From The Editor's Desk

Depression : A Research Apart from physical ailments, the symptoms of depression are increasing day by day in today's world. This disease is related to psychology. The person who suffers from this disease feels melancholy, aloof, separated and lonely. He starts keeping silent, hiding his emotions, locking himself in the room and hardly takes any interest in social activities. According to a research, about 121 million people in the world are suffering from this disease. Especially, the females fall prey to the hazards of this disease. Generally, this disease engulfs the persons between 18 to 44 years of age very easily. Like several other diseases, this disease is also hereditary in nature. Depression can turn to be the last step of anxiety and tension propelling the sufferer to commit suicide. Impact of Depression on Life

• Depression directly affects the marital happiness. Due to the negative thinking, the person loses interest in life. Due to the lack of self-confidence the thought of failure always hovers into his mind. • The person suffers from lack of appetite. He likes the sweet dishes. It directly affects his mind. He always feels melancholy and instability in emotions. Such people start crying immediately, shows anger on futile matters, sudden outburst etc. • This disease reaches at its culmination at the age of 44 years. It may be due to the fact that in the middle age when the ambitions are not fulfilled he is unable to accept it. Impact of depression on different classes Depression amongst Females The females are more prone to this disease than the males. Main reason behind it is that the females have to discharge the dual responsibilities of household and professional commitments. Apart from it, the social environment is also one of the biggest factors of its occurrence. Due to excessive workload, the females fall into the trap of anxiety. As a result of this, there are the problems of mood swing, hormonal imbalance, increased diet, excess sleeping, putting on weight etc.

The percentage of depression increases considerably amongst the women after delivery. Depression amongst Males The main reason of depression amongst the males is the failure or not getting the desired success in work. Fatigue, insomnia, anger, aggression, violent behaviour, carelessness and addiction of drugs, liquor etc. are the symptoms. There is back pain, indigestion, irritability, lack of concentration, anger on trivial matters, anxiety etc. Suicidal tendencies start hovering into the mind. Depression amongst Adolescents The depression takes place amongst the adolescents due to excessive pressure and the wrong habit of the elders to compare the child with other children. Due to this, they start suffering from inferiority complex. Gradually retardation takes place in their study and they start consuming drugs and other intoxicants. The characteristics like anger, arrogant behaviour and bunking from the school manifest predominantly. Depression amongst elderly people With the growing age, there is decrease in income and physical power and there is increase in dependence on others as well as physical ailments which becomes the cause of depression. Astrological combination of depression Our horoscope is based on three main components. The first is Moon which is the significator of mind

and psyche. Second is Sun which is the significator of soul and our self-confidence while the 3rd component is Lagna, the significator of nature. If Lagna, Sun and Moon are afflicted then it is certain that the depression will take the person in its grip. The main Astrological combinations depression are the following :

of

1. Debilitated Sun in Lagna. 2. Placement of 4th Lord in a trik (6, 8, 12) house. 3. Placement of 5th Lord in a trik (6, 8, 12) house. 4. Placement of trik (6, 8, 12) lords in 4th and 5th houses. 5. Conjunction of Moon and Saturn.

Venus in Libra, Saturn in Aries, Rahu in Aries, Cancer and Leo Signs were the significators of depression. However, the placement of Sun and Mercury in Capricorn, Moon in Sagittarius and Aquarius, Mars in own sign, Jupiter in Aries and Taurus, Venus in Taurus and Leo, Saturn in Sagittarius, Rahu in Taurus, Scorpio and Aquarius nullify the element of depression. • Placement of natal Moon in Punarvasu, Ashlesha, Hasta, Shatbhisha or U.Bhadrapad Nakshatra produces depression while placement of natal Moon in Mrigshira, U.Phalguni, Moola, U.Shadha and Dhanishtha decreases the chances of depression. • Depression is found maximum in Libra Lagna. In Cancer and Virgo Lagna also the symptom of depression is found more while in Leo Lagna the symptom of depression is found the least.

