WALKING ALONG WITH INDIGENOUS PEOPLES Hamuy Munakuy is a non-profit cultural organization, which aims to open the possibility of INTERACTING with the cultural diversity of Colombian indigenous peoples throughout pro-indigenous and indigenous PERFORMING ARTS. Through our theater plays, the foundation seeks to raise awareness on the new generations of indigenous people to avoid substantial loss of their traditions and identity. WE HOPE THAT OUR CULTURAL DIVERSITY WOULD BE FINALLY RESPECTED AND OUR CULTURAL INDIGENOUS HERITAGE COULD BE CLAIMED.

The name of the play is not a word but a symbol, the symbol of silence. The silence to which the Emberá Chamí indigenous people is forced. Everything happens within an native community where pregnant women are faced to accept their stillborn babies as a symbol of protest. They do not want to be born in a village that its constantly in war, where they are forgotten and rejected. It is a ritual established by the women who give their tired children to mother earth as a sacrifice for her. The line between fiction and reality is blurred to make room to the voice of each of the women, not as characters but as actresses.
!
This is the first Colombian theater play, which has on stage a group of indigenous women speaking about their war heartrending testimonies. Nevertheless, the audience can be also a witness of the Emberá Chamí’s cultural richness like their unique language, amazing traditional dances, and typical clothes.
!
The visual experience is always complemented by the music of five young boys and girls, who are part of the Inga- Kamëntsa indigenous community.

IIWO´UYAA
Iiwo'uyaa – without the river the memory is gone- is the result of two years of research in Wayúu territory. Although the work is based on this ancient people real context, the play occurs on a fictitious scenario . Iiwo’uyaa, is the story of an indigenous community that would disappear because of the so called progress. Three generations of indigenous women are seeking to survive in their own way the destruction of their only river and therefore, their traditions. Betrayed by one of their own, Apüüyaa, Mapusa and Asipala, not only have to fight against these new settlers, but against Mojuu, a Wayúu man.
Our goal with this theater play was to bring alive the Wayúu world on stage. This is why Aran Epieyu, a Wayúu film director share with the audience a fragment of his first animated d o c u m e n t a r y, w h i c h e x p l a i n s h o w h i s indigenous community was created. Moreover, the spectator can also listen to a jayechii (indigenous musical poem) recited by Alberto Uriana, the wise old-man from the community we worked with, and enjoy the Wayúu ancestral dance called the Yonna.
