Tis The Season I know it’s hard to believe but the holidays are already here! We love the holiday season here at Doc’s Harley-Davidson; and trust me, the Christmas spirit has arrived! It’s very easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the holiday season; trying to get everything you need in time. Sometimes the ones we love are just plain hard to buy for! That’s why we here at Doc’s Harley-Davidson have some fantastic and easy solutions for you that many of your loved ones are guaranteed to love. Winter is NOT a good reason to put your bike away for the season. That’s what we have winter riding gear for! What better gift is there than giving your loved one the warmth and protection they need to keep the ride going? Maybe the Ratchett Gauntlet Gloves are the perfect idea. These toasty gloves are built to defend you against whatever winter has to offer with an insulated back of hand and draft-blocking adjustable cuff. These gent’s riding gloves bring the comfort and are packed full of details to enhance your ride! The gloves feature: • • •

Stay Warm: 3M™ Thinsulate™ Insulation on back of hand for added warmth. Fit & Mobility: Ergonomic thumb and 3º pre-curved fingers. Power-stretch knuckles. Elastic wrist with adjustable closure. Adjustable cuff closure. Ride-Enhancing Features: Reinforced Amara palm. 3M™ Scotchlite™ Reflective Material knuckles. touch screen compatible.

A lot of us forget about base layers as well. We think that all those layers we pack on are going to protect us from the great outdoors, but to be honest starting with the right layer first will make all the difference! One perfect option is the FXRG® Base Layer. This revolutionary product can do so much while feeling like a second skin! The Base Layer tee is made with innovative new fabric that controls temperature, odor and wicks moisture to ensure that you feel your best, regardless of what Mother Nature is throwing at you. This material is so light and thin that it fits under all your chosen riding attire, all while moving with you. When we call it a second skin, we mean it… it moves where you do, and you will forget it is even there- no bunching or excess stretching! This is one heck of an upgrade from the uncomfortable thermal wear that you dread every winter! •

Stay Cool: High-performance fabric offers effective moisture management to cool when

As the end of the year fast approaches I have to say it has been another fun but fast year. The months seem to fly by, but this year, the riding season came to a screeching halt. We certainly missed fall and went from summer right into winter. I’ve never been a real fan of cold weather and less of a fan of snow. I just read that we have areas around the metro that already surpassed last year’s total snowfall and we haven’t hit December yet. I’m certainly hoping that we don’t get much more snow this season. None works for me. I know some people love the snow and that’s awesome but I’m just not one of those guys. I want to invite each and every one of you to join us on December 8th at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park from noon until at least 7pm for our annual Toy Drive. We will be collecting toys for local families that need help in providing their kids and grandkids with something to make their Christmas special. These toys will stay right here in the metro area and given to less fortunate families that desperately need our help. I am asking each of you to reach into your heart and stop by Bobby’s Place and donate a toy to help these kids get a smile on their face for Christmas. We will be doing a raffle giveaway throughout the day for those who have donated a toy. Please, Please, Please take a few minutes from your day on Saturday, December 8th and come have a drink, have some food and drop off a toy. It will make you feel good and make a child feel great. I hope to see all our readers, fans and advertisers there. The STL Motorcycle Show is coming to the America’s Center and the Dome January 24th-27th. This year promises to be a spectacular show that is now combined with the STL Auto Show. You will get both shows this year for the price of one admission. The STL Motorcycle Show will be bigger and display more vendors along with a huge display of the industries newest and latest motorcycles that are available for sale. Tickets are available online at www.stlautoshows.com and will save you $2.00 on each ticket you purchase. It’s going to be a great show so we will see you there. All of us at Full Throttle Magazine want to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas, a Happy Hanukkah or Happy Holidays however you celebrate. Have a safe, healthy and happy holiday and we hope someone you love buys you a new motorcycle. It won’t fit down the chimney but it will roll right into the garage. As always, ride safe my friends and we will see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob

you sweat and warm when you’re cold. Stay Warm: Lightweight construction helps retain body warmth. Iso-Pads spaced across the shoulders hold warmth to protect against chill. Stay Comfortable: Designed to wick moisture away through Sweat Traps under the arms. Skin Nodor technology helps prevent odor by inhibiting bacterial growth. Enhanced Riding Performance: The Air-Condition Channel with Zero-Insulation combined with the AirGuide cools the body and allows excess warmth to escape for the most efficient regulation of body temp and the most comfortable ride. Excellent Fit: Close-fitting without constricting, this layer features Fitting Ribs on the sides and Expansion Ribs at the elbows to adjust when in a riding position without compromising functional and temp-regulating properties.

