Future Film Festival was born in 1999 in Bologna as the first and only Italian event dedicated to animation and new technologies applied to images, becoming through the years the most important event in this field. Alone in the national panorama, the Festival has grown year after year, and its last edition had more than 30,000 people during its 6 days of programming. The FFF has grown also for the high quality of its program, budget, number of features from all over the world, interest from media and press, number of official sponsors, patronage and support by important institutions as Italian Department for Culture, Emilia-Romagna Region, District of Bologna, City Council of Bologna, University of Bologna, Film Library of Bologna and Emilia-Romagna Film Commission. Since its birth, FFF has presented many national and international premieres of animated features and 3D movies with special effects (as Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain, Luc Besson’s Arthur and the Minimoys, David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Jay Russel’s Water Horse, Mike Figgis’s Hotel, Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away, Terry Gilliam’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow, Nick Park and Steve Box’s Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Karyn Kusama’s Aeon Flux) and interesting workshops featuring the most important filmakers, character designers, visual effect supervisors from Pixar Animation Studios, DreamWorks Animation, Weta Digital, Industrial Light + Magic, PDI, MadHouse, Toei and many others.

Future Film Festival also is Future Film Game, Future Web Festival, Future Film Kids. Future Film Game: a “fil rouge” that conducts the public through 6 days to discover new games. Future Web Festival: conferences and workshops about the new frontiers of entertainment on the web. Future Film Kids: a whole section dedicated to the children, with screenings and workshops exclusively selected for them.
Mission The Future Film Festival’s aim is to discover and promote animation and new technologies applied to Cinema. An important goal is showing the audience schools and artists from different cultures and nations. FFF organizes conferences, screenings and workshops dedicated to young public, increasing the creative and competitive development of new generations. FFF is managed by a no profit cultural association.
Location Since 1999, Future Film Festival takes place in Bologna, a beautiful city located in the heart of Italy (about two hours from Rome or Milan). Bologna is the crossway of important commercial trades and the site of great cultural events as Motor Show, Bologna Children Bookfair, Cosmoprof and Artefiera. Bologna is full of colleges and universities and it is a city always changing a real forge of many musicians, graphics and animators. The locations of FFF 2009: Cinema: Cinema Odeon, Cinema Lumiere – Film Library of Bologna and Europa Cinema in Bologna downtown and only 10 min. far from the central Station and 25 min. from the airport. Future Village: Palazzo Re Enzo in Piazza del Nettuno, the main square in the city, closer to the university quarter.
