uying a Harley-Davidson is a fun and exciting experience. Whether you’re buying a brand-new Harley or a previously loved one, here at Doc’s Harley-Davidson we are going to give you the same great experience. We have a whole process that we go through to make sure that your Harley is ready to hit the road right away. For new Harley-Davidson’s the process starts as soon as we unload the bikes from the truck. It’s a team effort from the start. We unload all the bikes from the trailer with a forklift and give each bike a thorough examination to make sure there are no flaws. From that point we fuel the bikes up and install the master fuse. Once that’s done it’s off to the service department to really get them ready. Once again, our technicians give the bike a thorough examination to check for flaws. Due to the way the new bikes are shipped, some assembly is required. Our Service technicians assemble the bikes and go through them with a fine-tooth comb; checking critical fasteners, tire pressures, adjusting handlebar positions, shifter positions, so on and so forth. Once the bike meets Doc’s Harley-Davidson’s standards it’s ready for its maiden voyage. Every single new bike that comes into our store is taken on a test ride to ensure quality and proper operation. For example, an Ultra Limited must have its infotainment checked. Some of the things the technician will do is set the preset stations, verify proper operation of the navigation system, and verify proper speaker operation. This whole process is better known as a Pre-Delivery Inspection, or PDI for short.
When we get a previously loved Harley-Davidson in on trade, it receives the same

As always, my friends ride safe and see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob
treatment as a brand-new Harley-Davidson but might require something a little different. Before and after we take a bike in on trade the bike is evaluated to determine exactly what it will need to be ready for its next owner. One thing that many trade-in bikes require is tires. Tires are one of the most important pieces of equipment on your motorcycle and it’s not a process or purchase to cut corners with. Just remember, getting a flat tire on a motorcycle is much different than getting a flat tire in a car; a good tire can be the difference between life and death. Another common thing many of the bikes need is a full service. Every service performed here at Doc’s Harley-Davidson is above and beyond what is required so that you can rest assured that your motorcycle is ready to hit the road. Not only is it important that we get these bikes ready for a new home, but we must continue to help you maintain your bike along your journey. All the technicians employed here at Doc’s Harley-Davidson are Harley-Davidson factory certified technicians. Four of our technicians are Master Technicians, including our Service Manager Tim Lamb. With this level of expertise and experience your bike is in the best hands possible. Whether you need basic maintenance, or you want to do an awesome custom build, we can do it all. Once a bike hits the showroom floor, the care doesn’t stop there. The bikes are routinely placed on battery tenders to make sure that they are kept in peak condition and are ready for you to come test ride. This process goes on a rotation to ensure that all bikes are kept up. The Sales team also goes around throughout the week and lightly clean the bikes. This may seem like simple task but keeping them in top shape means ensuring that they look their best, as well. Dust or dirt can damage paint, in some instances, so it is best to go over the bikes often to ensure the paint is clean. Sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference! Our sales team here at Doc’s Harley-Davidson is ready to help you find the bike of your dreams. Now that you know the effort and care that we put into each bike that comes through our door you can be confident that you’ll get the best service and experience around. Come see us today! 930 S. GRAND How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the
latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Hope you all had a great Holiday and start to the New Year. The year ended with a bang at our Annual “Guy’s Night”, thank you to the 200 plus guys that made it out. Winter is in full force and doesn’t show any signs of stopping anytime soon. Hopefully we get a couple 50 degree days with clean roads to get the bike out like we did in December. Make sure you have a battery tender on your bike and some kind of fuel additive in the fuel tank if its going to be sitting for over a few weeks. Now lets get started on this amazing Custom Paint set on our showroom floor. This is the Limited Series Custom “GRANDSTAND” paint set with only 150 of them being sold worldwide. It was a hot item at the annual dealer show this past year. We put in an order for each model that was offered but got the phone call that we could only pick one. So we went with the Street Glide Special, thats numbered 60 of 150. So if this catches your eyes as much as it does mine every time I walk by it and you are the type that doesn’t want to have the same bike as someone else then come in and check it out before it is gone. You will have all the heads turning as you pull up to your favorite hang out or bike night. I have always been a fan of the Gloss and Denim two tone and this one I fell in love with even more. The Fierce Orange and Black Denim go so great together. Then they Separated it with a hand-applied treatment resembling brushed aluminum that’s outlined with a deep red pinstripe. It really hits a home run and one of the best Custom Paint Sets Harley-Davidson has offered. We decided on the Street Glide Special because it is the # 1 selling Harley-Davidson and comes from the factory with good looking wheels and blacked out from front to back. The wrapped front fender, stretched saddlebags and CVO style stretched fender just puts the icing on the cake from front to back. With the power of the 114ci Milwaukee Eight engine and the limited series custom paint set, your dream bike is ready for you and the open road. Page 24

