The Milwaukee Trip
Have you ever had the luxury to go to Milwaukee for a ride? Have you been
there for the National HOG Rally? Ashlea Schuster (marketing manager), Stephen Scrafford (parts manager), a couple of HOG members, and I were able to go on this trip, and let’s just say it was a great experience. The ride up that we took up to the Rally from Doc’s Harley-Davidson was exactly 400 miles. Our group enjoyed leaving bright and early on a cool Thursday morning and getting into Milwaukee later that afternoon. We decided to head straight to sign-in, despite being ready to nap. When we got to the Museum, we went to sign up and were greeted by the Leadership staff of Harley Owners Group (HOG). They said, “Welcome Burrito and the Kirkwood HOG Gang!” They even took the time to get a picture with our group! Boy, were we glad we didn’t just head to the hotel- what a rejuvenating experience! It was awesome to have that kind of welcome, and that is how it was the whole trip. We were the cool kids in town! One of the best moments that we had on that trip was the HarleyDavidson Museum tour that was guided by Mitch Bloom, Group Sales Leader. This hour and a half tour went over everything from the first model ever made, the generations of engines, sporting motorcycle games and the evolution of Harley. One of the best highlights for me was the custom paint evolution. They had a wall with the paint style recreated on a tank for every year since 1936 to modern day. It was a sight to see, and you can even tell when Willie G became a part of the design team how everything changed with the style of the custom Harley. We also got to see the motorcycle that traveled across the pacific due to the Tsunami from Yamamoto Miyagi Prefecture Japan on March 11, 2011 to Graham Island British Columbia, Canada on April 18th, 2012. The HOG group and owner of the bike wanted the bike to stay at the Museum, and it is truly a sight to see. They even sent over some items to be shown with the bike out of gratitude! The tour as a whole was just a great reminder of why we live, breath, and love this lifestyle. If you have not had the ability to get a private tour, make sure that you go as soon as possible for it! We highly recommend it! On the next day, we were able to see the Corporate office of Harley-Davidson; 564 Juneau Ave. It was great to see that the original corporate office that the 4 founders started is still the same building to this day, and has been modified to suit the needs of the motor company in our modern time. One of the coolest things that I learned while there is that the office building was curved at a 45 degree angle due to the railroad track already being there and that the railroads were the original way that Harleys were delivered. Most of the leadership staff of Harley-Davidson had stand-up desks to promote creativity and mental awareness, and they also cut through the floor between 4th and 5th to make stairs and an open-air sitting area for Marketing and Sales to openly communicate and produce more thoughts and ideas for what is next for Harley-Davidson. Tim Budzien, National HOG Manager, said, “The Juneau Ave tours were a ton of fun. It was really unique since I do not think we have ever (at least in the recent past) brought that many people through. The comments from the members were fantastic!” He is excited to do this again next year for the 115th Anniversary of Harley-Davidson. Continues on page 5

Seems hard to believe that the Lake of the Ozark Bikefest is in the books and behind us. The months have flown by this year. The weather couldn’t have been better for this year’s Bikefest. Well, Sunday could have been less rain and the weekend would have been perfect. The event brought in what I believe to be the biggest crowds ever at Bikefest. The strip was rocking the entire weekend and everywhere we went there were bikers having fun. I have to admit we did some boating while we were at the lake but that’s a must whenever we visit the Lake. Every year we discover new and fun back roads and 3 & 5: Doc’s-The Milwaukee Trip rides that make the lake a special place to visit and ride. The 14-15: The All New BMW Bagger Ozark’s offers some the most scenic and beautiful roads to ride that you will ever experience. Bikefest is for sure a great event 17: Bike Fest but you can visit the Lake year round and enjoy the fun and beauty it offers. So remember the next time you’re looking for 18: Crack Up’s a great place to ride, jump on your bike or get in your car and 30-31: Around Town head to the Lake for a relaxing and entertaining place to visit. 34-36: Out With The Old, In With Our congratulations go out to Mike McCarty of from Ankeny, Iowa for being the lucky guy to win the New Harley-Davidson The New Motorcycle from the Passport Run. We want to thank everyone 38: 115th Anniversary & The CVO who came out to the event and also all the business owners at the Lake for making this event a HUGE SUCCESS. The Bikefest 40-41: Historic Route 66 Bike Committee deserves a HUGE round of applause for organizing Night Pics and taking this event to the level it has reached. I am already looking forward to the 2018 Lake of the Ozark Bikefest and hope even more of you will join us next year.

