I hope everyone is enjoying our HOT summer so far. It’s definitely been a spring and summer that came in with a hot blast. CRACK UP’S The Ugly Duckling
Three old maids die and arrive in heaven at the same time. When they get there, St. Peter says, “We only have one rule here in heaven: don’t step on the ducks!” So they enter heaven, and sure enough, there are ducks all over the place. It is almost impossible not to step on a duck, and although they try their best to avoid them, the first woman accidentally steps on one. Along comes St. Peter with the ugliest man she ever saw. St. Peter chains them together and says, “Your punishment for stepping on a duck is to spend eternity chained to this ugly man!” The next day, the second woman accidentally steps on a duck and along comes St. Peter, who doesn’t miss a thing. With him is another extremely ugly man. He chains them together with the same admonishment as for the first woman. The third woman has observed all this and, not wanting to be chained for all eternity to an ugly man, is very, VERY careful where she steps. She manages to go months without stepping on any ducks, then one day St. Peter comes up to her with the most handsome man she has ever laid eyes on ... very tall, dark hair, and muscular. St. Peter chains them together without saying a word and walks away. The happy woman says, “I wonder what I did to deserve being chained to you for all of eternity?” The guy says, “I don’t know about you, but I stepped on a duck!”
Bird Brain
One day a man strolled in to the paint section of a h ardware store and walked up to the assistant. “I’d like a pint of canary colored paint,” he says. “Sure” the clerk replies. “Mind if I ask what it’s for?” “My parakeet, “the man said. “See, I want to enter him in a canary contest. He sings so beautifully he is sure to
win.” “Well, you can’t do that!” the assistant says. “The chemicals in the paint will surely kill the poor thing!” “No they won’t,” says the customer. “Listen, buddy, I’ll bet you twenty bucks your parakeet dies if you try to paint him.” “You’re on” said the customer. Two days later the man walks back in the store and very sheepishly lays $20 on the counter. “So the paint killed him?” asked the clerk. “Indirectly,” the man said. “He seemed to handle the paint okay, but I think the sanding between coats did him in.”
The Juggler
A driver was pulled over by a police officer for speeding. As the officer was writing the ticket, he noticed several machetes in the car. “What are those for?” he asked suspiciously. “I’m a juggler,” the man replied. “I use those in my act.” “Well, show me,” the officer demanded, still a little unsure. So he got out the machetes and started juggling them, first three, then more, finally seven at one time, overhand, underhand, behind the back, putting on a dazzling show and amazing the officer. Just then another car passed by. The driver did a double take, and said, “That’s it Maude. I’ve got to give up the drink! Just look at the sobriety test they’re giving now!!”
Stike One
A neighbor was watching a little boy playing with a ball and bat in his backyard. “I’m the greatest hitter in the world” the boy exclaimed as he threw the ball into the air. He swung with all his might but missed the ball and fell down himself. “Strike One” he says as he gets up. He throws it up again and swings. Again the ball falls to the ground with a thud. “Strike Two” he yells still undeterred. “I’m the greatest” he says as he swings once again hitting only air as the ball falls to the ground. This time he dances around the backyard as he yells “Strike Three.... I’m the greatest pitcher in the world!” www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

