The Future of Sco
y now, most of you should know the name Scott Jacobs. He is the official licensed artist for Harley-Davidson, a well renowned photo-realist artist and an all around amazing person with the heart and compassion as big as his name. Scott and his family are currently based out of San Diego, CA. His wife, Sharon of 31 years does the accounting, his oldest daughter, Olivia runs the gallery, and his youngest, Alexa works as his under painter. Which such a tightknit family business, you have to wonder what’s next. What does the future hold for Scott Jacobs Studio? Having been Harley-Davidson’s first licensed artist since 1993, Scott attended South Dakota’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally to showcase his newest painting. Year after year he sold his art and year after year he felt a natural pull towards the area. He began finding himself wanting to stay longer just to soak in the fresh air, but one thing was missing; his family. It was 2005 that he brought his family to work alongside him for the first time; they were instantly hooked. Scott found it more than tedious and expensive having to either book a hotel room or rent a house. The same year that his wife and daughters first joined him, a good friend heard there were townhomes being built behind the local Spearfish hotel. Come to find out, they were all for sale, so Scott and fellow motorcycle group members jumped at the opportunity to own a place for the annual Sturgis Rally. Therefore, the Jacobs made Spearfish, South Dakota their second home. Bye-bye hotel…hello to a place to call their own. As the years went by, the Jacobs Family found themselves planning short vacations to their small home in the hills. That helped create close friendships with locals, which really made it a home away from home. Not too long ago, Scott’s eldest daughter, Olivia and her boyfriend started talking about moving out of California and somewhere smaller and farther North, like Montana, Idaho, or South Dakota. The topic would come up at dinner, but it wasn’t until Scott and Sharon heard her talk about “grandchildren” that they were set on moving too. Even though San Diego has been home to the Jacobs for twenty years, this gave them the perfect excuse to simplify their lives and relocate. It was then that they started seeking new places to put their studio and art gallery. They wanted to find a place that they could have multiple Page 10

facets, like a studio for Scott and a gallery/ retail front. Downtown Sturgis was not the most ideal place because it does not generate traffic yearround, which is what they wanted. So they thought about downtown Deadwood. It is a very touristy town loaded with history and due to the fact that one of Scott’s show locations during the rally is in Deadwood; it seemed to be the perfect fit. Now that the location was settled, it was time to find the building. They ended up finding the perfect spot located smack in the middle of Lower Main street in the heart of Deadwood. They closed on it just this past September. The building is one of the oldest buildings in Deadwood; built in 1876. Right outside its front doors is where Jack McCall, the man who shot Wild Bill Hickok was caught. It used to be two buildings separated by a narrow staircase that took you up to apartments. One building was Goldberg Grocery and the other was Herrman Treber Liquor Store. A previous owner blew through the brick wall and brought the staircase inside to connect the two storefronts. Upstairs, one side will be used as Scott’s studio and other as a three-bedroom apartment. All in all, there is a total of over 10,000 square feet. As I was talking to Olivia, she was telling me that they wanted to keep the integrity of their historical building. During the renovation, they found seven different floors on the Goldberg side, beer bottles from the 1860’s and stencils that were used to label the liquor barrels. They have plans to showcase these artifacts for all to experience. Another original item they plan to showcase is the meat locker from 1909, which they’re turning into a Hat Room full of handmade leather hats. Their goal with their new Flagship location is not to create just another store to buy t-shirts, but to create an experience that their customers will never forget. Now, Scott is still traveling the world promoting his work and when he’s home, he is spending his time in the studio creating more artwork for us to enjoy. His busy schedule www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com
Page 11
has left him with little time to oversee the construction of the new building, so Sharon took it upon herself to oversee it. She flies back and forth to work directly with contractors, attend city meetings, and anything else to ensure their Grand Opening happens on time. This was also perfect for Olivia; wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of Southern California, she will be able to move and be in charge of merchandising the building as managing the storefront and its day-to-day adventures. She and her family pride themselves on being Patriotic. They love their country and what we stand for, so they are working towards having as much of their products as possible made in the good ole’ US of A. Their plan is to have it open by June of this year. So whether you enjoy venturing up to the Black Hills for that family vacation or you’re planning on attending the Sturgis Rally, make sure to visit Deadwood, South Dakota and relish in the heritage that the new Scott Jacobs Gallery brings to light.