Maybe you or your loved one already has the gear they need to ride through the season, or maybe the bike gets put away for the winter. There are plenty of things that we have to offer here at Doc’s for you, too! Let’s make sure that bike is ready to go every time you get on it. With Harley-Davidson battery tenders and chargers your battery will be good to go all the time. No more worrying about your bike starting after an extended time down. All H-D Chargers have the following Battery Protection/ Safety Features: • • • • • • •

State of Charge Indicator Spark Proof Short Circuit Protection Reverse Polarity Protection Fully Automatic Charging Fused Ring Terminals Fused Alligator Clips

These chargers are a wonderful gift for any rider, and we always suggest having one on hand! Whatever your holiday needs, whether it’s a nice present for a loved one or you are treating yourself, there is something at Doc’s! Still not sure what to get that certain someone? Our knowledgeable staff is here for you! We are more than happy to learn about the people on your shopping list (even if that person is you) and find the perfect gift idea for them. Did we mention that we will wrap all your Doc’s gifts for free? We will! Come on down to Doc’s HarleyDavidson and get Winter ready! Visit us at 930 S. Kirkwood Rd., Kirkwood, MO 63122 or on the web at www.docsh-d. com. We are open Tuesday through Sunday this winter. Have a question and want to give us a call? Bikers Helping Bikers

It’s all in the name! Our organization has been around for 30 years since Tom Hartbauer thought that the time was right for someone to “Help Our Own”. Through the years we have grown from H.O.G. Chapters supporting and helping fund us, to our Incorporation in 1997 and becoming a 501 (C) (3) NotFor-Profit recognized by the Federal Gov’t. in 2003. We are proud that our Officers, Board and all our Representatives are bikers and UNPAID VOLUNTEERS who do this out of the love of motorcycles, those who ride and the lifestyle, no matter what you ride, what you wear or who you are. If you encounter a True Hardship and are a Biker living within 100 miles of the Gateway Arch, we want to assist you financially with a “Hand Up…Not a Hand Out” when you need it most. Our application process is pretty straightforward, but some requirements are in place. We offer only financial assistance. To date we have disbursed over $300,000.00 to more than 600 bikers, and is some instances their family members. Hardships are not only due to motorcycle related injuries, but illnesses and loss due to floods, fires and other accidents. Our organization is officially named “The Hartbauer/McBride Memorial Foundation, Incorporated”. But through our “Biker Fund” we are: Bikers Helping Bikers You can view our history and almost anything you want to know about us on our Website shown below as well as our Facebook page.

Ride Safe and Thumbs Up.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page and make sure your signed up for our emails, this will give you all the details of upcoming events we have planned for December and the New Year ahead of us. Well the middle of November really let us know that we can actually have a snow here in the Midwest and even before winter is set to be here. Hope everyone was safe but was still able to have a little fun in the snow. Now for some rain to come and wash the Salt off the roads so we can get our motorcycles out when we get that nice December day. Make sure if you do get your bike out before the roads are completely clean of the salt that you make sure your tires are aired up and clean clean clean your bike as soon as it cools off when you get home. The salt will destroy a bike a lot faster then you would think, especially those hard to reach areas. For the riders that will be getting the bike out of the garage on 50 degree days this is for you. Make sure your bike is plugged into a battery tender. So after you have cleaned that bike then plug that tender into your harness. Harley’s take a lot of cold cranking amps to fire over and no one wants that nice day to come and have a dead battery. Also since the days are coming fewer and fewer to ride have some kind of fuel additive in it. We have in stock a few different brands but my favorite are the Fitch Fuel Catalyst. You simply drop them into your tank and have no worries other then making sure your fuel to topped off at the end of the ride when you pull into the garage. No figuring out how much fuel you used and determine how much additive to add back in. Then cover that bike up so no dust and most of all something doesn’t fall on it as it sits and causes some unwanted damage. Make sure the bike cover is breathable so no condensation gets on the bike as the Page 24

A “Real” Winter? temperatures change.

