.
R e i n te g r a t i o n C e n t r e | 2 0 1 8 | S c h e m et i c D e s i g n 39
G r e e n fa c a d e . The green screen panel is been use as a facade treatment not only just for shading but there is a deeper meaning in this way. It is come out from the idea that meaning hide the scar of a tree with its leaf, in this idea, it mean to cover up the past of the ex-prisoner and give them a chance.
Tr e e l i k e s p a c e a r r a n g e m e n t . From the previous study about the space suitable for ex-prisoner, we come out with an idea about having a tree like space arrangement to allow the ex-prisoner to view down to the public activity also provide them a space for their own community, and i apply this idea into my design and emphasize it with the butterfly roof as the tree branch like the growing the leaf, and then the ex-prisoners is living inside the big tree space.