DSTAND This month is the start to the seminar season and I hope you can make it out to one. We will have one on January 5th on Lighting and Sound. Then on the 19th it will be “Life behind Bars”, we will talk about the newest handlebars available and the benefits of making your ride not only look good but allow you to be comfortable and get more miles in the saddle. We will have a special guest coming to this one so make sure not to miss out. The seminars start at 10am with free Doughnuts, Coffee & giveaways. Give Sandy or myself a call to RSVP as spots are limited. Looking forward to seeing you all at one or both of these seminars. To start the year off right the St. Charles HOG group has there annual Polar Bear Ride. It will start at the Dealership with registration @ 11am and Kick Stands up @ 11:45. It’s a Rain/ Snow/Shine event so get ready for a short ride around the area and get the year started off on 2 wheels. If you aren’t a member of the HOG group come to the meeting the First Wednesday of the month at VFW post #2866 in St. Charles. Check it out and if you like what happens and going on for the year and want to join you can after the meeting. To end the month we will see you at the Annual STL Motorcycle Show. This year it will be the same weekend as the Auto Show so you get both admissions for the price of one. Come by and say Hi as we will have all the newest models available to sit on. Our Service Department will be doing a build on the floor and we will have all our Custom Builds on display. Looking forward to seeing everyone and enjoying 4 days of Motor sports and Auto together. The year is starting off with lots of events already planned and many more to come. Check out our website or Facebook page for details on all the events we have in store for you. Thanks again for another great year and looking forward to what 2019 has for us. It’s already starting to get filled with seminars, bike shows, expos and many other events that we can’t wait to share with you. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and please come into St. Charles HarleyDavidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email, zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set up a consultation! I’m here to make all your HarleyDavidson dreams come true! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

his dream and car started many years ago at a place that some of us can still remember like it was yesterday. Well, at least it was a little piece of Heaven for all of us “gear heads”. This little slice of bliss was The Alton Drag Way; this is where Henry Mueller first saw his destiny. Henry would go to the Alton Drag Way as often as possible to watch Wayne Arteaga race his ’39 Willy’s and he thought to himself one day, “I will own a car like that”. It has been years since they closed the track but that never stopped Henry from following his dreams and how he was going to make it all happen. Along with years going by so quickly, so was life. But luckily for Henry he met his lovely wife Mary and they both enjoy cars and traveling for car events. As you know it is the journey and not the destination along with all of the great people they meet along the way. There has been so many changes and designs in the car world over the years but in my opinion, you cannot do a Willy’s wrong. They always look cool and fast even sitting still especially the 1941’s like the one you see here. So, with all of the car shows and events Henry and Mary would attend he kept compiling ideas in his mind. I think he did a great job transferring the ideas to the pavement. They have owned this Willy’s for six years and it took two years to build it. Remember, we don’t live in T.V. land and if you want something as nice as this it takes time. The starting point is always a good chassis, they chose a L.R.S. with Heidts steering and suspension for the feel of the road and quick response Page 36

of handling. For power moving it down the road, they went with a Chevy Big Block with 510 horsepower built by Dan Garner and a 700-R to transfer the torque to the 9” Ford rear end with 355 gear ratio. Again, with the looks of a ’41 Willy’s, you don’t have to do a lot of changes to make it look perfect; except a few subtle changes can’t hurt, so they flush mounted the gas door into the fender and gave the rear fenders a three-inch radius for the bigger tires. The body itself started life with Doug White at Show Me Rod & Customs in Nixa, Missouri. The one big change they did was to add a very nice hood scoop built by Mike Schafer; it looks better than factory. But the factory never planned on these cars having so much power under the hood and needing so much air. Speaking of air, it has Vintage Air for their long or short trips. Remember, they love their travels and hanging out with car people. Mike Schafer did most of the fabricating and building of the car including the custom console and sound system that also has two huge amps just in case that “one” song comes on. The paint work and ghost flames were done by Dan Wissehr. Dan used House Of Kolor paint for the Tangelo orange. The night that I met Henry and Mary, she was quick to point out you can’t get a photo of the flames and she is right. But, in the right light and the right angle they look perfect, the same as the rest of the car does. I have to say, the night that I met this great couple would be a time I would not soon forget. Everyone wants to talk about their cars and that is what it is all about. But, that’s not all they tell you, so many great stories and about people they have met. Then they welcomed me into their garage, I don’t care about the house I’m sure it is very nice, but the garage has a lot of memorabilia and a lift with Mary’s Street Rod above the Willy’s. I could stay there listening to stories and checking out all of the cool stuff they have collected together. I wonder if Henry knew that watching Wayne Arteaga race would actually be a life time of fun and memories to come. And another cool thing is that Henry and Mary are still friends with his daughter, I can’t wait to meet her. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
