From The Editor's Desk

Our religious texts and scriptures have detailed description about the Fasts & Festivals. These texts have also outlined the qualifications of a person aspiring to observe Fasts & have setforth the rules to be followed while observing these Fasts. There is special importance of a Fast performed on the auspicious occasion of any festival as it is said to be bestowing manyfold auspicious results. Every Fast has its special significance and provides auspicious results which ward off the agony and gives relief from the distress and problems. Let's discuss what our religious texts and scriptures enshrine about it : What is Parva (Festival) : The important dates related to the emergence and incarnation of Gods as well as the dates related to special religious events, solar ingress, eclipse, Full Moon, New Moon days etc. are called Parvas. Our sages and seers have given special relevance to the fasts, donations, Japas, Yajnas, holy bath performed on these special Parva periods. What is Festival (Vrat) : Sacred conduct and self control are called the Vrat. In common language, to have control over tongue while choosing or taking food is Vrat. There are four kinds of Vrat: 1- Fast : Not to eat anything during the whole day (sunrise to next sunrise). 2- Ek Nakta : To have food once in whole day in afternoon. 3- Nakta : To have food once in whole day at the time of sunset. 8

4- Ayachit : To have food once in a whole day if someone gives without asking. What is Karmakaal : The time when donation, holy bath, Japa or pooja is advised by the shashtras are called Karmakaal. For example, lord Ganesha should be worshipped on Ganesha Chaturthi at the time of Moonrise. So, the Karmakaal here is Moonrise time. Rules for the Fast observers : The following rules are prescibed for the observers of Fast : They should not accept the food given by others, should not take meal twice, have breakfast several times, smoking, beattle or tobacco chewing, taking non-veg., wine, lentil, lemon etc. Besides that they should refrain away from sleeping in daytime, oil massage, exercise, jealousy, anger, greed, telling a lie, theft etc. Forgiveness, truth, compassion, donation, prayer etc. are the main components of Fast. Fast does not break by medicines as well as the permissions from the Guru (Teacher). Representatives in Fast : If anyone is not capable of observing the Fast himself/herself due to sickness or some unavoidable reasons he/she may entrust the task of observing the Fast to his/ her respresentative who may be wife, son, brother, mother, sister, father, husband, priest, friend, disciple etc. If someone has fever or menstruation starts, birth or death takes place then one can observe the Fast but prayer and giving donation should be entrusted to others to perform.

AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology l Jan.-Mar. 2014

a Prohibited Fasts for the Married: The religious texts mention that the married persons should not observe Fast on Sunday, ingress day, Ekadashi of Krishna paksha or solar/lunar eclipse day. Incapability in Fasts: If anyone is not capable of observing the Fast for the whole day, in that case he/she should observe Eknakta, Nakta or Ayachit Vrat. But the observers of Fast should eat only one-third of their hunger. Full diet should only be taken on next day after ending the Fast. For this also, they should take fruits, milk, Sawan, bathu etc. and should not take grains. Rights of women to observe Fast: Religious texts prohibit the women to observe Fast without the prior permisson of husband. Women can have the full auspicious results of fast even without observance of the fast if she is devoted to her husband, takes care of him, control her tongue and sensual urge.

ifr:iks fgrkpkjS% euksokDdk;la;eS%A ozrSjkjk/;rs L=hfHk% oklqnsoks n;kfuf/k%AA ŸLdUniqjk.k½ Eatables and Uneatables in Fast: Local tradition should be taken into account while deciding the eatable and uneatable items in Fast. Milk, fruits, Shyamak, Niwar, til, and rock salt are eatable for the observers of Fast. Milk other than cow, lentil, vinegar, meat, brinjal, petha, peas, pulses, use of bronze utensils and food given by others are strictly prohibited. Occurrence of eclipse during Fast: If eclipse takes place on the day of Fast, it is not considered inauspicious because on eclipse day all types of worship can be performed. But if the eclipse takes place on ending day of the Fast then Fast should end on the next day and the observers of Fast should take food after taking bath and prayer. Accomplishment of Fast:

Fast Donation Rambha Vrat After 5 years Pradosha Vrat After 1 year Somvati Amavasya 12 yrs. or 1 yr. Sankasht Chaturthi 21 years Rishi Panchami 7 years Nrisingh chaturdashi 14 years Anant Chaturdashi 14 years Shivratri Vrat 14 years Mahalaxmi 16 years Ekadashi Vrat After 80 yrs. of age Other Fasts should be accomplished at least after 1 year of start. Overlapping of two Fasts : If two Fasts happen to be on same day then do some rituals yourself and entrust the rest to your representatative. If any Fast happens to be on the ending day of the previous Fast then don't open your Fast by taking food but just take the smell and leave it because Parana is essential in the accomplishment of any Fast. Repentation of abondonment of any Fast: If any Fast breaks on account of any unavoidable reason or anger, greed etc. prevail during the Fast, then three days' Fast should be observed or head should be shaved. Overlapping of Fast & Shraddh: If Shraddh happens to be on Fast day then do the rituals like Pinddaan etc. and feed the Brahmans and then feed the rest of the cooked foods to cows after taking only the smell of the food. Taking cooked food is essential for the contentment & peace of departed souls. Smelling of food does not break the Fast and completes the formality of food taking. Parana or Ending of Fast: Taking the food at the end of the Fast is called Parana. Without it, Fast is not complete. Parana is done on the next day in the first half from the day of Fast. Vegetarian diet like fruits, milk etc. is permissible in Parana. Food given by someone should not be accepted.

