Health & Palm

O

ur hand is the reflection of our body. This knowledge is especially used in acupressure system. The experts of acupressure treat different ailments of our body by applying pressure on specific points on the palm. It is so possible because the different organs of our body are attached with our brain and the nerves from the brain have connection with our palm. In this way, all the body parts are connected with the palm.

Every organ of our body is depicted on palm by some way or the other. With the analysis of spots and other signs formed on the different regions of the palm, we can determine the impending health related issues. Generally, the formation of any spot or any cross or sign at any point on the palm indicates the possibility of some ailments in near future in that specific zone. Spot, chain, island, point and net are the prominent amongst signs. According to the place on the palm where these signs manifest we get the disease, eg. Heart line denotes problems with heart and the other principal organs attached to it like lungs, liver etc. In the same manner, Health line or Age line indicates our stomach, intestines, kidneys and bladder etc. Brain line represents our mental glands, diabetes and thyroid. Mount of Venus is considered for genital organs. Fingers and thumb of our hand also play important role in knowing the different diseases in our body.

Spot – Spot is not considered auspicious in Palmistry.

It denotes diseases. Spots are of various colours. If a red spot is present on Brain line then you may get hurt. Spot on Health line may make you suffer from fever and other physical problems. Blue and black spot on palm may give hidden problems. Spot on Life line indicates ailments in the year its position represents.

Chain – This is generally found at the end point of Life line and tells about the problems during the old age and death. If this sign is formed in near proximity to Life line and Brain line then the memory power gets weakened in old age. If this sign is seen on Heart line then it indicates heart problems. Island – Formation of many islands on the palm result

in weakness of mind, mental sickness and irritation. If island sign is appearing clear and developed on Heart line then you may suffer from heart diseases and during such condition you may have heart attack also. Appearance of this sign on Brain line may land you in mental problems and continuous headache.

Point – Point is often the indicator of temporary

ailments. Shining red point on Health line gives fever. Presence of point on Life line may give birth to chronic diseases. If this point is on marriage line then there are the possibilities of heavy injuries on head and it also makes the heart weak. Black point in Venus area may give birth to the possibility of diseases in genital organs.

Net – If the vertical lines are intersected by the horizontal lines then net like sign is formed. This sign also plays important role in determining diseases through Palm lines. If this net is present in Mars area then the person suffers from mental instability and restlessness. Net on Ketu area may result in small pox or skin diseases. Indicators of various health problems on palm: Heart disease – If there is crisscross Heart line or it is thin then there is always a possibility of heart disease. Island or circle on Heart line, yellow colour on Brain line below Saturn area or black point in Mars area on the vicinity of Age line or black mole on Heart line indicate sudden fainting and heart disease.

Intestinal Disease – If the lines have yellow colour, nails are blood red, spotty and Mercury line is broken then the person may suffer from intestinal diseases. Spinal Disease - If there is island on Heart line below Saturn then the person may suffer from the

Disease

Developed Saturn area with many lines, long & zigzag Mercury line, long second phalange of the fingers indicate the possibility of dental disease.

Kidney Disease – White spot on Brain line near Mars and broken Heart lines on both the palms indicate sufferings from kidney diseases. In case of anaemia the hand starts turning yellowish. Eye diseases – If there is mole on Mars mount below Mercury then there is possibility of eye related diseases. Blood Pressure – If Mars

is good and there is fault in Brain line then the person is irritating and has angry nature. Such people have the possibility of high blood pressure .

Gynae Disease – If there are

thick horizontal lines on Mars and if Saturn is depressed then the woman may face troubles related to uterus and pregnancy.

Lungs Disease - If the Life line is thin in comparison to all other lines and hand is hard and heavy then there may be the diseases related to stomach. If hand is soft then the lungs are supposed to be weak. Bronchitis – If Brain line is

approaching Moon mount, other lines are faulty, Moon is developed, Heart line and Brain line are well apart then there may be bronchitis or asthma.   r

The knowledge of Palm lines can be utilized for the determination of health problems.

Vedic Astrology and Law of Karma By Sitaram Singh

I

ndian Astrology is derived from Vedas and is called 'Veda Chakshu', or 'the Eyes of Vedas'. It is a perfect divine science whose practitioners in Kaliyug (present era) are imperfect. This divine science has been passed down by our visionary Rishis for understanding the reason of human sufferings and how to minimise it to make it bearable through simple Shastrik Upayas (remedial measures). The origin of Astrology dates back to the creation of this world. Maharishi Garga tells us that this divine science was propounded by the Creator himself, and Lord Brahma handed it down to him at the time of creation of the universe. Other Rishis learnt it from Maharishi Garga. The Greeks, Babylonians and Egyptians had also devised their own system for deciphering unknown future, and incorporated the tenets of Indian Astrology taken back by foreign tourists from India. Thus, Astrology has been in vogue since ancient times both in the East and the West. The planets are constantly transiting the Brahmand (sky) and directly affect the human beings. (Yat Brahamande tat pinde). For knowing their exact location on the date, time and place of birth of an individual, and during transit in future, the 360째 Zodiac has been divided into 12 sectors of 30째 each called Rasis. These Rasis encompass 27 Nakshatras having a span of 13째20' each, and each Nakshatra is further divided into 4 padas of 3째20'. The prediction is based on the analysis of seven