“Gimme’ Shelter”
About a month or so ago, I got a call from our friend, Olivia Jacobs. She told me that her father just finished his latest Motorcycle paint and asked us if we wanted to use it as a front cover. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity to showcase another piece of Scott’s work. That’s one thing I love about this business, creating relationships with some of the most amazing people. Making connections no matter how far across the country they are. Most of the time, Scott uses a family member as the model for his paintings. This piece, his daughter, Olivia, was the model using her own bike. Please enjoy Scott Jacobs latest piece and in inner workings of “Gimme’ Shelter”.

MAKE IT A PL When you here the name Jim Trenary, what is the first thing that comes to your mind? An automobile dealership; those wacky commercials that you see on TV; or how about motorsports? Well, you would be right on all three counts. Jim Trenary automotive dealerships have been around for many years. Over 37 years ago, before he got his own dealerships, he was working as the General Manager at Auffenberg Ford/Lincoln/Mercury. That’s where he met his wacky cohort Jack Gonzales, better known at Gonzo. At that time Jack was working for Jim as sales person. Through the next five years, Jim and Jack developed a strong business relationship as well as a friendship; as Jack headed up the ranks from sales to Fleet Manager and then to Truck Manager. In the mid 1980’s Jim had an opportunity to go in as partners with a dealership. He partnered up with Jack Schmidt and together they bought out Bo Beuckman in Collinsville, IL. Jack followed Jim to Collinsville and went back into sales, from there he quickly got promoted to Used Car Manager and then to General Sales Manager. They continued to work side by side over the course of the next ten to eleven years. The mid 1990’s rolled around and Jim had another opportunity to go solo, buying out a Chevrolet franchise in St. Charles, MO, Meagher Chevrolet. Jack continued to go where Jim went. The business/friendship camaraderie was clearly undeniable between these two. Shortly after the New Jim Trenary Chevrolet was up and running, Jim had to chance to expand his franchise and purchase another dealership in Troy, MO. This time Jim brought Jack in as partners. Through the years, Jim Trenary continued to expand his franchise with Jack by his side; adding a dealership in Union, MO, and moving his Chevy dealership from St. Charles, MO to O’Fallon, MO all the while make it a household name. Now digressing just, a bit, Jack and Jim along with Jims’ son Kyle have always been big motorcycle/powersports enthusiasts. That’s the one thing that was never sacrificed; taking the opportunity to hop on the back of a motorcycle or kicking up some dirt with a dirt bike or side by Page 14

LAY DAY AT side; there was always room for a play day. But, Jack wanted more play days. He felt it was time to retire. This past July, he made that a reality. BUUUUTTTT, that was short lived. Jim and his son Kyle having always bought their powersports toys from J & W Cycles on in Washington, MO, had mentioned for time to time, that if they ever wanted to sell their store, he would be interested. Well, just this past summer another opportunity came along. Trenary got his wish. He bought out J & W Cycles. As I mentioned before, Jack’s retirement was short lived because Jim approached Jack once again asking him, if he would want to come out of retirement and run their newly acquired motorsports store. Jack, having a massive love for the motorcycle industry, this really was a no brainer. What better way to continue to work with his best friend and be surrounded by his favorite hobby? It’s the best of both worlds. J & W Cycles was already a welled oiled machine, but with Jim and Kyle Trenary and Jack Gonzales at the helm, it is better than ever. When you walk in, you will still be greeted with some of those old familiar faces as well as a few new ones. Jack describes the Trenary Automotive Family as the best places to be a part of; everyone gets along with each other. It’s doesn’t matter if you are working at the Union, Troy, O’Fallon or the Motorsports store; they all have built this amazing camaraderie. I can tell you, from a consumer’s point of view, you can feel it as soon as you walk on to the show room floor. You are welcomed into their family as if you were kin. So the next time you’ve got a motorsports itch to scratch, take a walk on the wide side and head out to Washington, MO to Jim Trenary Motorsports. Carrying many lines of toys; like Kawasaki, Yamaha, Victory, Honda, Polaris, and Suzuki, I guarantee you will find what you are looking for. But remember, Sunday is always a PLAY DAY! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