NOT GOING TO STURGIS? ENJOY THE ROADS IN YOUR OWN BACKYARD
Sturgis is upon us, and we know many of you will be making the trek up to the largest party of the Harley-Davidson year! A number of our Doc’s family have been fortunate to travel up over the years, and have accrued a cornucopia of stories to tell from their adventures. Whether you are new to Sturgis or are a seasoned veteran, we wanted to tell you our tales. Maybe you will find a new place to go or a new tradition for yourself. “Pack every kind of clothing you can imagine, or be prepared to acquire it on the trip. Depending on where you are setting out from, you will likely encounter all kinds of weather and terrain, and you definitely want to be equipped to make the ride go smoothly!” -Shannon and Rob “If you have been to Sturgis before (or you want to take it all in before everyone gets there) and you want to get some quality time with the vendors, go the week before. All of the vendors are set up and there is way less traffic to deal with. You get to see everything and don’t have to fight the crowds, not to mention the line to get gas is much shorter!” -Tina “Take the time to go on all the rides you can. There is SO MUCH to see and the scenery is amazing. You can see all of the landmarks and really take it all in. Definitely stop by the Buffalo Chip... there are huge bands there every night and you can see musicians you wouldn’t usually get to see. There is always some big musician playing somewhere! Go with someone you want to share this experience with. Going with my dad was awesome and created memories I will never forget.” -Phil For those of you not going to Sturgis, we want to help you recreate Sturgis right here at home! We know it’s gonna be rough, when everyone is going and having a great time and you had stay behind and finish whatever it is your boss has you doing. We at Doc’s are here for you! We have drawn up a list of places for you to ride to feel like you are at the real deal (ok, we know we can’t quite make it the real deal, but you can still have fun!) Let’s talk snacks, sights and sounds! Have you been to Bogart’s BBQ in Soulard? No? Well, you are missing out! You can ride right up, snag your food and sit out and admire your iron horse! They are situated in a small building, so be prepared to get to know people. BBQ not your thing? Mission Taco is right across the street, so you can devour a mean taco instead! The vibe in the area is open and exciting, while still being super low key. If you want some killer seafood instead, check out Peacemaker Lobster & Crab off Sydney. They are newer to the area, and the food is worth the visit, especially if you want to be transported from St. Louis! Want a scenic ride? We have a plethora of parks with great twisties and sights! If you haven’t been to Babler Park, Lone Elk Park or any of our Missouri Parks, you are missing out! Even just an adventure down Wildhorse Road or Ossenfort Road can prove to be magnificent and just the escape you need. There is always the scenic River Road with the ferry ride. As far as catching some awesome sounds, we are so lucky to have the music scene that we do! You should venture over to Broadway! You can catch amazing Blues n’ Jazz performers any day of the week, and get some delicious vittles, to boot (try the Muffaletta or any of the from-scratch legendary soups at BB’s or the lobster po’ boy at Broadway Oyster Bar while you take in a show). Looking for something a little different? Check out The Firebird or the Old Rock House for a more eclectic fare. We do have a few cool things to offer here in good ole’ MO! With a little imagination, you can make home a trip! We are constantly looking for new and interesting things to do, and St. Louis is always full of surprises! Happy riding whatever you decide, and always enjoy the journey! We at Doc’s are here for you no matter what you end up doing, and we can’t wait to hear the stories!

The All New and Im Hi Full Throttle readers. I wanted to inform you about an awesome motorcycle apparel and novelty store called Stout’s. They have been in business a long long time, 28 years to be exact. I’m sure most of you have heard of them and been there, but you have to check out their new store. They just recently relocated after about 24 years of being in the flea market by Bourbouse Valley Harley Davidson, and four years before that in pacific. They were sick of being so close to the river and getting flooded every few years. Every flood just kept getting worse and worse. This last flood was the fourth flood since they opened shop and it was by far the worst one. The owner Mike Stout and his son Jared said there was about 8 feet of water inside there store and they lost about $25,000 of inventory. So they decided to pack up what they had left and move to a new location, and its only about 10 minutes away. Let me tell you I really like what they did with the new store, it’s awesome. Mike says that he’s not done yet either. He still has a few things he wants to do. They really have a lot of cool stuff. It’s one of those stores you go in and you just want to buy one of everything. I can always find something that I “need” every time I go there. Mike Stout and his family have always had a passion for motorcycles and hot rods. He told me he has been riding motorcycles since he was able to. His wife and kids are the same way. They started out just selling a few motorcycle apparel items on the weekends. More like a hobby, kind of just something to do on the weekends. They realized quickly they actually really liked it, and were having fun, and could make some money while they were doing it. They did this for many years. But then about 10 years ago Mike decided to take an early retirement just so he could open the store full time, 7 days a week. Now that’s commitment. Retire from the Page 30

job you have worked 28 years at to go and work fulltime at another job. At least he is the boss and can call the shots at this job though. Well, somewhat, his wife has to approve of it as well. She is only 5 foot 2 but you for sure don’t want to mess with mama bear. I hear she isn’t afraid to say what she is thinking. Along with all of the motorcycle apparel, they also specialize in making custom mugs, water bottles, cups, and cozies. They can take any picture or art work you have and put it on any of those items. So anytime you want to take a nice ride and check out some cool motorcycle apparel and novelties, head to Stout’s, 1238 Clearview Rd, Union, MO 63084. I guarantee you will love their new store. Ride safe and have fun.

