LG Previews a Day-in-the-Life with AI
BY JOHN SCIACCA
LG began its 2025 press conference by showing a video presenting a 24/7 day in the life with AI, which the company rebranded last year as “Affectionate Intelligence,” and redefined as “technology that genuinely cares for users.” The video demonstrated how AI integrated into LG’s smart appliances, audio/ video, entertainment, mobile devices, and automotive technology impacts and improves a family’s daily routine both in and out of the modern home.
LG Electronics’ CEO, William (Joowan) Cho, said that LG is a smart life solutions company and that the video offered a glimpse into the future. Cho said that LG is reshaping the concept of “space” not as a physical location but as environments such as home, mobility, commercial, and even virtual locations.
Brand Varner, VP of sales, Home Appliances, said that millions of LG devices create data in real time to provide tailored services. The company’s goal is to deliver a “zero labor home,” where appliances and technology will automatically adapt to our lifestyles, delivering the most convenient, hassle-free, and personalized living experience. Varner noted that realizing the smart home can’t be achieved by any one company alone, and that technology must work and collaborate to form an ecosystem. To this end, LG ac-
quired Anthrom, which expanded their line to 170 global IoT devices and formed a new partnership with Microsoft for AI innovation to shape the future of AI-powered spaces. Microsoft believes AI will fundamentally change the way we live and work and this partnership with LG will create new opportunities to reimagine customer engagement and experience to the next level.
Priscila Higa, senior sales account manager for LG Vehicle Solutions, offered that LG’s in-cabin AI solutions with true 5G connectivity will provide convenience, productivity, and safety, allowing people to live and work better in the comfort of their vehicles.
“Multimodal AI” will deliver real-time traffic route and smart navigation data, along with providing a daily health check of vital signs, following the driver’s gaze to see what they are looking at, and even using

John Deere Brings Real Purpose With Real Autonomy to CES 2025
BY WAYNE CAVADI
John Deere comes to CES 2025 ready to showcase the evolution of autonomy across different verticals. Just a few years removed from the debut of its first autonomous tractor in 2022, visitors to Booth 5016 in the West Hall will see how autonomy is taking four giant steps forward, according to Jahmy Hindman, SVP and CTO, Deere & Company.
In a press conference held yesterday, Hindman pointed out that the world population is expected to increase from 8 billion to 10 billion over the next 10 years. Farmers, builders, and even landscapers will have their hands full trying to meet the needs of a
vastly growing population. John Deere’s Second Generation Autonomy Kit will help meet those needs, but no longer just on the farm. Now, John Deere will help in the fields, orchards, quarries, and the grass.
Agriculture, construction, and commercial landscape all suffer from a common challenge: They have much work to be done with less and less labor availability. Hindman provided some staggering numbers: The average farmer is over 58 years of age, putting in 12-18 hours of work a day while 2.4 million farm jobs need to be filled. Conversely, 88 percent of contractors struggle to find skilled laborers, which means more work with fewer people. Landscapers? Eightysix percent need to fill open positions. John Deere and autonomy are part of that solution.
Machines are becoming more experienced, which
allows them to run more safely and efficiently. At CES 2025, John Deere is showcasing how it is scaling autonomy to different types of machines for new crops in new industries.
On the farm, the focus is now on full autonomy — which means no one in the machine and the ability to monitor, interact, and see performance data remotely — with the Second Generation Autonomy Kit. There are new, rigid baseline camera systems to correct positioning in every single frame; real-time collaboration; enhanced long-range depth perception; and the ability to drive machines 40 percent faster.
In the orchards, high-value crops like fruits, vegetables, and nuts need to be constantly attended to. California leads the way in high-value crops and is suffering a labor shortage because they are physically taxing and grueling jobs that require 10 hours per day at 2.5 mph through orchards to spray trees.
Autonomy changes how they do things from a cell phone app, strengthening operations without the complexity of finding skilled laborers. Two new orchard tractors will be unveiled at CES 2025. Both use the Second Generation Automation Kit to provide consistent hardware, full camera coverage, and enhanced user interfaces. One is fully electric, powered by five immersion-cooled batteries for efficiency and sustainability while reducing maintenance costs.
