Well September has turned out to be an awesome month for events and fund raisers. We just got back from the 10th Annual Lake of the Ozark Bikefest. It had a bit of a rainy start but the weekend turned out gorgeous. The estimate is 40,000 bikes and well over that in people attended the event. There was plenty to do and lots to take in this year. The strip was hoppin as usual with lots of bikers looking to eat, drink and shop. All the bars, restaurants and shops we visited were enjoying the Page 10-12 Historic Route 66 Bike Night® riders who came to town.

The Passport ride was certainly a success and lots of fun for those who took the ride. Tryna Mitchell from Dexter, Mo was the lucky winner this year of the 2015 Harley. We spent a good amount of time riding the back roads of the Ozark’s and enjoying the scenery. There are so many great rides at the lake. We also enjoyed the time we spent at the amazing Picklehead’s Roadhouse. There were huge crowds there all weekend. The concerts were amazing and we had a blast sponsoring the Burnout Pit this year. If you have never been to Picklehead’s you need to make that a must visit ride. It’s an awesome place and tons of fun. The American Legion folks put on a great Bike and Car show and at their facility and you’ll want to mark that down for next year. Positively was a great Rally and a great weekend and Full Throttle is proud to be the exclusive Motorcycle Magazine Sponsor of Bikefest. Look for next year to be bigger and better, so mark your calendars and make your reservations for September 14th through the 17th 2017. We also want to thank everyone who came out to the 8th Annual Grease Gears and Groove Bike and Car show this year on September 10. The event started a little slow in the morning because of the weather but became a party by late morning and we had a ball. This event is something we at Full Throttle feel is very important to raise money for our friends at Bikers Against Child Abuse. This is one of the greatest organizations anywhere and we fully support them. Thanks again to all those who helps us raise money for B.A.C.A. There are still many great events through the rest of this year so pick up the current Full Throttle Magazine to stay informed. As always my friends, Ride Safe and see you the road with Full Throttle Magazine. Bob

He asked me if I had peaked through the blindfold, There’s a guy on the dance floor giving it large: break dancing, moon walking, back flips, the works. The wife and I assured him I had not. At this point, he removed turns to her husband and says, “See that guy? Happy Birthday To Me

During lunch at work, I ate 3 plates of beans (which I know I shouldn’t). When I got home, my husband seemed excited to see me and exclaimed delightedly, “Darling I have a surprise for dinner tonight.” He then blindfolded me and led me to my chair at the dinner table. I took a seat and just as he was about to remove my blindfold, the telephone rang. He made me promise not to touch the blindfold until he returned and went to answer the call. The beans I had consumed were still affecting me and the pressure was becoming unbearable, so while my husband was out of the room I seized the opportunity, shifted my weight to one leg and let one go. It was not only loud, but it smelled like a fertilizer truck running over a skunk in front of a garbage dump! I took my napkin from my lap and fanned the air around me vigorously. Then, shifting to the other leg, I ripped off three more. The stink was

At Maria’s funeral, the priest looked skyward and said, “At last, they’re finally together.” Her sister sitting in the front row said, “Excuse me, Father, but do you mean she and her first husband, or she and her second husband?” The priest replied, “I mean her legs.”

Black Quartz

Writtem By Seth

Hey everyone, Seth here from Doc’s Harley-Davidson bringing you one of our spectacular custom builds. This 2016 Road-Glide custom in Black Quartz belongs to one of our customers, Keith. He came in to the shop a few weeks ago and told me that he wanted a bike that has it all, looks, sound, and enough performance to make the black-top tremble with fear! We started with upgrading the engine from its original 103 cubic inch configuration to a phenomenal 110 cubic inches. With all good engine upgrades you have to make the bike breathe in and out efficiently to make all of those inches worth while. Delivering the heavy amount of air that this tire-shredding monster requires is Harley-Davidson’s own Elite Heavy Breather in chrome, which makes accelerating a blast hearing the air sucking into the engine through that 58mm throttle body. The first thing you notice when this bike pulls up beside you or is passing you tearing down the interstate is the growl of the beautifully designed D&D Stubby Cat in chrome. This pipe truly has a sound all its own also delivering a smile every time you roll on to the throttle. Moving on from the performance side of this build, helping this bike grab the road are Harley Davidson Agitator wheels front & rear along with contrasting polished and black front brake rotors. To help set off the looks of this bike our Master Technician Mike Bellamy also installed the chrome front end, just touching on most every little detail. To ensure a more comfortable ride for Keith on those long road trips we’ve also installed the Streamliner grips and completed the engine trim collection also adding a set of highway pegs for those times when you just need to stretch out and set cruise control. Last but most definitely not least on this beautiful show piece we’ve upgraded the infotainment system with the Boom Stage II amplifier and speakers giving extra clarity to all of your favorite songs making sure you hear each note. So if you’ve got an idea of what your dream bike is but just don’t know where to get started, come see me at Doc’s Harley-Davidson (open seven-days a week) and let’s make your dreams a reality.

