Diesel This looks pretty sick. Diesel has launched a new sneaker called the ZipRound. It’s a high-top style with a smooth glossy leather finish but it’s the zip detail that really catches your eye. The zip runs from one side of the foot, down underneath the sole and up around to the other side. The ZipRound comes in three colours including black, white and red and the sole reveals contrasting coloured studs. diesel.com
PUMA x ICNY What do you get when you cross footwear giant PUMA and Brooklyn-born alternative sportswear pioneers ICNY? Ice cream (obviously). The Ignite is one of PUMA’s most responsive running shoes ever released. ICNY was born from a need to add safety and reflective materials to sports accessories and activewear. The Ignite Ice Cream range is an intersection of the two brands, coming in two colourways inspired by ice cream flavours chocolate chip cookie dough and mint chocolate chip. The breathable mesh upper keeps the temperature down even during the hottest of summer days, meaning your shoes stay cool even if your ice cream melts. Available now at Above The Clouds and Subtype Store for $180

Elizabeth Formosa (pictured) is the founder of Fashion Equipped, a consulting agency that was formed to support emerging designers, fashion start-ups and established business owners. Support spans from business planning, product development, sourcing, branding, sales, marketing, public relations and finance. Fashion Equipped is prepped to help you accelerate your fashion business with their upcoming Fashion Business Masterclass. In addition to a one-on-one consultation with Elizabeth herself, join industry leaders at the Styling Suite at Westfield Doncaster as they get down to the business of fashion, focusing on brand building, sales and marketing. It’s all happening on October 10. Head to page 55 or jump online for more details.
label.m has been working hard to create a product specifically for brunettes. They’ve taken one of their bestsellers, the Texturising Volume Spray, and added brunette tones. Creative director, Sacha Mascolo-Taruck, understands that not all hues can be treated the same. She acknowledged the need to create a “new formulation, which blends invisibly into darker shades.” This product will abolish your bad hair days. Seriously. Bid farewell to dull and lifeless hair.

A Tale of Modern Love That time I tried Tinder for 24 minutes
L
et’s get this straight off the bat here, lest my husband thinks I’m cheating on him via a really great cover up like, “Oh, I’m writing an article – that’s why I downloaded Tinder...” Yep, I’m married. I haven’t dated in a billion years. But when it got to the point where even Calvin Klein Jeans was tapping the app for their latest campaign, my interest was officially piqued...
A very, very small pool.
B Y B I A N C A O' N E I L L
I just bought an apartment and need a whole lot of cabinetry made... THINGS ARE LOOKING UP! Oh no. Wait. His description is "just a normal dude." Ha! I’ve watched wayyyy too many Lifetime movies to fall for that. Serial killer for sure.
So, in the pursuit of understanding my girl squad’s conversations about modern dating, I decided to download Tinder for fun. The first thing to *pop up* was not my first date (boom tish), but an alert. “Tinder would like to access your Facebook photos, likes, relationship interests and profile.” Geez man, take a girl to coffee first. I tried to set it up with a profile pic and all that, but got waylaid by the in-app vibrations. Hello lover. [15 minutes later...] Onward! My first ‘match’ was a 24-year-old boy – yes, boy – who had chosen a picture of himself fearfully patting a deer. His description was nothing but a chicken drumstick emoji, a cigarette emoji, and five loudspeaker emojis. I mean loud music is great and all, but not five times as good as chicken. Denied. Next up was a 23-year-old whose description was "looking for a lady to go on late night Maccas runs with." Right now, I’m scared about how much Facebook knows about me. Either I lied about my age somewhere (entirely possible), or they’re spot on about my secret life as a junk food loving cougar. Denied.
18
Fourth times the charm... and I get Hamish. He’s 25 (ok, maybe with make-up I could pass for his much older sister, I can deal with that). His profile picture is him holding a VB in work boots sawing a plank of wood.
"His description was nothing but a chicken drumstick emoji, a cigarette emoji, and five loudspeaker emojis."
One final red stamp swishes across my last hope, and Hamish’s VB-loving face is emblazoned with NOPE in caps (by the way Tinder, that’s way harsh) – and it reveals a guy named Stuart whose profile pic is just a huge bong.
Third victim. I mean, potential date. A 29 year old (finally, someone within a decade) who appears remotely normal. Nothing to see here.
This last glimpse at the dating pool of Aussie men in Melbourne makes me think that a lot more time and investment than I’m willing to give is needed to climb the Tinder mountain. Kind of like dating IRL. Or shopping for vintage clothing.
That is, until I see his description: “Nothing motivates me more than seeing an inspirational quote on a girl’s Tinder profile”. OH GOD INTERNET, YOU DON’T KNOW ME AT ALL. Denied.
I delete the app considering all the frogs I kissed before I found my prince... and all the vintage dresses I bought that I thought made me look like Bianca Jagger, but in fact made me look like a reject from Burning Man.
Ok, Tinder, you have one more chance. Don’t fail me now – I need some remotely possible fantasy outcome that confirms that there is at least a small pool of normal men out there to pick from when my husband leaves me following this article.
Twenty-four minutes of Tinder and my advice is: Stick with it ladies. It takes a while to find your cabinet-making dream man. And then you can keep him forever... or until he finishes your cabinets, at least.

