TAKE A LITTLE TRIP WITH ME

he Low Rider S is about as stripped down as you can get on a bike. With its radiate wheels and blacked out styling it’s already a head turner. You all know we can’t leave well enough alone, though; And my Lead Master Technician Mike Trankler had some head turning ideas.

The stock 2020 Low Rider S comes equipped with an impressive 114 CI Milwaukee-Eight engine. At just a little over 650 lbs; measuring 119 FT-LB of torque giving you plenty of power to pass, get up to highway speeds with ease, and of course for a little stop light to stop light fun. We decided this bike needed a badass Stage I thrown onto it. The Grand National 2-2 50 State Compliant is the exhaust that this bike deserves. No styling is left to be desired with its ceramic black finish, hidden crossover design, and race inspired Grand National End Caps. The hidden crossover design provides you with the performance benefits of a 2-1 system with the awesome look of a 2-2. You’ll notice an increase in performance of about 8 ft-lb of torque and a gain of about 9 horsepower; which is nothing to scoff at! Best of all, the exhaust system is 50 state compliant which means the Harley-Davidson Pro Street Tuner can be used, keeping your bike in compliance and your factory warranty intact. This bike has a blacked-out look to begin with, but it wasn’t black enough for us. The chrome pushrod tubes and tappet cover had to go. We installed the Screamin’ Eagle Premium Tapered Quick-Install Adjustable Pushrods with black covers of course. With the addition if gloss black tappet covers, the right side of the engine is transformed to a virtually blacked out look. We didn’t stop blacking the bike out there of course. The beautiful Radiate Cast-Aluminum wheels that come in a matte dark bronze finish just didn’t set the tone we were looking for. So of course, we removed them and sent them off to powder coat. What color did we have them powder coated? You guessed it, gloss black of course! To really emulate the club style look of this bike that everyone loves, we decided to throw some T-Bars on it! The 12” MX Street Fighter T-Bars from Wild 1 Inc. Were the perfect choice for this bike. While doing the handlebars we swapped out the controls CONTINUE ON PAGE 5

Be sure and mark your calendars for January 24th through the 27th and join us at the STL Auto Show featuring the STL Motorcycle Show. There will be a great showing of vendors and dealers at this year’s show. Remember you get two great shows for the admission of one. The show promises to be the best show ever. It’s a great show for the whole family with events for even the kids to enjoy. We hope to see everyone there. Plans are already rolling for this year’s Lake of the Ozark Bikefest on September 16th through September 20th. The 2019 Bikefest brought over 140,000 people to the Lake for four days of riding and fun. And we estimate this year’s Bikefest will be even bigger. All of us involved in Bikefest are working hard to make this year’s event bigger and offering more activities and fun for everyone. Many people have already made their room reservations and if you want the best rooms at the best rate I suggest you start thinking about getting your reservations made before they sell out. Full Throttle Magazine is proud to again this year be the “Exclusive” motorcycle magazine sponsor for Bikefest. We are also proud to present and sponsor the 2020 Passport Ride. This year’s bike giveaway will be a 2019 Harley Davidson FLHP Road King Police Edition Bagger. That’s certainly worth a $20.00 Passport Ride to try and win this beauty. St Charles Harley will be having two seminars in January that you will want to attend. On January 4th their seminar on performance will be a must to attend for anyone who wants to know how to achieve the best and maximum performance from their bike. Then on January 18th for all your audio blasters, they are having an awesome seminar on Audio. Always informative seminars so plan to attend. As always, ride safe my friends and see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob

as well. We got rid of the stock levers and replaced them with black cast aluminum levers. The stock grips were replaced with the Traction grips from Roland Sands Design. These grips provide an excellent feel with the black knurled rubber and a badass style with their blacked out low-profile design. The stock footpegs had to go, and mike had the perfect replacement in mind. The Mushman footpegs from Biltwell give the bike some BMX style accents. With the custom look and great grip the Mushman footpegs provide, the rider will be confident in both the way the bike feels while ripping up the curves, and the way they look. To top off the control changes we also added a Black Dominion Shifter peg. There is one feature on this bike that Mike was really excited about. That piece was the “Aggressor” series chin spoiler from Killer Customs, located all the way in Lithuania. The chin spoiler comes bare, so we definitely had to have it painted to match the bike. This chin spoiler truly changes the whole dynamic on the front end of the bike. The best thing about this chin spoiler is the fact that it leaves your oil cooler and regulator exposed to the airflow, retaining cooling effect and eliminating concern that other chin spoilers cause. This is just a taste of the kind of customization you can expect to see from us here at Doc’s HarleyDavidson. You Have to come by the Auto and Bike show this year to see what we have in store for you. It’s something you won’t want to miss! Come see Doc’s at the show!

