So, we are off to the races for spring and I am surprised at the lack of events that are not being scheduled. The STL Motorcycle Show which is now part of the St Louis Auto show is not happening this year. The show was rescheduled into April because of the pandemic rules in the city and with their inability to get vendors like St Charles Harley, Mungenast Motorsport, Doc’s Harley, Graf Insurance and most of the regular vendor to participate has killed the Motorcycle side of the show for this year. In addition with the last minute decision to do the show and no marketing to promote it, it’s dead horse. This show was a very successful show a few years back in its opening year. It has continually struggled to keep vendors and the attendance has certainly slid downhill year after year. Last years show was a disappointment to most of the people we talked with due to the lack of vendors and the lack of attendance that flowed from the auto show side into the motorcycle side of the show, which almost appeared to be an afterthought with the lack of vendors and space dedicated to the motorcycle show. We will have to see what 2022 brings but this show needs a lot of work to bring it back to the level it had at year one. The need to promote the show better and certainly more quality vendors would be a great start. Best of luck to them if they decide to keep the STL Motorcycle Show in 2022. We would love to see this succeed for the biking community, but they need to ask for some help from the experienced biker world to make it work. Well, on to bigger and better things….I hope everyone takes a couple minutes and reads the article about the “NEW” Barn House Harley-Davidson if Jefferson City. This store is part of the Mid America Harley Group and is truly going to be a fun place to enjoy the Harley Experience. With a great selection of t-shirts, motor clothes, parts and more, you are certain to find something that flips your switch. The look of the new dealership is awesome from the barn house exterior to the silos and the outdoor stage. It’s a great place for an afternoon ride from St Louis, Kansas City or anywhere to see our friends at Barn House Harley. Jump in and look up Matt and tell him Full Throttle Magazine sent you. The same great selection and friendly service that comes from Mid America Harley. A lot of people are asking about Bike Night at Bobby’s Place. We are working on it but still struggling because of the horse shit rules in place by St Louis County restricting the number of people allowed at the bar. As always, ride safe my friends and see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob

arn House Harley-Davidson has been a vision for Steve and Laura Pecoraro from the beginning. Steve and Laura purchased their first Harley dealership in June 2016, MidAmerica Harley-Davidson! They both had a lot of prior knowledge in owning and running their own businesses. Before Mid-America H-D Steve owned a large transportation company in St. Louis and Laura spent 25 plus years as a managing partner for a large manufacturing company owned by her family. Steve has been avid motorcycle rider for a long time and when the opportunity to purchase a Harley-Davidson dealership first arouse, they were ecstatic. A short time down the road Steve and Laura were ready to expand. They had been trying find that perfect spot and after about three years they finally were able to turn their dreams into a reality. Barn House H-D’s main focus is providing excellent customer service and stocking the best selection of motorclothes, accessories and everyday H-D parts. They are also working on their own line of custom clothing and accessories as well. Another big goal for Barn House H-D is, they want their store to be a home away from home for their customers. Give them a place they can go to and hang out with other motorcycle enthusiasts and feel comfortable. To do that they knew they needed to have an amazing staff that would make each and every customer feel right at home when they came to Barn House Harley. That started with finding the perfect store manager. They found Matt Butkovich, he was the perfect candidate to help them get the store opened and continue to help them run it. Matt has been in the motorcycle industry for a long time, he knows what it takes to run a successful Harley-Davidson dealership. Matt has always had a passion for Harley-Davidson and motorsports in general. After a few Page 10

eams A Reality months they had the perfect staff put together. They really knocked it out of the park on the stores barn house theme. Right when you pull in you will start to see that. The first thing you will see is a few large silo’s out front. One has been completely transformed into a large stage that faces the parking lot and the front of the store. This is a perfect set up parking lot parties featuring live entertainment. Another Huge silo has had the bottom cut off and it is raised off the ground on stilts giving the look of a gazebo. Just another way to find some shade on those hot summer, sunny days. I was very impressed when I saw what they did with those silos. Having those silos restored into such a useful purpose really adds to that entire “Barn House” effect. The entire exterior of the store has been completely wrapped in a beautiful walnut wood. The theme continues to the interior with more gorgeous walnut wood counters and more. I could try to keep explaining it, but you just have to go and see it for yourself. Another project that are working on is Barn House Powersports right next door. They will sell a lot of different motorcycles, used Harley-Davidsons, dirt bikes, ATV’s etc., as well as offering a full-service shop with technicians on hand. They are working very hard and hoping everything on the motorsports side will be ready to go and can have the doors open during their big grand opening party scheduled on April 17th. That’s a grand opening party you don’t want to miss. It is going to be a great time! If your ever in the area or want to plan a nice ride, make sure to stop by Barn House Harley-Davidson and Barnhouse Powersports and see why, “What happens at the barn stays at the barn!” www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