Remember that expected 2-billion-person population increase? At the quarry — where valuable minerals are uncovered for everyday needs like toothpaste — contractors need to build 96,000 homes daily to match that expected population growth. At CES 2025, attendees will meet the Articulated Dump Truck (ADT). It is the first time autonomy will enter the construction site. The ATD, nicknamed Dusty, is also powered by the Second Generation Autonomy Kit with new capabilities with real purpose. It can dynamically adjust its track as it moves across the quarry and work together with other machines.
In the grass, John Deere has been involved in commercial landscaping for 60 years. Now, a new autonomous commercial mower will be introduced in Las Vegas. The fully electric mower — which reduces emissions and noise pollution — has four pairs of stereo cameras for a 360-degree view.
The Second Generation Autonomy Kit can be added to existing tractors to bring autonomy to current machines, freeing up time and money. The future, for John Deere, is about bringing real autonomy to real machines across more industries to more people, which ultimately, benefits all.
Predictive Cardio Warnings With New Before Health App
BOOTH 62042, VENETIAN
Before Health Intelligence, Ltd. is unveiling a new mHealth app called Antshrike that uses AI to transform wearable device data into highly precise and specific predictive cardiovascular health warnings.
As an iOS app, Antshrike uses proprietary AI algorithms to identify early warning signs of critical cardiovascular events, such as heart attacks or strokes, with high predictive accuracy for individuals at risk.
Before Health’s Antshrike mHealth app notifies users of severe health risks, displaying a warning when elevated danger is detected.
The app processes biometric time-series data collected by commercially available Apple smart phones and smart watches, calculates individual risk of critical events in real time, and predicts when and how changes in a patient’s health states may occur. By notifying patients of imminent danger in advance, Antshrike enables timely intervention by healthcare providers, paving the way for personalized medical intervention and treatment and improved medical outcomes.
Antshrike uses two layers of AI, static and dynamic, to calculate an individual’s risk of critical events in real-time. The static layer processes data entered by an individual to determine an initial risk score, and the machine learning algorithm is trained on over 500,000 CDC datapoints of approximately 23,000 individuals. The dynamic layer collects and analyzes biometric time-series from smart watches in real-time, uses the proprietary AI algorithm to identify early warning signs of critical state transitions, and then delivers a personalized, time-sensitive risk score for an upcoming major ischemic cardiovascular event.
The freemium app is expected to be available in the U.S. in 2025.

Revolutionizing Massage Chairs:
Where Technology Meets Tradition
by Minoru (Michael) Kogure
DAIWA Massage Chair
When we first introduced massage chairs to the U.S. market, it took considerable time to help people understand their health benefits. At first, people viewed massage chairs as a luxury or an indulgent gadget. We had to start by demonstrating the advantages that massage chairs could bring, primarily through hands-on experiences. But today, massage chairs are widely adopted worldwide, and particularly in the U.S., they are increasingly found in many households. Interestingly, in Japan—the birthplace of the massage chair—each model must obtain medical certification. This stringent medical approval process acts as a bottleneck for the development and introduction of new products, often leading to long lead times from development to market

Consumer Audio Advances Spur Rethinking of Hearing Health
BY RASIKA DSOUZA (PRINCIPAL ANALYST) AND SARANRAJ MATHIVANAN (RESEARCH CONSULTANT)
FUTURESOURCE CONSULTING
Headphones have become an integral part of modern living, driven by the rapid adoption of True Wireless Stereo (TWS) devices. Their versatility supports multiple use cases, from work to leisure, making them a must-have accessory. For Gen Z in particular, headphones are now an extension of their smartphones, seamlessly integrated into daily routines. Yet, as the ubiquity of headphones grows, noise exposure is also on the rise, and it is impacting hearing health.
RISING NOISE EXPOSURE AND A HIDDEN DILEMMA
According to the UN, over one billion people globally suffer from some form of hearing loss. Unlike vision impairment, where symptoms are often more immediately noticeable, hearing loss can develop unnoticed, until it significantly impacts quality of life.
Currently, people with severe hearing loss naturally purchase professional-grade hearing aids, a global market estimat-
ed at 26.8m units annually. For those with mild to moderate hearing issues, options for hearing support remain limited. However, TWS devices are helping to bridge the gap.
Innovative features, such as adaptive ANC and conversation enhancement, the latter of which is now available on 15 percent of TWS devices, allows users to tailor their soundscapes in noisy environments, amplify voices during conversations, and enjoy an early introduction to personalized hearing technology.
