From The Editor's Desk Validity of Kalsarp Yoga When all planets exist on the one side of Rahu-Ketu axis in any horoscope, Kalsarpa Yoga is formed. Udit Kalsarp Yoga is formed when all the planets are near Rahu whereas their positioning on the other side forms Anudit Kalsarp Yoga. Some astrologers opine that since Kalsarp Yoga is not mentioned in any classical text so it should be termed as fictitious. But it is not so rather the balance of gravitational force of solar system gets disturbed with the concentration of all planets on one side thereby causing -

Frequent recurrence of High Tides (Spring Tides).

-

Earthquakes of high intensity.

-

Increase in mental tensions among people resulting into frequent quarrels.

-

Increase in birth of mentally retarded children.

When Moon is in 4th or 10th house it causes high tides in the sea whereas in 1st or 7th it causes low tides. If we take into account the astrological phenomena, we find that the intensity and frequency of tides rapidly increase when Sun and Moon are together i.e on Amavasya (New Moon). Similarly when all the planets are with Moon or in its vicinity the tides occur regularly. Similarly the earthquakes occur because of the shaking of layer of earth because of the gravitational pull of the other planets. Therefore when gravitational pull of all planets concentrate on one side it starts creating high pressure on the layer of the earth and the continental plates start sliding thereby causing earthquakes. When earth gets affected that strongly with the impact of this gravitational pull then how come man abstain from it? During Kalsarp Yoga too 8

the imbalance in the gravitational force comes into play affecting thereby mental, physical, material and social life of people. Because of these negative effects only, Kalsarp Yog a is considered a neg ative Yoga and therefore astrologers recommend different remedies too to decrease its malefic influence. But a person having Kalsarp Yoga in his chart is also equipped with some special ability as well. In order to find out the number of horoscopes in which Kalsarpa yoga exists, it will be essential to calculate the number of total horoscopes existing in the world in approximity. In each horoscope there are 12 Lagnas. Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Rahu can occupy any of the 12 houses independently. Mercury remains with Sun or it shall be one house behind or ahead of Sun. Venus remains with Sun or else one or two houses behind or ahead. Ketu always remains in 7th from Rahu. In this way Mercury can remain in three, Venus in five and Ketu in one house independently. Therefore total number of horoscopes can be = 12(Lagna) x 12(Sun) x 12(Moon) x 12(Mars) x 3(Mercury) x 12(Jupiter) x 5(Venus) x 12(Saturn) x 12(Rahu) x 1(Ketu) = 53,74,77,120 means 53 crores, 74 lakhs, 77 thousands,120 horoscopes only. If we assume world population to be 700 crores then on the average there shall be 14 people for each horoscope. In astrology Rashi is not the only basis rather Nakshatras are also considered and there are three Nakshatras in 12 Rashis so total 36 com binations. If we also count the Charanas(divisions) of Nakshatra too then there are 9 Charanas or Navamshas in a Rashi. According to this calculation the Lagna has 108 AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology ď Ź Apr.-Jun. 2013

a a Navamshas. Similarly Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Rahu can be there in 108 Navamshas independently. Mercury can be with Sun or 9 Navamshas behind or ahead, means it can be in 19 Navamshas independently. Similarly Venus can be with Sun or 17 Navamshas behind or ahead means can be in 35 Navamshas. Ketu can be opposite to Rahu in one Navamsha. Theref ore total horoscopes can be 108(Lagna) x 108(Sun) x 108(Moon) x 108(Mars) x 19(Mercury) x 108(Jupiter) x 35(Venus) x 108(Saturn) x 108(Rahu) x 1(Ketu) = 11.3969313873 x 1016 = 1139 crore crore horoscopes. If we assume world population to be around 700 crores then there shall be about 1½ crore horoscopes per person. As average age is around 70 years, so around 10 crores of children take birth every year. As per this calculation a horoscope can't get repeated for 100 crore years. If we go deeper into minute calculations and consider Shastyamsha and other calculations then we can say that two people on this earth can never have similar horoscopes. In the horoscope of twins also there remains some difference atleast on minute level certainly. The Kalsarp Yoga take Rashi as the basis of calculation, the following result are obtained There can be any Lagna out of 12 and Rahu can be in any of these 12 houses independently. For complete Kalsarp Yoga all the planets should be hemming between Rahu and Ketu only, means they can be in any 7 houses. If Rahu is conjunct with Sun then Mercury shall be one house behind or with Sun means can be in two houses only. If Mercury is one house ahead of Rahu then complete Kalsarp Yoga gets cancelled. If Sun is one house behind Rahu then Mercury can be with Sun or else one house ahead or behind Rahu. Similarly Sun can be in 5 houses and Mercury in three places means can be at 15 places independently. When Sun is conjunct with Rahu or Ketu then Mercury can be at two places only. Therefore in horoscopes containing Kalsarp Yoga planet Mercury can be in any of the 7 signs and 19 houses independently. Similarly when Sun is conjunct with Rahu then Venus can be in three houses independently. If Sun is one house behind Rahu then Venus can be in four places. If Sun is two, three or four