Particular Fast should be concluded or accomlished after the following periods : AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology l Jan.-Mar. 2014

In the present modern era every field underwent remarkable transformation and education system is no exception to this. There emerged a number of branches, sub branches and micro branches of a particular subject. in this perspective, it becomes difficult and challenging for the Astrology to identify the educational stream which a native will undertake or a native has expertise in. For this, a student of Astrology or an Astrologer has to study and research continuously to foresee and identify the subtle changes in planetary combinations and roles of dashas which enable a native to choose a sub branch or micro branch of any subject or stream. Education in Business Management is very popular nowadays. Hotel Management is also one of the important branches of Business management. There are dipolma, graduation and post-graduation level courses available in hotel management that has to be completed by an individual before joining this profession. 10

This is a certified profession where attained has a direct education connection with the profession. Therefore, a connection between the 5th house (house of education) & 10th house (house of profession) is essential. It means that education acquired is to be put to use in the profession. The aim of a hotel is to provide homely comforts and food to the customers so the role of 2nd, 4th & 10th houses also come into play. The main significator for hotel industry is Venus. Therefore, relationship of 2nd, 4th, 10th house and Venus is essential. Jupiter is the planet which signifies the study in Management. So, its connection is also essential. It has been found in most of the cases that there is certainly a connection between 5th house,10th house and Venus.

Example : 11-09-1977, 20:44, Jalandhar The native of this chart has successfully completed a three years course in Hotel

Connection of 2nd,4th,10th and Venus In D-1 chart 10th house is receiving the aspect of 2nd & 7th lord Venus from the 4th house. Venus is influencing the houses

2nd, 4th & 10th which are to be seen for the service in Hotel Management. 10th lord Saturn is associated with 4th lord Moon and aspecting the 2nd house. Again the connection of 2nd, 4th and 10th house is crystal clear. In Navamsha chart, 10th lord Mars is placed in 7th house with 4th lord Venus and is aspecting the 2nd house. Navamsha chart also confirms the promise of birth chart. Now, let's see the Dashamsha chart. Here,10th house has 2nd lord Sun and obtains the aspects of 10th lord Mars and 4th lord Venus from the 4th house. 10th lord Mars occupies the 4th house with 4th lord Venus and aspects the 2nd lord Sun. So, the connection of 2nd, 4th and 10th houses or their lords and connection of Venus with 10th house or 10th lord in all the concerned charts promises professional career in the field of Hotel Management.

Connection of Jupiter Jupiter is associated with lagna lord Mars in D-1. Jupiter is aspecting the 10th house in Navamsha chart. Jupiter is associated with lagna lord Moon in Dashamsha Chart.

Dasha From 01-11-1982, Venus Dasha for 20 years started to the native. He joined Hotel Management Course in the Dasha of VenSat-Mer in April 1996 through competitive examination and completed the course successfully. Mahadasha : Venus, the MD lord is 2nd & 7th lord placed in 4th house and is aspecting the 10th house of distinction. Venus is also placed in the nakshatra of Mercury who is the lord of 6th house of competition and is placed in the 5th house of education. In Navamsha chart Venus is 4th & 11th lord and is placed in the 7th house with 5th & 10th lord Mars. In Dashamsha chart, Venus is again associated with 5th & 10th lord Mars and is aspecting the 10th house. Mahadasha of Venus gave him

the opportunity to join Hotel Management course as Venus is connected with 5th & 10th houses or their lords in all the three concerned Charts. Venus is also the significator of Hotel Industry. Antardasha : Saturn, the AD lord is 10th lord of distinction and is placed in the 5th house of education with 5th lord Sun. In Navamsha chart, Saturn is placed in the 10th house and is aspecting the 5th & 10th lord Mars and Venus, the significator for hotel. In Dashamsha chart, Saturn is placed in the 2nd house and is aspecting the 5th & 10th lord Mars and significator Venus. AD lord Saturn is again associated with 5th & 10th houses or their lords. Pratyantardasha : Mercury, the PD lord is the third lord signifying self efforts and 6th lord of competition, placed in the 5th house of education with 10th lord Saturn and is in the nakshatra of Venus. In Navamsha chart, Mercury is placed in the 2nd house and is receiving the aspect of 5th and 10th lord Mars. In Dashamsha chart, Mercury is placed in the 6th house of competition indicating success in competitive examination required to be passed for admission in Hotel Management course. The connection of Dasha lords with 5th & 10th houses and Venus in the concerned 12

charts gave this person an entry in Hotel Management course through competitive examination.

Thus we find the following essential parameters which ensure the study in Hotel Management : 1. Main significator- Venus 2. Connection of 5th lord of education with Venus. 3. Connection of 5th house and 10th house. 4. Connection of 2nd, 4th, 10th houses and Venus in D-1, D-9 & D-10. 5. This is a Management Course therefore link of Jupiter with lagna, 10th house or Venus should be there. 6. The connection of MD, AD & PD lords with the concerned houses mentioned above. 7. Connection of Dasha lords with Venus and service giving houses at the time of joining service in hotel. Some birth details of the natives are being presented here who took the study of Hotel Management for the research and self study of the students of Astrology : (i) 07-02-1974, 05:34, Delhi (ii) 02-11-1961, 01:22, Delhi (iii) 20-02-19978, 09:15, Delhi (iv) 20-10-1979, 23:45, Kolkata