"OOP's, Did I

've heard it said that "confession is good for the soul." But some things are so stupid, clumsy, or embarrassing that they could come back to haunt us if our friends ever found out. I was reading a blog post the other day that seemed to fit in this category. While the writer would probably never share it with his closest friends, he seemed comfortable with confessing it to hundreds of (mostly) anonymous online vieweres. I laughed, thinking of some of the goofy things I've done... which you will never see in print! The post went something like this: "Did something really stupid this weekend. I was on a step ladder changing a light in the garage when I stretched too far to the side and instantly felt as if I was a clown on a balancing beam trying to regain my God-given weight that's so inappropriate for my height lol. Then the point of no return as I realized I was falling faster than the speed of light. My life didn't flash before my eyes though. It was a flashing image as I saw the ladder was flying in the opposite direction toward my Fat Boy HD. Then a bizarre sensation of time slowing as I watched the ladder slamming hard on to the tank of my ride, wrapping the steel tank partly around itself. I remember the quick mental inventory: pain? Not excruciating. Broken bones? None apparent. Picking myself up off the floor, I was reluctant to look directly at the spot where the ladder and my motorcycle intersected. As I looked at the ladder against the fuel tank I knew I hadn't gotten "lucky." I pulled the ladder away carefully, trying not to make the situation any worse. Where the ladder had landed there was now a good sized dent." We can't vouch for the veracity of the chain of events in that post. I tend to believe it though. After all, do you make up stories that make you look dumb or incompetent? Plus the account seems true to life: the guy was directly responsible for what happened to him. This squares with both my personal and professional experience. At Dent Squad we usually talk with our customers about how their bikes and cars were damaged. Trust me, we are often our own worst enemies. The good news in the earlier account is that the Harley paint wasn't cracked. Even though shops and motorcycle dealers told him to take it to a body shop for repair, he hoped for a solution that would be less expensive. The Google machine steered him toward Paintless Dent Repair and a barrage of information. At Dent Squad we read and hear these types of stories all the time. Located in Crestwood, Missouri, we are the oldest Paintless Dent Repair shop in the states. Surprisingly, there are even people working in the Paintless Dent Repair industry who believe tanks, fenders and motorcycles in general are not repairable with our methods. But after 31 years doing paintless dent repair including damaged motorcycles, we can repair the fuel tanks on many motorcycles.

Page 14

www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

Do That?" Motorcycle fuel tanks are often believed to be double walled, making them impossible to repair. Actually 90% or more are single walled, but they are a much thicker gauge of metal than auto bodies. This leads many PDR technicians believe they are double walled. Performing these types of repairs takes technicians with advanced skills and specialized tools. And we would never even attempt a tank repair without a specially designed able to handle the extreme forces needed to massage the metal back to its original location. Motorcycle PDR Repairs are a combination of precise pushes with specially designed tools from behind the panel and glue pulling techniques that only trained technicians should attempt. Paintless Dent Repair has been used for decades in the automotive industry on dings, dents and even hail damage yet only in the last 15 years have some of these technicians designed ways to repair damage to motorcycles. Motorcycle Dent Repair shouldn't be categorized in the same group as automotive repairs since most PDR technicians have only worked on the relatively thin steel and aluminum from that part of the industry. Motorcycle tanks and fenders are made of a stronger High Strength Steel than most PDR technicians have ever encountered. These metals don't reform and aren't nearly as pliable as the automotive metals. They are much harder to work with, and acquiring excellent tools to do the repairs is difficult. There are a handful of highly trained, very accomplished PDR technicians in the US who excel in this demanding niche industry. Our own Randy Hobson of Dent Squad (MO), Daniel Gromm of Dent Dynamics (CA), Ian Cordle of Dent Solution (CA), and Stephen Hamby of Dent Hogs (GA) are our picks to recommend for top notch motorcycle dent repairs. These technicians all have years of experience, the accompanying knowledge base, and are respected throughout the Paintless Dent Repair industry. We believe it's important to note: when choosing a repair facility for your automobile or motorcycle, make certain that you don't have to pay for anything unless the finished repair is completely approved by you. Paintless Dent Repair should always accomplish the factory finish appearance unless brought to your attention that the repair may not be perfect as the technician would like to see. There are cases though where even an improvement is better than the existing damage. At Dent Squad, for instance, a customer is sometimes told that we don't do certain types of repairs--cracked and missing paint, rusty exposed steel, you get the picture. This often receives a follow-up request: "Can you make it look any better?" We refer to this as "putting makeup on a hog" (no pun intended.) This might sound funny yet it's sort of accurate. Take the gentleman that fell off the ladder which hit his Fat Boy and damaged his tank, for example. If that tank had a small scratch within the dent he might have chosen to go ahead with a paintless repair just to get it back on the road this Spring. Then next Winter he might pull the tank to have it painted. Each customer and each dent is different. If you have any questions or would like a free estimate on your motorcycle or automotive, call Dent Squad 314.849.5577. You can text a photo to the same number. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