6. Conjunction of Moon and Rahu/Ketu. 7. Placement of Moon in a Trik house. 8. Aspect of Saturn on Moon. 9. Mutual aspect of Saturn and Mars. 10. Aspect of Moon on Mercury. 11. Placement of Mercury in a Trik house and aspect of Mars on Mercury. 12. Placement of 8th Lord in Lagna. Research on Depression For the validation of astrological combinations mentioned above, we worked on the samples of 102 horoscopes of people suffering from depressionand 100 other horoscopes not suffering from it. The following conclusions were drawn : • Out of the above mentioned yogas, 2 and 4 as well as the last 4 yogas were found insignificant in causing depression. Only the conjunction of Moon with Saturn or Rahu or their association through aspect and placement of Moon in a Trik house indicated depression. Apart from it, the debilitated Sun in Lagna was also one of the most important reasons of depression. Other causes were the following : • Placement of Sun in Lagna; Mercury, Jupiter and Venus occupying the 12th house; Saturn and Rahu occupying the 2nd house increase the depression. Except Moon, other planets from Sun to Saturn occupying the 8th house were not the significators of depression. • Sun in Libra Sign, Moon in Cancer, Libra, Scorpio and Pisces sign, Mars in Leo and Sagittarius, Mercury in Aquarius, Jupiter in Leo,

• Moon was found afflicted in 6, 8, 12th house but most of the planets placed in 3, 11 and 12th house were found to be the producer of depression. Except Moon, none of the planets causes depression if placed in 8th house. Ayurvedic Treatment of Depression Consumption of apple reduces depression because it contains Vitamin B, Phosphorus and Potassium which produce glutomic acid. Cashewnut also reduces depression. It contains Vitamin B in abundance. Drinking of water containing the roots of asparagus provide protection from depression. The seeds of cardamom boiled in water or with tea prove highly beneficial in this disease. Drinking boiled water mixed with lemon, basil, sugar, cinnamon and ginger are also helpful. The use of black pepper, brahmi oil and turmeric reduces the seasonal depression. The use of Jatamasi herb strengthen the will power. Astrological remedies of depression The worship and donation of depression causing planets should be done. Apart from it, drink water in silver tumbler, wearing silver and donation of milk, sugar and rice on Monday do wonders in controlling the depression. Recite Om Namah Shivay, respect mother, mix cardamom in milk and drink at night, do pranayam daily, offer water to Sun, wear Rudraksha and Chandramani. All these remedies are quite helpful in the reduction of depression.       r

Evaluation of Planetary Strength By Sitaram Singh

A planet gives maximum result when located in a sign between 12°-18°, medium result between 6°-12° and 18°-24°, and very little result in the first and last 6° of a Sign. A planet, however, gives good result in the first Navamsha (0°-3°20') of Movable signs; 5th Navamsha (13°20'-16°40') of fixed signs and in 9th Navaamsha (26°40'-30°) of common Signs, as it attains Vargottam status there. A planet located in 12th to its sign does not give result of that house. Pakshabali Moon, unafflicted Mercury, Venus and Jupiter are progressively more Benefic in a Benefic Rashi (Sign). The Sun, Mars, Saturn and Rahu/ Ketu are progressively more Malefic in Malefic Rashi (Sign), except when located in their own or exaltation sign.

Planets give result during their DashaBhukti according to their location and strength in the horoscope. The Benefic and Malefic result of planets is not a constant factor. It depends on their sign, location and lordship of different bhavas (houses). Benefic aspect increases their good result, while malefic aspect reduces it.

The 6th, 8th and 12th Bhavas (houses) and their lords are regarded Trika (Malefic). The 8th lord is regarded the

a benefic planet remains mediocre. A Trikona lord when owning one of these houses does not turn malefic, though it loses some of its beneficence. A planet owning two signs primarily gives the result of its Mooltrikona sign at the beginning of its Dasha and the other Sign result in lesser degree in the second half of the Dasha.

A planet flanked by benefics on both sides (2nd and 12th to it) gives benefic result due to shubhakartari yoga.

A benefic or malefic planet as lord of kendra (houses 1,4,7 and 10) behaves as neutral, while as Lord of a Trikona (houses 1, 5, 9) always gives benefic result. A planet when lord of both a kendra and Trikona becomes yogakaraka (very favourable) even though a natural malefic, like Mars in Cancer and Leo Lagna and Saturn in Taurus and Libra Lagna. Lagna being both a Kendra and Trikona, its Lord always gives very good result. The Moon devoid of Paksha Bal and located in Aries or Scorpio Sign, becomes a strong malefic. It is less harmful when strong in paksha bal. The blemish of 8th house lordship and Markesh (Lord of 7th and 2nd Bhava) does not apply to the Sun and the Moon. The lords of 2nd and 12th Bhava gives result according to the location of their other sign in the horoscope and also according to the planet with which these conjoin. Planets in exaltation, Mooltrikona or own sign and located in mutual Kendras become supportive to each other. The planet in the 10th house is more significant. This is known as Karaka yoga. A natural malefic planet owning any of the 3rd, 6th and 11th houses becomes inauspicious, while under similar situation

