Welcome to April Full Throttle Readers. Spring is officially here and we are starting to get the list of the many great rides and events happening this season. We are excited to be part of so many great events again this year and appreciate that you, our reader and fans keep our magazine the most read and sought after free motorcycle magazine in the Midwest. I want to keep reminding you about a few of the bike nights that we are involved in to make sure we see everyone there this season. The weekly “Historic Route 66 Bike Night” at Bobby’s Place in Valley Park kicks off Weds nights starting April 04 and will run through the end of October. This has certainly become the biggest weekly bike night in the area. This year, as we have promised, will have more events going on and great food and drink specials to make this the best weekly Bike Night to attend. Launching their Calendar Girl Search and the Huge St Charles Harley & St Charles Motorsports Bike Night is happening on Thursday April 05 and running each month through September 20th. This always proves to be one of the largest and most exciting monthly bike nights anywhere. Also beginning in April, One eyed Willies Bike Night will happen beginning on April 19th and every third Thursday throughout the season. Mike and his beautiful girls always put on a great party and even more so when it’s their Bike Night. If you have never been to One Eyed Willies Bike Night then make this a must attend. I always say if you can’t have fun at One Eyed Willies, you just can’t have fun. Bikefest plans are in full swing and this year will be bigger and better. Event dates are Weds September 12th through Sunday September 16th. So make your reservations early for the best rates and best rooms. We are excited to announce that Full Throttle Magazine once again this year is the “Exclusive” Magazine sponsor for Bikefest 2018. Full Throttle Magazine is also working with the Bikefest Committee to take over the setup and handling of the Passport Ride for the event. We will be working together with the Committee to make this event fun to participate in, an awesome and scenic ride and the best part is someone will win a Brand New Harley Davidson motorcycle on Sunday at 3pm. Remember the passport books are only $20 and the money goes to help support the Bikefest event and you could be the winner of the New Harley Davidson motorcycle from Lake Ozark Harley. As always, ride safe my friends and we will see you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob

We here at Doc’s Harley-Davidson don’t think teaching you to ride is enough. Oh no, that’s just the start of it! While you’re taking your class, you will be taken on a personal tour of our awesome dealership and will be able to visit each department. We’ll take you through the Motorclothes department so you can find that awesome new helmet, get that sick looking jacket, or try on those riding boots you’ve had your eye on. Our Motorclothes ladies are going to make sure you’re informed on how to dress while riding. I’m sure you’ve heard the statement before, dress for the slide, not for the ride. Safety first! we’ll also take you through the whole showroom and show you all the bikes we have to offer here at Doc’s Harley-Davidson. We’ll make sure that you’re getting the bike you want! Careful though, there are a lot of options… you might never want to leave! You’ll get to talk to our Customization Specialists in the Parts department who will give you the run down on what we do to give these bikes your personal touch and how we can make adjustments on the bikes to make them fit you perfectly. Lastly, we’ll take you to the Service department where you’ll learn about how we work on the bikes here at Doc’s. You’ll learn about the maintenance side of owning a Harley-Davidson Motorcycle. You’ll get to walk through our Service department and see our technicians working on bikes first-hand. Good news for military and first responders, the Riding Academy course is only going to cost you $99.00 as a part of our special thank you offer! Sign up from April 1st through September 30th to benefit from this awesome deal! You’ll also receive a $100 Doc’s Harley-Davidson gift card after you pass the class! The cost of taking the Riding Academy course? $349.00. Leaving Doc’s Harley-Davidson ready to hit the road and make your dreams a reality? Priceless. So, what are you waiting for? Cruise Inn and