Milwaukee

How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to

give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles HarleyDavidson. Hope you enjoy this article and looking forward to many more! The 2017’s have started rolling in and out of the shop and hitting the streets near you. Bike nights are done for the year and WOW! What a great turn out it was all summer long. This month I want to feature what Harley-Davidson has to offer on the 2017 CVO (custom vehicle operation) Touring bikes. Harley-Davidson really stepped up the game with the ALL NEW Black Granite twin cooled Milwaukee Eight 114” motor equipped in the CVO Street Glide and Limited. This motor is putting out a whooping 124ft lbs torque and you can feel it through every gear. That is a huge gain from the previous 110” motors last year with 115ft lbs torque. Now if that isn’t enough power for you Screamin’ Eagle also has a bolt on 117” kit that will have yourself holding onto the grips even tighter. With all this power you are probably wondering about fuel mileage and that also has been improved with the electronic sequential port fuel injection. On the highway you will still be getting around 43 mpg and that will keep the smiles going and the gas stops limited. The list goes on and on with all the features these bike’s have. This year for the first time in the 6.5” infotainment touch screen display you have a tire-pressure monitoring system with alert light if your tire pressure is low. So you will always know with the touch of the screen that you are ready for the ride ahead of you. Both of the bikes are also equipped with Harley-Davidson’s Airflow Collection for the foot controls and grips with the limited grips being heated. For comfort in the saddle the limited has a heated seat with custom stitching and matching rider and passenger backrest where the street glide has the low profile two piece custom stitch seat that is also very comfortable but still gives it the low stance we all love. The limited is rolling on a set of Harley-Davidson slicer wheels and the street glide has the aggressor custom wheels. While cruising down the road you will be rocking out to some sweet tunes and hearing every note on the street glide with the Boom! Audio stage 2 speakers in the fairing and also the saddlebag lids. Powering these massive speakers are Page 28

not one but two 300 watt amps. The limited has Boom! Audio stage one speakers in the fairing and tour pak that are powered by one 300 watt amp. The rear of these bikes really separate the limited from the street glide. The limited has the low profile sporty tour pak and luggage rack for the longest of trips you have ahead of you and enough room to fit two full face helmets. The street glide has stretched saddlebags and a custom rear fender with run/turn/brake lights molded into the fascia to give it that sleek look front to back. Both bikes come with four different paint options so everyone’s taste is met. The paint this year really flows nice with both bikes from front to back and still gives you the POP that the CVO’s are known for. If you are wanting a stealth looking street glide or a limited touring the country with every bell and whistle from the factory these bikes can make ever rider smile from ear to ear with thousands of miles ahead. The all new Milwaukee Eight CVO’s have so many features and technology into them that you will have to just see for yourself, so come on in and see them up close. We are looking forward to what the 2017 model year brings to us and to you. Thanks again for taking the time to read this and please come into St. Charles Harley-Davidson and ask for me, Zach White or give me a call @ 636-946-6487 and also by email, zach@stcharlesharleydavidson.com to set up a consultation with me! I’m here to make all your HarleyDavidson dreams come true.

