"CUSTOMIZE"
Customizing your bike can mean a number of things; changing
your grips, handlebars, pegs etc. It could also mean custom building an entire bike, and that’s exactly what happened with this piece of art.
Jeff Horvath is one of our many fantastic customers and is the bright mind behind this beautiful build. To give you a little background information on Jeff, his passion for Harley-Davidson started at a young age, 15 to be exact. That’s when Jeff bought a 1947 45” Flathead Servicar. It needed some work. In his words, it was a “basket case” (junk in a box if you are unfamiliar with the phrase) and built a beater trike with a brush and rattle can paint job, swap meet ape hangers, fat tires with no fenders, a shaky stock springer front end, a plywood and denim king and queen seat and a 35” homemade gold spray painted sissy bar…. “It was ugly, but I LOVED THAT THING.” Jeff had been wanting to do a build on the Freewheeler since it was released. April of 2018 was when Jeff made the decision to buy a Freewheeler and build it the way he wished he could have built his 1947. He knew he had to build it with our team at Doc’s Harley-Davidson. Jeff has had a relationship with the staff at Doc’s H-D for years, even getting help putting together that 1947 Servicar. There are many things on this build that stick out. One of those features is the gigantic Cragar Wheels and fat tires that are on the back of the bike. Fitting these to the Freewheeler was definitely going to take some work and modification. Luckily, Jeff is actually an engineer. “I build machines for a living, and I have an engineer’s need to know how my ideas will affect the product’s design and performance so that I can assure safety and reliability of the modified product.” For this information Harley-Davidson Customer Care and Technical Services had to be contacted. Through multiple exchanges Jeff was able to get some of the required information he needed to design the mounting for the wheels while other things he had to reverse engineer to figure out. Jeff was able to get the wheels mounted properly. “There were many modifications made to the trike. All of them were a collaboration between me and the Techs at Doc’s. After any concept part was designed, built, or bought, I took it to Tim and his Team at the Doc’s Service Department. They were awesome to work with throughout the process.” CONTINUE ON PAGE 5

Hard to believe the 13th Annual Lake of the Ozark Bikefest has come and gone. All of us at Full Throttle Magazine and everyone involved with Bikefest from the committee members to the business people at the lake want to thank each and every one of you that came to the event and made it a huge success. The weather was unreal, and we had no rain during any of the event. Well I think one night after midnight there was a sprinkle in a couple of areas. But no rain gear during the day at all; which was awesome. This year’s event brought huge crowds to the lake and has gone in the books as the largest attendance of any Bikefest thus far. Numbers are still being tabulated to try and get a more precise number of attendees. From our prospective everywhere we went there were large numbers of bikers. The Passport Ride was a huge success and a gentleman from Columbia, Mo won the New” Harley FatBob” at the drawing on Sunday that was held at Lake Ozark Harley-Davidson. As all of you know the Lake of the Ozarks offers many great roads to ride and has hundreds of great bars, restaurants and hotels. This is a great place to ride anytime not just during Bikefest. We hope you will take the time throughout the year to enjoy this wonderful part of our great state and we look forward to seeing all of you again next year for Lake of the Ozark Bikefest. We are coming into the fall now and October will be the last month for our Historic Route 66 Bike Night at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park. We will continue to have the event, weather permitting each Wednesday evening through the month October. Our last Bike Bight this year will be on Weds, October 30th. Be sure and help support this Bike Night and stop in and see our awesome vendors, Bill Sankus of The Neon Cycle and of course our favorite lady on a sewing machine, Dona Holt of 2 Stitches sewing and Embroidery. I personally want to thank them both for their dedication to the bikers and our event. They are truly the best at what they do. I hope everyone will join us to help support the Ride for Wishes weekend on Saturday October 12th and Sunday October 13th. There will be a Bike Show, silent auctions, vendors, a ride and lots more. Check the Ride for Wishes Facebook for complete details. This is an event we all need to get behind and help. Hope to see everyone there. As always, ride safe my friend and see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine Bob