Smoking is one of the bad habits which are difficult to quit. There are many people who ask about the best ways to quit smoking cigarette through astrology remedies. They want to know how they can quit smoking and what are the causes of smoking habits and the best ways to quit it. Many people want to quit smoking. Smoking is the single greatest avoidable risk factor for cancer; worldwide, tobacco consumption caused an estimated 100 million deaths in the last century and if current trends continue, it will kill 1,000 million in the 21st century. Causes of Smoking in Astrology Moon's connection with Mars and Saturn makes the native smoking prone. Mercury must also be afflicted. Moon's affliction shows unstable mind, emotional disturbance due to which native feels uncomfortable to adjust in his environment. Native does not feel good from inside. Moon must be in malefic houses specially 8th house under bad influence or in bad position. There must be affliction to 8th house also; it denotes long term bad habits. 6th lord must have connection with 4th house, 4th lord or Cancer sign. Usually Moon is in waning position in these persons chart. 2nd house represent food, mouth, throat so it must be afflicted with malefics. Mercury indicates swift movement, hands, mouth which must be afflicted by malefics. So 2nd, 4th , 6th houses with afflicted Moon and Mercury play an important role making person addicted to smoking/cigarettes. In the example charts natives are badly addicted to the habit of smoking. In both charts Moon were found to be in 8th house of birth chart with afflicted Mercury by Saturn. Example Chart One Moon debilitated in 8th house in the sign

in Cancer sign. Here Moon is combust too. Mercury is in 8th house afflicted by Saturn with other malefics also. Gulika one of the malefics like Saturn is placed in Gemini. In Navamsha chart Moon is afflicted by Mars, nodes. Mercury in 8th house aspected by Saturn. In Trimshamsha chart Moon again is placed in 8th house with 4th lord Mercury aspected by Rahu and Ketu in Gemini, 6th lord Sun with Saturn aspected by nodes. Mars' involvement is also seen in these charts. Mars planet of energy represents fire giving boost to negative habits. People with strong Gemini energy (negatively strong) tend to be cigarette smokers. Gemini can be restless and jittery in nature, and those who are strongly influenced by this sign often chain smoke mainly in an effort to calm themselves. Effective healing will not only break the addiction to nicotine, but substitute healthy methods to calm the nerves and mind. d

Quit Smoking with Astrology Moon governs your habits, emotions, conditioning, moods and your attachments. The moon governs your emotional connection to your environment and how you feel inside. The moon influences your emotions driven moods and your will to succeed. Saturn is the planet of discipline, maturity, restriction, darkness, limitation, and structure. Saturn wants you to progress through hard work and diligent effort. The Moon must be at an angle to Saturn that provides an easy flow of energy. When determining the best aspects between the Moon and Saturn, the Moon should be waning. The waning Moon occurs after the Full Moon. As the moon waxes or reaches its fullness our desires increase. When the Moon is waning, our desires decrease. You can quit smoking when you are determined to do so. For this you need to check in transit the Moon's placement and the energy of Saturn to become smoke free forever. Saturn energy is a great guide and teacher. Saturn will reward you for your hard work and efforts. When you decide to quit smoking you will need discipline as much as you need motivation and this is where Saturn will help you. Other Remedies : •Drink milk every day in day time specially. •Take good amount of fresh fruits and Juices every day. •Don’t remain hungry, keep having something healthy, fruits, juice, toffee, lozenge. •Vegetarian diet helps in increasing the sattvic quality of the mind. •Drink lots of water. •Take Nicotine substitutes to help quit smoking gum, patch, nasal spray, inhaler and lozenge, Fennel seeds, it will also keep your mouth busy. •Wearing Rudraksha can also help as it gives stability of mind and removes negativity q T

Cases of divorce can be avoided if following points are checked in the birth charts of boy and girl at the time of match making for marriage purpose. • If Mars and Venus both are in 7th, 8th or 12th house the boy/girl having such yoga is likely to be characterless. Means such person may try to have sexual act with many girls, boys as the case may be. Mars gives sex energy and Venus to enjoy sex. Such yoga may be checked before finalization of marriage. We should also verify life style of such persons. If Mars and Venus are powerful; that is in their own house or in house of exaltation; such person may be characterless means they may try to make sexual relations with opposite sex even after marriage. • Seventh lord in 8th house or 8th lord in seventh house may create many problems in married life. One girl DOB- 23.12.1971 Kanya Lagna, Kumbh Rashi is having 8th lord Mars in 7th house of marriage. She was married during 1995 and took legal divorce within one year. • As per experience on examination of many birth charts Moon in seventh house (marriage house) generally gives love marriage or extra marital relations. Such point should also be examined before finalization of marriage and matching of birth charts. Fifth house in birth chart is love sign and seventh house is marriage house. Similarly 12th house is for bed comforts. If 5th and 7th lords are together in 5th or 7th house or they exchange houses or together there is chance of love marriage.

y

In majority of cases of such yoga there is possibility of love marriage. Some examples are given below : • Famous Film Star Rajesh Khanna having DOB 29.12.42 Gemini lagna and Leo rashi, Rajesh Khanna is having sun, Mercury, Venus in marriage house. Sun, Mercury in 2 4 marriage house Sa 3 5 generally causes 1 Ra Ju Mo divorce in married 12 6 life. In this case 9 lord of love sign, 11 7 SU Ve Ke (fifth house) is in Me 8 10 marriage house. Human beings get co-operation from their friends and opposition from enemies, but planetary relationship is based on the principle 'Might is Right'. According to Maharishi Parasara, a strong planet compels a weak planet in his sphere of influence to toe his line irrespective of the fact whether these are friendly or inimical to each other. Maharishi has mentioned about the planetary co-operation at different places in Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra . These details are presented in this article. Co-operation between two planets 1. When one strong and another weak planet occupy the same sign : For example, Jupiter and Mars are in cancer sign. Here Jupiter is exalted, while Mars is debilitated. Strong Jupiter forces debilitated Mars to co-operate with him. 2. When one planet is exalted and the other is debilitated in different sign : For example, Jupiter is posited in Cancer and Moon is located in Scorpio. Here Jupiter is exalted, while Moon is debilitated. Though in different signs, the debilitated Moon co-operates with the exalted Jupiter posited in Moon's sign Cancer. 3. When two planets are posited in different signs owned by a third planet : For example, Mercury is in Pisces and Ketu in Sagittarius, Which are owned by Jupiter. Here exalted Ketu forces debilitated Mercury to cooperate with him even though the two are inimical to each other. 4. Winner in planetary war dominates the loser : In planetary fight, the planet in the North with positional strength defeats the weak planet in the South. 18