houses behind Rahu then Venus can be in 5 places independently. Therefore in horoscopes containing Kalsarp Yoga planet Venus can be in any of the 7 signs and 29 houses independently. Therefore the complete Kalsarp Yoga is formed in - 12(Lagna) x 12(Rahu) x 7(Sun) x 7(Moon) x 7(Mars) x 19/7(Mercury) x 7(Jupiter) x 29/ 7(Venus) x 7(Saturn) = 2,72,14,992 means 2 crore 72 lakhs, 14 thousand 992 horoscopes. Out of 53 crore the complete Kalsarp Yoga is formed in only 2 crore people's horoscopes means Kalsarp Dosha is there in one of the 19.75 horoscopes. The Anudit Kalsarp Dosha is available in exactly equal number of horoscopes. Therefore Udit or Anudit Kalsarp Yoga is there in one out of 9.87 horoscopes. The degree of planets is not considered in above calculations because usually formation of Kalsarp Yoga in horoscopes is checked on the basis of Rashi. If all the planets are on the one side of Rahu Ketu axis and the Moon on the other then it is known as Anshik (partial) Kalsarp Yoga. In partial Kalsarp Yoga the Moon can be in 5 signs only. Therefore horoscopes containing Udit Anshik Kalsarp Yoga are = 12(Lagna) x 12(Rahu) x 7(Sun) x 5(Moon) x 7(Mars) x 19/7(Mercury) x 7(Jupiter) x 29/7(Venus) x 7(Saturn) = 1,94,39,280 horoscopes. Means out of 27.65 horoscopes only one chart contains Anshik Udit and Anshik Anudit Kalsarp Yoga. Out of 27.65/2 = 13.82 horoscopes just one horoscope only contains Anshik Kalsarp Yoga. In totality Udit, Anudit, Complete and Anshik Kalsarp Yoga is in one out of

horoscopes. If we count Manglik charts then out of each set of 12 horoscopes 5 contain Mangal Dosha means out of 2.4 charts one chart is Manglik. It means that occurrence of Kalsarp Dosha is 50% lesser than Mangal Dosha.

Research

Prediction of Fatality through Dwadashamsha Dr. Manoj Kumar, Editor

From the time immemorial every human being has to undergo the adverse times. Only the Astrologers are capable of indicating the invariable times in one's life through various established principles and techniques given by our seers, modified and refined by great scholars from time to time. One such principle is 'predicting the fatality through the use of Dwadashamsha' chart of the native which was hidden in the limbo of oblivion for long. It is the result of long research and observation that this principle could be brought into light. It is now upto the learned scholars and students of Astrology to verify, modify, refine this principle and discover and invent such other valuable principles for the welfare of mankind. Every transient being has to pass through different phases during the course of life since the time, lord Brahma has created this universe. Everyone has to take the taste of good and bad times during the journey of life. We, the human beings are guided by the influence of planets, constellations, Dashas etc., if we believe in spirituality and occultism. These influences guide the course of every event in our life from cradle to grave. In the present material world, every individual aspires to lead a wealthy, happy and rich life. But it is not in our hands. It is all decided by the influence of the planetary dispositions which we get in our horoscope based on the time we appeared on this mortal world. After our birth we have to continuously encounter the cycles of happiness and grief. Astrologers have the divine knowledge to know and guide the people about the good periods and lean patches in life taking into account different and diversified principles of Astrology conceived and interpreted by seers and acharyas from time to time. If one is guided about the impending 12

dangers, it is proved of immense help as the person can prepare himself or herself for the worst and take considerable remedial measures and appropriate actions to minimise or avoid the ill effects of the events and lessen the fatality. Out of the numerous principles known and unknown, one very important, tried and tested principle is to predict the fatality through Dwadashamsha chart and the transit of Rahu. Principle 1 : Step 1 : Note the 8th lord of D-1 chart. Step 2 : See the position of 8th lord of D-1 in Dwadashamsha chart. Step 3 : See the transit of Rahu. Whenever Rahu influences the 8th lord of D-1 in D-12, that time will prove very problematic and fatal to the native. Principle 2 : If the 8th lord of D-1 is Saturn, then the rule will change a little bit. In that condition, see where Saturn is placed in D-12. Whenever Rahu transits in 3rd house or 10th house from Saturn, the AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology ď Ź Apr.-Jun. 2013

a same result can be predicted. It will also be the period of disas ter, catastrophe and fatality. The following given examples are the testimony of the credibility of this principle and fact behind it. But learned scholars of Astrology must take into account that Rahu influences the sensitive points mentioned in the principles every 7½ years. So, during the course of prediction, precaution should be taken. It cannot be death every time or catastrophic fatality. However, it is certain that the native will have to face adversities to a considerable extent. Illustrations : Example 1 : Indira Gandhi, 19.11.1917, 23:11, Allahabad, Death : 31.10.1984 In the chart of Indira Gandhi, Principle 2 is applicable as 8th lord in her chart is Saturn. Thus we find that the above mentioned principle is applicable in all the example horoscopes. But now the question arise, since Rahu will influence the sensitive point every 7½ years then will this fata lity man ifest ev erytime. The answer is no. It is certain that the native will face problems in that period of 1½ years, he/she may be seriously sick. It has been found that problems take place. But the gravity of problems depend on several other potent factors prevalent in the horoscope. So, the readers and the sincere followers of Astrology are advised not to follow this principle blindly and predict death or deathlike fatality. This topic requires lots of further research and it is the responsibili ty of ou r astrol oger brethren and the students of astrology to test and verify this principle with subtle variations. 

