H-D: Exciting Changes Who said…”the only thing constant is change”? The past several months that is all we have handled….Change! Here are some changes that you might not know about. The pandemic has affected the riders, the dealerships and the manufacturer. Usually, people do not have an emotional attachment to businesses but our customers have a bond with the brand of Harley-Davidson. Most of the Harley riders eat and breathe H-D. Also, the customers care about the dealerships. We are a hangout. It’s a place where you can ride to and feel comfortable. Many of the customers care about the brand and where it is going. Harley-Davidson Motor Company closed the plants and Juneau Avenue. It has been already two months that H-D has manufactured a new bike. The Motor Company recently started production on new motorcycles. Thank God! All of the dealers across the United State and globally were expecting bikes for the riding season but that did not happen. There is so much excitement when a truck shows up delivering new bikes. We have missed that because it has been two months since we have had that delivery. This week we received some new bikes and the entire staff here went crazy! H-D has made the decision to introduce the new 2021 lineup of new motorcycles in January or February of 2021. The new bikes are typically shown at the Dealer Show in August. The dealers, staff and customers will see the new collection next year all together. Of course, part of that introduction will be the Adventure Touring off road bike called the Pandemic and the Streetfighter. The new products invite more riders into experiencing the brand. This will not take way from the core families but add more dimension. Some people are excited about the new bikes while others think it is the wrong direction. Here is why I love this business; our riders are passionate people. Whether you like it or not, you feel strongly about it and care about the brand. Some dealers invested in the electric bike, the LIVEWIRE. I might someday but not today. The Motor Company will be sending 2020 motorcycles to the dealers for the rest of the year with limited production. They have already pulled some colors off of production and some bikes. The Breakout, the Softail Deluxe, the FXDR and the FXDRS will not be part of the 2021 lineup. If that is your dream bike, go buy it! Also, the only CVO’s to purchase will be at the dealerships now. There will not be any more deliveries of CVO’s this year. Exclusivity is part of the decision but the pandemic has brought upon all of us, including a big business like H-D, to make huge adjustments. The test of time is that the brand has gone through the Spanish flu pandemic, all the wars, the Great Depression, many recessions, and survived. I believe, the Bar and Shield will come through stronger with better bikes and a better direction. We have two new leaders at the helm at the Motor Company. I believe they are going to change it up and I am excited for this. I have known one of them since 2008, Larry Hund. Larry has been the President of Harley-Davidson Financial Services. His new position will be Chief Commercial Officer which is the second in command. He is the type of person who knows how to get the right people in his management team and will execute a more cohesive company. The new President and CEO is Jochen Zeitz. He has been part of the HarleyDavidson board and stepped in as acting President in March. Jochen wanted this role, during this pandemic crisis because of his background and success. His background was as CEO of PUMA and bringing that company Contines on page 5

As time continues to march on and we are now coming into July I am hoping to see this country begin to reclaim some normalcy again. Between the Covid19 Pandemic and now all the looting, rioting and turmoil we are having as a country 2020 has been an insane year. Historic Route 66 Bike Night at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park is finally ready to get going in July however we are not certain yet if it will be on July 01st or July 8th. Keep an eye on our Facebook and we will be making that announcement as soon as we can get Valley Parks approval. I’m sure everyone is like me and ready to have a great place to hang every Weds evening. There have been many bike events canceled this year and as I am writing this the Sturgis Committee has finally said yes, 80th Annual Sturgis will go on as planned. I’m sure everyone is very excited to hear that and it’s only a month away! However, as I said many other events have been cancelled for this year so you might not want to miss the 80th Annual Sturgis Rally. I believe this years Lake of the Ozark Bikefest will undoubtably be the biggest and most attended Bikefest ever. With it being one of the few Bike Events not cancelled I am certain the attendance this year will be HUGE! I know we have been working with the Lakes businesses to get the Passport Ride set up and we are hearing that room reservations are beginning to pour in. I certainly suggest if you plan to attend this year’s Bikefest and experience the Largest Bike Rally in Missouri you better make your room reservation sooner rather than later before all the rooms are sold out. The lake area has so much to offer in beautiful places to ride, great hotels and 100s of bars and restaurants to enjoy. Bikefest date are Wednesday September 16th through Sunday September 20th. I hope everyone that has suffered a hardship during the pandemic is starting to recover and I hope everyone, who like us are business owners have begun to recover from the closing of your businesses. My prayers and thoughts are out to you all. As always, my friends ride safe and we will see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob
around dramatically. This experience should bring about a great redefining of the brand and Harley-Davidson’s future growth of riders. H-D has a new mission statement too: “Harley-Davidson - More than building machines, we stand for the timeless pursuit of adventure. Freedom for the soul.” The Rewire is underway, and as part of that work, we have also introduced a new Vision: “Harley-Davidson - Building our legend and leading our industry through innovation, evolution and emotion.” This too is a statement that is guiding us today and toward our future. The words are purposeful and direct. What I hope you see in these guiding statements is a consumer-led company that’s driven to lead and deliver a Harley-Davidson experience that our customers expect and deserve. I hope you see something familiar and new; a direction that we can align on and move forward together on as one authentic and legendary brand. The great aspect of the Motor Company is they care about you, the customer and the rider. Sometimes, you might not think that but they do. We have two new leaders at the helm. They are going to change it up and I am excited for this. Doc’s has been part of many focus groups with a variety of corporate teams at Harley. The rider is where all the attention goes to as I believe it should. It is not the bike that is the center of attention but the rider. How you ride. Where you ride. What you like. What you don’t like. How long have you ridden. Why you aren’t riding….and on and on. I hope this gives you some new news. Take care and come see us soon. Luv ya lots, Beth Ernst/Owner of Doc’s Harley-Davidson