For example, Mercury and Mars are in Virgo. Mercury is having positional strength in virgo, while Mars is weak there. Mars is in the sphere of influence of Mercury and will act according to the dictates of Mercury. 5. Exchange of signs by two planets : For example, The Moon is in Libra, while Venus is in Cancer. The Moon and Venus have exchanged their ownership signs and as such they will co-coperate. The question arises as to who will be the leader ? This is decided on the basis of planetary strength coupled with location in good or bad house depending upon the distance from the Ascendant. Here Moon is one sign before his debilitation sign (Scorpio) while Venus is located two signs before his debilitation sign (Virgo). Venus is, Therefore, stronger than the Moon, and acts as leader. 6. House-wise location of planets : For example, in a chart with Pisces Ascendant, Venus is posited in the 5th house. (Cancer) while the Moon is in the 8th house (Libra) . The 5th is a good house, while the 8th house is a bad one. Hence, Venus is more powerful than the Moon, and the latter will co-operate with Venus.

AIFAS Research Journal of Astrology l Jan.-Mar. 2014

a 7. Mutual aspect of planets : Suppose Mercury is in Gemini and Venus is in Sagittarius and these aspect each other. As Mercury is in own sign it is strong, while Venus is lacated in 8th from Taurus and in 3rd from Libra, and is, therefore, not happily placed. Hence, weak Veunus will co-operate with strong Mercury. Co-operation among three planets This occurs in the case of Shubh Kartari and Pap Kartari Yogas formed by the planets. A malefic planet hemmed in between two benefic planets is in Shubh Karari Yoga , while a benefic planet hemmed in between two malefics comes under Pap Kartari Yoga. In Shubh Kartari Yoga a malefic planet sandwitched between two benefics adopts their benefic nature, leaving aside its own malefic nature. Similarly, a benefic planet in Pap Kartari Yoga will adopt malefic trait of the other two malifics. Co-operation between Four Planets Maharishi Parasara has combined the positional strength (sthanbala) of planets with occupation of angles to bring out this co-operation in two ways - (1) positional strength of planets combined with angular points of the horoscope, and (2) positional strength of planets together with angular position among themselves. This is done through the occupation of planets in their exaltation, mooltrikona, or own sign and located in Kendra (angles) in the horoscope become Karaka (co-workers). A planet in the 10th house gets maximum co-operation from the planets in the 1st, 4th and 7th house. There is no question of enmity in such a situation. Planets with similar positional strength in angles to each other also have mutual co-operation. Here the leader is found on the basis of the Parasari principle that a house becomes strong depending on its distance from the Ascendant. Accordingly, the 10th house is stronger than the 7th, 7th is stronger than the 4th, and the 4th is stronger than the

1st house. Acharya Varaha Mihira by expanding the Parasari principle has formulated the theory of Karakas (co-workers) in Brihat Jatak (ch.XXII, S1.1-3). In Sloka 3, he tells us about friendship between one planet and another in the 10th of it, and both the planets have positional strength. Friendship and enmity of the planets have been ignored in Parasari relationships. Maharashi has included occupation of friendly signs in both cases and he has not restricted the same to the 10th only to the exclusion of the three other angular houses. Acharya Mantreswara in Phaladeepika (ch. VII,S1. 26-30) has combined exalted and debilitated planetary situation with angular position for enunciation of five types of Neechabhanga Raja Yogas which give high position and wealth to the native. The angles of a horoscope are the four walls preserving the life of the native and powerful planets posited therein show that these are strong guards to preserve the life, wealth and happiness. That is why, these are called Vishnusthana or power centres for preservation of the native. The Trines are the centres for exhibition of wealth and happiness for the benefit of the native and are called Lakshmisthana. Further, Maharishi Parasara specifically speaks of four types of planetary cooperation as under : 1. Mutual exchange of signs. 2. Mutual full sight aspect. 3. Occupation of a planet's sign and aspecting him therefrom, or aspected by him. 4. Occupation of the same sign. The highest co-operation comes out of the first relationship. The second relationship indicates a lesser degree of co-operation. The third and fourth relationship indicate progressively lesser co-operation.

a In combustion there is no scope for any co-operation either out of own accord or per force. A planet when combust is simply inactive, and the sun is all powerful to do good or bad to the native according to his nature and position. Maharishi Parasara has, however, exempted Venus and Saturn from the effect of combustion. The main reason behind the Parasari assertion is that Venus and Saturn are supreme maraka planets and have almost equal powers with the creative planet Sun. In Vimshottari Dasa, Venus has been allotted the maximum span of 20 years and Saturn comes next with 19 years. In longevity calculation, half of longevity of planetary dasas is deducted for all the planets in combustion., while in the case of Venus and Saturn, only a third of longevity has to be deducted. These factors possibly account for special position of Saturn and Venus. Maharishi Parasara also speaks of special relationship between Saturn and Venus. He says the results of Saturn will operate in Saturn Mahadasa and Venus Bhukti. He has stated that a planet in his own Bhukti gives the effect of planets in angular position. Venus is the owner of Libra 7th sign of natural Zodiac, while Saturn is owner of Capricorn the 10th sign of natural Zodiac. Thus Saturn and Venus hold angular position. Again, Saturn owns Aquarius (the 11th sign) and Venus owns Taurus- the 2nd sign, which are also angular position. The situation of retrogression, brings about opposition or non-cooperation between the Sun and the other planets. Seven Planets in Co-operation Maharishi Parasara, much before Jaimini, had stated that six planets co-operate with the prime mover Atmakaraka. In Ch.8 of Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra, Maharishi Parasara has explained his theory. A brief translation of Parasari slokas relating to Atmakaraka is an under : 20