Winds of

elcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! Sturgis has come and gone, everyone’s kids are back to school and my wife is already sipping on the pumpkin spiced beer. That’s right, Halloween will be here before you know it, next the turkey and then the inappropriately placed Christmas trees and decorations for sale way before they should even be seen. Fall and winter are lurking so log the miles while we still can without fighting the changing seasons. With the changing of the seasons comes the winds of change. It’s no secret that 2016 was a rough year filled with recalls and law suits for the Motor Company. But if any of y’all caught the Discovery Channel Special “Harley and the Davidson’s” you would have seen that Harley over the long run has dealt with adversities and hardships in the past and is weathered to withstand what lies ahead. What better time to stir things up? What better time to release a beast to the wild that is America’s backroads? A creature that has been in devolvement and lying in wait for over two years! That monster has a name and it’s the new 2017 Harley-Davidson “Milwaukee Eight” 107 inch motor!! This new beast and the new applications are only available on the 2017 touring line up….for now. Harley-Davidson released this new set up at the 2016 HarleyDavidson Annual Dealer Meeting in Boston this past August with much excitement! There were many Oooo’s, Ahhhhhh’s and applause upon the release of the new Milwaukee Eight as they rose from the stage floors on their massive hydraulic pedestals like rock stars! It was an amazing sight to see! Then there were others, like myself, who were already expecting it as pictures of the new motor and parts had somehow leaked on to the wonderful world wide web where they were shared, tagged, posted and just plain smeared all over interwebs. Even though it was expected it was still exciting! As myself and a room full of thousands of colleagues sat and stared at the new motor, it dawned on me that in the scope of things my twelve years in the Industry was really a blink of an eye. Most of the people sitting in that room hadn’t seen a motor change during their tenure with the motor company; some had seen multiple motors come and go. It was an emotional moment, change is met sometimes with resistance and apprehension. I, myself, had my own reservations, knowing my clients and I can be set in our ways. Well, I am here to tell you there should be no apprehension with this motor or the new changes that came along with the new Milwaukee Eight set up. The new motor came with some pleasant surprises! We now have a completely new motor case from the bottom up! Let’s start down low and work our way up the list of amazing upgrades! At the base of the power plant is an oil pan that holds an extra half quart of oil to help keep temps down along with the assistance of the “Optimized Precision Cooling Passages” that are either oil cooled or water cooled lines that run around the exhaust valves. The engineers at the factory also thought to move the new and larger catalytic converted back

a bit to help with heat dissipation. As we inspect the cam box we notice immediately that things have changed, we now pay respects to the past by reintroducing a single cam that now drives eight valves! Now I know what you are thinking, “Eight valves!? What sort of witch craft is this?” Well this is nothing new to Harley, in fact this application helped them reach the top of the podium in 1916 and well into the 30’s when it was applied to the Harley flat track race bikes as well as being offered to the public to meet AMA guide lines. The flywheel itself saw the addition of a three and half pound counter balancer that when coupled with the rubber mounted frame produces virtually no shake at all in the frame. Essentially it’s a rubber mounted balanced motor. The charging system was upgraded to produce almost a full charge at a lower idle to help retain that “potato, potato” sound but also build a 50% better charge than last year’s models. And while we are on the subject of spark, we also saw the application of dual fire heads! Meaning four spark plugs instead of two, again something that is foreign to most but I can vouch that my 98’ Sporty sport loves the set up that came stock straight from the factory. The new dual injectors help fire this dragon by delivering more fuel to the redesigned air cleaner that forces more air into the enlarged fifty-five millimeter throttle body. With a little help from the new “Dual Knock” sensors that now provide accurate “knock” detection which can retard the spark timing only when an issue arises to minimize power loss and reduce exhaust gas temps under hotter riding conditions. Now that we have put all the power to the road let’s talk about the ride itself. The new limited slip clutch is engaged buy an all new hydraulic clutch master cylinder designed by the masters at Brembo! If you have ridden a bagger before you can agree that sometimes the HD suspension has a little left for wanting so Harley bucked up and redesigned the front and rear shocks to supply a much better ride. First off the rears feature an emulsion style shock that is hand adjustable for pre load which features an increased load range by 40lbs. Harley really went above and beyond delivering an amazing ride to the Milwaukee eights front end, with a completely new set up it! This front end delivers what the customers have been asking for, the end of “front end nose dive” during braking or even hard shifting. The new front end is essentially an “inverted front end” inside a standard “telescopic front end”. This basically gives you a sport bike like ride and technology wrapped up in our beautiful front ends without changing the aesthetics of the classic look. With everything Harley-Davidson has worked so hard to achieve with this new completed product I have to say I’m very impressed not only with the Milwaukee Eight applications but also the accessories and performance products offered from the new and improved Screaming Eagle department. You can make some noise with the new and improved stage one muffler options or go all the way to 114” of pavement shredding power!! If you are in the market for an upgrade all you have to do is put you r butt in the saddle of one of these amazing machines and twist the wick and let her fly! Come on by the shop and check these new machines out for yourself! Thanks for stopping by and y’all enjoy the ride! www.FullThrottle-Magazine.com