Autoimmune Diseases & Astrological Causes By Ananya Sen

Human beings have suffered physically since the beginning of humanity. Medical system has improved with the passage of time. However, the changes in the life style have also brought in more and more complicated diseases. In the ancient times, Astrology was used to diagnose diseases much before those could happen and also to take remedial measures to ward off these diseases. Needless to say identification and treatment of various diseases based on planetary combinations in an individual horoscope are really very affective. Mention of such diseases and their cures is found in classical books like Bhrigu Samhita, Nadi Shastra etc.Classical books like Brihat parashar Hora Shastra, Sarvartha Chintamani, Jatak Parijat, Gadavali, Jatak Tatwa, Brihat Jatak, Saravali, Jatak Alankar etc. have lot of combinations to diagnose a variety of diseases including Tuberculosis, Cancer but we hardly find anything written on Autoimmune diseases. What is disease

Problems related to diabetes, menstruation, appendix, lung disorders, cough and vomitting are also caused due to weak Moon. Mars Blood, marrow, energy, neck, veins, genitals, neck, red blood cells, Anus, Female organs and body energy levels come under the rulership of Mars. Afflicted Mars give problems related to the karaka elements. Apart from these, brain disorders, injuries, toxicity, painful eyes, itching, blood clotting, females genital diseases, weak bones, tumor, piles, blisters, knee problems etc. are also caused due to weak Mars. Mercury Mercury is the karaka of chest, nervous system, skin, navel, nose, gall bladder, nerves, lungs, tongue, arms, face and hair. Afflicted Mercury gives problems related to its karaka elements. It also gives problems related to muscle and chests on being weakly placed in the horoscope. Due to afflicted Mercury, the native may also have to suffer from typhoid, madness, paralysis, seizure, ulcers, cholera, dizziness, etc.

Venus Venus is the karaka of Face, eyes, genitals, urine, semen, body, shine and luster, throat and glands. The native may have to suffer from related diseases during Venus’s dasha and antardasha. Venus is also the karak of vision. Thus, afflicted Venus gives eye disorders too. Genital diseases, diseases of the throat, body glitter loss, impotency, fever, gonorrhea, syphilis, rheumatism, blood loss, etc. are caused due to weak Venus. Saturn Saturn is the karaka of Legs, joints' bones, muscles, organs, teeth, skin, hair, ears, knee etc. Afflicted Saturn in the horoscope gives health complications related to its karaka elements. Physical weakness, muscle weakness, stomach pain, organ injury, disease of the skin and feet, joints' pain, blindness, hair be rugged, mental concerns, paralysis, deafness are caused due to weak Saturn. Rahu Rahu is the karaka of legs, breathing, neck, lungs etc. Afflicted Rahu give problems related to breathing, lungs, ulcer, legs etc. it can also cause cataract, blisters, stammer, spleen, etc. Cancer is also caused due to Rahu. Review determined. Involvement of planets in Autoimmune disease charts and here is what we observed in the charts of autoimmune patients : Lagna In Vedic Astrology, the Lagna (Sanskrit) or Ascendant, is the first moment of contact between the soul and its new life on earth. The head and the face are the main parts of the body denoted by the first house. It involves the complexion, cranium, forehead, brain, hair, pituitary glands etc. If the first house in our natal chart is weak then it results in a sickly constitution, thereby leading to headache, mental tension, paralysis, giddiness, wounds, scars, erratic activity of endocrine glands, derangement, brain fever, stupidity, nose bleeding and over all Immunity gets affected. This is what we found- If the first house in our natal chart is weak then it results in a sickly constitution, thereby leading to health problems and overall Immunity loss.57% charts have Venus or Moon, being watery planet they happen to be the Lagna lord and in 48% charts Mars/Sun being fiery planet are afflicting the lagnas owned by watery planets( Moon, Venus). Pitta Dosh Pitta is made up of the two elements fire and water. The most revered ayurvedic text, the Charaka Samhita, defines the characteristics of Pitta dosha: hot and a little oily (sahasnehamushnam); sharp, burning (tikshnam); liquid and acidic (dravamlam); always flowing in an unbounded manner (saram); pungent and sharp (katuhu). Pitta contains fire, but it also contains water. It is the source of the flame, but not the flame itself. Compare Pitta to gasoline – it is not hot to the touch, but it can be the source of flames, is made up of the two elements fire and water. As per ayurveda a skin disease happens due to imbalance of Fire and water element and are mostly pitta in dosha. Here is what we observed . In 67% charts it is seen that either the fiery planets( Sun/Mars)