planets and two Chhayagrahas - Rahu and Ketu, though only mathematical points, who due to their notable effect on human lives have been accorded the status of planets by our Rishis. The 9 planets are assigned 3 Nakshatras each, located at fixed sectors in the Zodiac. Calculation of time is done through the most popular Vimshottari Dasa-bhukti system of the planets. Besides Lagna chart, subsidiary varga charts are also prepared for deeper analysis of specific aspects of human life, like D-2 for wealth, D-4 for comforts and prosperity, D-7 for children, D-9 for marriage, D-10 for service/profession, D-24 for education, etc., for which the exact moment of birth is absolutely necessary. The planets according to their inherent nature are divided into benefics - Jupiter, Venus, Pakshabali Moon and unafflicted Mercury and malefics Saturn, Mars, Rahu and Ketu. Weak Moon and afflicted Mercury are also treated as malefics. Sun is the King of our solar system and is designated as 'cruel' planet. Rahu and Ketu are considered like Saturn and Mars respectively (Shanivat Rahu, Kujavat Ketu). As a fundamental rule of analysis, the association and aspect of malefics spoils the result of benefic planets, and the influence of many malefics further increases the evil effect. In certain situations Rahu and Ketu behave as Yogakaraka and give very good and favourable result to the individual.

Review Maharishi Parashara tells us in Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (Ch.II) that "Janardan (God) himself sits in different houses of the horoscope in the form of planets to dispense the result of prarabdha (result of past karma) in the life. The planets are only indicators of what effect (good or bad) and when one would experience it in this life. These do not cause any event. Thus one of the meanings of 'Astrology' is "The Message of the Stars'. With the help of time tested principles of Astrology, the location of planets in the horoscope and their effect on the individual, an astrologer deciphers the result of actions in past life and on that basis forecasts the future for the guidance of the individual. For example, if an individual had maltreated his wife and children in previous birth, then in this bith the 7th house (spouse) and 5th house (children) in his horoscope are afflicted by the location or aspect of

malefic planets on these houses, and he repays in this life by facing problems in that respect. A proficient astrologer through complete analysis of the horoscope helps to dispel the fears in the queriest's mind and prepares him to face the future with confidence. Astrology gives mental strength to feeble and weak minded individuals, solace to the depressed, peace to the anxious and worried, and steadiness to those who have wavering and vacillating mind. An astrologer helps individuals to get a glimpse of the unknown future, and the knowledge of their destiny, which stands in good stead in surmounting the difficulties and sufferings to be faced in life and make it easy. Astrology explains that success or failure in this birth is related to our karma in the previous life. Man or woman, rich or poor, every individual has to face problems in life. The present sufferings are the result of paap (evil deeds) committed in previous birth. Goswami Tulsidas ji has expressed this universal law in Sri Ramcharitmanas in the following way :

deZ iz/kku fo'o dfj jk[kk tks tl djfg lks rl Qy pk[kkAA The word 'Karma' is derived from Sanskrit root 'Kri' which means 'action or deed'. Each and every mental or physical action comes under Karma. RESEARCH JOURNAL gains and losses are the result of some definite cause of action in the previous life which we do not remember now. Good luck or misfortune is solely governed by the scientific law of causation or Karma. God is neither partial nor unjust, but a loving father of all. Everything is the result of one's own action in the previous birth. Karma and rebirth are like the seed growing into a tree, which again bears fruits yielding more seeds, and the cycle goes on. The seed is the karma and growth of tree is life. Astrology clearly explains what Karma the individual would have performed in his previous birth and what result he will experience in this birth and when. Thus man is the maker of his own destiny. Nobody else can interfere with it. In this connection, Maharishi Veda Vyas makes an emphatic statement through Prahlad in 'Shri Vishnu Purana' :

Are You a Lucky Person

By R. Subramanian

If a person gains steady improvement, importance in society then others call him a "Fortunate, lucky" individual. In Sanskrit it is called "Athrishtam" literally meaning "That cannot be seen" but brings name and fame. The opposite of this is "Dur-Athrishtam" or misfortune/ill luck as we call it.