Shady Lady Spring is here (finally). It’s time to ditch the beanie, ditch the scarf and pull out your best warm-weather accessories. Your shades say a lot about you. Not only do they act as a fantastic barrier between your precious eyes and the sun’s harsh rays but they work as a statement of your personality and style. Getting the right pair of shades can sometimes be a bit of a task, so we’ve put together a comprehensive guide for you shady ladies, to make sure you are geared up for when the sun finally peeks out.

Highest Peak Why is the ‘Duk’ missing a ‘c’? I don’t know actually. I think I was writing it on this piece of paper like graffiti and I left out the ‘c’ because it looked nicer. We never really used it but that stuck as well. Worked out really well for Google searches. What’s your favourite hangover food? Some days it’s pho, the Vietnamese noodle soup, some days it’s just straight-up burgers and fried chicken, other days I have a real weird hangover where I just feel like kicking my mind back into gear with a little jog on the treadmill and a salad. Tell us about your upcoming debut album.
Peking Duk have had an insane year. Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles have been living out of a suitcase doing the festival rounds in Australia and the States. They’ve come a long way from Canberra to Sydney, living broke and fighting over Mi Goreng packets with their charttopping singles ‘High’, ‘Take Me Over’ and ‘Say My Name’. We caught Adam in the midst of it all.
BY ARIANNA L UCENT E
It’s been really exciting. I think a lot of people are going to be surprised with some of the music they hear. We’ve written straight-up rap beats, rock, psychedelic, pop and dance so there are a lot of different flavours. We plan to finish it by the end of this year but the release will be next year. Some of your festival shows attract the rowdiest crowds. Why do you think that is? The shows have been getting rowdier and rowdier. We played Lollapalooza in Chicago and there was the biggest mosh pit death circle thing. It looked like people were punching each other in the face but they were really happy and having a good time. We don’t embrace violence one bit though. Maybe my stage raging is channelling across a bit more. Sometimes I’ll head-bang until my neck feels like it’s about to snap. Apart from music, what else are you passionate about?
What’s your funniest tour story?
Why are you called Peking Duk?
On our last headline tour, we were playing at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne. One dude took all of his clothes off including his underwear. The crowd lifted him up and started crowd-surfing him. All you could see was his tiny dick floating around in the air. On the microphone we said, “Hey dude, stick around after the show and we’ll give you some clothes.” He stuck around, we gave him a bunch of clothes and a beer, he said, “Oh my God you guys are the best!” and then he ran away. It was pretty funny.
It has nothing to do with the dish but Chinese food is very delicious. It’s a reference to when we were younger. We used to drink a lot of beers (if we want to use that word) and sometimes when you have one too many beers, you begin to start peaking, which can lead to you looking like a duck especially when you do the duck face gurn. We used to use that word as a joke like, “Look at Reubo, he’s peaking duck.” The night where we had to come up with a name, I looked at Reuben and he looked like a duck ’cause he was peaking. Peking Duk. There it is. It just sort of stuck.
26
I’ve been talking to a childhood friend from Canberra, Cian Lyons, and he’s got these beautiful crazy-as-fuck clothing designs. We’ve been sitting down a lot lately over the last year brainstorming and we’re planning on launching some clothing in a year because there are so many clothing labels these days that make fuckboy stuff. Cian is trying to be as unique as he can. I’m also trying to get back into skateboarding.
Peking Duk are playing Stereosonic in December this year.

Hello gorgeous shoes. Can we please take you home? If you’re after beautifully crafted footwear, Dept. of Finery should be on your radar. The label was founded by Melissa Butera who saw a gap in the market. Things like strappy-heeled sandals, colour-blocked mules, shredded oxfords and summery slides are part of their romantic spring line-up. All shoes are made from premium Italian leather. Archaic Volumes explores the strange resonance between the distant past and impending future. Drawing inspiration from natural phenomena, ancient rituals, geological processes and '80s science fiction novels, designer Francesca Sanguinetti considers each piece in terms of its link to human existence. With minimalistic style, the label creates clean-cut earrings, hoops, rings, and bangles for both men and women that ooze contemporary class. They’re simple pieces but they make a statement. Just a scroll through their oh-so-aesthetically-pleasing Instagram account will present out-of-this-world creative concepts in raw silvers, crystal, and brass. It’s jewellery outside of time and space. instagram.com/archaicvolumes