are placed in watery sign( cancer, scorpio or pisces) or watery planets( Mo, Ve) are placed in Fiery Signs( Aries, leo or sagittarius). Airy Signs The airy signs in astrology are represented by Gemini, Libra and Aquarius. The most important element which keeps us alive is air. To keep a body alive it needs air. Our body needs oxygen to develop new cells hence it won't be wrong to say that these signs will play an important role in any cell related disease. Hence while considering the chart we have also tried to look for airy signs and their relation with 6th, 8th and 12th houses. Stiffness of joints as in arthritis( one of the type of autoimmune disease), flatulence, asthama( symptom in all auto immune disease) and nervous disorder usually manifest when there is excess of airy element. Lack of Air element may lead to difficulties in perception, tiredness, shortness of breath and lethargic movement, all these are actually symptoms of autoimmune diseases. Hence we cannot wave off the possibility of relation between airy sign and autoimmune diseases. Here is what we observed; In 80% of the charts it has been seen that the airy signs occupy one of the Trik Bhavas. Triksthana houses- 6th ,8th and 12th Mantreswara in his classical book phaladeepika says, matters pertaining to diseases should be predicted from the 6th, 8th and 12th house in a chart. Sixth house The Sixth House is commonly referred to as the house of health. Implicit in maintaining good health is the ability to cope up in the face of adversity and this theme rings truest in the sixth house. Looking at the 6th lord we can predict which body part of the native is under affliction. A protected sixth house gives less disease to a person. Eigth House Along with 6th, 8th house is also considered to be malefic. 8th house in Vedic astrology

Zodiac : The Abode of Cosmic Forces

By Dr. Manoj Kumar 'Maanasvi]

There are innumerable stars and countless solar systems existent in our universe, but here we will mainly focus on that part of the universe that man sees, feels and is influenced by. If you extend the sphere of the earth to infinity just like blowing a balloon, then the so formed imaginary sphere will be called ‘Celestial Sphere’ (the largest sphere in the image). The centre of the celestial sphere is the earth or the observer on the earth. The Northernmost region on the axis of the Earth is called ‘North Pole’ and the Southernmost region is called ‘South Pole’. On extending these two poles of the Earth to infinity, the point where the North Pole will touch the celestial sphere is called ‘Celestial North Pole’ and the point where the South pole touches the celestial sphere is called ‘Celestial South Pole’. Imagine a 2D line on the surface of the Earth which is placed parallel at an equal distance from the North Pole and the South Pole on the Earth’s surface, i.e. this imaginary line divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern parts (Hemisphere) and this line is called ‘Equator of the Earth’. If this line is extended into infinity, it will touch both ends of celestial sphere and such an imaginary line in celestial sphere is called ‘Celestial Equator’.

circle is called ‘Celestial Equator’, i.e. it is placed parallel at equal distances from the Northern Celestial Pole and from the Southern Celestial Pole and divides Celestial Sphere in two equal parts.

Now, if we walk on this line, we have to walk around the celestial sphere as celestial sphere is round in shape. The so formed

Ecliptic Sphere Earth revolves around the Sun and is tilted on its axis. Till 01 January 2016, this tilt was 23°26’4.17” (approximately 23½°). As explained above, an imaginary line on earth’s surface that divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern parts (Hemisphere) is called ‘Equator of the Earth’. As per definition, the latitude of Equator is 0°. An 21 | Apr.-Jun. 2018

imaginary line at 23½° North to the Equator is called Tropic of Cancer. An imaginary line at 23½° South to the Equator is called Tropic of Capricorn which can also be written as 23½°S. Approximate length of earth’s equator is about 40075 kilometres. The circumference on earth’s equator is more than other areas. The diameter of the earth on this line is 12749 kilometres.

earth to infinity is called ‘Ecliptic Sphere’. The earth is tilted on its axis, so it will be tilted on ecliptic also and this tilt is called ‘Obliquity of Ecliptic’. As described above, it was 23°26’4.17” (about 23½°) as on 01 January 2016. See the following image:

The diameter between the poles is 12713 km, i.e. earth is a bit flat on its poles. This is the reason that we do not call the earth a circle, oval etc. but a Geoid.