L

et us first see what the science of Numbers, 'Numerology' has to say about luck/fortune. The lucky persons are differentiated and distinguished by their 'Birth dates'. Any person can be born between dates. 1 to 31 only. This birth data can be converted into "Birth Numbers". For example if a person is born on 27th of any month, his birth number is 9 (2+7). We can convert other birth dates into basic birth Numbers of 1 to 9, which essentially represent the Nine planets of our universe. Persons with birth numbers 3,6,9 are considered to be the most fortunate, first grade. These persons with less effort, work are likely to gain more rewards,

benefits in life. Persons with birth numbers 1, 2, 5, 7 are deemed to be fortunate of the second order. These persons are likely to be rewarded, benefitted corresponding to their effort, work. Persons with birth numbers 4, 8 are considered to be lucky persons of the third order. These persons in spite of putting more effort are likely to get less benefits in life. We are not responsible for our birth; It is considered God's gift. Birth under less fortunate numbers cannot be avoided. But such persons need not get discouraged. They shall never strengthen their numbers by their actions. They shall never carry out important activities on numbers ending 4 or 8. Nor they live in houses/ use vehicles with less lucky numbers. Instead they shall select the numbers ending as 3,6,9 for all their activities so that they are deemed lucky. This is the first step towards "Athrishtam", true to the proverb "By Wisdom one can overcome fate/destiny" one can verify and confirm the above in life himself. Secondly let us see what "Astrology" has to say about 'Athrishtam". In any one's birth horoscope, the Janma lagna, first house or Ascendant is considered the most important house. For the twelve different lagnas or ascendants, Astrological texts has prescribed certain yogakaraka planets or luck/Athrishtam giving planets. These yogakaraka planets should be strong in one's horoscope to derive maximum benefits in one's life. That is, the planet should be 1. In exalted position 13 | Apr.-Jun. 2017

2. Placed in own or friendly sign 3. Vargottama position that is in same house in both Rashi and Navamsa Charts 4. Aspected or Associated with benefic planets 5. 5. Hemmed in between benefic planets etc. On the other hand, the yogakaraka planet shall never get weakened in one's horoscope that is associated or aspectd by malefic planets in inauspicious houses of 6,8,12 positions from the Janma lagna, in debilitated/unfriendly houses etc. The respective results are likely to happen during the main or sub periods (Dasa, Bhukthi) of the yoga karaka planets. Further certain auspicious Raja yogas shall be evident in one's birth horoscope for rapid advancement in life/society. Notable among them are the pancha mahapurusha yogas, dharma-karma

Review

Adhipathi yoga, Gaja kesari yoga, neecha bhangha raja yoga etc. Lastly let us examine the palmistry point of view. Of the many lines present in the palm of one's hand, the fate line assumes greater importance, fate line commences from the wrist position, travels up straight and reaches upto the Saturn mount on the middle, long, finger. If the fate line is long, firm, continuous, he is considered a fortunate person. Besides the powerful fate line, a star figure is observed on the hand, he shall rise in position and reach greater heights. If the fate line commences from the middle of the palm he gets recognition late in life. If the fate line is not strong, with breaks, with islands or square on hand, an ordinary life is evident. So far we have seen how "Fortune" of a person is defined. Persons with less fortune can also get better benefits by resorting to gemstones (wearing precious stones), mantra (Reciting divine names) and oushadhi (resorting to medicines) as prescribed in the vedic scriptures.               r

The Astrology Paradigm as a Theory of Intelligence By Erwin Rimban

T

he astrology natal chart is a very powerful way of understanding the nature and dynamics of multiple intelligences. Let us see how it explains very comprehensively the various intelligence models currently being presented by science, education and psychology. Aries is a model of thermodynamic intelligence. It is the level where energy is trying to understand itself, its capabilities and potentialities and its ability to affect its environment. We must understand that the Aries energy pattern represents the lowest stage in the Involution of EnergyMatter-Spirit. Therefore, it is the stage of maximum ego. The energy pattern is totally egocentric and defines its narratives and environmental dynamics through the perspective of the self mostly. This means the lower self or the ego. On the other side of the coin, this singular focus of the Magician archetype brings with it the singularity of determination that characterizes this soul phase. The avatar of thermodynamic intelligence

has maximum access to the energy population set at its disposal. Thus, he is perfect for arenas where can demonstrate this thermodynamic access. In sports, we can clearly see the excellence of the Aries archetype. As well as other areas where the self, meaning the ego, competes in some way. This archetype thrives in competition. Taurus is a model of biological intelligence. It is the level where the energy has learned to encase itself successfully in various case sheaths or vehicles of expression. This particular mode of existence has its advantages. The monad has an additional form of protection against the dangers of material universe existence. However, it may also come to exalt the vehicles of expression themselves and give them operational control of its narrative. This is the greatest danger of encasement. To counteract this existential dilemma, souls who are exploring the pleasures and varieties of the material realm are given a unique “gift.” This is of course, the “Wisdom Quest!” The memory of light, the evolutionary spiral, the graduation process. Much has been written about the soul-body dichotomy throughout the ages. The important thing to remember is that the soul and the body are not enemies, have never been enemies. But both must remember their “existential stations.” The soul is the avatar of levity; the body is the avatar of gravity. And their conversation defines “life” in the material universe. This conversation is, and has always been, a crucial learning paradigm

