In an advance edition of its Wednesday paper, Le Figaro cited unnamed sources saying that the Shanghai conglomerate had submitted the strongest of nine bids. Read Fonterra looks to Asia & India New Zealand's biggest company, Fonterra, expects growth in dairy sales to China and India as more people move into the middle classes and want animal protein and healthier foods. "They're the two big economies, and we see growth all across Southeast Asia as well," chief executive Andrew Ferrier said. He was in Palmerston North at Fonterra's Research Centre. Mr Ferrier said there had been a significant growth in percapita consumption across Southeast Asia. "India has the world's biggest dairy production. Most of it comes from buffaloes. They have been able to keep up with the domestic growth so far, but they won't be able to keep it up." Fonterra has already sold milk powder to India several times, and expects to sell more. "India will probably end up needing more access to the world market, so that is another area of opportunity for New Zealand product." It will also build a factory to produce the juice (it will also build housing units in the capital Lusaka), which will sell both locally and via export back into the Middle East, where we expect juice consumption to continue growing particularly strongly in both Gulf and frontier economies........ Regulations, Labelling, Health Claims & Food Safety Independent Review of Food Labelling Law and Policy in Australia published The crux of the Review was to address the tensions between the competing interests that drive food labelling policy and to seek to resolve them. The 61 recommendations contained in the Report are designed to address the current ad hoc approach to food labelling and provide a clear path forward. The cornerstone of the recommendations in the Report is a Food Labelling Issues Hierarchy in descending order of food safety, preventative health, new technologies and consumer values issues. Within this framework, the Panel has made a wide range of specific recommendations to improve food labelling law and policy. General Mills prevails in use of claim 'Now Even Better' Campbell Soup had challenged claims about Progresso Light soup. A national advertising self-regulatory group said Wednesday that Golden Valley-based General Mills Inc. can support the "Now Even Better" claim for reformulated varieties of its Progresso Light soup -- a claim challenged by archrival Campbell Soup Co. Campbell had argued that "Now Even Better" was an "unsubstantiated comparative superiority claim," and that consumers could infer that General Mills was comparing its new light soups to prior versions of the product, or to a competitive soup brand. Read Effects of a restricted diet and ADHD A study published in The Lancet opens in a new window has indicated that symptoms of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) could improve if certain foods are restricted. The randomised controlled trial with cross-over phase recruited 100 children aged 4-8 from The Netherlands and Belgium. All met diagnostic criteria for ADHD and were not currently receiving any drug, behavioural or diet treatment. The first phase of this trial randomly assigned 50 children to an individually tailored, 5 week restricted elimination diet consisting mainly of hypoallergenic foods such as rice, turkey, lamb, a range of vegetables (lettuce, carrots, cauliflower, cabbage and beet), pears and water. Fifty children were used as a control. Pelsser et al. reported that 78% of the 41 children who completed the first phase in the restricted diet group showed at least a 40% reduction in symptoms whilst the symptoms of those in the control group remained the same.............
