KUALA LUMPUR FOUNDATION TO CRIMINALISE WAR PRESS RELEASE: MOAZZAM BEGG’S ARREST ON 25 FEBRUARY 2014 IN BIRMINGHAM, UNITED KINGDOM It has come to our attention that MrMoazzemBegg has recently been arrested by the authorities in Britain for alleged terrorist activities. Mr Moazzem Begg had appeared as a witness for the prosecution at the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal on 21 August 2012 where former U.S. President George W. Bush and his associates, namely Richard (Dick) Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Alberto Gonzales, David Addington, William Haynes II, Jay Bybee, and John ChoonYoo,had been charged for war crimes and crimes against humanity. His testimony and the testimony of other witnesses finally led to the conviction of the above-named accused and consequently been declared by the Tribunal as “war criminals”. In his testimony MrMoazzemBegg had testified that he had been detained and tortured at several places of detention, including Guantanamo Bay by the US authorities on 2 February 2002 and finally released on 25 January 2005. We have not been in contact with Mr Moazzem Begg since 2012 and have no knowledge of the circumstances leading to his recent arrest and detention and hope the case will be resolved in his favour in due time.