THE DO-IT-YOURSELFIE GUIDE
AUDREY HEPBURN: POTRAITS OF AN ICON
MITFORD AT THE FASHION ZOO
Willem Popelier
David Downton
Donald Robertson
There’s an art to taking selfies. Don’t believe me? Compare Kylie Jenner’s Insta feed to your mum’s holiday photos. Mmmhmmm. It’s also an art that I’m unashamedly poor at, so when I crossed paths with The Do-It-Yourselfie Guide, I figured why not? At worst it would be a laugh. At best, my Instagram might blow up with people confusing me for Kim Kardashian. Or something like that. Author Willem Popelier studied the selfies of celebs like Beyonce and Michelle Obama to write this book and it’s filled with quality tips. Rules cover the best light for taking a selfie (lunchtime sun is a no no) and guidance on the universal good selfie angle. So brb. Selfie-ing.
Despite reaching her prime over six decades ago, the late Audrey Hepburn is still as relevant as ever. So relevant, in fact, that there’s a major Hepburn exhibition happening at London’s National Portrait Gallery as you read this. So naturally there’s a book to accompany. Audrey Hepburn: Portraits of an Icon is a largely informative and completely beautiful hardback book that chronicles Hepburn’s career in, you guessed it, portraits. It follows her early years as a chorus girls right through to her humanitarian work in later years, with a mix of fashion shoots, publicity snaps and family photos. This is one for the coffee table. Because really, who doesn’t like looking at Hepburn?
Oh my goodness. If there is a child in your life, go gift this to them stat. Mitford at the Fashion Zoo is the best. It’s a kids’ book set in the Vogue office during New York Fashion Week, where they all say phrases like ‘it’s BEYOND’ and everyone is an animal. There’s Shark Jacobs and Mikael Boars and a panda with a Wintour-like bob that wears ‘Super Silly Inside Glasses.’ YES. Mitford gets the job because she sniffs at an editorial and has ‘legs for days.’ She also coaches Mikael Boars through a crisis in which ‘he lay down on his runway and wanted to die.’ Quality reading.
ALBUM REVIEWS M3LL155X
EVERY OPEN EYE
FKA twigs
CHVRCHES
M3LL155X isn’t exactly an easy listen. The EP finds FKA twigs stripping back the sound that made last year’s LP1 so successful. It's down to a bare minimum and heading into darker, more abstract territory. The five tracks are all covered in brittle, skittering beats that seems to change pattern with every verse. A sense of menace creeps underneath each song through deep bass rumbles that clash with twigs’ familiar airy delivery. It can be a bit of a daunting ride, especially when coupled with the 18-minute movie which depicts twigs giving birth to a rainbowcoloured dance troupe. Although initially appearing impenetrable, over a few listens the melodies start to reveal themselves. There’s a lot of intricate detail to the production here and M3LL155X shows that twigs isn’t about to rest on her laurels anytime soon.

There was always one kid who would come back from school holidays with a sweet haircut or trendy new clothes to make you feel like they must’ve had the coolest summer break ever. That’s kind of like CHVRCHES with their new album. The Scottish trio returns with a slick new sound and a clearer pop focus. Every Open Eye is heavily inspired by ’80s synth pop acts but with a decidedly modern sheen. A lot of the album would sound right at home in a John Hughes film, stirring up images of neon-colour prom nights. Fans of their previous work may be disappointed by the slight shift towards the mainstream with this record. But get past the kinetic lead singles and there are some surprisingly dark and experimental sounds here. Every Open Eye is a definite growth for a band that was always just short of greatness before.
DO I MAKE YOU NERVOUS? Banoffee
A few months back I had no idea what a Banoffee was. I thought it was a little strange that our office seemed to be smitten with a type of English pie. Turns out I was actually missing out on one of Melbourne’s biggest new talents, whose latest EP set to further her reign. Do I Make You Nervous? finds Banoffee refining her sound since last year’s debut and is a super slick production all 'round. Wonky synths bubble around the five tracks, often dropping back to let old school RnB piano chords breathe. Her trademark vocals are chopped and multi-layered, which is always my favourite little production trick. In a genre predominantly filled with Tumblr kids that are too cool for school, Banoffee exudes a real enthusiasm for what she’s releasing and music that surprises with each listen. Pretty soon no one will be mistaking her for a pie.

Vans x Eley Kishmoto
Tuesday September 8 saw Chapel Street’s Platypus store transform into a hub for all things print and pattern, to celebrate Vans’ collaboration with English design house Eley Kishimoto. The ‘Living Art’ launch team appointed DJ’s Mimi and Jade Zoe to set the mood, while guests sipped on cider and beer, as they snuck a preview of the new collection. The collaboration sees Vans tap two of Eley Kishimoto’s favourite archived designs, as well as three original prints designed exclusively for Vans. platypusshoes.com.au