ull Throttle Magazine Midwest is beyond excited to tell all our readers and followers about the newest member of our advertising family. The Cruise Inn and Throttle down. This is a place that every biker needs to go and stay a few nights. It’s an awesome “BIKER” motel, bar, and all around amazing and fun place to be. Yes, you read that right “BIKER” motel. All 13 rooms are different BIKER themes. After talking with the wonderful owners of this motel, Chip and Evie, this is way more than just your regular motel. There’s no way you won’t have a blast while you’re there and you most likely won’t want to leave. They have live entertainment, amazing food, bonfires with locals and just an all-around good time. But we will get into more of that later. I am going to start by giving you a little background where they came from and what they did prior to The Cruise Inn and Throttle down. Chip and Evie met in Spain and immediately feel in love. Soon after they met they went and got married in Italy. Their dream was to one day own a boat and explore the open waters. As many of you can relate, life and family became their priority and that dream was set aside….for now! Years later, after all their children were grown and out of the house, Chip and Evie decided that their long time dream to set sail to charters unknown needed to become a reality. They purchased a 30-foot sailboat, packed up and left Eureka Springs, Arkansas in 1991. They hoisted anchor in the Arkansas river in Little Rock; traveled down the Arkansas River, joining the Mississippi River and into the Gulf of Mexico. Even though money was tight, this adventure needed to happen for the both of them. Being that this whole adventure was very new to them, taking baby steps at first was the best approach. For the first year or so, they kept close to the coast until they were able to gain their sea legs. Once their sea legs where firmly underneath them; nothing was holding them back. Off to the Virgin Islands and the Bahamas they went taking it all in and enjoying their lives. But the journey didn’t stop there. After having several years of sea life behind them, they parked their boat and decided to attended sea school where they obtained their captain’s licenses. Not long after that, an awesome gentleman came into their lives who happen to be a great inventor and overall a stand up guy. He invented the self-locking, self-tapping screw. He offered Chip and Evie the Captains’ position on his 85foot motored yacht. For close to eight years Chip and Evie took this gentleman and his family up and down the coast of Florida to Maine, as well as many other places. Chip and Evie decided to retired from that job and purchased a 54-foot boat for themselves and wanted to be closer to home. So again, they packed up and moved to New Orleans. Little did they know hurricane Katrina was soon to tear through New Orleans. In 2005, tragedy struck and hurricane Katrina took almost everything they owned including their new 54-foot boat. I can’t even imagine what they were feeling; just horrible. Chip saw the radar and knew Katrina was going to destroy everything in her path. They had just enough time to pack up a

few items, throw it on the back of their motorcycle they just purchased and get the hell out of there, FAST. They headed straight north into Missouri where they were able to seek refuge at a friend’s timeshare. While they were there, they saw a couple motorcycle motels. Right then and there a lightbulb went off in both of their heads, and both thought they would love to open one for themselves. After having this idea, Chip and Evie stopped at a local real estate office and found a 13-bedroom resort they went and looked at. They were very hesitant at first because it needed a lot of work, not structural, just cosmetic. Evie said “ABSOLUTLY NOT” … at first. They went to look a second time with some friends who owned apartment complexes and had been in the business for a long time. After a long discussion with their close friends, weighing the pros and cons, Chip and Evie jumped in with both feet and Cruise-Inn and Throttle Down was going to become a reality. In 2006 they bought motel and completely gutted everything out of all 13 rooms. After they finished with the complete remodel each room had a different motorcycle theme, as well as spacious deck’s that overlook Table Rock Lake. They call it the million-dollar view. Once you see it you will agree. You could feasibly stay in a different room each time you visit and have a different experience every time. It doesn’t stop there, they have a full bar and restaurant, a big 9-foot deep pool, hot tub, bike wash station, covered parking for your bikes, laundry facilities and just added this year, a Tiki bar by the pool. I almost forgot the beer garden as well, with over 120 different types of beer. Make your reservations today for amazing sunset dinners where you can relax, enjoy the view, and get a true home cooked meal. The motel is a mile and a half south of the Kimberling City bridge on highway 13. There’s only three roads that cross the lake and they are right in the middle with, by far, the best view. The rides you can take, that are all close by, are some of the best around. Being only eight miles away from the Arkansas boarder, you can go down to the Pig Trail and back in less than a day. Check out their website www. cruise-inns.com . Chip and Evie have had a life of fun and adventure and even endured tragic loss. But, that has no way held them back at all. They have worked day and night to make The Cruise Inn and Throttle down the best it could possibly be. I have no doubt in my mind once you make the trip there, you will want to go back www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

Velocity H

ow’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. The bike season is here and that means bike nights are back. The first one of the season kicks off on April 5th with a theme focused around Sports and will continue the first Thursday of the month all summer long. Check out our website for up to date info on all our events. Can’t wait to see everyone out at the biggest bike night in the area. Now lets talk about the latest custom build to hit our showroom floor, a 2018 Road Glide. What stands out when you see this bike is the Custom HarleyDavidson “Velocity” limited series 135 of 225 paint set. The chances of seeing it on a Road Glide around your area is not going to happen. While at the Annual Harley dealer show last August, I was able to see this paint set first hand and WOW! We went straight to the ordering area and put our name in the lottery for a complete set for a Road Glide. The lines flow very nicely and in my eyes looks better then any of the CVO paint sets offered. The Piano Black with Blue Midnight Sky Pearl really pops the closer you get to the bike. The Nebula Silver lower half is broke up by the Charcoal Fade lines which makes this bike look like its moving as it sits still. To separate the two main colors you will see the HD Orange race stripe, it really makes for a perfect finish to one amazing paint job. Now lets move onto some of the other upgrades to this one of a kind motorcycle. We didn’t want it to just be another custom paint set on a Harley so we added some of our favorite upgrades to complete it. This bike’s sound system is powered by the Boom! Audio front and saddlebag lid speakers and two 300 watt amplifiers. The speakers give the rider that wants that extra bass just that. With its Woofer, Mid Range and tweeter all in one speaker housing. You will turn heads as you pull up to any crowd with music to the ears. With the sound system and amazing paint job it was time to bring this bike together as a whole. So we went with the Harley-Davidson black front end kit and matched it with a 15 Spoke gloss black wheel. It really helps make Page 24