Mangal Dosha

Ajai Bhambi, Delhi

Astrology reading and making of bi rth char ts came into practice much later than the Vedic times. By that time chart making had become a general practice; not only had a lot of time elapsed but the culture, society and human values had changed. All over the world huma n soci eties were dependent on agriculture and manpower was used in all activities. The Oriental society had undergone a sea change and Man had become the focal point of the entire family. Women had taken a secondary role according to the need and prevalent situation. At that time it was r equired that women would be subversive to man because he was the controller of the family and society. The identity of women would be almost severed when she entered into wedlock. Not long ago we used to teach our daughters on their wedding day that her palquin will go to her groom’s house and from there she would depart only when she breathes her last. Today we seldom hear such sentiments from parents when t heir daughter gets married and couples of this gen eration wonder - was it so? 16

It is an irony of fate that all the shastras or texts were written by men which favour him to the maximum as compared to women. The bias of men can easily be seen in all these texts when one starts looking at them minutely. The same is true for ‘mangal dosha’ or ‘Mars evil’ in astrology. Mars is the most potent planet of the zodiac after the Sun and every astrologer worth his salt, will praise the quality of Mars if it is present in the lagna of his male client. He may say that this person is very strong, courageous, energetic, forceful, dynamic, fearless, can conquer his enemies easily, may become commander –in-chief etc. etc.. However if the same Mars is present in a girl’s chart the astrologer gets depressed himself and makes sure that his client remains depressed for the rest of his life. His total reversal will be seen as he uses words like arrogance, stubborn, aggressive, negative, intolerant, dominating, housebreaker and god-forbid her husband may die due to this harmful Mars. Alas one wonders what has happened to Mars all of a sudden. According to the prevalent understanding of mangal dosha, the placement of Mars can create havoc if placed in the following houses – 12th, 1st, 4th, 7th and 8th. According to South Indian system of astrology mangal dosha extends to two more houses 2nd and 5 th. Mangal dosha is calculated from lagna, Moon and Venus. Acording to this calculation more than 80% people are born ‘manglik’. In other words, if five people are present in a group then four of them are bound to be manglik. It is very difficult to find nonmanglik persons according to this calculation. Lagna represents the physical aspect of human being; Moon denotes the mental makeup of a person and Venus decides the sexual aspect of a human being. The 12th house is considered bad AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology  Apr.-Jun. 2013

a for the placement of Mars because it deals with bed comforts or loss of energy. It is believed that if Mars is present in the 12 th house in a woman’s chart especially then her sexual desires may be much more than what her husband can cope with. Therefore a girl born with Mars in the 12 th house is generally discarded without giving much importance to the other aspects of her chart. Lagna or 1st house represents self. If Mars is present in this house especially vis-avis to the girl then we had explained what would be the outcome. The 4 th house deals with family, comfort and peace of mind. If Mars is placed in the 4th house in a girls chart then sure shot she is going to be a house-breaker sooner or later therefore she is rejected for the happiness of the groom’s family. The 7 th house represents spouse or partner and the placement of Mars in this house can make the girl very demanding for more sexual pleasures from her husband which he cannot easily fulfil. God forbid placement of Mars in the 8th house is a sure shot passport for the death of her husband. The 8th house is considered death house in astrology and Mars being a violent planet one imagines destruction only if it is present in the girls chart. Our understanding and interpretation of Mars is very different to the prevalent concept. Man and woman are equally important and not lacking in any quality. According to Shivasutra in every man 50% of woman is present and in the same way in every woman 50% man is present. That is why any woman can show her fierce side as and when required and the same way every man has a softer side to him and can exhibit a motherly instinct. No culture no society no country can progress by ignoring or condemning 50% of its population and with changing times women are playing a very important role all over the world and so also in India. If India’s economy is progressing it is because of the large AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology  Apr.-Jun. 2013

fopkj xks"Bh Research Review contribution of women power. In Vedic times women were given equal importance and that is why that society and knowledge evolved to the maximum. Times are changing and so is the awareness of womenfolk especially in India. Astrology is nothing but the understanding, reading and study of time alone. Therefore it is the duty of savant astrologers to adapt to the changing times. According to our understanding if Mars is present in the 12th house of a girl’s chart then instead of creating problems on the sexual level she may be very useful in teaching her husband the inner concept of sex. The deeper understanding of sex is to enjoy it to the hilt and then drop it and move forward. The energy which was going waste or lying dormant can be used for spiritual development. When Mars is present in the 1st house in the woman’s horoscope then she can be a go-getter and solve the problems of a household just as a man does. The job of Mars in the first house is to give ample energy and force to the person so the person can fulfil their tasks with ease. Mars as a planet does not differentiate between girl and boy. When Mars is placed in the 4th house of a girl’s chart then instead of destroying the peace of the house or fighting with her mother-in-law she will have better ideas to make the house heaven with her positive energy. When Mars is placed in the 7th house in a girl’s chart then in spite of focusing her energy on sex and destruction she can provide total support to her husband which gives freedom to both of them to bring happiness and harmony in the family. There is no truth in it that when Mars is present in the 8th house in a girl’s chart then she brings death to her husband. Birth and death are controlled by the Almighty and man’s role is insignificant in this scheme of the cosmos. The 8th house is also known for its secret power and hidden knowledge and treasure and placement of Mars in this house always contributes in those fields.  17

For this reason prospective brides and grooms or their parents are anxious to know when the marriage would take place and with which type of spouse ? So they pose this question to their astrologer. Predicting marriage (or any major event) is not an easy task. Good books on astrology viz How to Judge a Horoscope by B V Raman and Crux of Vedic Astrology by Pt Sanjay Rath , have

After marriage a girl goes to husband’s house. This obviously implies a change of residence which comes under the domain of Chaturthamsa (D-4) chart . In case of males it may indicate entry of wife in his life. Chaturthamsa indicates not only the house made of bricks and mortar but also the homely comfort and happiness associated with it. For this the