in the maturation of a monad. Gemini is a model of cognitive intelligence. This is the soul phase which is an information processor par excellence. This energy pattern assimilates, absorbs, processes, plays with, regurgitates and expresses all forms of information constructs. The speed of information processing is also a hallmark of this energy pattern. This is the reason why so many Gemini personalities are charming, witty, smart and intelligent. They absorb information at a prodigious rate. But since, most information will be in the translation format of the material universe, the Gemini personality is known to be very practical. He prioritizes those informational schemes that can promote his own egocentricity. Why? Because he has not learned to consider the true needs of his environmental variables. His focus still remains at an egocentric level, a legacy of the previous two phases. To travel is also to assimilate new information, so the Gemini personality loves to travel in many ways and tends to sample and explore new dimensions of experience every now and then. The absence of new information would be tantamount to death for this energy pattern. This energy phase can thus be understood as an avatar of local novelty, the type of novelty that titillates a personality, in contrast to Novelty, which is a civilization-changing parameter.

Review Cancer is a model of gestational intelligence. In this soul phase, the energy pattern learns to incubate all that it knows, to access realms beyond those of the conscious processing level, in order to give birth to something new later on. In the Cancer phase, we learn that growth can also occur in phases of sublimation. The energy of sublimation is a different order of processing. It occurs in dimensions of mystery in contrast to the previous stages where growth is palpable. In order for incubation to truly succeed, all of the necessary materials must be present, and in the right amounts and frequencies, and in the most appropriate contexts and environments. The Four of Swords in the Tarot is a fractal illustration of the power of incubation. It tells us the lesson that all elements must be present in a conglomeration, for selforganization to occur and give rise to new narratives and new energy patterns. Cancer is a stage of death, as well as a stage of growth. Leo is a model of centrifugal intelligence. The energies and potentialities accumulated in the previous stages are transmuted, incubated and are born anew into a new form. This form has a self-organization and singularity potential that is different from the previous stages. Thus, Leo can be said to be the first truly emergent form after the Aries energy pattern. This also imparts to us the realization that the progression from Aries to Cancer is a series of permutations of the original creative inspiration that occurred with the birth of the Aries archetype. In the Leo phase, the soul has enough strength to begin to battle with the propensities of the vehicular expressions. This personality realizes how strong both of the existential modalities are. There are many ways to

Review illustrate this fractal strength. One is to radiate it to its environment, and that is why the Leo archetype is creative, artistic and dramatic. He is well suited to those realms where he can radiate his powers, whether for good or ill. Another point to understand about the Leo phase is that it is the period where the soul is beginning to realize the necessity of attaining a successful negotiation of the body-soul dichotomy. In the Tarot, this stage is aptly illustrated by the Strength card. But this archetype does not exist in a vacuum. Long before the soul either rises in virtue or regresses to depravity, the seeds are already sown in the insightful archetype of the Lovers. The Lovers archetype sets the stage for the critical decision point when the soul begins to acknowledge the need to “return Home. The Lovers archetype therefore is a stimulus to the planting season that is represented by the Leo energy pattern. Virgo is a model of isomorphic intelligence. The excellence of the previous stage is taken further and imposed not only on self but on the ability to manage the immediate necessities of life in the material universe. This phase also represents a culmination of the strengths of the previous stages. The thermodynamic intelligence of Aries is refined into a fire that creates rather than destroys. The biological intelligence of Taurus is refined even further into understanding the intricacies of habitats, environments and contexts. The cognitive intelligence of Gemini is refined into a penetrating ability to get into the heart of a concept, issue, modality or occupation. The gestational intelligence of Cancer is refined into the ability to be consistently creative regardless of the vicissitudes in the life of the person. The centrifugal intelligence of Leo is refined into the ability to perform isomorphically at a high level, regardless of the plenitude or scarcity of environmental inputs and conditions. Isomorphic intelligence is the ability to perform consistently at a high level regardless of environmental conditions.

There are certain personalities which can produce and perform only in the presence of the best conditions. The Virgo personality, on the other hand, thrives in almost all conditions. This level of endurance and consistency is the highest among the first six personality types. In addition, this energy pattern is known for its penchant for precision, exactitude and accuracy, which are gifts of its isomorphic intelligence. Libra is a model of symmetrical intelligence. The appreciation of symmetry is at its highest in this energy pattern. Recalling the raw power of Aries thermodynamic intelligence, the Libra energy pattern attempts to balance this by emphasizing the symmetrical operations between two interacting pairs of abstractions, modalities, personalities or collectives. This appreciation flies into the realms of art, music, dance and similar right brain and holistic perspectives. The Libra personality, being appreciative of these themes, frequently applies them in his life. The charm, intelligence, culture and elegance of a Libra archetype, therefore, all proceed from this paradigm. This sign also governs the natural exchange that occurs between actual processes and tangible objects of perceived equivalent value. When one is exchanged for the other, it is assumed that both follow the principle of equivalence, thus giving rise to commerce. All areas where harmony is the paramount principle are governed by this energy pattern. Scorpio is a model of alchemical intelligence. The power of transmutation and transformation reaches its greatest apex in this soul phase. Recalling the biological intelligence of the Taurus energy pattern, the Scorpio phase attempts to expand and deepen this experience by continuous awareness, management and alchemical transformations of its biological as well as non-biological resources. First, it is constantly aware of its biological