"Of the seven karaka planets, Atmakaraka is the prime mover and, as such, he is called the king or controller of the native. As King is supreme in all spheres in his kingdom, likewise the life of the native is governed by the nature and strength of the Atmakaraka . As good or bad/nature of the king directs his ministers to reward or punish his subjects, likewise good or bad nature of the king directs his ministers to reward or punish his subjects, likewise good or bad nature of Atmakaraka forces other planets to reward or punish the native. As royal dispensation forces the subordinates to do good or bad to the subjects, the disposition of Atmakaraka compels other planets to fall in line with him." In simple terms, a benefic and powerful Atmakaraka forces all other planets to shower blessings on the native, while a malefic Atmakaraka commands other planets to create problems in the life of the native. The question arieses "How does the Atmakaraka dominate other planets?" we know from the Vedas that, under the superintendence and control of the Sun, other planets are moving round him. In the opening chapter of Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra, maharishi tells us that planets give good or bed effect to the natives according to their prarabdha karmas. There are two types of planets - the constructive or positive Sun group, and the other negative or destructive Saturn group. But in karaka concept all the planets act in friendship. Accordingly, Atmakaraka planet gets full co-operation from the other six in despensation of results during the native's present life. when the Atmakaraka planet is benefic according to good prarabdha karmas , the native will usually get happiness in life. When the Atmakaraka planet is malefic due to preponderance of bad prarabdha karmas , the native will usually suffer in life. q

Dr. Amar Aggarwal

Kaalsarpa yoga is said to be formed if all the planets are situated on one side of Rahu/Ketu axis and five houses on the other side of Rahu/ Ketu axis lie vacant. Strictly speaking Kaalsarpa Yoga does not find a place in classical astrological literature. How this yoga gained currency and gathered a sinister meaning is still a unsolved riddle. As far as the definition of Kaalsarpa Yoga as given above generally holds good but it does not mean that the said Yoga is so dreadful as projected by fellow astrologers so as to create a sense of fear in the minds of common men. Some of the learned persons opine that if all the planets are situated between Ketu and Rahu this yoga does not exist. But irrespective of whether the planets are between Rahu and Ketu or Ketu and Rahu the Yoga technically exists. The general belief is that Kaasarpa Yoga is evil restraining all other good yogas present in the horoscope and those having Kaalsarpa Yoga in their horoscopes will have set-backs and reverses in life. Some says that this yoga is capable of nullifying the most powerful dhanayogas rendering a rich man poor. But it is not so.

In interpreting Kaalsarpa Yoga, consideration should be given to the houses which are mainly involved, eg.1st and 7th, 2nd and 8th, 3rd and 9th, 4th and 10th, 5th and 11th, 6th and 12th. In each case the results could be different depending upon other horoscopic factors i.e if Rahu/Ketu axis involves 1st and 7th house it is not good for marital happiness but this is natural behaviour of nodes. In case lord of 7th house or Venus is powerful and placed in any of favourable houses the evil results should not be predicted.Hence one thing is very much clear that kaalsarpyog does not cause any debacle but it is node's natural behaviour. Had kaalsarpyog damaging effect then in presence of strong 7th lord or Venus these are nullified is an indication that kaalsarp does not harm but other planetary position in a horoscope can be the cause of harm. This rule is applicable to each and every house.

Kaalsarpyog has its bright shades also. It makes one industrious, hard-working and aware of one's own mental abilities. It raises the native to top position in one's respective field provided of course other Raja yogas are present in the horoscope. One thing worth mentioning is Rahu-Ketu axis favour rise in mundane life while Ketu-Rahu axis indicates elevation in spiritual matters. Note: After reading above two paras one can conclude that Rahu-Ketu-Rahu axis is not bad at all as it is being labelled. One thing is worth remembering that suffering due to any reason strengthens the mind and mellows one's outlook. This is blessing of Kaalsarp yoga. There are some important factors to be noted and given due importance: (1) In kaalsarpa yoga horoscope, the evil gets intensified if the lagna is between Ketu-Rahu. But in case lagna and its lord are strong and well placed these results should not be pronounced. (2) The evil gets neutralised if lagna is between Rahu-Ketu and lord of lagna is well placed in the horoscope. (3) The yoga can be considered as defunct even if a single planet is with Rahu or Ketu or out side the Rahu-Ketu-Rahu axis. Thus it is very much loud and clear there is no place for "aanshik kaalsarp yoga". 22

The original sloka refers to 'agrerahu' i.e Rahu must be the main or prominent planet meaning by the yoga is effective only if planets are between Rahu and Ketu. Another factor worth remembering is if the planet/planets associated with Rahu or Ketu are strongly disposed by being in its sign of exaltation or in its mooltrikona or in its own house the impact of Rahu and Ketu is nullified. The common fear that if Kaalsarpa yoga is fully present in the birth chart the effects of other good planetary combinations get nullified, whereas this statement does not have any logic since kaalsarpa yoga itself does not harm but problem arises when the other planet/planets are not in state of delivering good results. These are horoscopes having complete kaalsarpa yoga but the native to whom chart belongs have progressed in every sphere of life. Kanupriya Verma Water Resources: Water tanks are important in every house

South-west while both the sides right or left are apt for underwater tank. Northeast is an important place in home which is held sacred due to which it should be left vacant as much as possible and that is why underwater tank is recommended here. Avoid any water source/tank towards North-west or South-east. Over-head Tank Over-head tank should be installed in South-west direction only because South is inauspicious corner of house where heavy things can be placed to equate the energies. Over-head tank in this direction balance energies to bring health, prosperity and all-round peace. Avoid over-head tank in North-east as it leads to unnecessary expenses and losses.

and most houses install tanks random in direction wherever it is suitable. However water tanks have their own place and direction where installation of water resource is considered ideal. Vaastu tells some ideal directions to place water resource for better health, wealth and prosperity in house. Water is an important element in Vaastu and if its placement is not accordingly then it creates problems for occupants.

