What’s on in the Southwest Well what a summer, first we had the heatwave with temperatures hitting the 30’s and then in August it all got a bit wet, you’ve got to love the British summer! Director’s Notes Hello everybody, What happened to the summer? It looked so promising in June, only to U-turn and leave us wet, cold and desperate for the sun. The consolation for me is that it absolutely flew by and we now head into the autumn months expecting it to be a bit colder, but with the added bonus of the football season being back on us haha. The summer months (albeit awful in terms of weather) were enjoyable here at Funky HQ. We had some cracking breweries make their debut with some real interesting beers, we had our very own Cross Bay Brewing Co launch their ice cream series which were fantastic beers and a real opportunity to showcase where we are wanting to head with the brewery and we launched another fully exclusive Tiny Rebel beer in Summer Crush.......keep an eye out for our new Autumn exclusive from the guys. Summer also saw our Sales Director, Kieran head over to the States to visit some breweries around the East Coast. Kieran headed off with his cousin, Jonathan “The Hitman” Harrison (so called from being the world champion “Banger Racer”) and started their journey in The Bronx of New York City....visiting the Bronx Brewery and their setup and then heading to the Yankee Stadium to catch a game. From there they headed upstate to see their good friends Jamie and Larry at Millhouse Brewing Co in Poughkeepsie......there they sampled 15 different beers, helped brew a NEIPA and ended in a 24 hour dive bar meeting the greatest named bartender or all time Elvis Garfield Taylor Jr.....who of course had Brewdog “Elvis Juice” on draught. The 3rd day the guys were a little tender for their 5 hour drive up to Portland in Maine.....the lobster roll and New England Chowder along with visits to Bunker Brewing Co, Liquid Riot and of course Shipyard made it all worthwhile. Day 4 saw a trip to Harvard University in Boston along with a trip to Cheers bar, Samuel Adams and Turtle Swamp Brewing Companies......another great experience in what was arguably their favourite city on the trip. From Boston they headed down for a night in New Jersey where they visited Departed Soles brewing company and visited their family who were performing their stunt show at the State Fair at Meadowlands Stadium. Final couple of days of the trip were spent over in East Village if Manhattan where they nipped over to Long Island City and were looked after amazingly well by Mark from Big Alice Brewing Co......sampling their amazing range of beers and being escorted around LIC to visit IcoNYC brewery and Fifth Hammer before heading back over the water to Manhattan and playing video games all night in Barcade. The final day of the trip was a trip through Brooklyn, they were escorted by the cops to find a lost phone (don’t ask) and down to Coney Island to visit their brewery and see the world famous Luna Park. It didn’t disappoint and is somewhere you need to visit should you ever get chance. All in all it was the trip of a lifetime for the lads and you can see more pictures on the Instagram account @kieranmurphfunkybeers Going into autumn we would like to welcome numerous new breweries into the portfolio.....the likes of Northern Whisper, Hawkshead, York Brewery, Five Points, Reunion Ales and many more are all making their debut with Funky and bringing some fantastic stuff to the table. We have also secured some wonderful new keg brands so keep an eye on your emails for pre order opportunities for some of these really special beers becoming available. We also have some spaces left for the annual trip to Stuttgart Cannstatter Volksfest (the 2nd largest beer festival in the world) on behalf of our partners at Dinkelacker-Schwaben Brau.