GOT SAGG
re you constantly being told, you got saggy bags, as your riding around town. Are your friends always telling you, you’ve got to fix your saggy bag’s. This is a real problem, lucky for you Steve, founder and President of Got Saggy Bag’s had this same problem about 15 years ago, when he purchased two Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classics. Steve and his wife Bobbi CEO couldn’t stand looking at their saggy bags, and it seemed like every day they got worse. Steve knew he had to create something to fix this problem. That’s just what he did. After toying around with the concept he had in mind, he really started to think this is going to work. He was cutting plastic sheets and forming them under the lid of the saddlebag. Then using adhesive to stick the plastic sheet he cut under the lid of the bag. Steve had enough material to make about eight of them, and that’s just what he did. He took all of them to a local motorcycle swap meet. He sold every one of them in about 45 minutes. That was amazing. He knew right then that this was his golden ticket. He could just feel it. But when he later told his wife and best friend this, they almost fell out of their chairs laughing. That quickly lit a fire under him. He not only thought he can help every person with this horrific problem he once had, but he can also prove his wife and best friend wrong. Well, they weren’t laughing a year later. Steve had taken his idea and turned it into a full-fledged company called, Got Saggy Bags. They are 100% dedicated to helping every person that has the same problem Steve did 18 years ago, Saggy Bag’s. Steve and his wife Bobbi had to now make a huge decision. Were they going to leave there jobs they had and make this their full-time job? Yes, absolutely! They both quit their jobs at the time and put all their focus on Got Saggy Bag’s. After having a lot more time to concentrate on their business they came up with another brilliant idea. The saddlebag restoration system. They quickly got their system patented and were on the market. So you ask, What exactly is the saddlebag restoration system. It starts with the Perimeter Kit. The entire lower bag system is installed with the bags on the bike. The key to the lower bag system is using the internal seams, pockets, and crevices as pressure points to force the bags into a perfect shape. The Saggy Bags Front and Rear Inserts line the end surfaces, and force the misshapen end surfaces of the bags back into their original shape. Installing the Perimeter Strip over the inserts applies significant outward pressure, locking the front and rear inserts into place, while providing a full Page 12

floor to the bag. Due to design, the Perimeter Strip applies significant outward pressure to the Front and Rear Inserts keeping the bag in a perfect shape. None of the lower bag components require adhesive, screws or rivets. They all lock into place by design. Next is the Support Rail, Adding the Support Rail to the edge of the bag opening completes the lower bag Installation. You will notice the bag opening is larger than prior to installation and totally reinforced. The side of the bag will no longer sag inward toward the fender. By design, the Support Rail self-locks over the edge. No adhesive is required. Next is the Lid Insert. Installing the Lid Insert to reshape the lid surface is the last step. It requires the use of E-6000 Industrial Strength Adhesive that is supplied with your System. The Lid Insert Installation is the only part of the system that requires the bags to be removed from the bike. Using adhesive for the lid insert insures the surface will remain smooth and flat. In all you will notice about 10% increase storage area in the lower bag due to it being held open to its fullest size. Half helmets’ will still fit through the bag opening. The total system weight for both bags is less than three pounds. There are two main purposes for the saddlebag restoration system. In new bags, the inserts will keep the bags from ever shrinking, sagging, or losing their original shape. In older bags, it will restore their original shape by utilizing the patented inserts as shapers and stiffener supports. The benefit is greater storage capacity, greater weight capacity, and to bring it to, or keep it at that showroom look for the rest of the bags life. Steve and Bobbi stand behind their product 100%. They offer a lifetime warranty on their materials. Yes, you read it right, a lifetime warranty. No one else in the industry offers a warranty like that. So, if you’re finally at your breaking point and sick of everyone telling you, you got saggy bag’s. Or if you want to stay ahead of the problem and never have to hear you got saggy bags, you know who to call. The complete restoration system is only $124.00. You can’t beat that. The installation is fast and easy and will have your saddlebags looking like new again in no time. If you have any questions or want to know a little more about Got Saggy Bags, Check them out on their website at www.gotsaggybags.com and order yours today. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