OTC HEARING AIDS STRUGGLING TO GAIN TRACTION
In 2022, FDA approval for OTC hearing aids marked a significant milestone. This regulatory shift aimed to make hearing support more accessible and affordable. Yet it has struggled to stimulate an uplift in demand, with many consumers still unaware of the availability and benefits of OTC hearing aids.
In September 2024, Apple’s announcement that its AirPods Pro 2 will support hearing aid functionality may represent a turning point. With this trusted tech giant championing the space, at an affordable price point of $249, more consumers are likely to explore the option, creating opportunities for other TWS manufacturers to follow suit.
CHALLENGES AHEAD FOR TWS DEVICES
Despite the growing popularity, TWS devices are not without limitations. One major barrier is battery life. This means all-day wearability remains a goal rather than a reality, with the necessary battery advancements still three to five years away. Extended battery life is essential for pro-
longed wear and to enable seamless integration of advanced features, such as head tracking and integrated IR cameras, which could further enhance hearing personalization and spatial audio experiences.
Meanwhile, software innovation is set to play a critical role in optimizing hearing profiles. Customizable audio settings, tailored to an individual’s hearing needs, could transform TWS devices into powerful tools for hearing management.
Apple’s announcement that its AirPods Pro 2 will support hearing aid functionality may represent a turning point.
However, the journey doesn’t end there. Manufacturers must continue educating consumers on the importance of hearing health, and the role that TWS devices can play in proactive care. For the CE industry, this represents a unique opportunity to position TWS not just as entertainment devices, but as essential tools for wellness and accessibility.
A SOUND INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE
With companies like Apple leading the charge, and advancements in battery life, software and hardware on the horizon, TWS devices are perfectly positioned to revolutionise the personal audio experience.
This transformation will not only drive innovation, but will also promote inclusivity, offering a lifeline to millions with mild to moderate hearing loss who might otherwise go unsupported. There is a clear and present need to combine technological excellence with sustainability and affordability, ensuring that the future of personal audio serves everyone.
As we look ahead, the intersection of audio innovation and hearing health represents an exciting frontier, promising not only better sound experiences, but also a better quality of life. For industry leaders and consumers alike, it’s time to listen closely and act decisively.

Refreshed. Recreated. Reimagined.
In August 2024, we revealed a new logo for the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)® and CES, a symbol that embodies the connection between technology and humanity. For the first time in our history, CTA and CES now share one mark – unifying the brands and the power behind them.
About the Mark
The new mark pays homage to our roots – the iconic “CES fins” – while embracing the future. The intersecting elements symbolize our industry’s connections with society, creating a frame to envision a world where technology seamlessly integrates with our lives to make it a better place. The space between the intersecting elements symbolizes the profound, yet often invisible, relationship of technology and humanity — a bond that CTA and CES have championed for decades.
Why Now?
These changes are for the industry we serve and the countless innovators who push the boundaries of what is possible. It comes at a pivotal moment in our history – CTA’s 100th anniversary and a time of unprecedented momentum for CTA, CES, and you, the industry we support and represent. Just as the industry continually transforms so must our perspective, our approach and our vision for the future.
A New CES.tech Experience

Did You Know There are 3 Kinds of Quantum?
While it’s still early days for quantum technology, what once seemed like science fiction is now on the brink of transforming industries and everyday life. But did you know there are three distinct kinds of quantum technology? Let’s dive into this exciting field and understand what makes it so revolutionary.
Understanding the Basics
Quantum technology uses properties of quantum mechanics to enable new and improved networking,
QUICK FACTS
Stepping back at CES 2019, IBM unveiled its System One device, the first circuit-based commercial quantum computer.
The basic unit of quantum information is the qubit. Researchers are working with several different core types of qubits – all are under development and have different projected advantages for different kinds of problems.
• Trapped Ions
• Cold Atoms
• Superconducting Qubits
• Photonic Qubits
• Solid-State Qubits
• Topological Qubits
computing and sensing. These properties can be difficult to work with and may require production at very low temperatures in a process known as cryogenics, special shielding and error correction. But the projected benefits are significant, and many companies (including CES exhibitors) are working in this space.