17 | Apr.-Jun. 2017

RESEARCH JOURNAL and non-biological potentialities, both in its own self and in its interactions with its environment. Secondly, being hyper aware of this microcosm of potentiality, it recognizes the possibilities of power plays, tactics and strategies as ways of dynamically interacting with its environmental parameters. The extreme form of this personality therefore engages in power struggles of various kinds as a way to test its own existential fitness and as a vector to acquire and maintain additional resources. Whereas its opposite sign, Taurus, is concerned with biological survival mostly, the Scorpio phase goes beyond that to contemplate biological and non-biological survival. Probing into the mysteries of the universe, the Scorpio personality therefore has a predilection to explore esoteric and occult knowledge to further its survivalist agenda. The Scorpio personality is at once an adept, a warrior, a lover and a progenitor. Sagittarius is a model of synthetic intelligence. This phase culminates the previous cognitive intelligence phase developed by the Gemini personality and takes it to the extreme. In the opposite sign of Gemini, the emphasis is on the assimilation of raw data of various kinds. Gemini can be a sampler of knowledge in this respect. There is an attempt at basic synthesis but it is limited to the appreciation and coordination of raw practical data. In the Sagittarius energy phase, the focus is on the integration, synthesis and evaluation of various kinds of data to give rise to models, hypothesis and theories which can explain these data sets comprehensively. The Sagittarius personality loves to integrate various kinds of data and also loves to theorize about possibilities and applications of those integrations. He is therefore the quintessential theorist, philosopher and mentor. Being extremely versatile, and combined with eloquence, this archetype also is the perfect mentor. Thus, while this personality is growing up, it is imperative that he explores various fields

Review of knowledge to get a feel of each. He will most likely have aptitude in more than one area of knowledge. As he is growing up, he must learn to coordinate this knowledge set into an integrated whole. The Sagittarius personality is a disciple of interdisciplinary thought. When mature, he will synthesize his various learning paradigms into comprehensive theories and models which he can convey to the next generation in whatever format he deems is appropriate. Thus, he frequently is active in writing, lecturing, mentoring and related stuff. This archetypal phase is also a fractal of the Wisdom Quest itself. This is the soul phase where the Seeker begins to be awakened to various esoteric, spiritual and mystical streams of knowledge which give tantalizing hints of the Ocean beyond. Sagittarius is the Seeker personified. Capricorn is a model of managerial intelligence. In this phase, the soul has accumulated many different experiences as he travelled through the various planes of existence, represented by the houses of the zodiac in archetypal form. Concomitant with this voyage is the assimilation and integration into its being of the various gifts obtained in these planes of experience. Capricorn is fortunate to learn from the past. And to imbibe the gifts of experience from previous eras. The courage of Aries, the common sense of Taurus, the sparkling wit of Gemini, the loving care of Cancer, the strength and talents of Leo, the consistency and accuracy of Virgo, the diplomatic flair of Libra, the depth of Scorpio and the breadth of vision developed by Sagittarius, its previous phase. Capricorn now assembles these various weapons and creates an organizational masterpiece that is rooted in the planes of matter. He tries to elevate the manipulation of matter into an art form. He combines the leftbrain power of science and the right-brain power of art to configure sociological frameworks that can withstand the forces of fate and time. He is trying to build a

Review citadel. A citadel that will stand as an everlasting memorial to his determination, practicality, prudence, business acumen, organizational leadership skills and vision. As an administrator, this energy represents the peak of archetypal power management. Because he possesses the ability of Virgo to master detail, Libra’s penchant for symmetry, Scorpio’s singular will to penetrate into the heart of a situation and the breadth of vision of Sagittarius. What differentiates it from the previous phase is that the Capricorn energy pattern is willing to spend energy and time on to his project building efforts. He knows, like Cancer, that in order for large social ventures to succeed, time itself must be coaxed, romanced and be used as a catalyst. Capricorn shares the gestational power of Cancer, but applies it to extremely large settings and ventures. He is the archetypal civilization builder. Aquarius is a model of holographic intelligence. In this phase, the individual archetypal patterns begin to sense the presence and influence of non-material planes of existence. It begins as a series of stimulating gifts from the realm of serendipity. These gifts may come in random packages. The ability of the soul to sense the presence of serendipity and associated higher realms is proportional to the work he applies in making his mind and whole being a conduit to this creative process. Thus, the Aquarius energy phase is really the stage where the soul is becoming extremely proficient in “listening” to the input of other non-material realms of thought. Aquarius is especially adept in creating a balance between individual creativity and group participation. As an iconoclast, he is sensitive to ultra-advanced modes of thought but he has the common sense not to disturb group social processes just to promote his own individuality. Certainly this balance is prominent in the mature personalities of this sign. Otherwise, the extraordinary ability of Aquarius to sense and receive inspiration from the higher