Friendship, Love and Marriage Sita Ram Singh, Delhi

Everything changes with the time. About two decades back friendship was generally confined to same sex. Heterosexual friendship was scorned of. The improvement in female education and their joining work force has inereased intermingling of sexes. The Western concept of boy-friend and girl-friend is in vogue. If today a boy or girl does not have friends of opposite sex, he/she is considered backward and uncultured. While some friendships remain static, others develop into love and also marriage. Astrology provides a definite clue to judgement of friendship, love and marriage. For judgement of friendship/relationship we have to first examine the Lagna/ Rashi of the individuals. The Zodiacal signs are classified into four groups according to their elements fire, earth, air and water. Fiery sign born are independent, assertive and enthusiastic. Earthy sign born are careful, cautious, suspicious, slow and steady. Airy sign born are gentle, amiable and humane. Watery sign born are sensitive, sentimental, refined and receptive. Fiery sign are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Earthy signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn. Airy signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, while Watery signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces. The interrelationship between the signs is as follows:

AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology ď Ź Apr.-Jun. 2013

Friendly 1. Similar Signs 2. Earthy and Watery 3. Fiery and Airy Unfriendly 1. Fiery and Earthy 2. Fiery and Watery 3. Watery and Airy Friendship : Individuals with similar or friendly birth signs make friends and those with unfriendly signs do not have lasting friendship due to their different nature and aptitude. Individuals born in Aries, Leo and Sagittarius (Fiery sign) harmonise with Gemini, Libra and Aquarius (Airy sign) born. Persons born in Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn (Earthy sign) have lasting friendship with Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces (Watery sign) born. However, those born in Fiery sign (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) will not have good relationship with Earthy sign (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn) born and Watery sign (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) born. Similarly, Watery sign (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) born will not be lasting friends with Airy sign (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius) born. Friendly signs only show friendship, not love. The 11th house of the horoscope relates to friends. Planets friendly to Lagna lord posited there give good friends. In male horoscope Venus indicates female friends, while in female chart Mars shows male friends. 21

Review Love Affair : For love affair, the interrelationship of Moon and Venus, and Mars and Venus is looked into. If Moon is posited in Taurus or Libra (Venus sign) and Venus is located in Cancer (Moon sign) in a horoscope then the individual is sentimental and the friendship may turn into love. Mars conjoining or aspecting Venus, or their placement in each other's sign, or their connection with 5th and 7th house in Lagna chart or Navamsa, shows much attraction towards the opposite sex. A weak 7th lord or Venus in boy's horoscope (Mars for girls) and their affliction indicates an affair prior to marriage. The affliction of Mars in girl's horoscope (Venus in boy's horoscope) by Rahu or Saturn or both, by conjunction or aspect indicates that the native is easily attracted towards opposite sex and is not able to resist physical intimacy. The 4th house of the horosocpe relates to 'heart'. Influence of benefic planets on it, especially Jupiter, shows pure and true love, while the influence of malefic planets shows insincerity and cheating in love affair. The 5th house has an important role in love affair. Influence of benefic planets on it shows success in love, while malefic influence shows disappointment and failure in love affair. When Moon or Venus is located in Mithuna or Sagittarius, or conjoined therein, the native has one-sided love. Then Moon and Venus conjoin in Libra or aspect it, the native has a sincere and faithful love affair. When Lagna and 7th lord are conjoined in 8th or 12th house and aspected by malefic planets from 5th house, then the love ends in frustration. Timing of Love Affair Favourable 1. When Jupiter transits through Lagna, 5th, 8th and 11th house, the native is inclined towards opposite sex. 2. Rahu's transit through 5th or 7th house also produces the same feelings. 22

3. When Rahu transits over Venus in a horoscope, the native is overpowered by pangs of love. Unfavourable 1. Saturn's transit through 5th, 9th or 11th house from lagna breaks love affair. 2. When Rahu transits over Venus located in 12tth house, it creates strong inclination towards love affair, which proves harmful to the native. Love Marriage 1. When there is exchange of houses between 5th and 7th lords, the native enters into love marriage. 2. Relationship among 5th, 7th and 9th lords results in love marriage. 3. If Lagna, 5th and 9th lord become related through conjunction or aspect, the native has love marriage. 4. The conjunction of 11th, 7th and 5th lord, their mutual aspect or exchange of houses promotes love marriage. Failure of Love Marriage 1. The conjunction of 5th and 7th lord with Saturn and Mars in 11th house causes love marriage, but if aspected by Rahu or Ketu the love marriage ends in failure. 2. If 5th and 7th lord with Saturn and Mars are located in 6th, 8th or 12th house, then the love marriage ends in failure. 3. The affliction of 8th house (Mangalya) and the 8th lord by Rahu, Ketu, Mars and Saturn in Lagna chart or Navamsa or both indicates unorthdox marriage which ends in failure. To sum up, a connection through conjunction, aspect or exchange of house by the lords of Lagna, 5th and 7th house in Lagna chart or Navamsa indicates love marriage. The location of 5th and 7th lords in each other's sign, Nakshatra or Navamsa also leads to love marriage. It becomes a certainty when the conjunction of 5th and 7th lords takes AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology ď Ź Apr.-Jun. 2013

