Showdown!

Coming July 21st: a day you’re not going to want to miss! The

Cycle Showdown at Doc’s Harley-Davidson is going to be an event to remember. We don’t care what kind of bike you have, we want to see the local motorcycle community come together for one big event! Wait until you hear what we have in store for you. Do you have a buddy who’s always claiming their bike puts out bigger numbers than yours, but you want to prove them wrong? Well now’s your chance! We’re going to have the guys from All Out Dyno Drags in the house! “All Out Dyno Drags invites you to be a part of a rare, exciting, and adrenaline rushing event with a custom – state of the art – dual motorcycle dynamometer. This is otherwise known as stationary drag racing. The dynamometer was designed by Mustang Dynamometer Corporation and Scott Frazier. The motorcycle and rider are loaded with front wheels locked into place and the rear strapped down for balance. Air blowers are focused on your bike to help keep all that horsepower cool during each race. All precautionary safety measures are taken for both the riders, motorcycles, and spectators to ensure all the adrenaline and excitement can be focused on improving your times during your three race battle. The weight of your bike is entered so the race can be more rider against rider abilities. This realistic race scenario starts out with a solid launch off the drag racing lighted tree while the launch times (60 feet, 180 feet, 1/8 mile and ¼ mile) are recorded by a computer to determine the winner. A custom All Out Dyno Drag sticker is documented with your race stats and is presented to each rider with their best time and speed for bragging rights!” Don’t feel like participating but still want to watch? All Out Dyno Drag has you covered! They will have 2 32” monitors for you to view race speed and time all in real time! There will also be a 1,500 watt entertainment system rocking out the jams while the races unfold.

We have plenty more in store for you throughout the day.

This event is sponsored by Full Throttle Magazine I want to take a little time to thank everyone who makes our weekly bike night part of their normal program each week. Historic Route 66 Bike Night is held every Wednesday evening at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park and has become the number one weekly bike night in the St Louis area. Our turnout has continued to grow and we are seeing our friends and fellow riders every week to help support this event. I want to also thank Bill of The Neon Cycle and Dona the Patch Queen for making this their weekly place to hang out and provide their serves to our riders. We are trying new events each month at Bike Night to make the event more fun and offer a twist to the evening. If you have never been to this bike night I encourage you to stop by and see some old friends and make some new ones. It’s an awesome group of people who make this event such a success. Thanks again to all those who help make this evening a blast of all of us. I’ll see you weekly on Weds night throughout the riding season. As always, ride safe my friends and I will see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob

Big Smoke Taste, F If you love barbeque, motorcycles and having fun, I know of an awesome place you must try. It’s called Hog Daddy’s! There aren’t many barbeque restaurants around quite like Hog Daddy’s. It is not just a restaurant, it’s a destination. A place you can go to eat well, have fun, play some games, hang out with friends, meet new friends and enjoy yourself all in one. It is a must try on the restaurant bucket list. To start, how many BBQ places do you know that make everything from scratch? When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. From there sauces, to rubs and seasonings, to their famous brisket burgers (which are ground fresh everyday with 70 percent brisket and 30 percent ground chuck) and fresh cut fries, to their hand cut fresh steaks and fresh baked bread, all made fresh daily. Sounds amazing right? That’s just to start. There is a lot more on their menu. Owner’s, Smoke and Sherry, have more than sixty years of combined experience in the restaurant industry. Yes, sixty years, so they are no beginners. They love to make people happy with their food and want you to feel right at home when you are at Hog Daddy’s. They have worked day and night for years to make sure this happens. Their extensive knowledge in the restaurant industry really makes a big difference. You will not only get excellent freshly prepared food, you will also get top notch service. Making their customers happy and making sure they have a great time is the number one priority. They do not want any of their customers leaving without a smile on there face and a full stomach. The building where Hog Daddy’s is located might look a bit familiar once you drive up. Yup, you guessed it... an old Hardees building, even equipped with a drive thru. Right when smoke and Sheri saw that drive thru on their first trip to see the building, a light bulb went off in their heads. They immediately envisioned a beer garden outside with a big patio where you can walk up to the drive thru, order food and drinks and hang out on the patio while your food is being prepared. If you need anything you can walk right back up to the window and order it. They knew they had to make that happen, and they did. They call it the PIG PEN.