www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

the wrapped front fender stand out even more and the start of the clean lines from front to back. To give it a work out and really tighten up the sides of the bike we eliminated the engine guard. Just a small adjustment like this really brings everything together. We had to give the passenger some love and we all know we can’t have to much storage so you will see the matching chopped tour-pak. This low slim tour-pak really flows perfect with the top of the fairing. It is detachable so when you are doing your day trips you can easily remove it to lighten up the load and show off the racing stripes on the rear fender. From the amazing paint job, sound system and black and chrome throughout this motorcycle is truly a dream bike come true just waiting for some of your own personal add-ons to make it your one of a kind motorcycle. When you pull up to the next bike night this bike will first catch the eye of the crowd with its sound system before the visual effect of one amazing paint set gets everyone coming over to look at your amazing machine. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and please come into St. Charles Harley-Davidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email, zach@ stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set a consultation with me! I’m here to make all your Harley-Davidson dreams come true!

Bikers Helping Bikers

It’s all in the name! Our organization has been around for 30 years since Tom Hartbauer thought that the time was right for someone to “Help Our Own”. Through the years we have grown from H.O.G. Chapters supporting and helping fund us, to our Incorporation in 1997 and becoming a 501 (C) (3) Not-ForProfit recognized by the Federal Gov’t. in 2003. We are proud that our Officers, Board and all our Representatives are bikers and UNPAID VOLUNTEERS who do this out of the love of motorcycles, those who ride and the lifestyle, no matter what you ride, what you wear or who you are. If you encounter a True Hardship and are a Biker living within 100 miles of the Gateway Arch, we want to assist you financially with a “Hand Up…Not a Hand Out”, when you need it most. Our application process is pretty straightforward, but some requirements are in place. We offer only financial assistance. To date we have disbursed over $300,000.00 to more than 600 bikers, and is some instances their family members. Hardships are not only due to motorcycle related injuries, but illnesses and loss due to floods, fires and other accidents. Our organization is officially named “The Hartbauer/McBride Memorial Foundation, Incorporated”. But through our “Biker Fund” we are: Bikers Helping Bikers You can view our history and almost anything you want to know about us on our Website shown below as well as our Facebook page. “The road goes on forever a I

’d like to personally welcome back all of our Full Throttle readers and riders one last time as this will be my final installment. They say the only thing in this world that is constant is change, take a look around yourself. Self driving cars, Siri, smart phones, social media and so on. The world is not the same, constantly changing and adapting. That’s why as a separate breed of humans we gravitate to our two wheeled passion to get away from realities of the world for at least a moment. Nothing matters in that moment but the next couple hundred yards into the next turn. I’ve been told “if you do what you love for a living you will never work a day in your life.” Hell, if anyone stopped by the shop on any given day or any event it is an arguable fact that I wasn’t “working” at all. I’d have to say I’m one of the lucky human beings who loves his industry and all that it entails even if it was “work”. I’ve had the opportunity to share my passion with so many others via a conversation at the shop or you the reader simply picking up this magazine. Over the years I’ve brought to our readers everything from personal product knowledge, safety tips, suggested events to hit and over all opinions. Some of those product suggestions and opinions you may not have agreed with and thats what makes this article great. You didn’t have to agree but you, as the reader, picked out the bits and pieces that work for you. I can’t thank enough those who stopped me to say how much you enjoyed the articles, jokes and opinions. And even to those who pulled me aside to discuss a different perspective and offer constructive criticism I also thank you. In 2004 a fiery red head named Patty gave shot to a young, wet behind the ears kid to work the parts counter in her dealership. Later Brad the owner of St Charles Harley gave me the tools to succeed even further in this industry and for those two I am very Page 28