How to Make Life Happy & Prosperous Abha Bansal

Man has been equipped with the power of thinking since time immemorial. This power turned him highly creative with the passage of time. When he started suffering at the hands of destiny inspite of his being intelligent & creative he explored different methods to get solutions for his sufferings. In his expeditions of finding solution he became highly spiritual and contributed various jewels of spirituality to mankind. These invaluable jewels are Yoga, Ayurveda, Tantra and Astrology etc. All these are considered parts of Vedantic knowledge in India. The final goal of man as per this knowledge is considered self realisation only. Self Realisation can give us ultimate happiness. Life does not remain incomplete at all after self realisation. Truely, spirituality is an integral part of our life. Here in this article we would like to give few practical applications which are prescribed by great spiritual masters for helping common man in his day to day life. Human body is formed of five elements fire, earth, air, water and sky. A proper balance of all these elements in the human body and surroundings is needed for health, happiness and prosperity of the individual. The imbalance of these five elements is the main cause of diseases and every sort of problems. Ayurveda, Astrology and Vastu shastra guide us to maintain balance of the given elements. It has been found that human mind is directly related to different ailments of the body. Possibility of heart attack increases 30% in the position of sudden shock. It has been found that elderly couples can hardly bear the shock of the 24

death of their partner and many of them die within a short span of time after the death of their partner. The main reason is insufficient release of harmones in body. The human mind secretes different kinds of hormones. This secretion greatly depends upon the positive or negative thinking. When these hormones are not released in the body sufficiently it causes various ailments. Ayurveda has recommended different treatment methods to create hormonal balance in human body. It has been observed that sometimes a patient gets recovery from a disease by listening music, religious songs and religious discourses. For example if a person is suffering from high or low blood pressure he can feel relaxed after listening music, religious songs or discourses. When a person feels relaxed naturally his mind will be more balanced. AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology ď Ź Apr.-Jun. 2013

a People perform astrological remedies like wearing gems, worshipping yantras and donating articles related to malefic planets to get rid of all types of problems whether it is related to health, finance, relation or anything else. Mahamrityunjaya Mantra is very popular astrological remedy to get over different diseases and calamities. Sometimes astrologers suggest donations etc. Recommendation of Gem stone is considered as the prime astrological remedy. By wearing gemstone specified for a particular planet positive, energy related to the planet enters into the body of the wearer through the Sun rays. The Making of a Doctor

S.P. Gaur, Gurgaon

When it comes to predicting about a profession not much help is available from the classical books on astrology. May be it is because in olden era when these treatise were prepared, there were only a few occupations and a single profession was catering to several services simultaneously. However in the name of "Karmajeeva" some rules are found indicating which planet would be considered for professional income. In Varahmihir's "Brihajjatak" in the chapter on 'Karmajeevodhyay' the following shloka appears.

vFkkZfIr fir`fir`ifRu 'k=qfe= Hkzkr`L=hHk`rdtukfíokdjk|S%A gksjsU}ksnZ'kexrSfoZdYiuh;k HkU}dafLinifrxka'kukFko`Ù;kAA The above shloka explains the source of income as father, if Sun is posited in 10th house from Lagna or Moon. Mother, if Moon Enemy, if Mars Friend, if Mercury Brother, if Jupiter Wife, if Venus Servant, if Saturn

Lagna Lagna Lagna Lagna Lagna Lagna

or or or or or or

Moon Moon Moon Moon Moon Moon

In case no planet is posited in the 10th house, then the Navmansh lord of the 10th lord from Lagna, Moon and Sun chart would be indicative of the income during its dasha. In "Phaldeepika" in the fifth chapter on "Karmajeeva" a similar shloka appears as follows :

vFkkZfIr dFk;sf}yXu'kf'kuks% izkcY;r% [kspjS% 28

deZLFkS% fir`ekr`'kkL=olqâök=kfnfHk% L=h/kukr~A Hk`R;k}k fnuukFk yXujkf'kuka e/;s cyh;kaLrr% desZ'kLFk uoka'k jkf'kio'kkf}`fÙka txqLrf}n%AA The meaning of this shloka is same as that of the previous shloka from 'Brihajjatak'. One interesting thing is observed here that while Mars in 10th house gives income from enemy, Jupiter gets income from brother. It is also understood that the strongest of the Lagna, Moon or Sun chart should be reckoned for specifying the source of income. Phaldeepika also contains some details about some professions and items of trade peculiar to the seven planets but none of planets signifies doctor's profession. With the passage of time, the number and variety of professions has increased tremendously and the pace is likely to accelerate in future. For assigning a particular profession to a particular planet, the scholars have to depend on their general significations and use their common sense and analytical skills for assigning the particular profession to a particular planet. a W hic h plane ts profession?

the

We all know that 10th house is the Karma bhava and therefore the apt house to decide about the profession of the native. In accordance with the "Bhavat Bhavam" principle 10th from the 10th i.e. 7th house can also give indication about the profession. Scholars generally prefer to use 7th house for own private business or to tackle the question whether business can be done in partnership. In classical books there is mention of lord of the Navmansh containing the 10th lord, to be indicative of the natives profession. Some scholars are of the opinion that Lagnesh is the most important planet to reflect upon the native's profession. There are others who feel that the strongest planet of the horoscope will have maximum influence on the native's profession. The placement of 11th lord gives the source of income and hence can be indicative of the profession. Again the lord of Dashmansha chart is also the potential planet to decide about the profession. Our classical books, while dealing with the significations of Rashis, have also mentioned about the likely occupations, the native can have when such Rashi falls in Lagna or 10th house. Similarly the native's Nakshatra or the Nakshatra of the planet indicative of the profession can also give sufficient clue about the profession. Predicting profession is a difficult task As listed above there is a plethora of factors which have a direct bearing for deciding about the profession. It is a tricky affair for any astrologer to come to a firm conclusion about the profession of a person. Moreover it is an often raised question. When children are in school stage parents seck help of astrologers to decide about which stream of subjects AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology ď Ź Apr.-Jun. 2013

should be opted for, which directly points out to profession in future. At least at this stage decision is required to be taken whether the student would adopt engineering or medical line after senior secondary level. The grown up people also seek astrologer's advice for taking up a particular line of business or suitable change of profession. When the astrologer considers all the possibilities, several planets get involved pointing out to a range of diverse careers. So if the decision is left exclusive to the astrologer, he can only indicate options of several careers to the native, instead of one and it is ultimately the prerogative of the native to choose one which suits his educational background and job skills or experience. While there can be hundreds of various professions, careers or business dealings, there are only 9 planets to choose from. Obviously one planet caters to dozens of professions and when several planets get involved, it is not possible for the astrologer to advise a specific one field. Fact ors responsible for Medical profession As already stated, our classical books contain only broad hints about native's professions. It is left to the serious students and experienced astrologers to render these broad hints into specific professions and keep on extending the list in keeping with the new developments. In post independence era, several scholars have made their contribution in this field and made the practising astrologer's task less onerous. After gathering the information from classical as well as derivative sources, we thought of concentrating only on one profession i.e. Medical line so as to make it a simple and manageable exercise. a. Role of Rashis : The fiery rashis viz. Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are said to contribute significantly in choosing of 29

