Warm Weather Protection
We all know that the heat around here can be brutal. Wearing riding gear when it’s hot can be unbearable, that is, if you have the wrong gear. No matter how hot it is wearing gear is important. There are plenty of options available to you for warm weather. One often forgot about piece of protection equipment is gloves. Harley-Davidson offers quite a few options for your summer riding glove needs. One option available to you is the Burning Skull Touchscreen-Compatible Leather Gloves. There gloves feature perforated leather and mesh to allow airflow to get through in order to keep your hands cool. The gloves offer a padded palm and are touchscreen compatible of course. Another great option for gloves is the Newhall Mixed Media Glove. The mesh and perforated leather allow the air to flow into the glove, keeping you nice and cool. The glove features comfort seams, an ergonomic thumb and 30 degree precurved fingers. The padded palm and thumb areas on the glove are sure to provide a comfortable feeling while you’re riding. If you’re looking for the perfect riding jacket for warmer weather, we have a suggestion for you. The Trenton Mesh Riding Jacket is lightweight, and features small-hole mesh throughout the jacket. The Jacket offers pre-curved sleeves, and adjustable waist tabs to help you really dial in the fit of this jacket. If you wish to install body armor into the jacket, pockets are the elbows and shoulders allow you to do so. The jacket also has a padded back waist, shoulders and elbows. The Two-way zipper on the front and zipper cuffs offer a quick way to allow in more airflow. You also won’t have the concern of being seen with this jacket on as it features 3M Scotchlite Reflective Material Stripes. CONTINUE ON PAGE 5 www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com Page 3

Well, here we are, month seven of 2019. Crazy, don’t blink, you just might miss something. We have a lot of things happening this month and as well as the next. I will try and touch base on some of them. Mid America Harley will be having July events throughout the entire month of July. July 20th they will be hosing the Million Dollar Bike Show. This is an awesome event and great day to take a ride to Mid America Harley in Columbia. The entire day is full of fun and the Bike Show is a one of kind for the area. I highly recommend that you make the Million Dollar Bike Show on July 20th a must attend event. We will see you all there. Doc’s Harley will have their August Bike Night on August 2nd at their dealership and if you can’t have fun at Doc’s then you don’t know how to have fun. Hope everyone will again support this fun Bike Night and be there on Friday evening August 2nd and share in the good times. On August 9-10th Aaron Sachs & Associates will be hosting the Birthplace of Route 66 Festival again this year in Springfield, Missouri. If you have never attended this event, you need to make reservations now or at least ride down for one of the days. If you have attended, you’ll definitely want to go back again this year. There is a huge list of things going on at the event. Charity Bike Shop, Combat Veterans Poker Run along the Scenic Route 66, Live music, tons of Vendors and a Country Music Jam to name some of the things happening. I always like to remind everyone to make their room reservations for Bikefest. Many of the hotels are selling out already and you need to get your reservations while good rates and rooms are still available. The dates for this year’s Bikefest are September 11th- 15th. Any vendors looking for Vendor space at the Vendor Village should contact Jenna Edison, Lake Ozark Harley at 573-302-7600. Also our friends at Head Indian Motorcycle of Columbia will be setup again this year on Bagnell Dam Blvd with the Indian Motorcycle Demo Truck having Indian Motorcycle Demo Rides. They will also have a huge selection of Motorcycle, new and used for sale starting Thursday the 12th through Saturday the 14th . Make sure you stop by and ride a new Indian and find out what all talk is about. We would like to ask everyone to keep our friends at Hawg Pit BBQ and West Alton Bar & Grill in their thoughts and prayers as they deal with the flooding issues. We hope to see them both open again very soon so we can all stop in and visit. As always, ride safe my friends and I will see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob
If you’re a fan of versatility, then you are going to love the Sully 3 in 1 Convertible Mesh Jacket. With the Mesh construction and lining you will get great airflow. You can also use this jacket in colder temperatures as it comes with a removable windproof polyester fleece full-sleeve hoodie, which can also be worn separately from the jacket itself. The jacket also features snap handwarmer pcokets for when you’re off of the bike. In warmer weather you are able to ride with the hoodie taken out, but the coolest feature about this jacket is the ability to strip the sleeves off of the jacket portion to convert it into a vest. This truly is one of the most versatile pieces of motorclothes available today. Base layers are also very important when it comes to staying warm or cold. With the FXRG baselayer tee the high-performance fabric offers effective moisture management to cool when you sweat and warm when you’re cold. The Tee is designed to wick away moisture through Sweat Traps under the arms. Skin Nodor technology helps prevent odor by inhibiting bacteria growth. Come on in today to check out our vast collection of motorclothes for your every need.