One day, we even went to, “The Fonz Bronze Statue” and took pictures with it. Some of us even took a picture like we were trying to run off with it. (I was innocent, I swear!) Every dealership around the area had rides and parties going on the whole weekend. They did a great job having their HOG group lead rides to locations of interest around the area, like Lambeau Field in Green Bay. Food trucks and local vendors where everywhere at each dealership. They were all keeping the party going! At the end of each night, the Museum would put on a show with the “Wall of Death”, bands playing, and Full Throttle from Sturgis, running the place at night. We were able to spend time just relaxing and hanging out with each other. Ashlea felt this about her experience,” The 2017 H.O.G. Rally in Milwaukee set my passion for HarleyDavidson on fire. I have grown to love this brand and the lifestyle attached to it, but I climbed on the bike for the journey home that Sunday afternoon with an overwhelming feeling of awe and inspiration. Being in that place, the Home of Harley-Davidson, makes you wonder why everyone doesn’t have one of our bikes... Why everyone doesn’t want a part of this. This is love, it is true love, for something spectacular. It is not just about the machine, though that is the catalyst that created the magic we know today. That amazing machine is just the beginningit is the community and the people that make it which is the secret to our magic. This is the secret of HarleyDavidson: The machine got us here, but it is just the means that brought us all together. H-D is the people and their love for this brand. Meeting the Harley-Davidson staff and the H.O.G. Team made it clear that this passion runs deep. We met people from all over the world and developed very real bonds with folks that we had never met before. These bonds will transcend time zones and continents... There are people we see once in a blue moon at H.O.G. Events and it is like no time has passed at all. That is magic, and it is a magic that Harley-Davidson brings to us. When you see a fellow rider at a restaurant or a grocery store, you nod knowingly, sometimes even sparking up a conversation. I developed a bond with my team and the H.O.G. Members that we will share forever. In this trip, was party to making memories that I will never forget. We had adventures, laughs and more. We walked the streets of Milwaukee and discovered the sights, sounds and tastes that it had to offer. That is the magic we felt the whole weekend at the Rally. I felt something walking through the halls of the Museum and the Factory that furthered my amazement of this Motor Company. The innovation, the risks, the rewards, the failures: they make up the fabric of this brand. I learned more about the bikes and the minds behind them than I ever dreamed possible. I learned how one machine evolved into a custom dynasty. I learned how the factory would “build from the top down” with their bikes. The process started at the top floor with paint and finishes, and the bike would be assembled as it moved down each floor until it was ready to be shipped out at the ground floor. The process may not have been intended to be metaphorical, but it was to me. I got the feeling that this company starts with sky-high dreams and brings them down to earth, making them real for the public to enjoy. Succeed or fail, the idea was imagined up and they saw it through. This industry is about passion, it is about grit and it is about making the best machine for everyone. No one is turned away. Anyone who craves freedom can sign up for this ride. I crave freedom, do you?” Overall, it was an amazing experience! There was so much to do and I am ready for next year! Everyone mark it on your calendar for Labor Day weekend, you will want to be in Milwaukee for the 2018 National HOG Rally! I cannot wait to go there for round two, and I know everyone I went with has it on their calendars as well. Come on by Doc’s Harley-Davidson if you want to hear more. THE ALL NEW There’s a new edition in the world of baggers, and its making a huge impact on everyone that has a love for these motorcycles. From a company known for its quality, comfort, and reliability, BMW has officially released its K 1600 B/bagger and it’s a beauty and most definitely a beast. With a 1,649 cc in-line six-cylinder this beast has all the power you could imagine, and so much comfort that you won’t ever want to ride another motorcycle. Gateway BMW now has them on the showroom floor. There are so many options with BMW’s new bagger that I could spend hours talking about them. BMW definitely didn’t hold anything back when designing this motorcycle. I’m going to highlight some of them just so you have a good understanding of the newest bagger on the streets. Let’s start with the engine. The in-line six-cylinder engine they put in it is literally a beast. It has more power than you could imagine in a bagger. The 1,649 cc engine produces 160 hp and 129 lbs-ft of torque. Yes, I said the same thing, WOW! Walking up the K 1600 B you will immediately notice a few design details that have been ported over from its touring sibling, the K 1600 GT. The most obvious is the front end. The fairing, headlight, dash display and hand controls share the same looks but only better. As you move toward the rear, this is where everything begins to change. The chassis was reengineered to house BMW’s inline six-cylinder engine giving the K 1600 B a much lower ride height and longer wheelbase. Another awesome feature on this new bagger is the shift assist pro. Honz, Owner of Gateway BMW, told me the shift assist is, “as smooth as glass, it’s like the paddle shifters on a BMW car.” It also has a reverse assist. The new reverse assist feature helps for comfortable maneuvering. Pressing the starter button initiates movement. The new K 1600 B is particularly easy to maneuver thanks to the reverse assist feature. Next, on to the new Shift Assistant Pro, making shifting up and down without activating the clutch a breeze. This is activated conveniently at the press of a button on the left-hand handlebar panel. BMW didn’t want to just have a powerful bike, they wanted a powerful bike that is comfortable and smooth. Well, they did just that!!! The BMW Bagger arrives standard with three riding modes (Rain, Road, and Dynamic), Dynamic Traction Control, cornering-optimized Page 14