Review medical line apart from several other occupations as follows : Aries : Surgery, army, police, firemen, arms, weapons, iron/steel, guard, security, physical sports like wrestling, boxing, electrical, coal, brick kiln, property agents, construction, criminal lawyer etc.

Ashwini nakshatra's deity is Ashwini Kumar, famous for their medical expertise in Hindu mythology. Mool, Jyeshtha, Ashlesha and Ardra are categorised as 'Darun' or 'Teekshana' nakshatras suitable for surgery or use of medicines. c. Role of Planets

Leo : Doctors, physicians, politician, administrators, executives, speculators, money lenders, ambassadors, soldiers, land lords etc.

Sun : This planet is widely regarded as physician or doctor planet though many other occupations are attributed to it. It may aid Heart and Eye specialists.

Sagittarius : Hospital/nursing home owners, entrepreneurs, bankers, financers, judges/lawyers, preachers, trustees, educational institutions etc.

Moon : This planet is related to Nursing services. Being the significator for mind, it relates directly to Psychologist or Psychiarists.

The watery signs are also equally involved in promoting medical profession.

Mars : Mars is widely regarded as the planet aiding profession of a doctor surgeon, being a significator for blood and surgery tools.

Cancer : Nursing, para-medical, naval/ marine, fishing, mineral water, Caterer, restaurants, shipping, tourism, explorers, petroleum, decorators etc. Scorpio : Doctors, nurses, poisons, drugs and chemicals, medicines, navy/marine, navigators, police, army, explorer, occultists, insurance, liquids etc. Pisces : Surgeons, doctors, nurses, hospital, jail, secret services, prisons, chemicals, oils, perfumes etc. Thus we find that six rashis viz. fiery and watery ones or 50% of the twelve rashis help in prompting the native to take up medical career though other occupations can also be there as listed above. These rashis need to be in the 10th house or lagna to be effective for this profession. Some scholars treat Virgo also as a medical sign which can help the native to adopt medical career apart from other careers such as astrologer, accountant, computer, media, teacher, reporter etc. b. Role of Nakshatras The six Ganda Mool nakshatras viz. Ashwini, Magha, Mool owned by Ketu and Ashlesha, Jyeshta, Revati owned by Mercury are also helpful in taking up medical career. 30

Mercury : It is the significator for green plants, leaves used in medicines, skin and nervous system (vertebra). It is related to physicians, dermatologists, ENT specialists. Jupiter : It is responsible for relief and 'sukh' that comes after treatment, is significator for digestive organs. It is related to Gastroenterology and hospital administration. Venus : This planet is related to sage Shukracharya, who practiced 'Mritsanjivini Vidya' that is revival of dead persons. Being significator of 7th house / rashi, it is related to medical profession of Gynaecology, urology and sexology. Saturn : Being the significator for 6th house, disease and death as well as nerves, it is widely considered pro medical field. Rahu/Ketu : They follow in the foot steps of their principals viz. Saturn and Mars. They both account for poisons, drugs and medicines. Rahu is related to forensic science and Pathology, testing equipments and Ketu with surgical procedures. a Thus we find that all the nine planets can prompt the native to opt for medical career in one way or the other. But then all astrologers may not agree with this proposition because most of them would point out only a selected few planets for helping in medical profession. Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Sun are generally favoured for medical line by most of the astrologers. Purpose of the Research Study : As can be seen from the foregoing, ultimately it is some planet or some planets which put pressure on the native to take to medical line. The purpose of the study is to find out these specific planets, be it

the lord of Lagna or 10th house from Lagna or Moon chart or lord of Navmansh rashi of 10th lord or lord of rashi falling in 10th house or lagna or birth Nakshatra lord etc. For this purpose we collected the birth details of qualified and practicing allopathic doctors numbering 56, prepared their horoscopes and analysed the data to know which are the planets occurring most frequently to indicate medical profession. Simultaneously we would also come to know which one is the best method to reveal the planet influencing the profession of the native.

Therefore we can say when fiery or airy rashis fall in Lagna or 10th house, the person is more likely to take to medical profession. 3. Ganda Mool Nakshatras viz. Ashwini, Magha, Mool owned by Ketu and Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati, owned by Mercury have prominently emerged as the birth nakshatras aiding medical line. 4. Moon's affliction in Lagna as well as Navmansh chart has emerged as another prominent feature in case of Doctors' horoscopes because its frequency has been recorded at a whopping 99%. The sample size of 56 doctors is not a big one but the study has revealed interesting facts and broken several myths specially with regard to the role of specific planets like Saturn, Mars, Rahu, Sun etc. in medical profession.ď ˛