It’s the perfect hang spot before and after your mouthwatering Page 20

For a Small Joint meal. They have awesome outside games; such as a giant Jenga, bean bag toss, yard dice for Yahtzee, nails and lots more as they are always adding. What better way to enjoy your afternoon or evening. Have you ever wanted to try one of those weird and wacky food eating challenges? Well, here’s your chance. Hog Daddy’s has got the Mack Daddy of supreme challenges but, only if you think you up for it. This one is definitely for the books. You need to do your stomach stretching exercises for this one and it’s no joke. It’s not called a challenge for nothing. This bad boy is so big, you have to call and order it ahead of time to get it prepared. It takes a lot of work to get all the food cooked right and ready to eat. With all the food combined your looking at six pounds food or more. Yup, you read that right....six POUNDS of food. Let’s break this down. It’s one and half pounds of pulled pork, one pound of ham, half pound of bacon, quarter pound of cheese, half pound of coleslaw piled high triple decker style using an ENTIRE loaf of fresh baked bread. Oh yeah, I almost forgot the pound of fries on the side. They call this The Hog Daddy Challenge. It is, INSANE!! You have one hour to finish the entire meal and if you do, it’s on the house. This is easily $75’s worth of food or more. You will also get your picture on the wall and cool prizes if you finish it. The crazy part is if you don’t finish, it’s only $35. To date, Smoke and Sheri have yet to throw that customers bill in the trash. No one has been able to finish the Hog Daddy Challenge. I’m going to have to give that one a try. Would sure be fun. Hog Daddy’s is located at 205 3rd Ave N (Hwy 67) | White Hall, Illinois 62092. There are lots of nice scenic routes to get there no matter which direction you are coming from. So, hop on the bikes or in your cars and head on over there. You will not be disappointed. The food is top notch, the service is top notch, and the owners truly care about your experience. I’m sure once you make your first visit it won’t be your last. If you want to see their full menu and daily special go to their Facebook page, Hog Daddy’s and give them a quick like! Always remember.....Big Smoke Taste, For A Small Joint! T-shirts available in safety orange. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

Zac Brown, Inside Southern Ground

whoever “they” are, they say it takes a tribe, and in Peachtree City, Georgia there is a

tribe of craftsman and artisans working every day to bring to life the incredibly unique ideas of multiplatinum GRAMMY Award-winning artist Zac Brown. That tribe is known as Southern Ground and they’re responsible for bringing to life not just Zac’s vision, but truly the vision of anyone that walks through the door. At the helm is ZB Customs, true to its name, a custom design shop that can build just about anything you ask of them. From a human catapult, to a 1,200-pound table fit for a king, their only limitation is one’s imagination. One thing ZB Customs specializes in, motorcycles. Incredible bikes come through the doors of the shop and when they leave they’re works of art. A team of in-house craftsman’s and artists, work in different areas of specialties to customize each bike by hand, dedicating hours to the detail. What’s there when the project finishes are beautiful portraits of history, our military, old Hollywood icons, you name it, all emblemized-on motorcycles, trucks and hot rods. In 2017 ZB Customs partnered with Hellbender Harley Davidson on the opening of their new shop at The Battery at Suntrust Park home to the Atlanta Braves. The team from Harley came to meet with ZB Customs to customize a Heritage Softail Classic. Wanting to honor the past, iconic Braves players are featured throughout the bike, all hand airbrushed. The seat was custom made using Terry Pendleton’s last Golden Glove and the team at ZB Customs worked to over hall the entire bike for the perfect Opening Day look. On opening day, the bike made its debut in the window of the new Harley Davidson shop for the hundreds of thousands who flooded The Battery to support the hometown team. So often, projects that come out of the ZB Customs shop are enhanced by other companies within the Southern Ground family. Southern Hide, Southern Grounds’ in-house leather goods company,