Water Tank: Vaastu Shastra recommends some principles for construction of water sump in the building. According to Vaastu, water elements should be available in the Northeast of the building. The following are some principles to build overhead and under ground water tanks. Under Ground Water Tank/Water Sum The best place for digging the sump is the

According to Vaastu North-east is the place for water resource but there are some conditions in which water has to be placed such as over-head tank and under-water tank. Both the tanks can be located here in the North direction but under some conditions of working which are: Unterwater Tank Underwater tank should be dug in Northeast direction while before digging a sump draw an axis marking from North-east to 24

a from the Northeast corner to Southwest corner. The sump should be dug to the right or left side of axis. The sump in East of

should be of black or blue colour as these colours absorb sun rays which create positive energy when absorbed in water.

Northeast is most beneficial and the sump in North of Northeast is also good.

Overhead tanks are an important feature of a building or a house. The water that is stored in the well or the borewell has to be pumped into the overhead tank, in order for it to be able to flow down into the house. According to Vaastu shastra, there are some set principles that should be followed during the construction of water sump in a building. The ancient sages had founded these principles and it is considered a science or an extension of architecture. If the water tank is placed in the right area, it would definitely lead to an increase in wealth, prosperity and knowledge.

Water sump should not be towards Southeast or Northwest. The sump in the Southwest is the worst. Avoid water sump at the centre of the house.

Tips For Overhead Tank •

The location or placement of the overhead tank is one of the main factors one should look into. Ideally, the overhead tank should be in the South West direction, second option is West direction.

For the overhead tank which is placed in the Southwest direction, it should be at least two feet over the uppermost slab. Due to water, the side becomes heavy which acts advantageous. However, make sure that there is no dampness. The best bet would be to place the tank on a slab higher than the slab of the building.

Though Northeast corner belongs to the element - water, it is not advisable to have a big overhead tank in the area. This is because the side should not be heavy under any condition. However, a small tank can be placed.

Overhead tank in the South-east corner is a bad omen and results in loss of wealth and accidents. The effect of overhead tank in the South direction is of medium effect. However, make sure that the tank is two feet above the

Overhead Water Tank Overhead water tank should be in the West or Southwest direction of the building as these are negative zones of the house. Due to water in the tank, it becomes heavy, creates a balance of energies in the house and proves to be useful. Overhead tank in West direction is also beneficial. Overhead tank should not be built in the Northeast of building. The tank in Northeast direction will make it heavy; which is a big Vaastu defect. It should not also be built in the South-east as it may cause loss of wealth and has adverse effect on health. Tank can be built in the Northwest of the house, but it should be small in size. Overhead water tank is not good at centre of house as it is a heavy structure and will make the centre heavy. Tank should be 2 feet above from the slab. There should not be leakage in overhead tank as it can cause outflow of money. Overhead tank should not be made of plastic. If it is of plastic, it

a slab of the roof and should not leak. •

Placing the tank in the West side (not Southwest) can also be considered as the direction belongs to Lord Varuna, lord of rains. In such a case, there is no need of a slab and the tank can be built over the slab as well.

there isn’t any water leakage leading to moisture production (dampness in the South-west corner is highly inauspicious). •

Although Northeast belongs to the water element, it is not good to place a hefty overhead tank in this region. Experts of Vaastu for house and office believe it’s a bad omen to make this corner heavy. However, it is okay to place a small tank here.

Avoid placing the overhead tank in the North-west direction. However, if the tank is of a small size, less height and situated at a distance of at least two feet from the North-west corner, it can be permissible. However, the water in the tank does not get used properly and finishes earlier than expected.

Never place the overhead tank in the middle. Remember, this place is known as the Brahmasthan. If there is load on the Brahma, life of the individuals living in the house would be unfeasible. One would also not like staying in the house for a long time.

Avoid overhead tanks made out of plastic. If you were to get one, make sure it is blue or black in colour, as darker shades absorb sunrays.

Make sure you have different tanks for different purpose. While drinking and cooking water can be from one tank, water for toilets and bathrooms can come from another one.

Placing a tank in the Southeastern corner is inauspicious and may lead to loss in finances and proneness to dangerous accidents.

An overhead tank in South has medium effect. However, you should make sure that the container is 2 feet above the roof slab and does not leak.

If you plan on installing a solar geyser it’s the best to place it above the overhead tank to make sure water flows properly.

26

Water tank systems are a great extension to architecture and have been helping people accumulate water for drinking, irrigation, livestock, food preparation since the beginning of civilization. The Guru’s believe that containers placed according to Vaastu ensure health and abundance for the inmates, helping them live a more fulfilled life. A tank located in the Southwestern direction must be at least 2 feet or 60 cm over the slab. This is to make sure

WELL AND TUBE-WELL: Water is one of the significant elements among Panchbhootas that constitute the entire concept of Vaastu-Shastra. The placement of well or tube-well in a house should be proper so as to gain profits and over-all prosperity. There are some set of

a causes various problems to occupants. The concept of septic individual tank in house was invented few decades ago and now it is a necessity. The pit for septic is usually dug in the ground which according to Vaastu should be done with caution as any discrepancy could lead to negativity thus making the environment polluted. Septic tanks should be made with utmost care as Vaastu tells some basic rules regarding construction and proper direction of septic tank in house: •

• •

Septic tank should be placed in such a way that it doesn’t face the directions like South-east, South-west and North-east. The ideal location for septic tank is North-west. The segregation of septic tank should be in a way that the water goes in Eastern side while excretion waste goes in western side.

Vaastu tells to make length of septic tank in East-West side while breadth in South-North.

It should always be constructed to the ground level and must not touch the main wall of house i.e. compound wall.

Make sure the drainage pipes in toilet and bathroom have their passage in the West or North-west. While to the contrary kitchen pipes should have their passage in the East or North.

Avoid drainage pipes in Southern portion of house and if it has been made then ensure that their passage should be made in East or North.