CRACK UP’S An old lady comes to her doctor and says, “Doctor, you know how you told me I should avoid going up and down stairs as much as possible?” “Yes,” nods the doctor, “we agreed on that after the latest X-rays.” “Well I don’t know if it was such a great recommendation. All the climbing up and down the rain gutter is really exhausting!” ____________________
they chat a bit, when Anita asks, “And are you still engaged to Rowley?” “No, not for a long time,” smiles Tanya. “Oh thank goodness for that, what a jerk that guy was! I never got the courage to tell you, but I’m pretty certain he was cheating on you with Greta and Louise!”
“Um…” Tanya continues, “yeah… we got married three years ago.“ “Have you been sleeping by an open window, like I told _____________________ you?” asks a doctor his patient. A ship has been badly damaged in a storm and things “Yes, just like you said, doc.” don’t look good. “And is the bronchitis gone now?” “Not yet, so far the only things gone are my laptop and cellphone.” ____________________
The crew assembles on the deck and the captain shouts over the howling wind, “Men, it’s bad. The helm is broken off, we have three huge holes, I really don’t see this beauty making it to the shore. Is there anyone among you who knows how to pray?”
Two elderly ladies, Mabel and Evie, meet at a café for a Paul steps up and says, “I can, and I will, captain!” nice cup of coffee and a cake. “Excellent, you do that,” shouts the captain. “Now the After a while, Mabel peers closely at Evie and says, rest of you put on your life jackets, we were missing “Evie, it looks like you have a suppository in your ear!” one.” _____________________ “What?” “No!! Please! Don’t jump!!” “It looks like you have a suppository in your ear, Evie!” says Mabel a bit louder. (pulls out mobile phone hastily) “Oh,” checks Evie, “you’re right! Drat, well, at least I know where my hearing aid is now.” _____________________ Anita meets her friend Tanya after a long time and

LAGUNA
How’s it going Full Throttle readers? Zach White here to give you the latest
and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Hope your summer is going good and we have a much needed dryer July. Hopefully this months Bike Night doesn’t get rescheduled and mother nature is on our side. This months Bike Night is scheduled for 7/3. We have New entertainment for you and the smoke will be flying. We welcome the Drift STL team that will be coming in sideways for all of you to watch. See you all then! This month I want to showcase this eye catching Breakout. This is a 2017 Laguna Orange Softail Breakout that I got to bring to life with some upgrades. It started with a text from a good friend that had his eye on this bike. With some chatting back and forth and him knowing that he was in good hands we made it happen. I previously put some wheels on it which is what really caught his eye. Then he took it home and knew right away he wanted to make some changes. With that in mind we went to the drawing board and this is what we came up with. Lets go over some of the upgrades that makes this bike pop even more then the awesome paint job that came from the factory! Let me get started with what catches your eye first, the wheels! This bike is rolling on a 23” front and 18” rear. I went with the Performance Machine Del Ray platinum contrast cut wheels. These wheels just scream out fast with the sweeping curves. It’s one of my favorite new wheels that they released last year. We couldn’t just change the wheels and not match the rotors and sprocket, as you can see it just makes it flow perfect. When you put a big wheel like this you need to rake out the front end. With doing that the stock risers and speedo mount get in the way of the tank. So with that in mind we went with a 4” black riser and speedo mount from Harley-Davison. This also helped with the riding position for the long road ahead. Another Harley part that added to the finishing touch was the Dominion Collection black mirrors. These new mirrors that came out for the 2019 model year are stealth but give you the visibility you need.
Then came the noise! It was quieter then his V-Rod and we all know that can’t happen. As the phrase goes “load pipes save lives”! With that in mind he wanted a deep throaty sound and the first