Another thing that really sticks out on this bike is the paint job. The paint job was done by JoAnn Bortles who is actually a 5-time Easyriders Magazine painter of the year. “She is the proprietor of Crazy Horse Painting in Waxhaw, North Carolina. The paint is four layers of flames surrounding an image of the Heart of Our Lady of Sorrows under which is the phrase “Ora Pro Nobis” which means “Pray for Us” in Latin. It took her nine months to complete. So, the trike ended up being a stagnant talking piece in the Doc’s shop for a LONG time.” The trike’s paint overall is a reference to part of the story of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Fatima.” As you can see, waiting the 9 months for this paint job to be completed was well worth it. The attention to detail on this build as a whole is quite impressive. The 35”, yes you read that right, 35” Tipi Sissy Bar from Ginz Choppers is impressive enough. Combining that with the beautifully made custom King and Queen Saddle take this bike to a whole new level of custom. There virtually isn’t a component on this bike that hasn’t been thought of. It was truly a pleasure to work with Jeff to make his dream bike come to fruition. If you’re looking to make your dream bike come true, come on up to Doc’s Harley-Davidson. We’re just as excited as you are to make that bike your own.

"H-D CONN
How's it going Full Throttle readers? Zach White here to give
you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. What a summer we have had! From the rain and flooding it took a while to get the wheels turning on some of our favorite roads. That being said, fall is approaching and the leafs will be changing. This time of year is some of the best riding in our area in my opinion. From the leafs changing down wine country and the river road you are sure to find some great views along the way. Check those tires as the weather is changing and get out and enjoy the open road. Bike nights have come to an end and we want to thank everyone that makes them a fun night for all of our motorsports family. This month at the dealership we have a lot planned for you. We welcome 10/5 “Ink Spot Block party”. This event is from 1pm-10pm and the dealership will be open until 5pm that day. On 10/11 we will have a “Blood Drive” inside the dealership from 2pm-6pm. The “Ride for Wishes” ride is 10/12 & 10/13. To end the month we will have our annual “Chili Cook-off” on 10/26. Register with Sandy if you think you have what it takes to take home the win. That day we will also have our St. Charles H.O.G. chapter’s “Wind down Ride”. Check out the website for more information on the events planned for October. This month I want to touch on two new options on the 2020 touring models. H-D Connect and RDRS which stands for Reflex Defensive Rider System. Both of these new options give you peace of mind for your next ride. These new options have so many benefits for the first time rider up to the experienced rider as well. Lets go over some of the many features available with these options. First lets touch on H-D Connect. This new advanced software now is available on all 2020 touring bikes with infotainment. It will be free with the purchase of a new bike for one year. This software allows you to check all your bikes vitals. So you will know your battery life, when your next service is coming up and gives you the ability to add the tire pressure monitoring system. It also lets you know if anyone is messing with your bike. Yeah that’s right and I know a lot of you have been wanting this! You can now track every movement of your bike from the palm of your hands at real time. From enhanced security, bike stats and convenience to riders, you can’t go wrong with H-D Connect!
