here and I’m fortunate that none of them have moved away. I am a believer that family is everything. I love the time we have with the family but also, I have gotten so accustomed to an empty nest with just Cindy and myself and enjoy that we can pickup and go if and when we want.

Thanksgiving will be on before we know it and then Christmas and of course the new year, 2023. I hope in 2023 we can reunite our country and all the people begin to get along again. This country has been so divided for the last few years and so many people seem to get butt hurt at anything and everything. I think we all need to put on our big boy pants and learn to respect and love our friends and neighbors and stop crying about every little thing.

Here are a couple events coming up. Doc’s Harley is having their Black Friday and Harley Orange shopping days on November 25th & 26th. Ladies of Harley will have their Chili Cook Off at Doc’s on December 3 and pictures with Santa will be available that day also.

The awesome Guns & Hoses event will be on November 23rd to support BackStoppers. Doors open at 4:30 at the Enterprise Center and the event starts at 5:30. This is not only for a great cause but it’s a fun, fun evening, so plan to attend. Make sure you see the ad for details.

We will be starting to plan the Historic Route 66 Bike Nights at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park once the new year hits. We would like to add a couple more vendors to the lot each Weds evening and would like to talk to any vendors that would be interested in being part of our weekly Bike Night. We don’t have the room for a group of vendors, but I believe with The Neon Cycle and 2 other vendors it would add to our Bike Night. So again, if you’re a vendor and want to participate in the best weekly Bike Night in the Lou give me a call and let’s talk. Call me at 314-276-1150 or email me at publisher@fullthrottlemagazine.com

As always, my friends ride safe and see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine.

WINTERIZING

How’s it going Full Throttle readers!! Keigan here again. With the colder temperature coming up more often the end of the riding season is approaching. This time of year, we have a lot of people come into the dealership and ask us how to get their bikes ready to be put up for the winter and non-riding season. Everyone has their own way of doing things but there are a couple of main things you need to take care of when winterizing your motorcycle and that’s what we’re going to cover in this article. So, lets jump right into it.

The first thing to do when winterizing your motorcycle is to treat the fuel and fuel system. For the carbureted bike guys the best thing to do is drain your tank and carburetor. Doing that prevents anything being in the system and gumming it all up. For the fuel injected guys, the easiest way to do that is to simply add a fuel stabilizer. What you’ll want to do is fill the tank all the way to the top with fuel. Doing this makes sure there is minimal amounts of air in the tank so make sure it’s filled to the top. If you don’t do this it creates a pocket of air. When you start your bike next that pocket of air will build up moisture on the outside of the tank. If there is moisture outside, there is moisture inside and you don’t want that. Once the tank is filled, add whatever stabilizer you choose to use. After adding the stabilizer to the fuel you’ll want to run the bike for approximately 5-10 minutes. What this does is makes sure that the treated fuel gets into the entire fuel system.

The second thing we want to address is the fluids. A lot of us are riding the bikes a lot all season long. Adding fresh fluids to the bike lets you drain all the gunk and grim from the engine and get some clean fluids in there. You can do a regular oil change or do a 3-hole change. I go with the 3-hole change. I like doing that so I know my bike is ready to go with all clean fluids when its riding season again. Now, the guys with water cooled bikes have one more step than the others and that’s flushing the cooling system. Make sure you get the old antifreeze out and get fresh antifreeze back in.

Now that all the dirty work is done, we can focus on the outside of the bikes. I always wash and wax my bike before putting it up. Getting the bugs and tar off the bikes. The biggest thing is making sure the bugs are off. Buggs are acidic and if you have them sitting on your clear coat all winter long, they will start to eat into your clear coat and paint. Make sure you hit all the chrome and pretty parts of the bike as well. after cleaning the bike, I always hit mine with some wax. This makes sure your paint and clear coat are sealed and protected.

YOUR MOTORCYCLE

After the bike is all cleaned and ready to almost be put up, its time to focus on probably one of the most important parts of winterizing the bikes, and that’s the battery. The absolute best thing you can do for your motorcycle’s battery is put it on a battery tender. it’s a quick plug in and your battery is protected. Now, I’m not talking about a battery charger, that will only help you out if the battery is dead. Battery tenders are designed to maintain batteries charge and not over charge it. A battery charger will over charge the battery if it stays plugged in.

So, while were on the subject I want to tackle one thing I hear at the dealership all the time and that is, “I just go out and start my bike every week for 5-10 minutes.” This is probably one of the worst things you can do for your bike over the winter. The most strain you put on a motorcycle’s battery is starting it. So going out and doing this when you don’t have a tender on it will drain the batteries charge. Doing this also builds up moisture in the engine and doesn’t allow the engine to get hot enough to burn all the moisture off. This is something we want to avoid because then the moisture just sits in the engine, which isn’t ideal.

The last thing you’ll want to do is cover any holes in the bike and the bike itself. Now, this might sound weird at first but you want to make sure your covers your intake and exhaust. When its cold enough critters will look for a warm place and they make homes in your exhaust and any other area they can find. For the batwing bikes make sure you also cover under the fairing. You definitely don’t want anything to get up in there and make a meal out of your wiring. Once you have that done you can cover the bike. You’ll want a bike cover that is made for your storage needs. If you’re storing the bike outside, you’ll want to make sure you get a cover that can hold up under the winter elements. A good indoor/outdoor cover will get the job done.