Page 26

www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

steps in on multiple occasions to add luxury leather embellishments to motorcycles, cars and trucks rolling out of the customs shop. Ramon Valdivia, production manager for Southern Hide, taps into his family’s history of leather working to create custom, handmade leather pieces for not just ZB Customs but also Southern Grind and Shelly Brown jewelry. Working with all types of leather, like Mississippi Hornback Alligator, Valdivia is responsible for a lot of the “wow factor” that comes out of Southern Ground. It’s his work that helps add the final touches to projects all over the company. From the leather sheaths that hold the Wasp, a group of four throwing axes available from Southern Grind, to jewelry and handbags designed by Shelly Brown, Southern Hide’s versatility is what lends to the craftsmanship and artisan design work that Southern Ground has become known for. True craftsmanship can be found everywhere you look in Southern Grind, the in-house metalwork’s shop responsible for producing one of Brown’s favorite items, tactical knives. Designed and made 100 percent out of the Southern Ground warehouse, all the way down to the screws, Southern Grind is gaining notoriety for its highquality folders and fixed blades. Utilizing vintage saw mill blades to create the fixed blades, Southern Grind always finds a way to be on the forefront of creativity. Responsible for a lot of the design elements is Brown himself. When he thinks about a knife he thinks about all the uses for it and what he wants to see. In the Rhino, he incorporated an OLIGHT 400 lumens flashlight into the handle for use at night. Creativity shines in many forms at Southern Ground, one of those being the beautiful jewelry by Shelly Brown. Designed by Brown herself, the pieces are handmade in Rhode Island, which has a rich history of jewelry making. Using Swarovski crystals, mixed metals and working with Southern Hide to create stunning leather goods, Brown is giving Southern Ground a feminine touch. Inspired by a love of travel, her pieces are reflections of trips around the world, and the memories she creates with her family and friends. Often, pieces within her collections are named after loved ones.

There is truly a spirit within Southern Ground that fills the 150,000-square foot space with immense amounts of passion, and there is one thing that drives that passion to create every day. Camp Southern Ground is the non-profit passion project of Zac and Shelly Brown that they began back in 2011. Located on 400 acres in Fayetteville, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, it’s mission is to provide extraordinary experiences for children to recognize and magnify the unique gifts within themselves and others to profoundly impact the world. This June marks a milestone for Camp Southern Ground as they opened their doors for the first time ever for the official summer camp season. Nine weeks out of the summer, the campus serves children ages 7-17, from all socioeconomic backgrounds, races and religions, with activities to challenge, educate and inspire campers. As an inclusive camp, Camp Southern Ground will bring together typically developing children, children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), learning and attention issues, social or emotional challenges, and those with family members serving in the military. When camp is not in session, the state-of-the-art facilities of Camp Southern Ground will be used internally as a think tank for high-level thought leaders in the fields we serve. It will also be used for special interest retreats, team building corporate events, educational conferences and special events. Brown also has a strong tie to the veteran and active military community and as Camp Southern Ground continues to grow, so will military-specific programming on the campus. At Camp Southern Ground we are striving to create positive change in the lives of all those who walk our campus. Every day we are continuing to grow, not just by the acres we cover, but by the children, families and veterans we serve.