Affliction of Moon : Another interesting feature has come in our notice that Moon is afflicted by malefic planets in Lagna as well as D/9 chart to the extent of 99%. Table 8 : We have not taken into consideration 10th house lord from Lagna and Moon charts because the same frequency is repeated as recorded in Table 1 and 3. Hence Table 2 and 4 have been ignored. Here the frequency is led by Venus at 43, closely followed by Mercury at 41 and Mars at 40 Frequency of Sun and Moon is low at 27 and 24 because they own only one rashi. Inference 1. No particular planets have emerged whose role can be highlighted as crucial, in helping the native to pursue medical profession. In other words, we can say all the planets can be helpful. 2. Vaastu Makes our buildings breathe Col. Tejandra Pal Tyagi, Ghaziabad

Vaastu Science is a complete science in itself and this science can bring happiness to the whole world according to Lord Vishwakarma (The Architect God) ; it can impart all the happiness namely, plenty of riches, rightful living, fulfilment of desires and liberation from diseases required to lead a full life on the earth. Happiness and Health do not come by chance but they can be chosen, we are suffering because we have drifted away from the Nature. Vaastu is a link that brings man closer to nature. This fact was well recognized and recorded by our ancient Rishi Munis. Whatever they enunciated in the ancient times is totally scientific, secular, holistic and universal; however, their words of

wisdom need to be modified to suit the present scenario. Vaastu is universally applicable irrespective of place of birth. Vaastu changes with geography and climate ; for instance , the best direction for China as per Vaastu is East of South while for India, it is East of North. It is the Geography and Climate which decides that Kitchen in Kerala should be in NORTH EAST, while in Uttar Kashi it should be in SOUTH WEST and in Delhi it should be in SOUTH EAST. But geography is not the sole criteria for the application of the principles of Vaastu. An Architect needs to know the ancient treatise of Samrangan Sutradhar, Mayamattam, Sthapatya Veda, Manasara etc. more than just the modern architecture. A sound Architect looks for natural sunlight and cross ventilation in any residential building and it can be achieved by properly using the effects of eight directions; four cardinal directions including north, south, east, west and four angular directions that include northeast, northwest, southeast and

Vaastu southwest. This is sufficient to support the physical needs and comforts of the occupant. But for the mental and spiritual well being the effect of Aakash and Paatal (zenith and Nadir) are also required to be taken into consideration. Zenith direction refers to the cosmic energy while Nadir direction refers to the Geo energy. Vaastu takes into account the effects of the cosmic and the geo energy. This marks the major difference between Vaastu and architecture. We all possess four types of skins that include the body skin, the clothes we wear, the house we live in and the surroundings in which our house is located. We need to make all the four skins breathe and filter. Hence Vaastu is a way of living life through knowledge. Bhakti and Meditation takes the rear seat. People still have doubts about Vaastu Science since it has come to be associated with religion and rituals and is also looked upon as illogical at times. Thanks to our Pseudo Vaastu Consultants who are, generally, neither Engineers nor Scientists, but they have presented Vaastu as a big fear that if you do not subscribe to it you may be put to great danger. Our aim is to remove the fear psychosis from Vaastu and bring to the notice of the public that any Vaastu defect can be neutralized to a great extent by balancing the elemental energies. Our universe is made up of five elements namely earth, sky, air, water and fire. Five natural forces corresponding to these five elements affect man and his surroundings. These forces are: Magnetic field (Earth Element), Gravitational Attraction (Water Element), Solar Radiation(Fire Element), Wind Energy(Air Element) and Cosmic 38

a Energy(Sky Element). Balance of these forces can be accomplished by suitably adjusting the properties of the basic elements. For example, if the Earth Element is deficient in a building, it can be augmented by introducing the smell of Vetiver Aromatic Oil which in turn is related to the South West Direction associated with earth element. Let us take one element i.e. Fire Element i.e Solar Radiation. Spectrum of the Sun is very large. It contains, Gamma Rays, X Rays, Ultra Violet Rays, VIBGYOR, Infra Red Rays, TV Waves, Long Waves etc. We are generally concerned with the Ultra Violet Rays just ahead of the white light VIBGYOR and the Infra Red Rays just short of the VIBGYOR. Ultra Violet rays are harmful to us as they do the skin burning and create genetic disorders. Infra Red Rays are good to us as they give us warmth and improves our efficiency. Therefore, a building should be oriented in such a way that it allows the infra red rays and blocks the ultra violet rays. This filtration is called Vaastu in scientific terms. Infra red rays emerge from the Northeast direction while ultra violet rays reach the earth from the Southwest in the afternoon. Hence we should have maximum opening in the Northeast while minimum openings in the Southwest. This is the essence of the Vaastu since it allows the Building to breathe. Before moving on further let us analyse this principle of the Vaastu Science that North East Direction called Ishan Kone should have minimum openings. It no where says that the entrance door should be in the Ishaan Kone. In fact, if there are two windows in the North East instead of one entrance door, they are better since the area of opening of two windows is more than the area of opening of a single door. ď ˛ AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology ď Ź Apr.-Jun. 2013

Relevance of Aquarium in Fengshui Kanupriya Verma, Shimla

Placing a feng shui aquarium in your home or office is a powerful way to draw auspicious chi of prosperity and good luck into your space. It has the potential of having many positive benefits. However, you must properly place and care for the aquarium in order to attract the positive flow of energy. With the correct placement, set up and care, the aquarium is a perfect combination of harmony and balance.