integral ABS Pro, heated seats and hand grips, power adjustable windshield, cruise control, multifunction displays with on-board computer and Dynamic Electronic Suspension Adjustment (D-ESA) with “Road” and “Cruise” damping modes. The rear section of the new K 1600 B has been completely redesigned to significantly reduce the seat height for even more comfort and for even greater ease of access for passengers. With this special bagger style design, the passenger benefits from a rear section that is a full 70 millimeters lower than the 6-cylinder tourer, resulting in a significantly lower seat height. Two attractively shaped passenger seat handles ensure that passengers feel secure on the authentic backward sloping seat. The power adjustable windscreen is a great feature. It will give you a high level of shelter from the wind, whether the windscreen is in the up or down position. When traveling down the highway with the windscreen up, there is little wind buffeting, helping you keep focus on longer trips, which is a huge plus. On to more awesome features, is a re-design of the compartments in the side cases with slimmer covers and deeper body allowing for particularly comfortable and effective loading of luggage. The rear mudguard has been designed to fold upward to make it easier to remove the rear wheel as well. There is enough room in them for a cruise around town, or a cross country trip. Highlighting a few of these amazing features, there is truly so many more amazing things I could say that BMW has done to make this bagger amazing. So, you all need to get your butt’s in gear and go to Gateway BMW and test drive one for yourself and see this beauty and a beast of a bagger in person. You know everyone keeps saying once you ride it you will want to buy it. So, go talk to Honz or any of his amazing staff and see for yourself. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

“OUT WITH OLD, IN
elcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! As all the Bikefest’s, Sturgis’s, Little Sturgis’s, Blues-ing N Barbequing, and Bike weeks across this great country of ours come to an end most of us are still squeezing as many miles in as we can. All of us have noticed and are enjoying the cooler than normal Missouri weather but we also have been watching the abundance of hurricanes roll in on the east coast and one can only wonder what kind of winter is in store for us. With the changing of the seasons comes a massive change for our beloved Harley-Davidson line up.
Unless you’re a rider living as a hermit in a cabin far off in the woods with no media access you most likely have heard about some of the extensive changes that have come to Harley-Davidson in the past few weeks. As for myself I was at ground zero in L.A when the info bomb was dropped onto thousands of Bar and Shield representatives and principals. Change was happening; it was ground breaking as well as mind shattering and for some of us slightly heart breaking. We have seen some changes within the past couple years but this change was one of the most intensive I’ve seen in my almost 14 years in the industry. Let’s just go ahead and address the elephant in the room that is the death of the Dyna. Some folks could have cared less? Some folks had their hearts ripped out of their chests. Some asked the same question I did, “Why of all times right in the middle of the Dyna boom did H-D can the line?” I mean it seemed that stock in tall Stance tube socks, Chuck Taylors, collarless vests, shot gun fairings, Dickie shorts, and Dyna wheelies were at an all-time high! The Dyna’s were on the uptick, so why now? The “FX” or “Factory Experimental” models are where the Dyna platform all started in 1971 as the “Super Glide” that eventual was replaced in 1991 as the Dyna line. The concept was the same, meshing sportster components with Big Twin styling, power and ride. It proved to be a coveted model line loved by many riders who at some point and time owned one throughout their tenure as a Harley owner. So heres to you FX/Dyna line you will be missed…. R.I.P DYNA 1971-2017. As you wipe that tear from your eye unfortunately I have more bad news. The Softail line didn’t make it out unscathed either. In fact the Softail line as we knew it was also dead and gone only to be resurrected again as….wait for it….wait….THE SOFTAIL LINE!!! In my opinion this was an interesting marketing flaw. Why do away with the old to usher in the new with the old “branding” but what do I

N WITH THE NEW”
know? If you weren’t aware the Softail holds some very strong ties to our amazing city of St Louis!! Our claims to fame have always included the Arch, the Zoo, the Cardinals, the Blues, the east side and it also happens to be the birth place of the Harley Softail frame!! Introduced in June 1983 as the 1984 Harley-Davidson FXST Softail, the Softail frame was surprisingly not designed by the Milwaukee factory. It is the creation of Bill Davis, a Harley enthusiast and engineer from good ole St Louie. These bikes featured under the frame dual shock technology and a pivot point that gave the appearance of a hard tail chopper but had the comfortable ride of a suspension system. This platform gave way to one of the most famous and popular bikes in Harleys line up, the Fatboy! As a previous owner of a lovely Springer Softail I, myself, was saddened to see the line go the way of the Dinosaurs. So long Softails…..R.I.P original Softail 1984-2017.