The main sewage can be located in North, East or West but avoid in South direction. Modernization has brought with it the need to construct septic tanks. While in the yesteryears, the concept of having a septic tank was not even thought about, leave about making one, in the present 28

generation, it has become a necessity. Septic tank requires a pit to be dug. The right placement of the septic tank is crucial. A faulty construction not only hampers the ground water sources, but also brings in negative energies to the house. The foul smell, coupled with solar and magnetic radiations, would enter the house, thus destructing it. To get some useful Vaastu tips and guidelines about the placement and positioning of the septic tank, read through the following lines. Tips For Septic Tank •

The location of the septic tank should be such that it should not face Southeast, Northeast or Southwest corner under any condition.

Dividing the North side into nine equal parts, the septic tank should be in the third part of the North-west direction.

Make sure that the septic tank does not directly touch the wall of the compound or the plinth of the house. The septic tank should be at least 2 feet away from the wall or plinth.

The septic tank is divided into three parts. Ideally, the water should be in the Eastern side and the excretion should be on the West.

In case you are facing scarcity of space, the septic tank can be placed in the Northern corner of the West side. However, make sure that it is about 2 feet away from the compound wall.

As per Vaastu Shastra, the length of the septic tank should be in the EastWest direction, while the breadth in the South-North directions.

Do not construct the septic tank higher than the plinth level of the building. The best bet would be to construct it at ground level.

In accordance with the Vaastu, the outlet of the septic tank should preferably be in the North or the West directions. q

Feng shui is the ancient Asian practice of object arrangement and space planning designed to bring balance, harmony and well- being to your environment. Its purpose is to enhance prosperity, creativity, health and romance. Feng shui fortifies a home with positive energy known as Chi. The attainment of positive chi is both an art and a blessing to those who manifest that chi. The word” Feng” means wind and “Shui” means water, each one associated with a good harvest and ultimate good health or good fortune. Valentine’s Day or any day- romance and passion are important. The first step in using Feng Shui to attract a partner or improve your love life is to find the relationship power spots in your home. Once you have located these areas, Feng Shui cures and enhancements can activate these areas and increase your love luck. The Feng Shui “ba – gua” is an energy map that divides any space into eight sections, each of which affects a specific aspect of life. Love and marriages are governed by “kun” gua, the southwest (SW) sector of the home. Your relationship power spots are the kun guas of your home, bedroom, and other main rooms. The best way to attract love is to adjust your environment accordingly. Sabby surroundings, piles of clutter, and selfabsorbed art work can actually drive cupid from your door. Feng Shui Bedroom:Do not make the mistake of extending the fast pace of your life into bedroom and its layout. The bedroom has a strong association with intimacy and romance

and must not contribute to fatigue and irritability. Remove inappropriate images that alludes to solitude, loneliness and conflict and disagreement. Clutter is anathema to good chi. De- clutter the bedroom to make room for positive vibes and new relationships. Do not let the entrance to your bedroom door be blocked with clutter since it is the area associated with opportunities. Breathe life into your relationship by clearing up the energy that is stuck with clutter. Make space in your bedroom if you are looking for a new relationship. Create mental and emotional space so as to promote improved mood and increased energy. Allow for a gentle flow of chi around the bedroom to nourish your love life. Windows and door must be positioned correctly. Use romantic art work and fresh or silk flowers to promote an ambience of love. Peonies symbolize fidelity and marriage and are ideal for Feng Shui bedroom decoration. Set them up in pairs and not singles. Round mirrors represent union and completion and are ideal for bedrooms. Pink is a colour that symbolizes love in Feng shui. You can have some items of pink or red while decorating your bedroom. Add candles to your bedroomthey are romantic and create a pleasant ambience and create heat- ideal to set your love on fire. Do not forget the sensual elements of soft music, massage oils and silky sheets and lingerie. Bedroom colors:The golden rule for Feng Shui bedroom colours is to avoid loud and overpowering colours. Violets, lavenders, yellow, blues, whites and grays can contribute towards

a making your bedroom soothing and restful. Since sleeping is a yin activity, the Feng shui bedroom colours must not be stimulating so as to prevent peace and rest. Sharp angles and geometric shapes can also be avoided in the bedroom. A warm soothing atmosphere can be crested with the right blend of colours, lighting and furnishings. Bedroom arrangement:Place the bed in a location that gives you clear sight of the door. Do not place the bed next to a window. Avoid placing mirrors opposite the bed. Place next to your bed instead of over it. Use soft lampshades so that the light in the bedroom is not harsh and powerful but subdued and calming. Ensure that bed is supported by a solid wall behind it. As per Feng Shui guidelines, do not have a bedroom layout that has beams or overhead cupboards over your bed. If you have an en-suite bedroom, you must keep the bathroom door closed at all times. As per Feng Shui, it is not auspicious to sleep with feet facing a door as it leads to outflow of energy. Do not have the head of the bed facing north. Octagonal or arched windows are ideal for Feng Shui bedroom arrangement. Work on the southwest corner of your bedroom layout for Feng Shui charms. Use aromatherapy or other positive vibes in that nook. Do not place computers, television or exercise equipment in that spot of your bedroom. Do not use the area under your bed for storage. Instead air space under your bed can give you restful sleep in the protective arms of positive chi. Feng Shui bedroom tips:• Avoid computers, television and video games in the bed room. Screen them off in armoires and behind screens if they need to find place in your bedroom. • Go in for a good quality bed. Choose wooden beds over metal beds since metal beds can conduct electricity, which may not be positive chi. 30