realms may become chaotic. This leads to the tendency of some of the personalities from this archetype to display eccentric behaviour. It is either that these types have been denied the individual expression of their uniqueness and creativity or they are unable to express it due to personal stress of some kind. On the positive side, since this energy pattern has high holographic intelligence, the natives of this sign are very tolerant of other individuals, their eccentricities and peculiarities. Pisces is a model of mystical intelligence. As the summation and culmination of the archetypal energies, the Pisces energy pattern can, in theory, access and utilize the gifts, strengths and potentialities of all the astrological family energies. In the same manner, he can express the negative qualities as well. This energy has a great potential for spiritual growth because he is tuned into higher spheres of existence. Whereas Aquarius is a vessel where the higher dimensions can pour their gifts, Pisces actually has experiences where he lives part of his existence in the pleasures of the higher dimensions. This zodiac sign therefore signifies the capacity of the soul to access larger and larger cycles of experience beyond the material universe itself. In practical terms, it is expressed in various ways. One is through the living harmonies of art, music and beauty. Another is through the ability to care for others, especially underprivileged classes of society. Another is the capacity to enjoy service even in habitats of seclusion, like monastic communities and hermitages. The Pisces energy pattern enjoys solitude because it allows the soul respite from the “noise” of the material plane. Finally, this soul phase has extreme predilection to enjoy the music of the spheres and the ethereal beauties of the higher planes of thought. Thus, he is most likely to enjoy a life of seclusion, meditation and loving service to all mankind. This is the archetypal avatar of mysticism.              r

Psoriasis and Astrology

P

By Jatinder Sandhu

soriasis is an immune-mediated disease that affects the skin. It is typically a lifelong condition. There is currently no cure, but various treatments can help to control the symptoms.

can be seen as an isolated sign. Psoriasis can also cause inflammation of the joints, which is known as psoriatic arthritis. Between 10% and 30% of all people with psoriasis also have psoriatic arthritis.

Psoriasis occurs when the immune system mistakes a normal skin cell for a pathogen, and sends out faulty signals that cause overproduction of new skin cells. It is not contagious. Psoriasis has been linked to an increased risk of stroke, and treating high blood lipid levels may lead to improvement. There are five types of psoriasis: plaque, gutate, inverse, pustular, and erythrodermic. The most common form, plaque psoriasis, is commonly seen as red and white hues of scaly patches appearing on the top first layer of the epidermis (skin). Some patients, though, have no dermatological signs or symptoms. The name psoriasis (ψωρίασις) is from the Greek language, meaning roughly “itching condition” (psora “itch” + -sis “action, condition”).

Diseases due to afflictions of the Karakas of houses.

In plaque psoriasis, skin rapidly accumulates at these sites, which gives it a silvery-white appearance. Plaques frequently occur on the skin of the elbows and knees, but can affect any area, including the scalp, palms of hands and soles of feet, and genitals. In contrast to eczema, psoriasis is more likely to be found on the outer side of the joint. The disorder is a chronic recurring condition that varies in severity from minor localized patches to complete body coverage. Fingernails and toenails are frequently affected (psoriatic nail dystrophy) and

A Novel Transit Principle

By O.D. Mande

Astrology is a divine subject which is invariably used, inter-alia, to make predictions concerning individuals as well as mundane entities like weather, prices of precious metals, industrial houses, Governments, nations etc. etc. Making correct prediction is a complex job and therefore an astrologer known for making correct predictions becomes respectable in society.

A

systematic approach to make a prediction would involve four stages viz. examination of horoscope( Birth chart, Navamsa chart, relevant divisional charts, assessment of planetary strengths, ashtakavarga, yogas etc) and use of appropriate dasas for broad timing of event, resort to varshaphal technique (Tajik/Tithi Pravesh) for closer timing and application of planetary transit dicta. This is a time consuming procedure which may take up to two hours even for experienced astrologers. Therefore, busy astrologers generally have to restrict the astrological examination to Birth chart, Moon chart, Vimsottari dasa and application of their favourite thumb rules of planetary transit. For planetary transits alone there are different options viz. single planet transit, double transit, triple transit etc. In this context the author would like to mention that Sh. P.V.R. Narasimha Rao, an eminent astrologer, has evolved five principles relating to the effects of transit planets, One of them is “ Padamsas and Transits” which means activation of longitude based padas (arudhas) of relevant houses by transiting planets, resulting in the fructification of a predicted event. This is somewhat similar to Latta of transit planets on janma nakshtra but far more versatile and precise. The principle is under –

lord or a planet related to that house in the natal rasi (birth) or divisional chart may be considered for transits.” Sh. Narasimha Rao suggests that not only full but 3/4th aspect may also be considered.