Now that we have all said our condolences and goodbyes to the old ways let’s touch on all the good news and the future coming out of Milwaukee. The new launch of the Softail platforms as a whole is very exciting. With the introduction comes sweeping changes, The Twin Cam motor itself has also gone the way of the Dyna and Softails and will be resting in retirement at the Harley Museum. The new Milwaukee eight powertrain that we saw introduced on the Touring line in 2016 is now in ALL the “big twins” with some slight differences. The Softail “Mil 8” is a rigid mounted motor with a larger two piece counter balancer to dramatically reduce vibration and is only offered in oil cooled options. This has been a proven power house on the touring line and can only get better in a lighter frame! Speaking of frames let’s talk about the all new ground breaking, corner killing platform that is 2018 Softail! This all new frame is new technology that features an under the seat shock set up for better stability and to add overall rigidity to the frame. It seems Billy Davis and his contribution to the Softails continue to influence those at the factory. Before he developed the under the frame tech he designed an under the seat shock mounted frame in 1974 that was sold as the “sub-shock” from Road Werks. But to be truly honest sub frames as such have been in the metric two wheeled world for decades. The one thing that Billy Davis didn’t have in his frames in 1974 was a nifty and convenient USB charging port for ones new IPhone X. The mad scientists at Juno Avenue have truly thought of everything! When www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
Page 35
marketing to the young and up and coming riders I believe this was a good move and with the increased sales at our parts counter for “tech mounts” it’s proven very useful as well. There is a faux oil pan to keep the aesthetic look of a Softail but these hold only the battery and some of the electrical boxes. Even though the new line holds the Softail name we saw some of the iconic Dynas keep their badging. The Lowrider, FatBob and StreetBob all return with serious updating in style on the new Softail frame. While the Lowrider and Streetbob take some subtle changes such as the tank, the Fatbob takes on a whole new look with a squared off LED headlamp a corner killing inverted front end, high mount pipes to increase the lean angle and a stubby rear fender to clear those 12 o’clock wheelies! The original Softail line up returns new and refreshed with some major updating. The classic styling of the Heritage gets the fully blacked out treatment with new leather wrapped hard lockable bags, while the Fatboy gets a fresh redesign featuring a new headlight, a satin chrome finish to all its motor covers and pipes, and the most eye catching 240 rear wheel on the market! These swift and drastic changes what we have seen from the Motor Company in years past. Change isn’t something we have been used to for a while, yes they’ve updated this and improved that but the Twin Cam motor has been around longer than any platform from Harley. As the saying always goes, “Change is hard” and that’s true, some of our diehard fans have turned a cold shoulder denouncing the abomination that is now the Softails, you had others on social media such as Mark from “The Rusty Butcher “ that were cracking wheelies and praising the amazing ride and technology that had been put into the new line up. Our customers have been asking for stronger, faster, lighter bikes for years and the Motor Company delivered if you ask me. Change is in fact hard and is normally met with resistance before being embraced. Swing on by St Charles-Harley and check the new line up for yourself. Thanks for stopping by and yall enjoy the ride!