• Use soft drapes and soft relaxing bed sheets and comforters. • Avoid keeping large living plants in the bedroom. • Keep garbage out of the bedroom. • Do not place fish tanks and fountains in bedrooms. • If your bed faces an open doorway, a line of Feng shui crystal balls effectively creates an invisible, protective line of energy around the bed. • Close your curtains at night while you let the sun stream in during the day to bring in positive energy. Ensure those curtains moves easily are kept clean to allow fresh chi to come in. • Renew the chi in the bedroom by changing sheets regularly. It helps promote positive energy and maintain cleanliness too. • Add a touch of red – the color of love and warmth. A pillow in red or bright red candle can do wonders for your bedroom. • Use yellow, white and red lights to brighten up the southwest corners of your house to attract the energy of romance. • Placing natural quartz crystals in pair or hanging crystal fancy lights in the southwest corner will energize this corner of love. • A toilet in the southwest corner can be very negative on your love life. Hang a five rod wind chime above the toilet. • Enhancing love Feng shui increases love opportunities, but finding a perfect match depends on your karma. • If there is exposed beams in the southwest corner, hang tiny wind chimes to soften the killing chi of the edges. • Water in the southwest tends to cause arguments. • Jasper in the southwest corner activates romance luck. • Hanging a painting of high mountains in the southwest corner enhances

powerful chi of the big earth. On a window in the southwest corner hang a faceted crystal ball to capture the sunlight and create chi rainbows. In order to create smooth love chi between the partners, place red love knots on pictures of you together. Yellow flowers are for those seeking a serious relationship and white flowers are good for mature people in love. A pair of mandarin ducks placed in the bedroom symbolizes the happiness of lovers. The mandarin ducks signifies love, romance, devotion, fidelity, affection and partner loyalty. In real life, mandarin ducks are always seen as loving pairs. The symbols are often used to help singles find love partners in love and eventually marital bliss. Placed nearby their owners, the mandarin ducks emit strong love chi that makes you more loveable and attractive

to enhance your chances of finding partners. Never place water features on the right side of the main door as this lead to infidelity. Whether you’re looking for a new relationship or looking to enhance an existing one, Feng shui will power your intentions. Your environment is either supporting you or working against you. If you are in a relationship these tips will support you in creating the relationship more harmonious, and, if you are looking for a new partner, these tips will set the prospects. Number and a highly intuitive, shy and sensitive number. If we glance at her Planes of Expression, we find that the highest score is on Emotional Plane and not only this but the other planes have only Emotional Numbers. Besides that her outstanding challenges are also Emotional Numbers except the Second Challenge Number. It means that she is extremely sensitive, emotional and gets easily hurt for no cause or little cause. Her heart felt desire is to get married and lead a settled family life (Heart Number 6, Talent Number 11/2, Habit Number 11/2). But due to her nature of high sensivity and emotional vulnerability, it seems difficult for her to make her relationship long

She got married on Oct. 9, 1998. In 1998, her Event Number was 5 and letter A was operating meaning start of some new things in life. Besides that her Pinnacle and Personal Year were both7 supported by the subtle forces of Birth Force Period 5. So, time was quite favourable for marriage. But this marriage didn’t last long and she got separated on May 5, 2005. Let us prepare her chart with her new name after marriage to verify other events. 6 1 5

After marriage, the highest score became on Mental Plane given by an intellectual, perfectionist, introvert, analytical, introspective and spiritual number 7. But the numbers on other three planes were still emotional numbers especially the extremely emotional number 6 on Emotional Plane. So, inspite of trying her level best to avoid emotional problems by keeping herself aloof, engaged in spiritual pursuits etc., she could hardly avoid confrontations with her husband and his family members. However, Heart Number 8, Special frequency of 8, Habit Number 8, Special frequency of 1 and Birth Number and Name Number both 5 gave her stamina and courage. Although Problems in her marriage started from 1999 when Event No. 11/2 started but she tolerated till 2005 when she got separated from her husband. In 2005 her Personal Year 5 started operating. We have seen that whenever Event Number or Personal Year 5 starts operating, it brings

a Period 5. Besides that letter A and Z were operating which also signify the end of the old experience and a new beginning. See, whenever Karmic Event Number and Karmic Pinnacle operates, it gives trouble.

Event Number 14/5 signifying Change of place and beginning of new endeavour, she got another job in December, 2004. 3-Change of 3rd Job (2006): No sooner did her Event Number 13/4 start, she has to lose her job. 13/4 is a highly Karmic Number and whenever it starts operating it gives immense trouble, hardships and setbacks in different spheres of life. 4- 4th Job (2007):

Let us now see and analyze the professional journey of this lady.

Career st

1- Change of 1 Job (2001): She changed first job in 2001. At this point in time, her Event Number 11/2 was about to end and 14/5 was to start. So, she had the effect of both these Karmic Numbers. As, discussed earlier 11/2 is a Master Karmic Number known for giving mental, professional and emotional trouble while 14/5 is known for its changeability. The effect of ending Event number is felt even after 2-3 mouths of its and while the new number takes change gradually and slowly. At this time letters of name Y,A & O were in operation. There letters also signify change of place as well as new beginning. 2- Change of 2nd Job (2004): she left even her second job due to the confrountation in work place with her boss and due to some ill-mannered colleagues. Though she lost her job in Nov. 2004 but very soon she got another job in december. At this time also Event Number 14/5 was operating and was about to end. Besides that the letters of the name operating again were the same Y,A & O. So, she again was destine to lose job. However due to the combined effects of letters and

After losing the third job during the period of Event Numbers 13/4, she did not get new job immediately but her Karmic Event Number 13/4 made her to wait for about a year until the new Event Number 10/1 started. Ultimately she got a new job in 2007 when Event Number 131/4 ended and 10/1 started. Event Number 10/1 signifies beginning of a new experience and endeavours and is a good time particularly professional point of view. Her good period continued till the beginning of 2010. During these period of three years, she got the support of favourable Event Numbers 1,1 & 9. 5- 5th Job (2010): She left her fourth job also in July 2010. In 2010, her Pinnacle 16/7, Event Number 14/5 started. Both these Numbers are Karmic Numbers specially 16/7 is a highly Karmic Number which does not augur well and inflict all round maleficence and setbacks in life. So it posed problems in job while Event Number 14/5, Personal year 1 made her to think otherwise to shift the place and start afresh her professional journey.