How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach
White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Hope you enjoy this article and looking forward to many more! The heat is here and some bad storms have came through so riding has been hit or miss this past month. Our bike nights are ½ way over. If you haven’t made it out to the biggest bike night in the area make sure you do, its the first Thursday of every month from 6pm-9pm. This month I want to feature the newest motorcycle that Harley-Davidson has introduced and its one fun ride. From hitting some corners to stop light to stop light power, the brand new Harley-Davidson 1200 roadster is the newest addition to the Sportster family and wow is it a great one! Let’s go over some of the new key features that make this a true dream machine right from the factory. From front to back the roaster has what it takes to give you miles of smiles.
Let’s get started with the front of the roadster. The all new 43mm inverted front forks with cartridge damping front suspension and the massive new triple tree let you corner more then ever and also get you ready for the next switch back coming your way. For stopping power you have Dual front brakes with floating rotors so you can come in hot and give you the confidence of really getting into a corner. corner or shifting into second from a stop light to stop light sprint they have the digital speedo/tach combo! Now for the one in the saddle this bike has an all new two up seat, with a seat height of 30.9”, has the low profile Custom look but still gives you all the support you need to lean into a corner with comfort. The mid controls on this bike also help with the confidence to corner faster and harder and tucked in tight to the bike. Towards the back of the bike to accommodate the new front suspension is the all new premium emulsion type rear suspension. Wrapping the all new 18” rear 5 spoke wheel that matches the front is a chopped rear fender that’s 1.5” shorter then the previous chopped fenders offered on some of the others sportsters. Also the side license plate mount really helps clean up the rear end and show off the fender/wheel combination! With 76 ft lbs of torque and 48 mpg from the factory you know you will have some fun on the all New Harley-Davidson Roadster. Come on in and see it up close and just by sitting on it you will know how much fun you are capable of having. Looking forward to next month as I introduce another New Harley-Davidson to you. Welcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! The summer heat is here and the roads are full of riders both local as well as those passing through to the next adventure! It’s that time of year again, that’s right! Road trippin time! Sometimes it’s the ride that counts, like hitting Tail of the Dragon or making that long trek across multiple states to see the coast line just to say you did. Sometimes the event itself is the destination that matters such as Sturgis, Bikes Blues and BBQ, Laconia bike week or any one of the many rallies on the market these days. As for me I’ve had the opportunity to check out one of the more “underground” events that seem to be taking the two wheeled world by storm. I was heading to the west coast to catch the “Born-Free” 8 show in Silverado California! Unfortunately we all know time is in fact money so instead of making the 3 day ride out I opted for breakfast beers and a 6am flight to Orange County were my good friend had a bike waiting for me to ride. I was handed the keys to a very fun 883 “street tracker” sporty build that had me smiling all weekend! I was lucky enough to have the time to log a ton of miles up the PCH to Snake Canyon for an amazing ride on one of California’s most iconic motorcycle routes; Mulholland Highway! What an incredible way to kick my Born-Free Weekend!
What is Born-Free? The annual Born-Free Vintage Chopper and Classic Cycle Show takes place at Southern California’s majestic 17acre Oak Canyon Ranch . Born-Free has quickly become “the” place for young and old, and basically all walks of life from all over the world to ride in, see, and talk about old iron for one day. The Born-Free Show is a back to basics show built on this impromptu action of people building and riding their vintage Harleys, Hondas, Indians, Triumphs (and more) into the show which then becomes “the show”. This is a place where the classics take the spotlight. The show is open to all makes and models and is laid back with voluntary registration and a handful of awards and prizes, but Best in Show gets a trip for themselves and their Page 38

motorcycle to the Mooneyes Hot Rod & Custom show in Yokohama, Japan this December! This show is all about inspiration and building things that others said could not be done. It’s amazing to see the iconic likes of Arlen Ness with his 70’s style “diggers” rubbing elbows with Scott “T-Bones” Jones of Noise Cycles and his new forward way of thinking on building classic bikes. Hell even Brad Pitt himself stopped by the show to take in the sites! This whole show is about inspiration! My favorite event is the “people’s champ” party held at the famous Cooks corner the Friday before the show! This event showcases up to 6-8 bikes that are up to vote for by the attendees of the show. The winner gets the final coveted entry spot to the “big show”, it’s pretty much like finding the last golden ticket to Willy Wonkas factory. These participants have put their blood, sweat, tears, time, and money into a possibility…a possibility at a slim chance that in all the trends and styles that their hard earned build just might with a snowballs chance in hell and get that final spot and please the masses. Talk about dedication! There are many shows like Born-Free popping up across the country like the “Mama Tried” show in Milwaukee or the “Hand Built” show in Austin that are redefining what a bike show really is. These builders are of a different breed, these builders are reverting back to days of not how much money was put into a build but how much time was dedicated to make a work of art. Time is much more valuable than money if you ask me, one can always make more money but once the time is spent it is gone forever. Take the time to check out anyone of these shows I’ve mentioned in anyone of these beautiful cities, you won’t be sorry. Thanks for stopping by and y’all enjoy the ride!