A Shade of Grey

How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach

White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Hope everyone is enjoying the summer and adding miles to your speedometer. What a great last month filled with lots of rides and events at the shop. This month is going to have more of that and to start it off will be our “Bike Night” on Thursday, July 5th. The theme this month will be for all the men and women that protect our country. We want to thank each and everyone of our Military customers with a bike night in your honor. For entertainment you wont want to miss the Urias Family Globe of Death. You will see three motorcycles going around a 16ft steel sphere while another member stands in the middle as they race past. It will make you feel like you are inside as you watch and your mind starts going in circles. This month I want to feature one of the builds we did back in our service department, a beefy Road King Special. The Road King Specials have been a big hit on the streets since they got released mid year in 2017. The bike comes from the factory with a blacked out look so you already have a direction to go with your customizations. We all know, no one wants to keep there bike stock and pull up and see the same bike next to them. This Charcoal Denim Road King Special from a distance might look stock but as you get closer it all comes to life. From the fat front end to the clean lines from front to back. It is set up for looks, style and comfort all in one great package. Now to point out some of the many modifications done to this motorcycle. Let’s get started on the wide front wheel on this bike. We installed a 18” x 5.5” front wheel that matches the rear perfect to give you a clean look. With the extra meat on that front tire you are sure to have more surface contact going around those corners or going over that overpass on your next cross country ride. We went with the classic wrapped fender that still keeps the roots of the Road King alive. Moving back you will see the Custom Dynamic LED headlight as well as front and rear Custom Dynamic LED turn signals. These LED’s will let you see and be seen which also come with a Life Time Warranty. For some style and comfort we installed the LA Chopper Twin Peak handlebars. This gives the rider the perfect natural hand and height position. Since this bike will be hitting the roads from coast to coast we installed a chopped tour pak to give you just a little more packing room for your long trips ahead. This Chopped tour pak still keeps the lines low but gives you and your passenger more space and comfort. Now for the parts that you visually can’t see but if you are the one in the drivers seat you will definitely know by the power and handling. When we talk about performance its not always the

Page 32

Motor work but also the suspension, on this bike it is both. The Suspension on this bike is in my eyes the best on the market. We installed the Legend Suspensions Axeo front and the Revo-A rear suspension. This suspension will make you stick to the ground on every turn and also going over any bump along the way. To give the bike that extra juice to pull up to that next mountain top or pass that car without down shifting we installed the Screamin’ Eagle stage 2 kit. This kit includes a power cam, Street Cannon Slip-ons and the Pro Street Tuner. This gives you that extra power you need on long road trips in the mountains but also still keeps your factory Harley-Davidson Warranty. The list goes on and on with all the work done to this bike to make sure it is the best ride on the next cross country trip and also looks great at its next bike show or bike night. Looking forward to seeing you all at the dealership and enjoying the many events we have planned for you. Just a reminder if you are able to make it to one of our bike nights and driving a vehicle, we will have free shuttles from the EPC parking lot and also from Shamrock’s where the after party is hosted. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and please come into St. Charles Harley-Davidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email, zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set up a consultation! I’m here to make all your Harley-Davidson dreams come true!

Bikers Helping Bikers

It’s all in the name! Our organization has been around for 30 years since Tom Hartbauer thought that the time was right for someone to “Help Our Own”. Through the years we have grown from H.O.G. Chapters supporting and helping fund us, to our Incorporation in 1997 and becoming a 501 (C) (3) Not-For-Profit recognized by the Federal Gov’t. in 2003. We are proud that our Officers, Board and all our Representatives are bikers and UNPAID VOLUNTEERS who do this out of the love of motorcycles, those who ride and the lifestyle, no matter what you ride, what you wear or who you are. If you encounter a True Hardship and are a Biker living within 100 miles of the Gateway Arch, we want to assist you financially with a “Hand Up…Not a Hand Out” when you need it most. Our application process is pretty straightforward, but some requirements are in place. We offer only financial assistance. To date we have disbursed over $300,000.00 to more than 600 bikers, and is some instances their family members. Hardships are not only due to motorcycle related injuries, but illnesses and loss due to floods, fires and other accidents. Our organization is officially named “The Hartbauer/ McBride Memorial Foundation, Incorporated”. But through our “Biker Fund” we are: Bikers Helping Bikers You can view our history and almost anything you want to know about us on our Website shown below as well as our Facebook page.