COMPUTER DIAGNOSIS
One day Bill complained to his friend that his elbow really hurt. His friend suggested that he go to a computer at the drug store that can diagnose anything quicker and cheaper than a doctor. ‘’Simply put in a sample of your urine and the computer will diagnose your problem and tell you what you can do about it. It only costs $10.” Bill figured he had nothing to

Two Monsters Coming to Town
riends, we are so stoked. Harley-Davidson is doing it again. They have decided that the 2016 line-up wasn’t massive enough, so they are releasing two BRAND NEW BIKES! This March, the Low Rider S and the CVO Pro Street Breakout will be hitting the road and headed to dealerships! We at Doc’s Harley-Davidson can’t wait to get ours and get them some great new homes! Who wants to hear about these bad boys? The Low Rider S is the newest and meanest in a long, prestigious line of Low Riders, which have been rolling out of production since 1977. With a Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine and heavy breather intake fitted into the Dyna chassis, you get power combined with agility, providing performance like never before. Utilizing mid-mount controls, tall bars, and a new seat position, the Low Rider S squares you off and helps you hold on to all that raw power. To increase the ride enjoyment, the front and rear suspension are both composed of premium product. Harley has a new gold touch, using hints of the color to highlight the almost fully blacked-out bike. The Bar & Shield emblazoned on the tank mirrors the 5-spoke cast aluminum wheels: gold, gold, gold. The lines of the bike are so clean, accentuated by the minimalistic color scheme. From the fixed speed screen to the gold spoked wheels, this bike is going to take you for a ride. The CVO Pro Street Breakout is a fully-realized, race-inspired aggressive monster. Along with the raw, awesome power, Harley-Davidson has added some killer new finishes to this machine. The engine alone has three separate finishes on it, but the major visual focus of this bike is the new Smoked Satin Chrome finish. This can be seen on the drag bar, pipes, push rods, cylinder heads and timer cover. This adds to the rich tones and dark look of the bike, really making it a show-stopper. The Smoked Satin carries over into other parts of the bike as well: the 5-spoke aggressor wheels are a gloss smoke black and the braided lines are Smoked Satin, as well. Much like the Low Rider S, this bike is almost fully blacked-out. This look is a new direction for Harley-Davidson, a vast departure from decades of chrome domination. You will not want for anything on this bike, as it has the bite AND the bark. The drag bar, seating position and forward controls provide immediate access to the power cranked out by the Screamin’ Eagle Twin Cam 110 engine. That engine empties its roar into staggered, blunt-cut mufflers that you will definitely hear coming. The 240 mm rear tire tears down the pavement with the grip befitting a tiger, in case the roar wasn’t enough to prove it. This bike is a monster… with dark presence and a colossal torque. Now, who wants to SEE these bad boys! We will keep you posted on our Doc’s Harley-Davidson Facebook and Website, and as soon as they hit the floor, we will make sure you are the first to know! Don’t miss out on these! With pedigrees like these, they won’t be around for long!