The Three Types of Quantum
Now on to the three major emerging market sectors, each of which harness different quantum properties to address specific challenges and open new possibilities.
1. Quantum Computing
Quantum Computing stores information using qubits rather than the bits of current “classical” computing. Where a traditional computing “bit” is either one or zero, and never both, a qubit can hold multiple states simultaneously. The power of these structures allows quantum computers to do more with a few dozen qubits than the most powerful classical computers — for the right kinds of problems.
2. Quantum Communications
Quantum communications harness the principles of quantum mechanics to secure information in ways that classical systems cannot. One of the most promising applications is quantum key distribution (QKD), which allows for the secure distribution of encryption keys. Unlike traditional methods, QKD sends information using quantum states with properties like entanglement or superposition.
QUICK FACTS
One way to thinking about quantum computing is an accelerator that speeds up certain steps in classical computing or helps find an optimal solution to a complex problem.
Hybrids of quantum and high-performance computing, and of quantum and AI/ML, will be important in finance, chemistry, materials, logistics and more. Early commercial solutions are emerging from R&D and extremely powerful solutions are expected in the early 2030’s.
It’s physically impossible to eavesdrop on such data without disturbing these properties, so QKD ensures that any attempt to intercept the key will be detected, making the communication channel inherently secure from eavesdroppers covertly capture private keys. This method of securing information has the potential to revolutionize how we protect sensitive data, from financial transactions to national security. As quantum communication technology matures, we can expect it to become a crucial component of cybersecurity infrastructure.
3. Quantum Sensing
Quantum sensors are already making waves in the commercial sector. These devices exploit quantum phenomena to achieve levels of sensitivity and precision far beyond that of classical sensors. By measuring quantities with unprecedented accuracy, quantum sensors are transforming fields such as medical imaging, navigation, and environmental monitoring.
The quantum sensor market is not just a theoretical concept; it is already a significant commercial sector, with global revenue estimates reaching $1 billion USD in 2022 and increasing at a rapid pace. This growth reflects the practical value and increasing adoption of quantum sensing technologies in various industries. Quantum is Changing the Landscape of Data Security
Your IT department knows that the encryption used for internet and website security is at risk from quantum computing. When powerful quantum computers arrive in the early 2030’s, public-key encryption will no longer protect data. This impacts everything from the technology behind “https://” on corporate websites to government secrets. Worse, data collected by eavesdroppers today can be decrypted when those systems arrive. IT departments around the world are inventorying their use of encryption technologies and talking to vendors about upgrading to newer “postquantum computing” (PQC) technologies.
QUICK FACTS
Quantum technology could be in your home right now. Some smart TV display screens use “quantum dots”, semiconductors so small that they exhibit quantum effects. When energized, the dots absorb the energy and give it back off as red, green or blue light. With the stimulant energy controlled by sophisticated electronics, quantum dots are the pixels of these televisions.
What’s Next?
Quantum technology is more than just a buzzword; it’s a transformative force that promises to reshape industries and enhance our capabilities in ways we are just beginning to understand. The quantum future is not far off – CES 2025 will give you a glimpse into what the future holds.
Innovating Energy: How Technology is Shaping Our Power Systems
Around the globe, energy usage is experiencing a fundamental change, with technology at its core. But what does this mean for our everyday lives, and why is it happening now? Explore how recent developments are fueling progress toward a more sustainable, efficient, and resilient energy system capable of meeting society’s evolving needs.
Simply put, “energy transition” refers to a shift in energy sources — the materials used to power our world. While it might seem like a trendy term, the concept is anything but new. In fact, society has already undergone two major “energy transitions,” moving from firewood to coal to oil. And now, we’ve reached another pivotal point in the energy revolution.
At its core, this energy transition is about moving from a reliance on traditional, carbon-based sources to more efficient and lower carbon options, such as renewables (wind, solar, hydropower) and even nuclear energy. It’s also about modernizing our power grid, making it more efficient, reliable, resilient, and decentralized. In short, we’re not simply looking to swap energy sources, we’re reshaping how energy flows through our communities and our lives. And just like the energy transitions of the past, technology plays a critical role in driving and defining this next era of energy.