Danial James....N Step inside the artist booth of Danial James, and it is immediately clear that an experienced artist with depth and natural talent is here. Even though Danial is exhibiting his fine art paintings for the first time in Deadwood South Dakota, his masterly artistic skills have been on display for many years as collaborations with several well known fine artists. For over twenty-five years, Danial has been a creative force behind David Uhl Fine Arts sharing a partnership with David in Uhl Studios until last October. During their earlier years together, Danial and David worked on artistic commercial campaigns for FedEx, Brookstone, and Coca Cola, to name a few. Danial became a master at airbrush painting in the early nineties and then excelled in digital graphics in the mid nineties. With rich recognition in illustration, it wouldn’t be long until Harley Davidson reached out to Uhl Studios for apparel designs. As years passed and David’s interest grew more towards the fine art, Danial continued to pursue the digital arts, maintaining the commercial illustration side of Uhl Studios creating more than 500 T-shirt designs for Harley Davidson. In 2008, after David and Danial worked independently under the same studio name, they decided to partner up again under one roof and invest in a beautiful art studio in Golden, Colorado where the main focus would be David’s fine art and apparel line. Danial didn’t mind not being in the limelight and giving all the recognition to David. The success in the art was what mattered to him. Danial collaborated with David on the concept of the painting and then created the composition digitally as reference for David to paint. The teamwork was very successful. But all good things must come to an end. In 2014, David asked Danial for a buyout of Uhl Studios so he could continue building his brand of David Uhl Fine Art. Danial would take this opportunity to pursue what he wanted more than anything in his life, a chance to express his own creative vision and show the world he is more than a digital illustrator. Danial acquired a lot of success before he partnered up with David. He knew he was going to be an artist by the time he was in third grade. Growing up in Cedar Rapids Iowa, he excelled in the arts in elementary and high school winning many school and community art competitions. His high school art teacher recognized Danial’s natural talent early and helped him receive a full ride scholarship to Rocky Mountain School of the Arts in Denver, Colorado. Dan worked odd jobs for only a short time out of college. He quickly became the lead designer for David Parker, a commercial artist who was pursuing fine art. Danial took over the commercial graphic work for clients such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Budweiser, and the City of Denver. David Uhl and Danial met by chance at a bar and started their long journey together. While fulfilling his obligations with Uhl Studios, Danial continued to create commercial graphic illustrations. He illustrated children’s books and technical products for Bosch, and NAPA, IBM, Samsonite and GM. Danial’s smart graphic design is what led him to a friendship with Scott Jacobs. Scott hired Danial frequently to create logos for his companies. Most recently Scott hired Dan to design the logo for his new art gallery in Deadwood, South Dakota along with T-shirt and product designs. It was this recent collaboration that Scott really got to know Dan’s ambition and invited him to be the only other artist represented in Scott’s new gallery that is not family. Danial is painting what he knows best, classic cars, motorcycles and women. But his inspiration comes from the historical viewpoint of his subjects. His first series is the bootleg series where he tells the story of the 1940 Ford Deluxe coop. This coop was the first bootleg car known for out racing any car of its time. It is from these backroad races that NASCAR was derived. Danial’s first painting is “Still Running”, a quiet setting of

Page 40

New Beginnings a coop loaded with moonshine in the woods. The second painting, “The Chase” is the coop with a cop on his tail flying thru the woods. Danial has his third painting in the works. Cannonball 100 is the latest commissioned oil painting of Danial to commemorate this year’s century race of the prestigious Motorcycle Cannonball Race. The Cannonball race has become an American Institution with riders racing coast to coast on vintage motorcycles. However, this year’s century race, riders are required to race motorcycles that are 100 years old or older and only 100 riders will be chosen. Danial’s inspiration for the official 2016 artwork came from the man who started this tradition, Erwin George “Cannonball” Baker. In the early 1900’s Baker was well known for his racing skills particularly his cross-country motorcycle speed runs. His 1933 cross-country run from New York City to Los Angeles was his most famous and inspired the first “Cannonball Run”. Danial was taken by the history of Baker and wanted to replicate his image in a period advertising poster. Using muted colors, vintage style fonts and light washes, Danial was able to capture a bit of Baker’s past in his modern painting. Danial’s first Sturgis release was “Dakota Glory” celebrating the 76th anniversary of Sturgis Motorcycle rally. He chose to paint a simple composition representing a very popular rally watering hole, a 1940 Harley Davidson, an oversized American flag and an all American woman. American patronage at its best. Sheer elegance was an earlier painting with a 1932 ford and a show girl. Danial made a juxtaposition of a 32 ford with a Victorian dressed woman because of the sexiness of their classic curves. He was thrilled when Kid Rock bought it on the spot. He mentioned that everything about the painting reminded him of his girlfriend. Danial is looking forward to creating his own dreams as a fine art painter. Experimenting with oils and realism seems to be the fan favorites, but he is also a master at pinups with airbrush and abstract. Where his final style lands is anyone’s guess. He is already getting attention from collectors in the motorcycle and classic car arenas. Danial is finally moving in the direction of his God given talent and he is excited to continue his exploration of his own creativity. The best thing about being a woman is the prerogative to have a little fun. MEET THE ROCK. A 2014 Street Glide Special Harley-Davidson motorcycle coated in Moroccan Gold. Our history began when I walked into Mid America Harley-Davidson to buy a new sugar skull helmet. As I made my way to the showroom floor, there was something about the way sunlight reflected off of his pearl white paint and shimmery gold tones. Without hesitation, I knew I had to take him for a test ride. Ever since then, The Rock has been the perfect fit for me. With his sporty look, comfortable feel and extra luggage space, I can really ride like a girl. It seems like guys always name their bikes after girls, but I call my bike “The Rock” because he’s a solid constant in my life. He keeps me grounded.