An aquarium brings more than beauty into a home. The water symbolizes the flow of life, of growth and the activities of living things. The motion and sounds of the bubbling water as it moves throughout the fish tank activates and increases the positive energy of the area bringing good fortune, wealth and abundance. If the aquarium is located in a room that

is dry, it helps to balance the energy by adding humidity to the air. The moving water in the aquarium has the power to revitalize energy that was stagnant or dormant. Placing an aquarium in the proper location is important. An easy way to identify the appropriate areas of your home is using a bagua diagram. The Southeast section of your home is the best location for aquarium. This is the traditional area to activate wealth and prosperity. You can also place an aquarium in the north or east sections of a home. The north represents career and the east represents health and family. Place an aquarium to block off sha qi, or negative chi, from exterior structures with sharp corners such as a fence, a bridge or corners

Fengshui from another house. Aquarium placed under a beam reduces stress and mental pressure. Never place an aquarium in the kitchen or the bedroom. Do not place an aquarium in the centre of a house. The Five Elements in an Aquarium An aquarium is a perfect example of the balance of the five elements of feng shui. When all five elements are present and interacting with one another, they are the perfection of chi energy. Water - The water element is the water in the aquarium. Earth - The substrate material represents the element of earth. The material could be one, or a mixture of: • Stones • Soil • Gravel • Sand Fire - The lighting or the fish in the aquarium represent the element of fire. Fish that are of the following colours represent fire: • Red • Gold • Yellow • Orange Metal - The element of metal exists in the actual framework of the structure of many types of aquariums. Two other ways of incorporating the element of metal into an aquarium include placing old copper coins below the tank’s substrate material or adding gold coloured fish such as golden arowana or gold fish. If you use old coins make certain the metal will not harm the fish. Wood - The wood element is represented by the plants growing in the fish tank or by driftwood placed inside the aquarium. Fish for a Feng Shui Aquarium Traditionally many feng shui practitioners recommend placing eight or nine orange coloured fish in the tank with one black fish. The role of the single 40

black fish is to absorb all the negative energy before it reaches you. For people that have a smaller tank, three gold coloured fish and one black fish works as well.Goldfish are one of the most popular types of fish for feng shui aquarium. Generally, goldfish are colourful, hardy and inexpensive. Also popular, but very expensive, are arowana, purest arowana and dragon fish. Keeping your feng shui aquarium clean, beautiful and well cared for helps your fish stay happy and healthy, thereby, enhancing its energy. In the Chinese culture, fish are a symbol of fortune. This is because the fish’s eyes never close and many believe this allows fish the ability to see all obstacles and good fortunes ahead. Water is the symbol for money and the element that attracts good fortune and wealth. Putting these two elements together creates an auspicious feng shui enhancement. If you decide to use an aquarium with fish in your home or business, place it according to the rules of the school of feng shui. If you follow Black Hat feng shui, then the best places for your aquarium is your career sector and the north wall of your home office or den. Traditional classical feng shui of Form and Compass determines the prime sector of your home based on several reports such as flying star report. You will also find that you may need to move your aquarium as the stars move through various positions in your home, much like real star change positions in the hemisphere. Things to Avoid As with all things feng shui, there are some hard and fast rules that all of AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology  Apr.-Jun. 2013

a the feng shui schools follow. No Water in Your Bedroom One of the biggest mistakes people make is putting a fish aquarium or goldfish bowl in a bedroom. This is one of the worst feng shui misunderstandings about water and bedrooms. You don’t want water in any bedroom since it is a restless element. You don’t want to place photos or paintings of water over your bed or in the bedroom even if your bedroom is in the north sector of your home.

fopkj xks"Bh Fengshui Review auspicious colours in feng shui applications. Red and black fish are considered the best colours to use in order to optimize and activate elements. Beside the goldfish, another favourite choice is the Red sword and Black Molly. Any kind of fish will do as long as you follow the red and black criteria. Numbers of Fish to Use

The elements in a kitchen are closely associated with fire, so too much water is a very disruptive element in this room.

The number eight is the most fortunate number in feng shui. The number eight creates a pattern of two circles with no end and is considered a symbol of infinity. Since the number eight is associated with wealth and power, the infinity aspects means a limitless source of the energies this number will bring to you.

Feng Shui Lucky Number of Fish in an Aquarium In feng shui, numbers are always important and it’s not different when it comes to the popular feng shui tool of fish. You can use fish either in a koi pond outside your home or in an aquarium inside your home. Both uses are auspicious. Lucky Number of Fish in Aquarium

What Kinds of Fish to Buy One of the most common kinds of fish used in feng shui are Koi, but these fish get very large and unless you have a huge tank, it’s easier to use their cousin, the goldfish. Red and black are two very AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology  Apr.-Jun. 2013

Fengshui Most feng shui practitioners agree that the number nine is the most auspicious number, so it’s no wonder that this is the favoured number of fish for your tank or aquarium. The number nine is the number for prosperity, which symbolizes your wealth having a long life span. Combination of Nine Fish The best combination of nine fish in an aquarium is eight goldfish or Arrowana fish (often referred to as a dragon fish and is best used in a koi pond due to grown size of over four feet) and one black-coloured goldfish (black moor). With the combination of eight red and one black fish, the fish symbolize prosperity, energy and good fortune. The number eight is the major prosperity number for feng shui practices. Create an Auspicious Aquarium According to feng shui principles, adding an aquarium to your home or office is an excellent way to attract auspicious chi into your space, especially for good luck, abundance and prosperity. It is extremely important that a feng shui aquarium: ·

42

Is always clean

·

Has circulating oxygenated water

·

Is properly maintained

·

Has an interesting environment for the fish

·

Has a balance of the five elements of feng shui: Water, wood, fire, earth and metal.; elements can be symbolic

·

Is filled with happy fish living in a clean tank that are fed correctly, are healthy, and circulate positive energy

The most important rule for an aquarium is to keep the water clean. If the water becomes stagnant or dirty, the fish will not be healthy or happy. This type of unkempt aquarium attracts negative energy (sha chi) that can impact all areas of your life especially your wealth sector.