BREAKOUT
thing that popped in my head was a 2 into 1. I wanted it to stay low and show off that beautiful rear wheel so we went with the Bassani Road Rage. To stick with the contrast look we had going we did the black with contrast end cap. It really gave it a mean look and the sound my client was looking for. When you have more gas flowing out you need more air going in. So we went with the Performance Machine Super Gas air cleaner and matching Del Ray face plate to go with the wheels. He wanted to be able to see and be seen better at night. With that in mind I knew just the right ticket. We installed a Rivco replacement LED headlight bulb so he could have a more natural white light. When it comes to being seen Custom Dynamics is the answer. The Probeam turn signals really get the attention. The front turn signals are white while your cruising so when you pop over that hill or around the corner the on coming traffic really see you coming. Then the rear turn signals brighten up the rear with a run/ turn/brake combo. I wanted to get just a little more light to the rear, so we removed the rear fender reflector and installed the LED tail light. This gives you run/brk/turn as well and really makes that rear end shine from side to side. In his garage the bike parks in a tight space and with the factory license plate it made it tough to not rip it off every time he parked. So I went with the Kuryakyn black curved vertical swing arm license plate. This really tucks it in tight and gives the rear end a really clean finish. Also from Kuryakyn we install there new Kinetic black grips. He wanted the most comfortable grip but still look good. These are the ticket for that as the rubber helps with the vibration at top speeds and allows the wind to go under your palms and keep them dry. With the hand controls complete it was time to move to the foot controls. He didn’t feel like it was a natural transition from foot peg to shiftier & rear brake so I knew just the set up that would look great and help with the problem as well. I went with the Arlen Ness Deep Cut shift lever and brake lever. These gave him a little extra foot room and the brake doesn’t have the big pad so the transition for both was night and day. We couldn’t just leave the stock foot pegs on. So we went with the fusion collection from Arlen Ness. These foot controls went perfect with the contrast wheels. All these upgrades made this bike flow perfect. It really gave it a mean, lean and stealth look. Needless to say my client is one happy guy and ready for the many miles ahead on his new Harley-Davidson Breakout. Thanks again for taking the time to read this. If you come to St. Charles Harley-Davidson, be sure to ask for me, Zach White. If you’d like to set up a consultation, you can contact me by phone (636-946-6487) or email (zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com). OLD DOG ST
ho doesn’t love to see an old muscle car or street rod roaring down the road? There’s just something about it that puts a big smile on your face and makes you want to get behind the wheel of one yourself. I know that’s how I feel! What most people don’t know is the time, effort, dedication and money it cost to build one. There aren’t many places around town that can do what the shop I’m about to tell you about can do, and there is no one in town that stocks as many parts and has better customer service. Old Dog Street Rods is a dream come true for all the hot rod, street rod, muscle car and other car enthusiast. Owner Jim Pavelec has been working on cars the majority of his life. Jim was only 14 when he started tinkering with cars and it was love at first sight. Jim continued his hobby into adulthood and continued to learn more and fall in love with the hobby. He got to the point where he was building hot rods for himself and sometimes even helping others with their builds. This was just an after work and weekend hobby for Jim as he was running his own electrical company. He always thought how great it would be to turn his hobby into a business. To have a job in a field that you absolutely love; isn’t that everyone’s dream? With some hard work and dedication, Jim’s dream was about to become reality. Jim and his wife Carolyn started searched around town for a nice little shop. At first, their plans were to just work on certain cars and maybe stock a small selection of parts while still running the electrical business full time. They found a location that was perfect for what they had in mind. It’s a former body shop that had four bays, an office and was about 6,000 square feet. He had his brother-in-law Frank Judge and one other employee run the shop. Jim would come in on weekends and in the evenings. Doing that for almost a year, Jim was ready to transition into working at the shop full time. That very first year, Old Dog Street Rods grew and grew fast. He knew, to meet his Page 36