“TRIKES” TH
The popularity of trikes now-a-days is growing larger than ever as the motorcycle industry keeps producing new cool styles of three-wheeled motorcycles. It’s not like it was years ago when old men and women couldn’t handle their two-wheeled motorcycle and had to resort to a threewheeled motorcycle or no motorcycle at all. There are all kinds of different people riding trikes from the older men and women to the 16-year-old kid riding the Can-Am Spyder.
Many years ago a lot of the veteran motorcycle riders looked down at the trike riders, they did not believe that a trike rider is a real rider. But I believe as more and more of these veteran riders get older they are starting to realize that the trike is going to keep them on the road’s riding longer. Everyone is going to get to the age and point of their life where it is just not safe to ride on two wheels anymore; and realizing they can’t handle a big heavy twowheeled motorcycle. So, it’s either they ride a trike or they don’t ride at all. If it were my choice I would have to say ride a trike instead of not riding at all. The age of people who ride trikes now-a-days can vary greatly. From the older people who just can’t handle a heavy two-wheeled motorcycle, to the disabled person who can’t ride on two wheels at all, to the younger generations that just like the three-wheeled motorcycles such as the Can-Am Spyder or the Polaris Slingshots. There is also the rider that is new to motorcycles that just feel more comfortable on three wheels. Most of the older people that have trikes say they had no choice, its either ride a trike or not ride at all, most of them end up loving their trike. There is definitely a big difference in how a two-wheeled motorcycle and a three-wheeled motorcycle rides. Of course, there are some disadvantages and advantages to both. A trike is a lot bigger, and people feel they are more visible than a two-wheeled motorcycle. When riding a trike, it is more like a car or ATV. It handles a lot different than a two-wheeled motorcycle. There is no leaning or counter steering with a trike. You just point the front wheel in the direction you want to go and your off. You do not have to put your feet down when you are at a complete stop to hold the weight of the bike up and you do not have the fear of tipping the bike over or your passenger tipping the bike over. A lot of passengers on a motorcycle don’t realize how hard it is on the person handling the motorcycle when they are moving

around a lot, so a trike can be more beneficial to them because they can have a bit more freedom to look and move around, get comfortable and/or take pictures without the fear of them tipping the bike over and falling into the middle of the road. You also can take a trike down dirt or gravel road without having any concern of the rear wheel sliding out from underneath you. A two-wheeled motorcycles can get a little tricky on the dirt or gravel. Also stop and go traffic can be a pain on a two-wheeled motorcycle. But not on a trike, you don’t have to put your feet down when you stop, you can sit back and relax and enjoy the fresh air. Those are just a few of what many people would say are the advantages of a trike. But of course there are also some disadvantages of riding a trike over a two wheeled motorcycle. A trike gets poorer gas mileage than a two-wheeled motorcycle. Trikes also do not maneuver as well on winding back roads, which a lot of two-wheeled motorcycle riders love to take. They love to hit those big corners real fast and tight. Of course, you can still take a trike on the back roads, you just want to be a little more careful on the big twist and turns. A lot of new trike owner’s that just came off a two-wheeled motorcycle have a difficult time remembering the rear end on their new trike is a lot wider than the front. This can be a problem; you don’t want to take out the center island at the gas station, that’s never fun. In the past 5 years’ dealerships on average, have recorded that their sales on trikes have more than doubled. There are many different types of trikes that can be appealing to anyone. I have noticed that the Can-Am Spyders and the Polaris Slingshots are gaining more and more popularity. They are a lot different from the traditional trikes because they have two-wheels in the front instead of the back. But take it from me they are a blast to ride. Unlike a trike with two-wheels in the back, they are great on the back winding roads, they take corners great, and they can be very fast. If you are used to riding a two-wheeled motorcycle, a trike is definitely going to take some getting used to. But I believe once the rider gets use to the trike, they will like it just as much as their twowheeled motorcycle, and have just as much fun taking those long rides around town. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