How's it going Full Throttle readers? Zach White here to

give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. The mid-December snow storm got the holiday spirit going and was a reminder that Winter is officially here. I hope everyone had a great end to the year and a Happy Holiday. The New Year is here and a start to another decade. In case you forgot with all the holiday fun, make sure you go out and put your bike on a battery tender, top off the fuel, add some fuel stabilizer, and make sure the tires are at the correct PSI. This month at the dealership we kick off the start of the seminar season. The first one is scheduled for Saturday, January 4th and the topic is Performance. Then, we will have one on Audio Saturday, January 18th. Contact Sandy or myself to RSVP as space is limited. We will have free donuts and coffee, along with a drawing for a prize at the end. Towards the end of the month, we will be down at the Annual Auto & Motorcycle Show. Come down to America's Center January 23-26th to see the latest vehicles and accessories available for your next adventure. To end the month, we will have a Blood Drive on January 31st. Contact Sandy to set up a time to donate blood and help save a life. This month I want to chat about some of the upgrades we did to this 2020 Road Glide that is on our showroom floor. It's ready to be in your garage and hitting the open road come Spring. Lets start with the paint. This is a new color from Harley, called Spruce, and it looks great. We have this bike rolling on a pair of Black Prodigy wheels from Harley-Davidson. These wheels are some of the best Harley has introduced in my opinion. We also replaced the polished front end with Chrome. I think the Black and Chrome really go good together with the paint. For comfort we put on Grande Twin Peak handlebars from LA Choppers. This is a brand new bar they introduced in 2019 and is 1.5" Page 24

thick. We wanted to make this bike a solo ride, but still be able to ride to the next Rally. With that in mind, I knew just the seat to add. The Wide Tripper from Mustang is the ticket for that low profile appearance that will allow you to add extra miles to your day. We thought the brown saddle also went well with the Spruce paint. Since we went with the solo ride, we didn't want to leave the passenger pegs and mounts on, so we put the chrome eliminator covers to hide the holes in the frame. Some more of the small, but eye catching, upgrades that finished this bike came from Kuryakyn and Harley both. You will see the front Chrome chin Spoiler and Frame cover. This is available in Chrome and Black and gives a really clean look. Also from Kuryakyn, introduced late in 2019, are the Phantom rider floorboards. I think this was a home run collection they released this year and a sneak peek into what might be coming for 2020. We also added some nice touches from Harley to make this bike complete. The airflow hand grips, shifter, and brake pad all matched up great with the floorboards. To finish off the bike, and give it just a little more bling, we added some chrome trim around the radio & windshield along with the chrome buttons on the switches. Come in and check this and all the other custom builds we have on our showroom floor. With a warehouse full of parts, we should have what you're looking for, and can help you bring your next dream bike alive. I hope everyone has a great New Year and we are looking forward to seeing you at one of the many events in January. We appreciate each and every one of our customers. Thank you all for being a part of our 2019 year and we are looking forward to a great 2020.Thanks again for taking the time to read this. If you come to St. Charles Harley-Davidson, be sure to ask for me, Zach White. If you'd like to set up a consultation, you can contact me by phone (636-946-6487) or email (zach@ stcharlesharleydavidson.com). he road to a successful career is not always driven by a moving green arrow. You will have some good days; some bad days and those unexpected days that make you question your every move. But, with a strong faith in Christ, determination and a passion to build awesome hot rods, anything is possible. That’s exactly what has happened for Tony Goodrich, sole proprietor of Tony’s Rod and Custom, located in Bunker Hill, IL. “I am very blessed to be able to create and make a living building hot rods,” Tony explained. “I look back at the beginning of this incredible journey and I can see now how it has made me who I am today, very grateful and thankful.” Now in his 20th year, he is seeing all of the hard work and determination paying off. After moving from its location of 15 years in Dorsey, IL, the new shop in Bunker Hill, IL, has more to offer current and future customers. Whether it’s a simple brake upgrade, installing a Vintage Air A/C, an American Auto Wire classic update wiring harness or a full blown custom, he now has the facility to handle all of your hot rod needs. With more space, Tony built a chassis set up table that started life as an F-18 Hornet wing jig table. “If you start square, you have a greater chance to end square.” This allows for building custom chassis, such as the Bronco you see in the photo, bodies that need squared up and anything else that needs to be level. He also has a home built spray booth (28’x20’) with mixing room that is kept warm on those cold days of winter by a radiant heated floor. He also offers fabricating needs with a good selection of metal shaping equipment. It’s not always about the cars. Panera Bread approached Tony to build a custom 3 pc stainless steel lid set for their large mixers. Slip rolled, bead rolled and box brake to meet very specific dimensions, and they fit like a glove. OBTW, 60 sets, happy customer!!! What started this business was the custom paint work. Airbrushing custom helmets, motorcycles and custom ghost flames is a great way to earn a living, but he realized there needed to be more. He set out and embarked on a full frame off custom built 57 Chevy 2 drht. This project expanded his knowledge and skill set, with the help of sheet metal guru, Ron Covell. Through his guidance, Tony learned how to shape metal in ways this area had not seen before, except through media outlets. Next, a ’55 Chevy 2 drht that was a pretty solid car. The owner wanted it black, just as the ’57. He metal worked the whole car, no body filler!!! After completing the car, it went 996 out of a 1000 point judging sheet at the International Classic Chevy Show in Chicago. The shop gained momentum after that car, with the ’68 Camaro of Jim and Geralyn Gloe. This project propelled Tony’s Rod and Custom to the forefront in 2014. With extensive custom sheet metal work, killer paint and an OCD effort to detail, thanks to Jim, the car competed at the GoodGuys Nationals in Columbus, OH for Street