Calculation of Pada. Before going through examples illustrating the efficacy of this principle it is essential to understand the meaning of longitude based pada (arudh) in birth chart and divisional charts. Normally pada is sign based and has no longitude. But pada can have exact longitude like planets. To calculate longitude based pada one has to proceed as follows: Take the longitude of the cusp of a house. Take the distance from it to the planet owning the sign where the cusp is placed. Take the same distance from the planet. The point thus arrived at is the pada of the house. If the pada is between 0°– 30° or between 180º – 210° range from the cusp of the house, subtract three signs (90°) from it. Alternatively, add 9 Signs to it. This is analogous to shifting the sign based pada forward by 9 houses. If it falls in the same house or in the 7th from it.

“ At the time of a major event in life, an important planet has a close conjuction with, or close aspect on the natal divisional longitude of the arudha pada of a relevant house, in a relevant divisional chart. Nakshatra Mahadasa lord or Antardasa 22 | Apr.-Jun. 2017

In this horoscope the Lagna and Rashi are Libra and Gemini respectively. Mahadasha lord Saturn is 4th and 5th house lord and placed in Lagna in its exaltation sign. As per above mentioned astrological Yoga if 5th lord is in 5th or Lagna then the native begets child immediately after marriage. This Yoga worked for this horoscope and within one and half year of marriage she got her first baby girl. Navamsa 5th lord of birth chart is in a friendly sign in Navamsa and the significator Jupiter is exalted and that became the reason of quick child birth after marriage. Dasha At the time of birth of child Saturn/Rahu Dasha was in operation. (Dasha of 5th house lord and Antardasha lord is aspected by 5th lord). As per astrological Yogas the timing of birth of child is dependant on the 5th house, 5th lord and the Dasha of planets aspecting or owning 5th house. In this horoscope the Dasha/Antardasha are conducive for child birth as per this rule. Transit At the time of birth of child the 5th lord Saturn was transiting on Lagna in retrograde motion on natal Saturn and the significator Jupiter was also aspecting 5th lord Saturn. The double transit impact on 5th lord, Dasha lord and Antardasha lord is also active. So, the favourable transit resulted into child birth.

Review Birth Chart Analysis In this horoscope of Leo ascendant Saturn and Rahu are placed in Lagna. Rahu forming Kalsarp Yoga is giving aspect to 5th house. 5th lord exalted Jupiter is placed in 12th. The placement of 5th lord in 12th house cannot be appreciated. Jupiter is also the Karaka of 5th house so the karaka and 5th lord both are in bad house thus causing delay. In addition to that Rahu's aspect on 5th is also causing delay. In above given horoscope apart from 5th lord and the significator the dispositor of 5th lord is also very weak and that is why she could not beget children in her 16 years of marriage specifically as Dasha in operation was not conducive. In Jupiter/Jupiter Dasha chances were not much however now with the complete activation of Jupiter Dasha there are chances of child birth as 5th to 5th house is strong and the Saturn of transit is about to move into the 5th house. ConclusionThe above mentioned analysis indicates that three factors i.e 5th house, 5th lord and significator of 5th house should be strong in the chart of a person to expect fortunate, healthy and capable children's birth at desired time. Although dasha of 5th lord, dispositor of 5th lord, significator of 5th house, dispositor of significator, the planet occupying or aspecting 5th house or 5th lord and the planet conjunct with 5th lord, proves conducive for child birth but the less strength of above mentioned factors can delay the timing of child birth, whereas the complete affliction and zero strength of these planets can also result in the denial of progeny. In transit the activation of 5th house, 5th lord and significator of 5th with double transit impact speeds up this process especially if Dasha lord having direct relationship with 5th house is also under double transit impact.r

Usefulness of Vastu for Pregnancy By Pt. Gopal Sharma

Divine Gift for Betterment of Humanity

Integration of Energies

he divine ancient sciences of India viz., Jyotisha, Vastu, Yoga, Vedanta and Ayurveda were given to us on a platter; whereas people across the world are striving hard to get even a fraction & feeling blessed. We have to be intelligent in understanding these great Shastras and in the process, seek their help in betterment of our lives. We wish all mothers-to-be a happy and healthy, complete Vastubased pregnancy/ safe delivery, by adhering to the below guidelines.

Over the last few years, we have been seeing the rising importance of Vastu not only in India but also all over the world. Vastu shastra is based on the cosmic energies being emitted from various bodies all over the universe. These energies are an admixture of gravitational, solar, magnetic, thermal, electrical, mechanical and many unknown (to modern science) forms of energies.