grateful. I’ve had the opportunity to work with and mentor many amazing employees and have made more clients into life long friends than I can count. Big thanks to the friends I worked with that have supported me and taught me through the years, if you are reading this you know exactly who you are. I can’t thank Bob and Cindy enough for the opportunity to reach out to riders via Full Throttle. They asked me many years ago to be involved and I have loved bringing you every article. This isn’t a “goodbye” more like “see ya later”. I will still be out on rides and raising hell with my hooligan buddies talking motorcycles. And if you think I’d ever leave the motorsports industry you’re crazy! I’ll still be involved with the V-Twin Industry and motorsports outside the dealership. Thanks for always taking the time to pick up the best local rag in Missouri and reading our articles, I hope at least one was helpful or stuck with ya. I may not be a millionaire in this industry but I consider myself rich with friends, stories and experiences in this amazing two wheeled life.........thanks for stopping by one last time.....Y’all enjoy the ride. Marshall Tucker Back when Bob and I revived Full Throttle Magazine over four year ago, Marshall Tucker was the first person we had in mind to be one of our tech writers. He has been our friend and in the motorcycle industry for many years and we felt this would be a great fit. When we ask Marshall to take on this task, he jumped at the opportunity. Even through his crazy whirlwind life; from his work to the traveling he did for work, even in the midst of his wedding and honeymoon to Jamie, Marshall still managed to produce great articles. His witty sense of humor and all of his colorful adjectives always put a giggle in our bellies. Through all that wit, there were a lot of great tips and knowledge he enjoyed sharing. Even though we wish him nothing but the best, he will be missed, as he was always such a big part of Full Throttle Magazine Midwest. I asked him just today if he would miss my last minute text messages say “Hey Marshall, We are going to the printer in the morning. How’s the article coming?” He gave me the LOL, and said he would miss that. Good Luck our FRIEND, It’s been a great ride. We will see you on the road! Page 29

o many things in life bring up a memory, it can be a song to make you think about your high school sweetheart. It can even be a site or smell of something. For me and so many people I talk to, it is seeing a cool car. A lot of those conversations start with “I remember my first car or I had a car just like that.” Then you hear some really cool stories about the family who had owned it and passed it down to them or you get to hear all of the fun they had in their cars. A lot of them end with “I wish I never got rid of that car.” I really like it when they tell me they still have them after all of those years. And then there are the people that are getting comfortable in life that have never let go of their memory, so they find another car like that special one. That brings us to Fred and Anna Thacker, when they met in 1983 they both owned Z/28’s. How cool would that be; marrying a girl just for her car. But when you realize you both own the same type of car, you know it was a match made in Detroit car heaven. This car in particular, a 1973 Camaro, they have owned for 3 years now and Fred has done a lot of cleaning and detailing to make it really stand out. The lighting systems weren’t really that good back then so he added custom LED tail lights as well as upgrading the rest of the lighting to LED. Other than that, the Camaro is pretty much the way it was when he bought it.

For power it has the original 350 cu.in. engine with all of 175 horse power and a Turbo 350 with a shift kit added. The rear end is stock with the very Highway friendly 3.08:1 gears. Page 36

The chassis and suspension is all OEM, just like the braking system. The very popular Z/28 Rally wheels are 15X7 all around with 215/70/15” BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. This combination has been the choice to have for years and I know we have all added them to at least one of our cars. If you walk up to this Camaro at one of the numerous shows or cruise they attend regularly you will find the interior is even in factory form down to the bucket seats. The body hasn’t been all modified or customized as many have been, but the color is a Custom base coat/clear coat light bronze metallic and looks great in the sun. The overall look and feel of this ’73 is just the way we remember them to be and what caused so many to buy them. Now that Fred and Anna have walked down memory Lane and really had a good time doing it, all things call for change. When you start your journey, you will get married, buy your house and then have a child. Next thing you know you find yourself in a bigger and better home and more children. It is the same with your car, you love it but you know it can be bigger, better and so much faster. As I am writing this Fred is turning his wrenches in his shop at home with the new 402 Cubic Inch Big Block Chevy motor. Great place to start but it is not stopping there, with the new motor it will also be Fuel Injected with hopes of 500 horse power which should be easy. It will have 3” Borla exhaust and cut-outs for the added power and sound. The suspension will be upgraded with coil-overs and a 4 link system with a FORD 9” rear axle that we already talked about me adding. I even get to have some fun with his car. His thoughts for steering will be a fast ratio steering box or Rack & Pinion. The Rally wheels & BFG’s will be set aside for the BOZE Clutch 19X9 & 19X11 black satin wheels wearing 275/30 and 325/30 Nitto Invo tires. To make sure the power don’t get out of hand the Wilwood disk brakes will be on all 4 corners. Dakota Digital gauges will be installed to watch over things and the Vintage Air will keep Fred and Anna cool if they weren’t already cool enough just driving this beautiful Camaro. Keep making those wonderful memories together www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