Page 26
www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
NECT & RDRS" Now for RDRS, which is known as Reflex Defensive Rider Systems. This new option is available for all touring bikes except the Electra Glide Standard and it comes standard on all CVO models. Here are some of the features that RDRS gives you for total control of your two and three wheeled machine. Corning ABS and Electronically Linked Brakes allows both wheels to brake when you only apply either the front or rear lever alone. Next is the Cornering Traction Control. This will prevent your rear wheel from slipping when you accelerate. You have two modes you can choose with this system. The Road mode is ideal for everyday riding with dry pavement. Then you can select Rain mode which is for any wet surface. You also have the ability to turn it off completely when you have to show off to your friends with a burn out. Another slip feature available with RDRS is when deceleration occurs. This feature is for wet road conditions. When you accidentally down shift two or more gears at once and your rear wheel locks up. When the system detects excessive rear wheel slip it will adjust the torque delivery to better help match the rear wheel speed to road speed. One of the features that I really liked especially being a little vertically challenged, is the Vehicle Hold Control. This will help you at the next stop light with an incline. To activate the VHC you will apply extra pressure to either the front or rear brake lever and a light will illuminate to confirm that its activated. It will automatically release once you accelerate or after five minutes. This just gives your brain one less thing to worry about when you already are under some stress from the incline. The last feature that comes with the RDRS is Tire Pressure Monitoring System. This will give you a display on your Boom! Box of your tire pressure and also will have an alert for low pressure. This new technology is just a taste of the future of Harley-Davidson. Come in and chat with myself, Sandy or any of our sales staff so we can show you all the new benefits of the 2020 model year. Thanks again for taking the time to read this. If you come to St. Charles Harley-Davidson, be sure to ask for me, Zach White. If you'd like to set up a consultation, you can contact me by phone (636-946-6487) or email (zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com). Written in part by Kent Z
Full Throttle Magzine
Kent's GTO
Kent Z has always had a love for old classic “Hot Rod” style cars. It all started back in
1965 when he was only twenty years old. After having to drive several old cars that were always breaking down and having to constantly borrow his parents car, he made the decision to go after a brand new car. He fell in love with the 65 GTO. Having a decent job but by all means not becoming rich, he talked his parents into co-signing a loan so he could buy his first NEW car! He was able to go the Lou Fuse Pontiac dealership on Brentwood Blvd and ordered his very own 65 Pontiac GTO. To keep the cost down as low as possible all the bells and whistles had to go; besides all he wanted was to race car. He ordered the 389 ci engine with tri-power and 22 close ratio 4 speed transmission along with the 433 rear end gears. Since he was ordering the car, he thought to ask if he could have it painted a different color than what Pontiac was currently offering on that model and year. He was glad to hear that it was possible. The color of choice was the same color that came in the ’64 and ’65 Corvette; Nassau Blue. It took nine and half weeks for that GTO to arrive from Fremont CA. He thought it would never arrive but when it did, there was a quart can of paint in the trunk for any touch ups needed. He had a one of a kind Nassau blue 65 GTO for a year until GM came out on all the GM line cars with the same color but they just changed the paint color name. Page 34

Fast forward fifty years and after retirement Kent went looking for another 65 GTO. After looking on the web for several days, he just happened to find one on Ebay showing video and photos. After watching the video several times he came to discover the car was right here in St Louis at the St Louis Car Museum. It was exactly what he was looking for. After making several trips up to look at the car, He decided to pull the trigger and buy it. After buying the car he noticed that the title was calling out a six cylinder and not an eight cylinder engine. He seemed a bit perplexed and starting thinking he might have bought a clone GTO and not a real GTO. To make sure it was the real deal he sent off the required fee to PHS Automotive Services, Inc. and got the official information on the car. To his relief, it was a real GTO but now sporting this cool resto mod with all the modern day disk brakes, exhaust, cooling and fuel systems. They had claimed it to be 500+ hp but after having the car ran on the dyno, it was dyno'd out at 342 hp with 443 torque(at the rear wheels) but the shop only ran it up to about 4000 rpm. With the Comp cam, rocker arms and springs, the max rpm is 6200 and not 5000 rpm like stock engines. He estimated the hp to be about 445 hp. He took it over to Gateway race track one Wednesday night at Tune and Test night. Now, Kent never ran any car down an official track, just on the streets. Being very apprehensive and very nervous, it took him three attempts to get off the line with street tires, he ended up turning a 13.51 at 104.5 mph. Having to do some other small repairs to the car since he has owned it along with some small paint repairs and clutch repairs, Kent has been able to get in the car and enjoy the ride again for the six years. His future plans are to enjoy this GTO until he feel it's time to pass it down to his oldest son who chomping at the bit to be the owner. **The paint job along with a few suspension and brake modifications was done by Show Car Specialist prior to Kent Z’s ownership. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