customer needs, he had to further expand the shop. In 2003 they added a big paint booth, hired a specialist in bodywork, a mechanic and electrician. Now they were set to do almost any upgrades or full builds from the ground up. Over the next few years business kept growing and growing and it was time to expand once again. People were now calling daily from all over the US and even worldwide asking for a wide variety of different parts they did not have and asking to do upgrades they weren’t capable of handling yet. They had to do something about it. They wanted to have room to stock thousands of parts to have on hand and ready to ship whenever the customers needed them. Construction started again and this time they built an additional 8,000 square foot wing and a warehouse. There was now room to stock almost any part you can imagine. Parts like frames, fiberglass bodies, power steering pumps, air cleaners, wheels and tires and lots more. It was now a one stop shop for just about anything you need to build a car from the ground up or have them build you the car of your dreams. When you walk into Old Dog Street Rods you will always be greeted by their friendly and professional staff. They are all car enthusiast that have extensive knowledge of all the parts and supplies they carry. You are encouraged to ask any questions you may have. If you are at home working on your project and you need to know which part to buy next, give them a call. There are several employees that are dedicated to help the customers over the phone. All the employees at Old Dog Street Rods are very experienced and meticulous at what they do which translates in their work. The custom builds and upgrades they do are truly a sight to see and they take pride in everything they do. I suggest if you are local, you swing by their shop and see some of the work they have done and chat with them a little while. The customers are like family to them. They will make you feel right at home. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

THE GOAT Let me start off by saying #LGB!!! We finally did it, we went from last place to STANLEY CUP WINNERS. Way to go Blues and all of the fans. Well can you believe it, we already halfway through another year and the weather is still Spring like, warm days and cool nights. And all the FLOODING! UGH! Although a lot of our favorite places to ride or cruise are under water, we can still get out and have a great time without melting. This is also the perfect weather for car shows and that is one of the things Jim Van Nest really loves doing in his newly acquired 1970 Pontiac GTO HO. Not only is this one of the best Restored 455 HO GTO you may ever see, it’s also one of the best GTO’s you’ll ever want to drive. Even though Jim works very hard to keep this beauty clean from top to bottom, I still enjoy giving him a hard time about his cars. I distinctly remember his FOOSE Mustang he owned prior to this one GTO. One day in the dead middle of winter as I was busy loading a 998 point Camaro into a trailer; I turned and noticed that Jim was DRIVING off in his 999 point FOOSE in the snow…IN THE SNOW! REALLY! He took off quickly in hopes that he didn’t get those snarly looks and judgmental glares. But, I digress. All kidding aside, Jim works really hard keeping his cars as close to perfect as he can and this one is no different. Page 40

This stunning pure Muscle Car has only 83,311 miles on the odometer and is still running on the OEM 14” PMD Rally wheels with 225/70X14” BF Goodrich T/A raised white lettered tires all around. The body is a pristine Granda Gold with all of the factory character shapes and curves including the massive rear wing and the hood mounted tach. This GTO HO 455 is a highly optioned model, with the Turbo 400 transmission and has 3.07:1 Posi rear end. For the interior creature comforts, he sits in Sandalwood bucket seats with a wood grain center console and all of the Factory gauges. One thing that Jim really enjoys, is being able to look over his RAM AIR hood and know his baby is spotless no matter where you look. It even has the PHS (Pontiac Historic Service) Documentation those of us that are not aware of the Original or fully restored type cars. Jim’s 1970 Pontiac GTO 455 HO is like going back in time, be sure to check this one out since it is a local car.