Old School Style wit How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here from St. Charles Harley-Davidson to give you the latest and greatest info on whats been going on around the shop. Seminar season has been great this year, thank you all for making it in. Now ready for mother nature to make the change and the riding season to really kick off.
This month I’m going to feature a bike that myself and a lot of others start off on in the Harley-Davidson world, a Sportster. This sportster really brought back memories of mine and got that itch back to still want one. This redesigned 2016 Harley-Davidson FortyEight with the eye 70’s style graphics & eye catching hard candy Cancun blue flake on the tank. The handling on this bike is now even better with the new Emulsion Rear Shock with Screw Adjuster that has the tool under the seat for on the fly adjustment and the big and beefy 49mm front end with Cartridge damping technology that helps you hit the corners even harder and have the comfort under control with each bump. Some more upgrades they made to the redesigned Forty-Eight is the front and rear brake calipers and option of ABS! You have 300mm brake rotors and a powerful, front caliper with 34mm pistons and rear caliper to match. The big fat tire on the front is now mounted to a new special split 9-Spoke design front and rear rim. The light weight of this new rim along with it all blacked out and just a hint of machined highlights in the center really give it some attitude. It also comes from the factory with similar rotors and sprocket to finish off the look. The new speedometers on the Forty-Eight has a gear indicator read out so you don’t have to pull the clutch in to shift down to first gear, we all know we have had to do that a time or two. It also now has a feature for a tachometer read out all with a push of the trip indicator! Alright, now its time for all the add-ons that we felt really made this bike complete and the style of a true Forty-Eight that our clients are looking for and ready to hit the streets without the wait time of picking it all out, getting the parts in and then installing it. Who doesn’t want a bike that has some awesome modifications done and ready to hit the streets without the wait time. First thing we did was took the wheels off this bike so we could remove the stock black wall tires

and install some Harley-Davidson scripted wide white wall tires. With the white walls on the bike it really brings back the retro style and helps make the new black slotted 9 spoke stand out even more! The machined wheels, rotors & sprocket really flow great with the white walls and complete the new look! Now for some style we installed the Harley-Davidson black Lo Chizeled handlebars with a low 4” rise and a tip to tip measurement of just 27”. It gives it the west coast look and we all know splitting lanes is a must out west and these bars allow that with ease. Now for the rear of the bike we install the detachable one piece black upright. Leaving the pad off and just a nice even flow from the handlebars to the sweeping backrest really complete the classic bobber look that this bike needs! We also installed some black with chrome band nostalgic grips. For performance we added a Screamin’ Eagle round high flow air cleaner. Leaving the stock cover off and just installing the number one skull collection air cleaner cover helped clean up the motor area and make it nice and simple. The exhaust we choose was the new Vance & Hines Hi-Output Grenades with innovative three step mufflers and tapered CNC machined billet end caps. The deep tone that comes out of this motor can’t be explained. You need to come in and listen to the rumble that comes out of this exhaust. To make sure the fuel and air was correct with the air cleaner and exhaust we installed the NEW Vance & Hines fuelpak FP3. This fuel management system allows you to auto tune your bike from your smart phone. This build was a lot of fun watching it all come together. Stop in and check out this bike for yourself and throw your leg over for a fun ride! I would like to thank our Master Technician Nick Gallyoun for making sure everything was perfect and the bike was ready to hit the showroom floor and your garage soon. I’m looking forward to what’s new next month here at St. Charles HarleyDavidson. Come in and check out this bike and make it your own. Give me a call @ 636-946-6487 or come in and see me Zach white, to set up your personal consultation to make your dream bike a reality. Thanks again for taking the time to read this, looking forward to seeing you all in the shop with the weather turning for the better. As always, I’m here to make all your Harley-Davidson dreams come true! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

“T IRE - D O F Welcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! Seems like most of St.
Louis and the surrounding areas have dodged a wintery bullet this season as we saw few snow storms and mild temps! With the weather agreeing and the streets clear this gave way to plenty of opportunities to get out and log a few miles! This “riding thing” is something most of us just can’t resist, “live to ride, ride to live” as the saying goes. Before you throw that leg over and get ready to burn out of the drive way ask yourself this. “What kind of condition are my tires in? Once the temps start to hit tolerable levels we are quick to get prepared with the proper clothing, thicker gloves to keep the wind out, heated gear to keep us warm, a full face helmet vs our normal open lid for added protection. Through all this preparation many overlook the simple prep of the motorcycle itself. Yes we should all “T-CLOCK” before we ride but let’s take this one step further. Sure all the lights work and the horn makes noise and hell, the PSI on your tires might be spot on! But there are a few extra steps we can take to protect ourselves and our prize possessions! Never forget our tires are the first line of defense between us and the road! Just like the Budweiser you may have enjoyed over the weekend has a born on date, so do your tires! This is just as important for your tires as it is for your beer! No one wants a skunky tire or beer in their life. Why is this “born on dating” so important? Well tires can expire just like a beer sitting on a shelf. The materials and composites break down over time due to UV damage, weather conditions and over all wear and tear. The tire begins to harden as dry rot sets in and the tire starts to loose traction at its critical points including the center line as well as lean angle contact patches. Some slight moisture or oil slick will send these tires into bad situations. How do I read a born on date? Simple! Look at the side wall and you will find a four digit number that will look like this “0116”. To the untrained eye it doesn’t seem like much. But this number is very important. The first two numbers “01” represent the week of the year it was produced. The “16” is the year produced, so Page 32