LITTLE BLACK DEUCE

O
wners Ed and Gayle Weichbrodt are no strangers to the car show scene. They both have cars that frequent local car cruises and shows. Oh, by the way, Gayle has a 1972 Monte Carlo that she purchased new with dual 4’s and still loves to romp on it to hear the rumble out the dual exhaust. What’s the ‘ol saying, “A family that shows together, stays together”, or something like that. With over 55 years of marriage, many cars and motor powered toys, I would say that is a pretty true statement. Since graduating high school in 1962, Ed has always like the little Nova’s and just knew one day he would have to have one. As with a lot of our dreams, sometimes they have to be put on hold. No different here, a new job and family take precedence. Though not detoured from the car scene, Ed shared that he was a veteran of the infamous midnight street racing on Hall st back in the day with his ’55 Chevy packing a Z11 prepped 409 with dual 4’s, go Ed!!! He has had his fair share of toys along the way, too. A 1967 Chevelle, another ’72 Monte Carlo and various go carts and garden tractor pullers that their daughter would drive. At this point can you tell he is a died in the wool Chevy guy? Years later in 1997, an opportunity came about that a 1963 Chevrolet Nova SS convertible was for sale. He and Gayle hooked the trailer up to go look at it and possibly purchase. After checking it over, it wasn’t that bad, so a deal was struck for $6,800.00. After getting it home, 4 new tires, a little tuning and some TLC, the little deuce convertible of his dreams was road worthy. Several years had passed and upon doing some research on the car, it was supposed to be a black car and not a maroon. So let the dismantling begin. Once the car was fully de-constructed and void of every nut and bolt, the body and sheet metal pieces were taken to BelAir Restorations, Pocahontas, IL, for a full acid dipped bath. It was discovered, some rusted out areas in the rear and other areas that were going to need attention. So with the help of Bill Rice, they began the tedious task of replacing the quarter panels along with other patch pieces. Once the car was put into epoxy primer, Ed learned the value of a thick wooden ruler and sandpaper, need I say more? After several rounds of primer Page 30
www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
and sanding, the car was ready for Bill to apply the Jet Black paint. Again, Ed and his ruler went to work, sanding. When it was all said and done, Ed’s ruler had no more markings on the ruler. Bill then buffed it out to a beautiful luster that has held up well for 20 years. As Bill and Ed were focusing on the bodywork, Ed enlisted the help of friend Chris Gosch; to go thru and rebuild the little 327 cu. in. 300 hp dealer installed V-8. One may ask, but Chevrolet did not offer a V-8 in a Nova for 1963, and you would be correct. But, hold that ham sandwich! Manufactures were not on board yet with stuffing large motors in small cars and going racing, but many of the dealerships were, so hence the FX (experimental classes) were born. As in this case, the original 194ci engine, which the 3 previous owners has kept with the car and is sitting pretty in Ed’s garage, was removed and replaced with the 327ci motor. Very few Novas’ were done in 1963; the SS option was a one year only options for the convertible, hence the rarity. As the car was going back together, Ed called upon Denny’s upholstery, Bethalto, IL, to bring back the ultra rare Fawn Beige interior to like new. He also installed a new white convertible top. The SS package includes bucket seats, chrome center console and the rare gauge cluster with the 4 separate gauges on the right instead of the normal idiot lights. As always with Denny, you won’t find better restored factory interior seats because there are no puckers in the corners. New carpet in the cab and trunk finish out the car. The exterior is flashy for back in the day, with the advent of anodized aluminum finding its way into the grille and moldings; it’s what sets the SS apart from the rest. And one can’t forget the iconic SS wheel covers with their large faux spinners. To finish out the drive train, the ever so popular 2-speed powerglide backed up to the potent 327ci spins the 3.08’s out back. For the last 20 years, Ed and Gayle have enjoyed their ultra rare SS Nova, showing it all over the Midwest at various Super Chevy events, Nova Nationals and many local shows. It has won many awards to its credit. I have had the honor to have shown cars along side of them for the last 15 years and count it as a blessing to know such a great couple who enjoys this hobby with all of their heart. You won’t find many others who dedicate their life to keep a little piece of deuce history so clean and presentable as they do. God Bless!!! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
