Learning goals Making toys with discarded pieces of cloth, working with new materials, sewing, etc. Abilities developed Accuracy, creativity, hand-eye dexterity, preciseness, diligence, fine motor skills and fine handling.
Step-by-step instructions 1. Cut off the foot part of the sock just few inches before the heel. The foot part is going to be a hat later on.
2. Take a piece of thread and wrap the end of the bigger part of the sock (not the foot one) very tight with it.

3. Turn this part inside out.
4. Pour the rice into the sock. The more rice you add, the bumpier your snowman will be; but put no more than 1 kg.
5. Shape snowman’s body and head a bit and then tie it on top with a thread to close the body. Do it firm to avoid the rice from coming out. Cut the thread leftover.

6. Shape the head by tying a thread around the “neck a few times.
7. Now it is time to dress our snowman. Warm him up with a scrap fabric scarf.
8. Fold the foot part of the sock (that we have cut in the first step) 2 or 3 times to make a cozy hat.
9. Pup a little bit of super glue onto buttons and carefully stick it to his belly (you may optionally use double sided tape).

10. The last but not the least important thing is to make a face of our snowman. You need to sew black beads as eyes and an orange one as a nose. And here we go! The snowman is ready to be played with or to serve as a cute Christmas decoration.
Instead of beads you can use pins. On the one hand it simplifies the task, but on the other it decreases safety. Still, there is the simplest way to create face – just draw it with a marker or a pen. One more idea – to glue googly eyes and glue a nose (cut beforehand off thick orange tissue). Well, when it comes to dressing your snowman there is a full bunch of possibilities. You can make a hat and a scarf from the same tissue or the same color, you can even knit them. Instead of a scarf you can use a ribbon. You can sew a little pompom to the top of a snowman´s hat. You can as well decorate a hat with breads or other stuff. As a possibility, you can dress your snowman with other pieces of cloth: muffs made of pipe cleaner or jumper made of another piece of fabric. Tiny bells, ties, bow ties, little snowflakes and everything you consider appropriate will make cute embellishments to your snowman´s cloth.