115th Anniversar H
ow’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Hope you enjoy this article and enjoyed all of our bike nights this year. They will be back next year bigger and better then ever! As the summer comes to a end and fall is peaking around the corner make sure your checking your tire pressure as the temperature changes so does your tires. This month I want to feature the all new limited edition 115th anniversary bikes and the CVO’s ( custom vehicle operation) for 2018. Let’s get started with talking about the 2018 115th anniversary limited edition serialized Harley-Davidson’s. This year that will include 9 models that range through sportster, softail, touring and the CVO family. They came out with two different paint jobs that are both my favorite they have done yet. Legend Blue/Vivid Black will be the gloss finish and Legend Blue Deniem will give you the old school finish. The two-tone really stands out with the pin stripe seperating the two colors and the 115th anniversary tank badge. For the deniem finish you will see a eagle with its talons wrapped around the legendary bar & shield. It really gives it an almost tattoo look and all the attitude behind it. For the Sportster family they picked the Forty-Eight and with that bike being old school already it was a no brainer they picked the Legend Blue Deniem. In the all new Softail line up you will have three models to choose from for a anniversary set up. The Heritage Classic will have the Legend Blue/Vivid Black and the Breakout being the more old with new school attitude will feature the Legend Blue Deniem. The only model in the anniversay line up to feature both the Legend Blue/Vivid Black two-tone as well as Legend Blue Deniem will be the 114ci Fatboy and its really hard to pick which one I like better. In the Touring family you will see four models that made the anniversay cut. The Streetglide Special will have the Legend Blue Deniem and completely blacked out as well. The streetglide standard, Ultra limited and Tri glide ultra will have the Legend Blue/Vivid Black two-tone. The last of the 9 anniversary models will be the CVO Ultra Limited and with its own anniversary color, Odyssey Blue that will catch everyones eye. Now on to the CVO models that Harley-Davidson has brought to the 2018 line up. You will have 3 color options for 3 different models which include the Streetglide, Roadglide and Ultra Limited. All 3 bikes will have the most powerful v-twin engine that Harley has ever offered into a factory bike with the 117ci milwakee eight thats pushing out 125 ft-lb torque. This is the most powerful and smoothest factory install motor to hit the streets. Each one is also equipped with the intergrated security system with power locking fob. New this year to Harley-Davidson and also on each of these models is the all new wireless headsets with wireless headset interface module. Now lets look at some the the individual features and colors of each model.

ry & New CVO’s
Written By Zach White
First, the CVO Streetglide, this year is the best year yet. The 3 color options all have its own features. The Dark Alloy & Black Deniem is blacked out just the way it should with the color combination. The Gunship Gray also blacked out but has color matching front and rear wheels that really makes the simple color come to life. The last color option is Orange Lava & Black Deniem and has a nice contrast mixture of chrome and black. One of the biggest features new to the CVO Streetglide is the powerful audio system. It is equipped with Boom! audio speakers in the fairing, fairing lowers and saddlebags and powered by 3 amps that put out 900 watts. You will be surrounded with the clearest tunes you can imagine and everyone else will be in shock when you pull up or pass by. Next, the CVO Roadglide, a lot of you all have been waiting for it to come back out in the CVO family and here it is. The 3 color options also have there own unique features to go along with it. Black Earth & Vivid Black and the Gunship Gray are blacked out from front to back with the Gunship Gray having the color matched wheels to go with the paint. The Orange Lava & Dark Alloy will give you a even contrast of chrome and black. These bikes will have the power of Boom! audio speakers in the fairing and saddlebags and pushing it with 2 amps and 600 watts. The biggest feature this year on the CVO Roadglide and a first in the touring style family is the factory 21” front wheel. This wheel really brings out the front end of this bike and one of the first things I noticed when it rolled out at the dealershow. Now, the CVO Ultra Limited, the ulitimate touring machine that has almost every bell and whistle you could want for thousands of miles ahead of you. This machine has heated grips and seat along with a tour pak, luggage rack and front and rear LED lights all around to see and be seen. This is the only CVO model that is twin cooled and will come in handy while your traveling to the next rally and the wonderful rally stop and go traffic. The Black Eearth Fade is completely blacked out and what a stealth machine it is. The Burgundy Cherry Sunglo Fade has a nice mixture of chrome and black. Both of these models having the all new faded paint and once you get close to them you really see the fine work that comes out. The last color which I mentioned talking about with the anniversary models is the Odyssey Blue thats decked out in so much chrome. Each of these bikes are unique in so many different ways so you will have to see them in person to really feel the art that is made in these machines. If you haven’t rode one of the new 2018 Harley-Davidson’s and especially the new softail family make sure to stop in. Really looking forward to the future of Harley-Davidson and everything they will be bringing to all of us. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and please come into St. Charles Harley-Davidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email, zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set a consultation with me! I’m here to make all your Harley-Davidson dreams come true! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