this tire would have been “born” in the first week of January in 2016. This is a fresh non skunky tire! This number will help you keep fresh tires on your bike and please don’t feel like you have to wear a tire tread out for it to expire. Most tire companies recommend a tire change within 4-6 years of install even if the tread is still good. This brings me to my next point on tires. In this day and age everyone’s looking for the best deal and I get that. But understand if you’re buying a high mileage tire to simply avoid additional tire changes you are not using that tire properly. A high mileage tire should do just that! Run for miles and miles, but in an allotted time. If you are the type of rider that runs ten thousand miles or more in a year this tire is for you. If you are logging less than twenty five hundred miles a year this type of tire will last you forever! And that’s not necessarily a good thing. Sure you are avoiding added costs of product and labor but that tire tread is going to exceed the life of the tire itself. Most people don’t realize we can help you pick a “designer” tire for your personal needs here at St Charles Harley-Davidson and we can even help out our metric riders at Big St Charles Motorsports! If your dealer isn’t asking you the right “qualifying” questions come and see us out in St Chuck! We can help you pick that high mileage tire, like a Dunlap Elite touring tire, to get you through your trips this summer. Maybe you have a built dyna or sporty that could use the corner capable Avon Cobra series? Come on in and let our parts and service professionals guide your decision making process straight to success. Don’t be fooled by online offers, the pricing may look good but you have no clue how old that tire is not to mention does that pimply faced kid on the other end of the online chat or phone really know what he’s talking about? Let my team and I here at the shop help ya out. With some of the best tire install prices in town, we won’t be beat! Thanks for stopping by and yall enjoy the ride! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

Getting Your Bike Re With spring just around the corner I know your itching to ride! But let’s not hit the road until you make sure your bike is safe and as ready to ride as you are. Here’s a quick list of 6 points to be sure and check before taking your first ride this spring. 1.Fuel: The reason not to use old fuel. 2.Battery: No matter whether it’s lead acid or lithium, give it a charge. 3.Tires: Are they going to make through the entire season? 4.Oil & Filter: Changing them both now is a great idea and ideal time. 5.Those Sometimes Forgotten Fluids: Check the brake fluid and coolant. (if you have coolant) 6.The Clean-Up: This is a great time to completely detail your bike. Wash, dry and wax your bike. Fuel Remember that old stale gasoline in a stored bike can cause several issues for you this spring. Gasoline deteriorates rapidly and the more combustible elements of gas will have already started to evaporate which can cause your bike to run rough or possibly not run at all. Gasoline can also begin to create varnish while it sits for long periods of time in your tank. This is truly a problem because your bike can develop clogs in the fuel lines, filters and your jets or injectors. Another problem with old gas is it can develop moisture in the tank which will cause a series of other problems. It is best to drain your old stale gas and refill with high octane fuel and check you tank while drained for gunk, sludge or rust. Now that we have fresh fuel we ready to move on with our spring checkup. Battery A common issue in the spring is a dead battery. The best way to avoid this is to use a battery tender (trickle charger) that will automatically turn itself on and off so your battery is not overcharged. But in the case you have not used one you should charge your battery to its proper level. If your battery does not take the charge obviously you will need to replace the battery for the season. Remember letting your battery drain will decrease the life of your battery each time that occurs and will require replacement sooner rather than later. Tires Tires are a very important part of your bike and should be checked on a regular basis. Always check for flat-spotting, Page 36