In astrology, we use geo-centric system which is explained ahead. That is why, this path is also called Sun Path or Ravi Vritt etc. because the Sun appears to be moving from the Earth.

The unit to measure flatness is called ‘eccentricity’ and the earth’s eccentricity is 0.01671123 (where 0 is full round and 1 complete flat).

Equinoxes and Solstices The Earth rotates on its axis and also revolves around the Sun. On this orbital path, it passes through four main points:

After the introductory information related to Earth, it is now easy to understand the ecliptic. The imaginary circle that would be formed when we extend the orbital path of 22 | Apr.-Jun. 2018

Review 20-21 March: Maximum sunlight falls on Equator. So, all latitudes (except the North and South pole) get sunlight and due to this the length of day & night are equal. This position of the Earth is called ‘Vernal Equinox’. After this point, the length of the day starts increasing day by day. In Western Astrology, this point is considered to be the beginning of the Zodiac and Aries sign begins from this point in Sayana System. However, in Vedic astrology Nirayana System is followed in which Aries begins few days after Sayana Aries. The reason behind this is that in Nirayana, Aries starts 180 degree opposite to Chitra (Spica). Both these methods are explained in the article.

this period on North Pole whereas South Pole has night. From 23 September to 21 March, sunlight falls on South Pole and South Pole has day during this period whereas there is night on North Pole during this period.

21 June: When Earth reaches at this point during its orbit around the Sun, maximum sunlight falls on Tropic of Cancer (23½°N). This point is also called ‘Summer Solstice’ or Sayana Cancer Ingress. This is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere (shortest in the Southern Hemisphere); it also means that the night is the shortest of the year.

According to the Nirayana system, this equinox point is not stationary. If it is seen with respect to one stationary star, it moves every year to its West. With respect to the stationary star, the earth shifts 50.29 seconds West compared to its previous year’s position.

22-23 September: Maximum sunlight falls on Equator. So, all latitudes (except the North and South poles) get sunlight and due to this the length of day and night are equal. This position of Earth is called ‘Autumn Equinox’. After this point, the length of the day starts decreasing day by day. This is also the first point of Libra in the Sayana system.

Sayana and Nirayana Methods Sayana method is used in Western countries, whereas in India the Nirayana method is used. Sayana literally means ‘with Ayana’. In Sayana method, Aries begins with the vernal equinox. Every year around 20/21 March, the Sun reaches this point (seeing from earth) and keeps moving with its daily average speed of 1° and completes one sign (30°) in one month.

In Vedic Astrology, which follows the Nirayana method, the Aries point is determined by the constellation Chitra (Spica) because it is a star and hence stationary. In Nirayana, Aries always begins from the point which is 180° from the star Spica (on 1 January 2016, it was 179°59’02”), which is why it is also called the Chitrapakshiya Ayanamsha. This movement of equinox is called Precession of Equinox.

21-22 December: When the earth reaches at this point during its orbit around the Sun, maximum sunlight falls on Tropic of Capricorn (23½°S). It is also called ‘Winter Solstice’ or ‘Sayana Capricorn Ingress’. During this time, sunlight falls diagonally in the Northern Hemisphere. The duration of this day is the shortest in the Northern Hemisphere (longest in the Southern Hemisphere), i.e. the duration of night is the longest. The duration of day and night on poles is of six months each. Due to earth’s axial tilt, the North Pole faces the Sun from 21 March to 23 September, so sunlight remains there during this period. Hence, there is day during

We follow Nirayana method in Vedic Astrology whereas the Sayana method is used in Western Astrology. The word Nirayana