How's it going Full Throttle readers? Zach White here to give

you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Riding season is peaking around the corner and we’ve already been given a few nice days. This was a big plus after the winter snow storms we had in February. The rain storms we had in Mid-March washed all the salt away. Let’s hope we don’t get that last little cold snap and the salt stays off the roads. If you take your bike out on a salted road, remember to wash it good afterwards so you don’t have corrosion. It’s usually too late by the time you notice it. As always, check those tires before heading out due to the change in temperatures. Last, enjoy the open road!

This month at the dealership we will start Free Hot Dogs every Saturday. Also, the HarleyDavidson Demo truck will be here the 16th & 17th from 9-5. Come check out what Harley has to offer and take one for a test ride. If you want to feel the power of a 117ci motor we will have the CVO models here. You also might want to check out my favorite cruiser this year, the light weight all new 114ci Street Bob. Looking forward to seeing everyone and the nice weather ahead. This month I want to talk about the newest release from Harley; the All-New Pan America 1250 and Pan America 1250 Special! Harley has brought the adventure out of touring and I can’t wait to put a leg over one of these machines. The Pan America 1250 starts at a great price for what you’re getting- just over $17k. This model is offered in two color options, Vivid Black and River Rock Gray! The Pan America 1250 Special comes in just under $20k. You can choose between three colors options on the special that are Vivid Black, Gauntlet Gray Metallic & Baja Orange tank with Stone Washed White Pearl headlight fairing. Both of these are powered by the all-new Revolution Max 1250 engine. The new V-Twin is liquid-cooled with 150 horsepower. That’s the most power out of a factory Harley-Davidson and this thing is ready for on and off the road with pure power and joy. This motor gives you the torque to get you moving and the horsepower to keep you going as you twist open the throttle. I can’t wait to throw a leg over and see what this new motor is all about. You really get a lot when you go for the Special over the standard. Let’s go over a few key features. First off, and new to Harley, is the Semi-Active Front and Rear Suspension with Vehicle Load Control. The Vehicle Load Control automatically senses the weight of the load on the bike to give you the best ride possible. With the Semi-Active system, it goes even more in depth. It has five programmed modes that you can select. These modes are Comfort, Balanced, Sport, Off-Road Soft & Off-Road Firm. To top it off you can get a factory installed Adaptive Ride Height. This lowers the seat height when you

come to a stop and gives you the best ride while going down the paved or dirt road. When you jump off the paved road, you will know your bike is protected from rocks and debris with a skid plate and brush guard. Also, the steering damper will help you when bouncing from one rock to a hill sweeping back down. A small but big feature for comfort is the adjustable brake pedal so you have a better position while off road, standing most of the time. Another awesome factory option for the Special is the tubeless spoked wheels. These allow you to ride harder off road. With this option you can service or replace the spokes without removing the wheel. This is a huge perk for your off-road experience. The last thing I want to touch on is New 6.8” touchscreen display. It has the latest and greatest technology. You will get sixaxis IMU (Internal Measurement Unit), customizable ride modes, Bluetooth, and a moving map navigation. I can’t wait to explore this feature a little more once they are released. Alright, let’s move on to some accessories for the new model. For Parts & Accessories, Harley has released some brand-new product just for the Pan America. From hard and soft saddlebags and top trunk to the protection with Skid plates and brush guards. You can really protect your investment while enjoying the off road. They also have guards for the radiator and headlamp, which are great to save some import items from keeping you down from riding. If you get a standard model you can upgrade to the adaptive headlight or add some auxiliary lights to either model. This is just a few of the many accessories available. Come in and let us show them off in person. Some brand-new protective gear for you, the rider, is now available and made for the adventures ahead. The Grit & Passage Adventure lines are available in a jacket, pant, gloves, & helmet combination. No weather will stop you from riding with Waterproof, Windproof, Vented and, removable liners. You won’t be compromised on your next ride. Last, to protect your ankles and shines, they released the men’s Gravel and women’s Quest Outdry riding boots. Come in and chat with a Motorclothes specialist to get more details on this product. Come in and check out first-hand what 2021 has in store for you in the Harley World! Take a test ride and check out all the new product. I’m looking forward to showing you what makes HarleyDavidson continue to stand out from the rest. Thanks again for taking the time to read this. Please come into St. Charles Harley-Davidson and ask for me, Zach White, or give me a call at 636-946-6487 or email zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set up a consultation. THE ORANGE CRATE PAGE 26-27

