CARTAGENA INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL
P R E L U D E C O N C E RT We are filled with joy as we look forward to our fourth season of the Cartagena International Music Festival 2010. The Prelude Festival offers more opportunities for us to present a sample of what happens in Cartagena every year; on one hand there are acclaimed classical music concerts, and on the other is the training program where our invited artists dedicate their time to work with students from a country eagerly searching for peace. Since 2005, our commitment has been to create more opportunities for music and for the country’s cultural development. The Prelude Festival offers just that: an opportunity to present excellent artists and give them the ability to pass on their knowledge and experiences to our students. Your donor support contributes to the Festival’s success, as well as making the dreams come true for the students of Colombia. As President of the Salvi Foundation – Colombia, I know without a doubt that with the contributions

and efforts of all, we can create projects and present programs like the Cartagena Festival, bringing peace and culture to our country through music. Music fills our lives with joy, serving as another way for the soul to express its most intimate feelings. Bringing music to our students is our heritage, our duty and our purpose… Today we would like to encourage you to move forward one step and become a leader with us – the opportunities for many students are in your hands. We hope you will join us on the evening of September 8, when you will be able to enjoy an excellent program with four of the world’s best musicians. Best Wishes,
Julia Salvi President

AN EAGERLY AWAITED PRELUDE
The Prelude Concert of the IV Cartagena The Salvi Foundation – Colombia is preparing for the upcoming IV Cartagena International Music Festival. The long awaited Prelude Concert of the Cartagena Festival presents four renowned artists featuring an excellent program, giving a taste of the fourth season of the Festival coming up January 9-16, 2010 in “La Heroica.” The Salvi Foundation – Colombia’s Director, Sandra Meluk, considers the Prelude Concert of great importance. “Above all, it is a fundraising event to support the next Festival. We know that the Cartagena Festival is something that interests everybody in the country,” Meluk stated. “To keep it going over time is everybody’s responsibility. The Festival’s staff consists of a group of people contacting artists, looking for sponsorships, encouraging people to attend and communicating what we are doing every year in educational projects – one of the Cartagena Festival’s main themes.” The Prelude Concert of the Cartagena Festival will take place on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at 6:30 p.m., in the Biblioteca Luis Ángel Arango’s Concert Hall. A NEW WEBSITE FOR THE FESTIVAL Over the past few months, the Salvi Foundation – Colombia has been working on the development of a new website, enabling better contact with its audience and friends. The Foundation looks forward to the launch, featuring a more modern image and allowing visitors to leave comments and suggestions on all activities and events. Daniel Maldonado, Image and Communications Director of the Salvi Foundation – Colombia, is the driving force behind this project. “One of the elements that we hope to make possible is to generate live networks for our audiences, as well as c re a t i n g a c o m mu n i t y a ro u n d t h e Festival.”
Another aspect is that the Foundation wants to better highlight the invited artists. In this regard Maldonado stated, “Currently technology is the best tool to introduce the new artists of the C a r t a g e n a Fe s t i v a l . Vi d e o, a u d i o a n d photography have become an essential part of the way in which we know the world. A written reference is not enough to describe the passion with which a musician plays an instrument. It is important to be able to see and listen to the musician.” The new Cartagena International Music Festival website will launch on August 1, 2009.
This is the new look and feel for the www.cartagenamusicfestival.com