GROWING UP, my mom and dad rode motorcycles. My

mom thought I was too young, but I kept telling her I wanted to be able to ride a motorcycle just like my brother. My persistence to ride paid off when my dad surprised me with my own bike. When I was seven, I rode a motorcycle for the first time and it felt like I had been doing it forever. I kept going in circles because I didn’t know how to stop. But, I didn’t really want to.

WHEN I RIDE “MY HARLEY,

I’M FREE

DURING THAT TIME, girls riding mo-

torcycles wasn’t very popular. But, that didn’t matter to me. After 44 years and 17 bikes, I still ride for me because it makes me happy. When The Rock and I first take off on the road, I’m so tense and excited. Eventually, all of my cares blow away with the wind leaving me feeling good inside and out. When I ride my Harley, I’m free to feel the way I feel. And, Man! I feel like a Woman!

TO FEEL THE

WAY I FEEL.”

“BIG CHIEF Anyone who has recently kept up with the latest in the drag racing community knows that the Oklahoma native Justin “Big Chief” Shearer has succeeded in his pursuit to make it from the pavement on his TV show Street Outlaws, all the way to the staging lanes of the U.S. Nationals. On the weekend of August 26th – 28th, he was at Gateway International Speedway for Street Car Super Nationals. The goal was to get ready and earn his NHRA license to race in the 62nd annual Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis as part of NHRA J&A Service Pro Mod Drag Racing Series. He did just that with his 1968 Pro Mod Firebird – CROWMOD. The carbon fiber and titanium chassis was built by Terry Murphy and Blake Housely, of Terry Murphy Race Cars of Kansas City, Missouri. The body is also carbon fiber. The lightness and aerodynamics of this build is why Justin chose to run in the Pro Mod class. Big Chief rolled into the NHRA competing with a 53 year old factory iron-block. To be exact; a Butler Performance Racing 455ci Pontiac engine that has been bored over .30 to 482ci -with a Crower crank, GRP rods, Ross pistons, Edelbrock Performer RPM CNC ported cylinder heads, and 40-plus pounds of boost generated by the twin Precision 88mm turbochargers. The engine has a compression ratio at 12.3:1 and it runs on VP M5 methanol. The transmission is a Rossler-built TH400 and ProTorque EV1 torque converter, with a Mark Williams Modular 9-inch rear end.

- CROW MOD”

Written and Photos By Tami Aguilera

NHRA Pro Mod class cars travel the quartermile in typically less than six seconds at speeds exceeding 250 mph. On Friday September 2nd, his seven second throwaway pass was disqualified after he bypassed the fuel check. Saturday 3rd, the CROWMOD Firebird opened with a 6.42 E.T. at 223 mph; then improved to a 6.364 E.T. at 226.32 mph. Out of 33 drivers competing in his class in the U.S. Nationals, and a record-quick bump of 5.89, this ranked him outside of the 16-car field at #30. Sunday the 4th with a 6.361 E.T. at 226.47 mph, Justin unfortunately didn’t qualify in the first round to even make it eliminations. As likely predicted, the older engine and combination wasn’t quite in comparison to the power of some of the top competitors in his class. But I can guarantee you; he had a greater mass of fans at his trailer supporting his debut endeavor than any other racer at the event. Kudos to you Justin for going after your dream!