Midnight Mist

here are a few old sayings that come to mind right now; “The youth is wasted on the young” and “I wish I knew then what I know now”. I’m sure Kevin Shine is happy that neither applies to him because he knew what he wanted, he bought it and kept it. He has had this gorgeous ’67 Mustang GT Fastback ever since he was 16 years old back in 1974. He was able to pick it up for $700.00, which may sound like a lot but he had plans on keeping it forever and restoring it by the time he turned sixty years old. He also wanted to be sure it was ready for his High School Reunion in 2026. How nice would it be to be a teenager and own one of the most popular cars on the streets with a 390 FE Big Block in it and be single at the time. I’m sure he had all of the friends he wanted. He had all the girls wanting to ride with him and all of the guys wanted to race him. And then there were those guys that had no car at all also wanting to ride with him……just for the ride of course. Although some people may have picked on the wrong car, you are not seeing the hood that used to have a BIG hole in it for a Blower. As I always say “Pick Your Battles”. The photos you see here are from the recent, very recent restoration that Kevin had Showcar Specialist perform. It only has one trip out viewing, it’s new Classic Instruments gauges with only about twenty miles so far. Getting this Mustang to look and run as good as it does was not an easy task. Although one of the next things we need to do is get the car on the dyno and do a full tune on the new Edelbrock - Areomotive fuel injection system. It has already ran out of fuel 3 times, but you want to hear those Pony’s run through the new Hooker Header-MagnaFlow exhaust system. With Kevin’s career and home life keeping him busy, playing with his beloved mustang ended up taking a back seat for quite a long while. for. But Kevin NEVER lost interest in this car but he never had time to work on it so it sat idly in the corner of his garage. Like many people, you just can’t trust everyone, sure he has a great team of guys working for him but they are focused on the other projects they were building. Every once in a while the stars line up just right and you get two guys with the same ideas. That’s what happened with Kevin and myself. When I heard about his dilemma, we had a meeting to review some ideas. He explained to me one of his biggest hurdle was time. I explained my feelings that in reality it would be cheaper to have me do a “Ground Up” at my labor rate than the labor rate they charge. After weeks (months) of thinking about his baby being worked on by anyone but

Page 44

www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

himself, he told me, if I was going to do the job, I’d better come and get it or it may never get done. Soon after that, Kevin met me at the car and as we were loading it on the trailer, his youngest Grand Daughter came out of nowhere like an attack dog thinking I was stealing her GrandPa’s car. I guarantee if Kevin wasn’t in the front of the trailer I may not have left alive. We brought the Mustang back to my shop where I took every part and fastener off of the car and put the shell on a rotisserie. We sand blasted inside, outside and the underneath for a fresh start. We had to repair a few small rust holes but other wise a real solid body, we added new Torque boxes and sub frame connectors for the new added power. Once we had caressed all of the sheet metal, primed and block sanded a few times we sprayed it with PPG Mid Night Mist Poly and DCU 2042 Clear. A little more block sanding and buffing on the clear for that deep “Is it still Wet” look. Then it was time for re-assembly. While we had the car apart we had Gateway Powder Coat do their magic on the Chris Alston’s Chassis Works suspension components. A new car deserves better than new attention, we started with DynaMat everywhere and a new wiring harness from American Autowire. You know it has to have A/C if you plan on cruising around town even if it is just the evenings so we installed a Vintage Air heat and cool system with the OEM look controls and dash vents. As we were putting the Very Capable 390 Cubic Inch FE engine that Doug from AMT Performance built, he added on the March Performance Serpentine Track Pulley Front Runner System. The power got sent to the 9” rear end with 390 gears through a fully massaged C-6 transmission and to get this baby stopped, the BAER Disc Brakes on all 4 corners took care of that. To add to the appearance you must have the Right wheel and tire combo, for that we have Centerline Racing wheels and Toyo Proxes T1R tires. For the creature comfort area we repainted all of the factory sheetmetal and moldings with PPG Arctic Blue Poly. The factory interior is still in great condition so we were able to save and re-use all of that. For the COOL Factor we had to have smoked glass all around that looks great next to the dark blue body and also helps keep the interior cool. Kevin was fortunate to have a loving and supportive wife that stood by him through all of his projects, and this was no exception. For that, he is lucky enough to have Julie at his side. Literally, their desks are next to each other as they get to work together and play together. Kevin and I have plans on another sweet build and I think Julie misses me. Kevin has so many great memories with this Mustang, from cruising the streets as a young teen to starting his family creating many more memories. Now that we’ve just about got her wrapped up. He can’t wait to see what’s in store next. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