Now for riders that once the salt hits the ground your bike is put away until the spring and weather starts to get back above 50 here are some tips for you. First off change all the fluids in your bike if you are storing it in a climate control area. After your fluids are changed top off your fuel and add your fuel additive or fitch fuel catalyst to your fuel tank. Turn the petcock off if your bike has a carburetor. Clean your bike from front to back and top to bottom. Now plug in your battery tender to your bike and check the tire pressure on your tires, this should be done monthly. If you have a scissor jack put your bike up so it takes the weight off the tires and prevents any flat spots. If you don’t own one then make sure you move your bike a little each time you check your tire pressure. Now put a bike cover over the top and let it sit. Don’t fire it up at all unless you are planning on going on an hour ride and then go back home and repeat all the steps. If you don’t have a climate control area to store your motorcycle this winter then give us a call. We will come and pick up you bike and store it here for $297.00. With your winter storage we will change all your engine, primary and transmission fluids and filter. We will make sure your clutch is adjusted correctly, primary and drive belt are adjusted properly for you as well and do a load test on your battery. We will also check for any engine codes and do a charging system evaluation. Last but not least, we will make sure your tires are correctly inflated, brakes are good to go, fuel additive is added to the tank, bike is plugged into a battery tender and covered up in a climate controlled building protected from what all mother nature has in store for us. Check out our website or Facebook page for details on all the events we have in store for you. Thanks for another great year and looking forward to what 2019 has for us. It’s already starting to get filled with seminars, bike shows, expos and many other events that we can’t wait to share with you. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and please come into St. Charles HarleyDavidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email, zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set up a consultation! I’m here to make all your HarleyDavidson dreams come true! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

The Dos and Don’t

Some of you, who know me, know that I’m a bit of a fashionista and love the bling. So when it comes to fashion vs motorcycle gear, I’m always looking for the cuteness as well as the functionality. Let’s break it down from head to toe.

The Helmet: Nothing beats helmet hair…..NOT! But for those helmet required states, it’s a must. Whatever your preference is, the full faced, three-quarter, half, or the novelty, you want to look cute. You try to find that one specific helmet that has that bling instead of the blah and you can say “DAMN, I look good”. Now, safety is the more important thing here; even over the cuteness. With the full face helmet, you can’t help but look like Robocop. Let’s just pull out our concealed firearm that is tucked away in our exterior leg armor and go after the next bozo that cuts you off; then again maybe not. Then you try on the three-quarter helmet, you look in the mirror and all you see is you’re siting on the back of the Captain America bike in the movie Easy Rider; which would not be so bad as long as you are sitting behind Peter Fonda. Still undecided, you reach for the half helmet. LORD, you look like a mushroom. Is there any possible way to make this look cute? Maybe add a few studs along the chin straps. Well, you take a crack at the novelty helmet. It’s smaller, it’s lighter and it comes in various shapes to fit your head. Most of them come in a gloss blah black. That’s an easy fix; go to your local craft store and buy some flat back crystals and bling it up. Whatever helmet style you choose, make sure you find that balance of the three S’s – Sassy, Sexy, and Safe. The Jacket: When buying a jacket you always want to make sure it fits you properly. It needs to couture to your figure; you don’t want to look like Violet Beauregard after you just chewed blueberry pie gum. Know that you are going to be in a seated position with your arms stretched out in front of you. The back needs to be longer to prevent any of your fanny back showing. The body of the jacket should fit snug around the rib cage but leaving a little breathing room for your nibbly bits. When you try on the jacket, stretch out your arms. If the sleeves stop right behind the heel of your hand, you are good. Alright, now that you’ve found a properly fitted jacket, you got to look for the cute factor. Does it have the bling you’re after? Even if there is no bling, the proper fit will make you look good. The top: During the summer riding season, you general are not going to be wearing a jacket; unless you are really in the protective mode and fear the open road. None the less you should look good in the shirts and tops you buy. Remember, you are going to be traveling pretty fast and it is going to be very windy. When you are looking for a shirt or top, make sure that you are wearing one that is somewhat fitted. Try to avoid wearing shirts that are overly blousy. Riding your motorcycle and looking like a boat sail is just not attractive. But, if you wear a shirt that is too tight, then it