proper air pressure and any wear. This is the best time to replace those worn or damaged tires prior to the riding season. Oil & Filter It’s possible you changed your oil when you winterized your bike. If not it’s recommended that you change both your oil and filter to be ready to ride. Always change both the oil and filter at the same time. Check your owner’s manual for proper procedures. Forgotten Fluids Realizing that your brake fluid is often neglected or forgotten you should check your owner’s manual for the correct DOT type of fluid required in your bike and top it off. Never mix two types of DOT fluid because they are not compatible. Also remember brake fluid is highly hygroscopic and has a high tendency to absorb moisture right out of the air, so never leave your brake fluid uncovered because this could lead to the contamination of the fluid. If your bike requires coolant, this is a time to check it and top it off. Clean-Up Now that we have completed the first 5 steps we come to the point we all love. The Clean-Up. This is the perfect time to wash, dry and wax your bike. I would recommend the Cycle Care line of cleaning and polishing products. They are motorcycle specific products (meaning they are not car products repackaged for bikes) and they have a full range of cleaners, detailers and waxes. You can purchase their products at participating dealer in your area or online at www. cyclecare.com. Well, now that we have done our spring Check-Up we are ready to ride. Be safe all season long and we look forward to seeing you on the road with Full Throttle Magazine. www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

1968 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Rat Rod
One of the most photographed VW Ghias in the world! Purchased from Gas Monkey Garage Custom patina of desirable “Rat Rod” look Performance 1.4L horizontally opposed 4 cylinder engine 4-speed manual transmission 4 inch drop! MotoeXotica Classic Cars rarely says “one of a kind”, but there just cant be another 1968 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia like this one! This car named “Betty Rusty”, is the epitome of the Rat Rod car culture! Purchased by us at auction for an area charity sponsored by Richard Rawlings of Gas Monkey Garage fame. This event will be featured in an upcoming episode of Fast N Loud and it stills stands as low today as it did the day it graced the cover of the October 2015 issue of Ultra VW magazine! The VW community has a number of subcultures, all the way from purists to visionaries. The builder of this low scraping sculpture is artist Carlos “C-Low” Mijares is one of latter members. He got this Ghia from a guy who had rescued it from the bone yard. He like the car’s patina so much he decided to saved it, but as a creative soul he couldn’t resist added a few of his personal touches to the exterior and interior. He then slammed this sled with no bags or juice, just a static drop! When asked if he was finished with it, his response was” you’re never done”…but why is it so low?, “Because I have to live up to my nickname!” Re-bodied with a 1961 body onto the 1968 chassis with a 8″ narrowed front beam with adjusters and 21/2′ drop spindles. Re-finished in a multi colored clear coated rat rod patina, it shows extremely as designed with all the imperfections visible upon 50 ft inspection. Metalflake gold with neon green spider webs adorn the roof. Front and rear bumpers fit properly with chrome removed as well as the override bumper guards. What trim that is present and Page 42

finish is bright. Weather stripping is not there for both doors, however front and rear glass stripping is good condition with no signs of drying, tearing or shrinkage. Inside, the floors have been flatened to give an extra 2″ of clearance. The door panels actual match and compliment the seats. The dashboard has the same metalflake finish and is designed to mirror the exterior top of the car. The original steering wheel with a grey leather displays well with no real signs of wear. Personal interior touches of the previous owners include, a skateboard wheel gas pedal and a clear acrylic shift knob for the deeply religious. This Karman Ghia is equipped with a built by Roland (the Buggy Shop) single Solex carburetored 1.4L boxer 4 cylinder engine with110 cam, matted to a 4-speed manual transmission, rear 4″ drop spring plates with1 click up on the torsion, the body is tubbed in the rear to accommodate the 7″ wide wheels, bevel gear differential, front disc and rear drum brakes. 17 inch black centered BRM polished lip alloys equipped with 205/40 ZR17 directional tires. This Rat Rod Ghia will take you back to a simpler time…it just may take you a little more time to get there GET OUT AND LOW RIDE!!!
