October is here and it’s officially fall. As the cooler weather starts to roll in, this is certainly not my favorite time of the year and maybe not yours either. I am a warm weather guy and always have been. Hate to admit but as I get older, I dislike the cold more and more. Start to feel those aching joints more and more when you get older when your outside in the cold.

Some of the things coming up in October are: An event we hope everyone will get behind and support is the 15th Annual Page 8: Crusin' Calendar Make-A-Wish Missouri & Kansas Ride For Wishes event! Historic Route 66 Bike and Car Night will continue through the end of October, weather permitting, and we hope all of you continue to come every Weds evening to Bobby’s Place in Valley Park and join in the fun each week. This has been a fun year for Bike Night, and we thank every one of you that have come on a regular basis to hang out with old friends and make new friends. We are excited that we have added the Car Shows to our weekly event. We appreciate all of you car guys for bringing out your awesome rides and sharing them with us. CRACK UP’S A husband and wife who work for the circus go to an adoption agency looking to adopt a child, but the social workers there raise doubts about their suitability. So the couple produce photos of their 50-foot motor home, which is clean and well maintained and equipped with a beautiful nursery.

Tommy replied, “Well, then just give me my money back. That’s fine.” The farmer said, “Sorry, I can’t do that. I went and spent it already.” Tommy then said, “Okay, then, just bring me the dead horse.”

Ta k e I t To Custom painting or even customizing the entire motorcycle did not start with the first motorcycle built.

In fact, the thought of doing so never really entered the equation. When the first Harley was built in 1903; a 440cc single cylinder 4 stroke engines with barely a gas tank, William Harley and Arthur Davidson were just trying to make sure that sucker ran. Back then, it was all about speed. The top speed for that 1903 HarleyDavidson went a whopping 35MPH. With multiple modification, cutting and welding steel to souping up an engine making it go faster was the end game. Which begged the question, when did customizing motorcycles really become the “Thing” to do in the motorcycle world? The word “Custom” came into the picture back in 1950 when a young artisan by the name Arlen Ness and Ben Hardy created a new style of motorcycle “The Chopper”. Then in the 1990’s and 2000’s, you had Orange County Choppers (The Teutul’s) and Jesse James with West Coast Choppers. There were also companies that brought back the art of pin striping, such as Kenny Howard, aka Von Dutch and Dean Jeffries. Now, I don’t think that a normal individual is really going to want to ride a John Deer Motorcycle down the highway on a regular basis… But none the less, customizing a motorcycle can be done in so many ways. Raking the fork, modifying the wheel size and look, stretching the tank, or making crazy shapes with the handlebars. And then of course the paint. When you take the tank and fenders off and send them to a custom painter that specializes in that field, you give them a concept to be blown away with the wicked looking bad ass custom bike that takes your ride to a whole new level. But…..Before you set your sights on a customizing your motorcycle, there are some specific things that you are going to need to understand.

For instance, “cost”. How much are you going to need to get that one-ofa-kind look to your ride? Depending on your specifications and details and how much you want to have done, you could be looking at a price tag in the upward of thousands; or possibly more. The ole’ saying, “you get what you pay for”. That hold true with tattoo art, and it holds true with customizing a motorcycle. When trying to decide what you want for your bike, more specifically, your paint, you not only want something that depicts you but, if you ever decide to sell your ride, will that bike, that you spent all that money on, sell for what you have in it. The simple answer to that is “NO”! BUT that should not stop you from getting all that you want. Now if you decide to get a portrait of your grandmother on the side of your tank, chances are you are not going to get your money back for that paint. That’s way to personal to you. But if you go for some sick looking graphics with ghost flames, possible a few skulls thrown in using kandy’s, pearl or flakes, you might very well reap the reward and make a few bucks. Either way, you do you and make your bike the way you want so you are happy in the end.