accentuates flaws that otherwise should be concealed. It’s a happy little balance dance that us as women have to play. Whatever style of shirt or top you decide to wear, it should be classy and sassy. The Pants/Jeans: For total cuteness, please, for the love of all that is holy, stay far away from those saggy ass, high-waisted, 1980 Jordache mom jeans. There is nothing more unattractive then stepping off your bike and your pants look like you had an “Oh Sh**” moment from the back and the front looks like you are crowding more than your nickers. Jeans should fit your figure. When you are searching out for that right fitting jeans for riding, take into consideration that you are sitting. Try them on and sit down. You should not have a big gap in the back where it will allow air to flow down your backside; nothing like an “Air Enema”. But if the jeans are too tight in the waist, it will cause the God awful muffin top and panty exposure; not a pretty site. I have a curvy figure and the best fitting jeans are mid-rise to low rise with a higher back with a nice boot cut. They should lay smooth around your hip, legs, butt and waist. To make sure that they maintain their shape, go for jeans that have lycra or spandex. Most jeans these days have that in the fabric. Rule number one: make sure they fit you properly. Rule Number two: go for the bling. There are numerous manufacturers that bling the poo poo out of their jeans. Go for the sassy and sexy. The Boot: When looking for that riding boot, you do need to makes sure that they are comfortable, especially when you are planning on doing a lot of walking; like Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Since you are all decked out, you do want cute feet to complete your ensemble. My Favorite is cowgirl boots. There are so many fashionable styles of western boots. If you like that route, I would suggest to make sure the inner sole has great support and the outer sole is rubber, at least in part. This will allow your shoes to grip the pavement and not be slippery. Heel height is important. If you are not planning on walking much you could possible get away with a higher heel. That is, only if you are a passenger. It’s damn near impossible to shift when you are wearing spiked heels; I know I’ve tried. Keep the heel at a 2 ½ inch height, max; for comfort and functionality. The items that I would never recommend wearing while on the back of a motorcycle are shorts, skirts, and any open toed shoes. Protect your legs and feet from those extremely hot exhaust pipes. I made that mistake once in my life and got a bologna size burn on the back of my calf. Now that you got your clothing in check, it’s time to accessorize; the blingier the better. You can add earrings, necklaces, rings, and belts. Don’t forget your side bags; where else would you store you lipstick, compact, phone, money, and credit cards? Adding fun sparkly jewelry is a way to bring your outfit all together. When you are searching out for that perfect outfit always, always remember. It is better to be Classy not Trashy and Sassy not Sleazy. Find what you love and fits you well and watch all the heads turn. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

“NIGHT MOVES”

Not only did Bob Seger have Night Moves, this 1960 Chevrolet Impala owned by John Van Leuven most certainly does as well.

With a long, wide, low roof line and sleek body created by Chevrolet, the Impala had a great Factory stance and those FINS just made it look like it was ready for take off. Then when you add the rockets that started in the doors and ran all the way to the tail lights, you knew it was locked, loaded and ready to strike; almost Stealth like. The first time I saw this beauty was at a local car cruise when John was pulling into the lot. This is the kind of car that demanded attention. Everyone kind of just spread apart to let him pull in where ever he wanted. The 348 cubic Inch Tri-Power motor with a 4-speed transmission had a sound that reverberated and shook the asphalt all of it’s own. And you couldn’t wait for it to park so you could look at the pristinely detailed engine bay. When you think this bad boy could not get any cooler, John hit the Accuair switches to let the air ride bags drop this baby to the ground like it was coming in for a soft landing. You never get tired of seeing BIG wheels get swallowed up in to the body, and these 20”X10” & the 18”X10” Custom Eagle alloy wheels are no exception. It just looks cool. Naturally when something this nice pulls up, you might Page 36

wonder if the interior is going to match the rest of the car, but sure enough, it did. The Pete Ciadella interior looked as nice as the Factory product. But John decided to take it a few steps further. He did a FULL frame off Rest-Mod on this beast. While it was all in pieces he had a crate built for the interior. This made it much easier ship everything all at once to the Ciadella shop in Arizona. From there, they took over to create this sweet custom full leather interior. The Dakota gauges help finish off the look and the Vintage Air with the late model power steering makes it a pleasure to drive. I’m sure some of you remember the Chevy plant here in St. Louis. Well luck would have it, This is one of the Impala 2 door hard tops built right here in the Lou. Gives you a bit of nostalgia feel don’t it? Back in the day before all the cars were made up of fiberglass and plastic, cars were made up of steel. And what does steel do over time…..RUST. That didn’t bother John one bit. This gave him the perfect opportunity to get his family involved with this project. Which in turn allowed him was to spend more time with his family. With his son Alex and his daughter Audrey right there with him. They spent 18 months and about 1000 hours doing the car. When it came time for the paint to be laid down, they needed a little help to spray the BMW Space Grey base coat/ clear coat. For this they had some very talented friends, Bob Feiler and Bob Fink with the final spraying. This is one of those cars that pictures really can’t express the true Cool Factor, you really need to see it and hear it. Too bad we are going into winter and you have to wait for the thaw. But one thing is for sure, on some of those cold boring days, John will be in the garage with the wax treating those long fins, rockets and steel dash making sure it is in pristine condition for the first car cruise of the season. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
