MATHEMATICS SYLLABUS FOR STUDENTS TAKING THE IB EXAM ON MAY 2016. All students must have a TI-84 Plus calculator or similar in order to take this course. All students must complete a mathematical exploration as a written assignment before summer 2015. This is a first draft of their IB Mathematics Internal Assessment.

Mathematics Higher Level. Before Christmas. -

Arithmetic and geometric sequences and series. Counting principles (permutations and combinations). Binomial theorem. Exponent and logarithm algebra. Basic limits. Descriptive statistics (central tendency measures and dispersion measures, along with some graphs). Complex numbers (complex conjugates, Cartesian to polar form and vice-versa). Some trigonometry has been revised to prepare for the complex numbers.

After Christmas. -

Further complex numbers (complex roots of polynomials). Proof by induction. Remainder theorem, factor theorem, applied to polynomials. Probability. Binomial, Poisson and Normal distributions. Functions and equations, quadratics and polynomials. Study of rational functions, logarithmic functions, exponential functions, etc. Concept of the gradient or slope of a function and the derivative. Derivative of polynomial functions, logarithmic, exponential, etc. Tangent and normal of a line at a point. Growth, minimum and maximum, curvature. Differentiating with the chain rule. Trigonometry (up to simple trigonometric equations).

Probably studied in in autumn 2015, but if time permits will be studied before. -

Trigonometry (complete syllabus). Vectors. Integral calculus. Continuity and differentiability. Infinite series convergence (including Power series). Differential equations.

Mathematics Standard Level. Before Christmas. -

Arithmetic and geometric sequences and series. Binomial theorem. Exponent and logarithm algebra. Descriptive statistics (central tendency measures and dispersion measures). Box and Whiskers, Histograms and cumulative frequency graphs. Correlation and regression line.

After Christmas. -