RESEARCH JOURNAL literally means ‘without movement’ because this first point of Aries is stationery with respect to star Spica. That is why, it is called a fixed zodiac or a sidereal zodiac whereas Sayana system is called a movable zodiac. The difference between these starting points Aries in Nirayana and Sayana is Ayanamsha. Ayanamsha separates Sayana method and Nirayana method from each other. In the above images, both Sayana and Nirayana Aries beginning points are shown. The Ayanamsha is the difference of longitudes between Sayana and Nirayana, i.e. Nirayana longitude + Ayanamsha= Sayana longitude Sayana longitude – Ayanamsha = Nirayana longitude The longitudes of planets are calculated from the Vernal Equinox (Sayana) and after adjusting Ayanamsha, we get Nirayana longitudes. Nirayana longitudes and Lahiri’s longitudes are same. Now, the question arises which method is correct? Till date, scholars have not reached on any consensus. Dr. B. V. Raman has used Sayana more whereas Mr. K. N. Rao has been a supporter of Nirayana and has narrated many examples successfully in his book “Jyotish, Prarabdha and Kal Chakra”. We also find Nirayana method correct as in Sayana method, the position of planets is with respect to Sun which is better for determining seasons etc., but as we live on the earth, it seems more logical to take longitudes with respect to the earth. Precession of Equinox During the study of stars and planets, sages and astronomers concluded that the longitudes of all the fixed stars are increasing from the vernal equinox point, i.e. their position is changing. As it was happening with all the stars, it would have been illogical to assume that all stars are moving with the same speed. It was also concluded that latitudes (the angular distance of celestial body on ecliptic) of stars and planets were not changing. Thereafter, they reached at

Review the conclusion that the Equinox is moving, i.e. vernal equinox is shifting backwards due to which longitudes of all the stars are changing. This movement of equinox point is called the Precession of Equinox. Now, the question before scholars was, why this movement is happening? They found a logical and valid answer which states that the earth is affected by gravitational force of the Sun and the Moon and this affects the axis of the earth. Further, the earth has geoid shape i.e. its poles are not completely round and is bulged at the equator. All these parameters and circular motion (rotation on axis) create a wobbly motion on North Pole of ecliptic. This results slow regression of the intersection point of celestial equator with the ecliptic. According to the Nirayana method, the Aries point was 180°00’03” from Chitra constellation on 22 March 285. In this year, Sayana Aries point was the same. It means that both Aries points were same. Now as per Nirayana method, this point has been shifting 50.29” per year Western as compared to the previous since 285 AD. Till 1 January 2016, it has shifted 24°04’49” to its West, which can be confirmed by the ephemeris. It also means that this gap will continue to grow over time, and after about 24,000 years (360° - 24° = 336° => 1209600” / 50.29”), Sayana and Nirayana Aries points will meet again at vernal equinox like in 285 AD. Geo-Centric and Sun-Centric Systems Human beings live on the earth and in astrology we study the impact of celestial objects on the human life and the astrological predictions are made assuming that the native is in the centre of the universe. It means that all the planets influence the native from all sides as per their positions and motions. This system is also called a Geo-centric system. Before astronomer Copernicus’ line of thought came into existence, it was believed that the earth was stationary and all the planets including the Sun revolved around it. But it

Review has now been universally accepted that the Earth revolves around the Sun just like other planets. Students may question the validity of the Geo-centric system. In the Geo-centric system, the observer is in the centre of the Earth and the longitudes of planets in the zodiac are from observer’s position and these longitudes of planets are the basis of predictive astrology. In the Sun-centric system, the Sun is considered as the centre of the universe and the planets revolve around it. This is more valid for astronomers because they need longitudes of planets keeping Sun at the centre. In Sun-centric system, observer is at the centre of Sun and longitudes are measured from centre of the Sun. In this system, no planet can ever become retrograde as Sun is stationary and observer is at the centre of the Sun. So, the planets would never appear to be moving backwards, just like Moon is always seen to be in direct motion from earth. Zodiac Draw a hypothetical line at 8° North and 8° South from the Ravi Marg or the Ecliptic. We get a strip of 16° (0°-8° North and 0°-8° South). Some scholars consider it 9° instead of 8°. The entire region of this 16° wide and 360° circular band is called the Zodiac. It is also called Signs of Zodiac.

Horizon, Zenith and Celestial Meridian The meridian line passing through observer’s head is called Zenith. A great circle on the celestial sphere passes through the celestial poles and observer’s zenith. This is important for calculating Xth cusp. This is the reason that there is only one ‘Xth cusp Table’ for all places of the earth. Horizon is the boundary where the sky seems to meet the ground or sea. In astronomy, it can be defined as the intersection on the celestial sphere of a plane perpendicular to a plumb line. The higher the observer, the lower and more distant is his visible horizon.

From the perspective of the predictive astrology, the position of all related planets, constellations and satellites are in this band. If we divide this Zodiac into twelve equal imaginary parts, then each part would represent a Zodiac Sign: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. The Zodiac Signs had been named as per the shape formed by group of stars. These shapes are depicted in the image below:

All the above three concepts can be easily
