Nº 3 PALSWEBTV YOUTH EMPOWERMENT THROUGH COMMUNITY REPORTING AND PEERS LEARNING WELCOME TO OUR THIRD NEWSLETTER! PalsWebTV (Youth empowerment through Community Reporting and Peers Learning) is a project supported by Erasmus+ Capacity Building for Youth project. Pals web TV began in January 2016 and since then from Indonesia to Macedonia and from Nepal to Spain, we have been worked together to make the idea of creating a television channel with authentic stories, captured and shared by the youth from each of the partners 'countries, a reality. Pals Web TV Project ends in July, 2017 but that is a half-truth, now we are starting a crucial phase: this is the moment when Pals Web TV ceases to be a project to become part of the activities of the partners organizations. Pals TV therefore takes the first steps in Nepal, Indonesia, Macedonia and Spain autonomously, where once acquired the necessary skills and knowledge, all countries are in a good position to continue training young people, encouraging their social participation and promoting their integration into the labour market. In this third newsletter we: - Remind you how to download the Pals TV APP: PALSTV APP download it! - Remember the final showcase and the days in Kathmandu - Bring you some of the most remarkable videos from our website. INTERNATIONAL SHOWCASE The challenge of recording the experience of living in Kathmandu for 5 days‌ It was such a great experience to travel to Nepal. We all met the other participants from Spain (INTRAS), Macedonia (ACTAC), Indonesia (Dejavato) and Nepal (CCN). The participants from the foreign countries arrived on May 22nd to Aryal International Hotel, New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, Nepal. There were 5 people per country who came to Nepal for attending the International Seminar and the final showcase and to discuss and learn about video recording and video editing. For many, stepping off into Kathmandu is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, a riot of sights, sounds and smells. Whether you are travelling through the traffic-jammed alleyways of the old town, or marvelling at the medieval temples, with the timeless cultural and artistic heritage, or dodging in the backpacker district of Thamel, Kathmandu can be an intoxicating and amazing place!
We stayed in Kathmandu for a week. During this time, participants discussed and shared their video making skills to each other with the main purpose of being ready for the International Showcase on 26th of May, 2017, so all participants found themselves busy shooting and editing the videos for the International Showcase whilst knowing new people, new places, new languages, new cultures, religions, etc. We made the best of our visit in Kathmandu by organizing two activities at once: we travelled around Kathmandu and recorded what we saw. Soon Thamel become first option of our destination. It is one of the tourist districts in Kathmandu. In this place, we could buy anything about Nepal such as bag, shirt, hiking tools etc. There are many restaurants in Thamel that serve traditional and continental cuisine, although prices are significantly higher than in non-tourist areas. We could also bargain that we want to get the lower price. The smarter you bargain, the lower price you get. On the second day off, we went to Garden of Dreams. The buildings there were like European buildings with some beautiful trees. We also went to Kathmandu Valley in that day. From Kathmandu Valley, we could see beautiful view of Kathmandu from the top of the valley. On the first day, the host participant warmly welcomed us. In the beginning, the first event was introduction and presentation of the project. We introduced each other. We tried to memorize the name of all participants and introduced our country. We did ice breaking games, delivered by the Spanish delegation. All of us truly enjoyed the games. Then, we planned to record a video. The video that we made would be presented to
all of us. We worked in groups per country, so each group started preparing their participation in the PALS TV SHOW even before the meeting in Nepal. Each group decided what they want to show in the PALS TV SHOW and how (theatre, music, documentary films, short movies, story-telling, interviews whatever) but always recording it to be displayed during the show. The second day was the touristic visit of Kathmandu; CCN took care of the activities of that day. We went to visit Boudhanat and Swayambunath Temple, Durbar Square and Thamel area. In the evening we had dinner together in that city. We tried to learn everything from Nepal by asking Nepal people about the characteristic, the weather, the habit, etc. On the third day there was an intercultural show. Participant used their traditional customs and presented their drinks, foods and sweets from their countries along with dancing in all countries popular music (which surprisingly were pretty much the same for the four groups) so at the end of this exchange experience we sang together and realise that the world is not that big at it seem before arriving in Nepal. On the last day and at Aryal International Hotel all participants were ready for the International Showcase. After almost a week living together, they proudly introduced the video products they prepared through the project and the one edited in Kathmandu. It was good to watch the videos and comment about how different the same time can be lived by each group! In conclusion, Pals TV Project not only promoted the acquisition of new and lifelong skills and knowledge, but it also provided us with the chance to meet amazing people and gain new friends.