Why the Energy Transition Matters Now
The urgency of this transition stems from multiple factors — regulatory commitments, private sector initiatives, and our evolving consumption habits. Governments worldwide have agreed to ambitious energy goals, such as those outlined in the Paris Climate Accords, which set a target to reduce emissions by 43% by 2030. Countries are working toward meaningful changes in their energy systems to meet this timeline and those outlined in other agreements.
On the private sector front, many companies are committing to more sustainable energy practices for a variety of reasons, including cost savings, a sense of social and environmental responsibility, and to maintain a competitive edge. The evolving expectations of consumers are driving businesses to rethink their energy strategies — particularly consumers belonging to Gen Z, a group dubbed “the sustainability generation” and known for spotting inauthentic brand promises.
What makes this moment so important is that the world is not just shifting to cleaner energy sources, but is also laying the groundwork for a global infrastructure that can support increasing demands for sustainable solutions and a growing population. Already, there are more than three times as many people in the world as there were in the mid-20th century, and the population is expected to increase by nearly 2 billion in the next 30 years. This transition will address not only energy production, but also the technology and infrastructure needed to maintain a resilient, decentralized energy network.
Technology’s Role: Now and Into the Future
Technology is making the energy transition both possible and essential. It’s not just transforming how we produce and use energy, but also driving demand in ways that make this shift more urgent — while evolving our relationship with energy.
One example of how innovation is — literally — driving the need for the energy transition is electric vehicles
(EVs). Improvements in EV technology kickstarted EV adoption, and now, having more EVs on the road is intensifying demand for infrastructure upgrades. That demand is evidenced by government initiatives, like the U.S. Department of Transportation’s recent announcement of $521 million in grants to build out the national vehicle charging network. These types of investments support the growing adoption of electric mobility, reducing reliance on gasoline while empowering consumers to take a more active role in the energy ecosystem.
Data centers are another interesting factor in this energy transformation. Technologies like AI, cloud computing, 5G networks, and cryptocurrency have caused an uptick in energy demand at data centers, due to the amount of computing power they require. Estimates show that data center electricity consumption for the U.S. alone could reach nearly 260 terawatt-hours (TWh) by 2026, roughly equivalent to Japan’s total energy consumption. However, technology is already solving its own energy usage issues, with advances in AI and energy-efficient technologies helping to mitigate this impact. One excellent example is Brainchip’s Akida™ on-chip learning technology, which reduces reliance on cloud computing by enabling AI processing to occur locally, thereby lowering latency and energy consumption while enhancing security.
The data centers that support many of today’s promising technologies are also spurring innovation in energy-efficient temperature control. Cooling systems account for about 40% of data centers’ energy usage, and already, smart HVAC systems are making an impact. Supported by IoT solutions from companies like Eaton, Microchip Technology, and Intellias, these technologies optimize energy use, predict maintenance needs, and ensure that both enterprises and consumers are part of a more efficient, responsive energy grid.
Looking forward, the future of energy lies in decentralized systems powered by smart technologies. From small modular reactors (SMRs, a new type of nuclear plant) to battery storage
systems operating at residential, commercial, and grid scales, there are already a variety of innovations being developed and deployed that help make more localized energy usage possible.
Just as digital health solutions revolutionized health care, empowering individuals to take more control of their own well-being, decentralized energy systems will allow businesses and individuals to generate, store, and distribute their own energy. Eaton’s “everything as a grid” approach exemplifies this shift by integrating various energy sources and storage solutions into a cohesive, flexible system. This enhances grid stability, while also helping consumers manage their energy use more effectively, reducing reliance on centralized power plants. In the same vein, Haus.me’s self-sustaining, solar-powered homes show the potential for entirely off-grid living, offering energy efficiency that’s 20 times greater than the average U.S. household. These advancements highlight the transformative potential of smart home technologies and energy management systems. By enabling more efficient and sustainable living, they pave the way for a future where energy resilience and innovation are at the forefront.
As we stand on the brink of this new energy era, it’s clear that the transition is about more than just changing our power sources; it’s about leveraging technology to build a sustainable, efficient, and resilient energy system capable of meeting society’s evolving needs. From smart grids to decentralized energy solutions, the advancements we develop and embrace today will shape the evolution of our power infrastructure for generations to come.

With professionals in mind, the speakers come with convenient features like pole mounts (Vegas, Miami), wheels (Miami, New York), and handles (all models) for easy transport. Built-in sound effects buttons keep the energy high all night long.