Machine of the Year. Even though it didn’t make it in the Top 5, it made the industry go on red alert. Later that year, “Faith” as she is known by, was blessed with a Builder’s Choice award at the GoodGuys event in Charlotte, NC. Over the next few years “Faith” has won her fair share of National awards and several magazine features, to help solidify the quality of work produced at Tony’s. With projects in progress, the shop has been busy since the move in 2015. “It’s nice to have space to work on 3-4 projects and not have to move any of them,” explains Tony. 2018 was a huge step forward for the business. The ’68 Camaro was honored to be chosen by Sherwin-Williams to represent Martin Senour paints in their booth at SEMA. It was a total hit; even the GM Design and Engineering judges were impressed with the attention to detail under the hood. Sherwin-Williams surprised the car team with the cover shot on their 2019 auto calendar, wow!!! The ’68 also took Top Award in Class and Best Engine at the prestigious 2019 Detroit Autorama. Now the shop is in high gear with several high profile builds, including a ’77 Ford Bronco owned by Brent Peterin. A full blown one off custom build, this one will set the standards for Broncos. “Bronco nation will either love us or hate us,” stated Tony. A custom chassis with 4-link front and rear suspension, 5.0 Coyote with a Bowler 4R70W transmission, Atlas II transfer case and a whole lot more that will definitely set this one apart. It is slated to be in the Sherwin-Williams booth at SEMA 2020. Also in the shop is a custom ’52 Chevy, owned by Charles Bradley. This was brought to Tony’s with no firewall, wheelhouses and floor. The question was “can we build a killer custom car from this,” asked Charles. With the help of an Art Morrison chassis, LS2 vette motor backed by a Bowler 4L65E transmission and a whole lot more industry leading parts, it’s well on it’s way. But, what is going to separate this one from other fine ’52 Chevy’s, is the extensive amount of sheet metal work and fabrication. The top has been chopped 2 ¾”, hood pancaked 1 ½”, body channeled 2”, 10 ga. firewall, custom made full length headers for the LS, ’55 Chevy eyebrows and bodyline grafted in the front fenders and the list goes on. The ’67 Mustang, owned by Jeff and Becky Johnson, is going to push Tony to the extreme. He is building this as an all steel “Eleanor” versus the normal fiberglass kit. This has not been done in steel before, so there is the challenge. Starting with all new stamped steel body parts from Dynacorn, it has to be assembled first before it can be mounted to the new Art Morrison full frame for early Mustangs. This will house the fuel injected Roush 427, Bowler prepped Tremec 6 speed and Ford 9” rear end. Once all of the fab work has been completed and in raw metal, the Dynacorn Company wants it for display in their booth at major show venues. Lastly, he has a different take on a Jeep makeover. Owners Scott and Jacob Schultz want to re-create the Jurassic Park themed Jeep. The father/son duo provided blown up print descriptions and dimensions for an exact replica of the beige/red dinosaur chaser. Look for it later this summer. As you can see it has been one heck of journey and he feels he is just starting. He mentioned, “That you have to surround yourself with positive minded, caring people who want to see you succeed. Without this teamwork, your road will be a dead end.” He would also like to thank all of the incredible people within the industry who have helped make this dream come true for a one man band shop. God Bless!! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