That wraps up how to get your ready to be stored for the winter. If you need something I went over the dealership has everything in stock from fluids to covers, just come on in and well get you set up. As always, I really appreciate you guys taking the time to read these articles. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me at the dealership or by email at keigan@stcharlesharleydavidson.com. If you want to check out some of the builds we have going on in the shop, go ahead and stop by, we have a lot going on. Thanks again everyone and as always keep the rubber side down.

If you see a crime at an Apple store, are you an iWitness? Did you know that milk is the fastest liquid on earth? It's pasteurized before you can even see it. It's inappropriate to make a "dad joke" if you're not a dad. It's a faux pa.

The difference between a numerator and a denominator is a short line. Only a fraction of people will understand this.

"LET'S GET READY

Firefighter, Police Officers and Paramedic’s: aka “First Responders” put their lives on the line every time they are called to actions. Those brave men and women choose this profession because they know there is a need. Their selfless act: their heroism holds no bound to what must be done to protect the lives of others.

But what happens if a tragedy strikes? What happens if one of those live is stricken done in the line of duty? The loss resonates through their friends, co-workers; but most important, their families and children who are left behind to try and pick up the pieces. Grief sets in and as time passes, on top of the grief for the lost loved one, the financial pressure sets in. Now, I know that the cities of these departments would pass on a small pension to ease some of the financial burden, but that is not always enough. What happens now?

That’s why a small group of men got together help do something about it. They heard of a small Insurmountable non-profit organization, The Backstoppers, Inc., that was trying to do so much to help the families of the fallen first-responders, they never really wanted the recognition for what they were doing but needed help non the less.

Mr. Blassie heard of an organization in Detroit, Michigan called the Hundred Club. This club would assist with helping ease the financial burden of the families of these fallen men and women.

The newfound information left him wondering why we don’t have anything like that here in St. Louis. With this information, he went to the one person he knew that would know what to do and how to get it done: Mr. Richard Amberg. He immediately began to breathe life into this project; meeting the business, labors and professions encouraging them to attend organizations meetings and planning for a corporation charter. He was elected temporary president pre-corporation and then became president when the charter for Backstoppers was granted on September 11, 1959.

With 200 members and only a year’s dues, they immediately where able to help the families of five fallen first responder’s families. And they continue to grow year after year and have help approximately 180 families.

The St Louis Guns and Hoses Boxing Assocation, Inc. (501c3) was founded in 1987 by Four gentlemen. Jerry Clinton (Anheuser-Busch Distributorship), Myrl Taylor (Local labor Leader), Jack Martarelli (Local Labor Leader) and Bo Holley. Jack, Bo and Myrl ran all the amateur boxing in St Louis. Jerry was also an amateur boxer and years prior he and Myrl ran on the same boxing card. So, Jerry approached the others and said he would like to sponsor the Golden Glove which is the amateur boxing championships.

One evening, Jerry and Myrl got together, and Jerry mentioned that he would like to do something to help The Backstoppers.

READY TO RUMBLE!"

They began to discuss what they could do and thought, why not do a boxing event? The original event was supposed to be between the St Louis Police Department and the New York Police Department. That combination did not work due to the out numbering of NYPD to STLPD. New York had 10 times the number of officers and approximately ten years younger.

So, then they decided to make the event between the St Louis City Police and Fire and the St Louis County Police and Fire. The mayor and the department chiefs all got involved and the first event took place in 1987 called “St Louis Metro Budweiser Boxing Showdown”. I wouldn’t say it was a smashing success because, it ended up losing money. Jerry Clinton put approximately twenty-thousand dollars to break even for the event and then took another twenty-five thousand dollars of his own money to donate to Backstoppers. The committee got together and as much as they wanted to continue, if they lost money again, they will not be able to continue doing this fundraising event.

Year two of the event, they made money and since 1988, they have made money after each annual event. AND…… to date Budweiser Guns and Hoses event is the largest donator to the Backstoppers, Inc. Starting out being able to donate proceeds ranges from 30k-70k to last year they wrote a donation check for one million dollars. And overall, approximately ten million dollars have been donated.

In 1994 it was decided to change their format to have the police department, city and county fight against the fire department, city and county. Soon after that, the name of the event change to what it is today. Budweiser GUNS ‘N HOSES.

Today the Budweiser Guns and Hoses organizations is run by David Stokes (President and Owner of the Budweiser distributorship in St Louis County), Jesse Finney, Executive Vice President and in charge of the MMA division and Steve Holley, Executive Director and oversees the main event.

This event has grown year after year after year hosting approximately 1400 athletes and between male and female showcasing approximately 700 bouts of both boxing and MMA. You will never forget when this the event is going to take place, because it always happens the day before Thanksgiving.

This year will prove to be the best event yet. They are expected to have renowned DeeJay Silver live rockin’ to his electrifying beats, Joe Buck live, preforming the End of Watch Ceremony, Messages from Governor Parsons and Bob Costas and “LETS GET READY TO RUMBLE” Iconic Michael Buffer to start everything off.

Expect to be thrilled with this years amazing line up of athlete. They have been training all year. Between Boxing and MMA the show is going down with 14 bouts. Starting at 5:30-9.

If you can’t make it to the live event, don’t worry about it. You can watch it stream live on FiteTV from 5p-9p and at 7p the event will be aired live on Fox TV.

If you want to be a sponsor or just donate to the cause you can go to www.stlgunsandhoses.com and click the DONATE button at the top. There is also information on how to become a sponsor. It’s never to late to donate.