Written by Roger Ferris

Full Throttle Magzine

THE ORANGE CRATE “’57 Chevrolet! Sweet, Smooth And Sassy!” “Chevy puts the PURR in Performance!” “You get more to be proud of in a Chevy!” These are just a few slogans for the ’57 Chevrolet when they were introduced & they are all still true today. Although Tom Smith is too young to remember these from 1957; but one look at his ’57 Chevy and you know he loves them. Tom is a true car guy & he loves a lot of cars, but he has a special connection with this one. It all started back in 1979 when he found an ad in the news paper for a ’57 for sale. (remember news paper car ads)? He went to look at the car and it was really nice - too nice. He couldn’t afford it but he saw another one inside the shop where this one was located. It was in need of some repair. It had a broken windshield and the whole left side was damaged. This was more in his budget except it wasn’t for sale; they said they were going to fix it. Tom told them if they ever wanted to sell it to call him. Three days later he got a call. For a low price of $400.00 it was his. The ’57 ran & drove fine. At the time it was green, black interior, 283 cu. in., 3 speed transmission, factory power steering and power brakes. So Tom drove it as is for a few years until it got hit head on by a drunk driver. This was a good time for a complete makeover. He took the car completely apart. This time it went back together with a 350 cu. in. and a 4 speed. The new paint was Hugger Orange with Gold Micro Page 26

www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

Flake in the clear. Something about this poor ’57; its days were numbered and a few years later it caught fire as he was driving it. Damage was done to the hood and a lot was damaged in the engine bay & firewall. Tom was no stranger when it came to taking the car apart, again. He totally stripped it down and even took the body off of the frame this time. We all have bad times in our lives, but Tom was having some really tough times and he lost interest in the car for about 14 years. So it just sat. The day came when he had to decide to fix it or sell it. Me for one; I’m glad he decided to keep it. For the next 4 years he worked on it when he could and the end result really turned out a fantastic Bel Air. So many cars this nice travel in a trailer; and there's nothing wrong with that. But the only trailer in his driveway is for camping, so this ’57 is Driven everywhere! Places include Memphis, Indy, Des Moines, Chicago, Kansas City, Springfield IL, and Springfield MO. When Tom took Car Shows serious he did very well. But now since he loves driving the car so much it shows a little wear, so it is shown Display Only. I guarantee it still gets a lot of attention. A part of the reason Tom loves driving this car so much is due to all of the changes he did with his last re-build. It starts off with the 468 cu. in. with J&E forged pistons, Comp Cams cam lifters & push rods, Chevrolet aluminum heads, Edelbrock Performer intake, Holley HP 830 carb and MSD Pro-billet distributor. To get the power to the pavement he has a Tremec TKO 5-speed and a 9” rear end with 4:11 gears and Moser axles. To make sure it stops, he has 4 polished Wilwood calipers with 13” drilled & slotted rotors. To handle all of our great roads around town and those long trips, he has rear Chris Alston ladder bars & dual adjustable coil over shocks on all 4 corners. He even updated the steering to a Unisteer rack & pinion with a Billet Specialties Revolver steering wheel to maneuver the 20X10 rear & 18X17 front INTRO-Wheeler series wheels. For the living area, since he is behind the wheel a lot, he has ’95 Firebird bucket seats for comfort, a roll cage for safety and really nice Beige Ultra leather and Ostrich to finish it all off. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