T

When Brahmasthal, the centre of a house(controlling gravitational force) is disturbed, invariably there is lack of growth & misunderstandings among the family members/ employees. When placing of your head to the North or West(last priority) is not advised, perhaps, our saints took magnetic and thermal energies into consideration. When the North-east was referred to as Ishan or Devamoola and recommended for meditation etc. and the South-east was referred to as agneya and recommended for placement of a hearth, our saints & rishis were speaking, perhaps, of solar energy. Vastu The mother-to-be can then move into a North-east (Ishanya) room as is explained later. All classical works have clearly spelt out the place of the primary element Agni or Fire as the South-east of a Mandala. It is precisely for this reason that we do not advise a pregnant lady to live in this sector (or room). It is a known medical fact that heat has a great implication in pregnancy. Anything that raises the lady’s core body temperature can amplify congenital anomalies, mostly during the first three months, when all main organs of the foetus are forming.

electricity from a lightning strike, into the earth. If we observe carefully, temples of ancient times had lightning rods installed. Our saints were very much aware of electrical energies and these rods, perhaps, were used for grounding purposes.

Normally, a lady’s basal body warmth is higher during pregnancy. It is, therefore, advisable for the lady to keep herself away from and being too near a television, a computer or any electric gadget (that emanates electrical or electro-magnetic energies). This way, she can avoid increasing her internal temperature to a dangerous level without even being

Directional Guidelines This write-up is especially written for young mothers-to-be. Apart from taking the modern medical guidelines into consideration, Certainly some simple Vastu tips given here will help the ladies to bear a healthy child. It is in addition supportive to the normal medical advice/ practice of getting a check-up once in two weeks till the thirtysixth week and then weekly, until delivery. At each visit, blood pressure is recorded, urine is tested for sugar and protein, mother’s weight-gain is seen to check for swelling of the legs and face and to detect any development of hyper-tension and diabetes during pregnancy. Couples planning their progeny can use a North-west (Vayavya) room (primary element Air) until the onset of pregnancy. 28 | Apr.-Jun. 2017

Vastu aware of it. Normally, a woman dissipates body heat through her skin and breathing. The foetus that is growing has normally a temperature which is a little more than the mother’s and dissipates its heat across the placenta and through the mother’s blood stream. Foetal damage can occur if the mother or the foetus does not cool down quickly after the temperature of the core rises. Certain Finnish studies have revealed manifold increase of miscarriages in women using computers. Computers produce unusually high levels of extremely low frequency magnetic fields. The Southeast sector of the building and the Southeast sector of a room are places to be avoided by a pregnant lady at least for the first three months. Medical science tells us that by the end of the fourth month, almost all the major organs of the foetus are formed. The brain stem and the limbs are formed and begin to mature. Most pre-natal damage capable of causing birth defects occurs during this time. This period, commonly known as embryo-genesis, can cause organ-specific damage. However, brain development continues throughout the period of pregnancy. Therefore, there is really no safe period for strong intense bursts or continuous doses of electromagnetic frequencies during the months of pregnancy.

Thermal Heat Research on the effects of thermal and non-thermal electro-magnetic fields has shown reported 50 percent miscarriages in pregnant women who slept in electrically heated waterbeds. Thermal heat is, therefore, another factor that affects pregnancy. When the Eastern part of the earth is heated, its Western part remains cold. Consequently, thermal electricity generated by the Sun travels over the surface of the earth from East to West.

Therefore, pregnant ladies can avoid sleeping with their heads to the East. They can sleep with their heads to the South as natural polarity of the body is maintained and health of both the mother and the foetus is taken care of.

Beneficial Ultra Violet Rays The pregnant lady can sleep in a Northeast room. Vastu refers to the Northeast as Ishanya or Devamoola, thereby indicating it is a very important spiritually elevated zone. It is a known fact that the Sun’s rays can be split into 7 plus 2 colours. We speak of the Paramasayika mandala for human habitation (manushyalaya). This plan divides each side into 9 parts. Beginning from ultra-violet ray in the first part on the Eastern side corresponding to North-east, the Sun’s beneficial rays further split into violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red and infra-red in the last part corresponding to the South-east. Ultraviolet and the cold colours of the spectrum are said to have a soothing effect on the body and hence, the North-east room is recommended for a mother-to-be. Since blue has a cooling and astringent effect, a soft zero candle bulb, which burns in the room during night, is suggested. The other two colours of the cooling trio viz., violet and indigo can be alternated during the entire period of pregnancy. In case of pains, indigo can be an effective anaesthetic and can induce insensibility. Violet is said to be good for bone growth, maintaining the potassium and sodium balance of the body. Expectant mothers who regularly meditate will be happy to know what Leonardo Da Vinci has to say: “The power of meditation can be ten times greater under violet light.” To put it simply, violet is an inspiring and spiritual colour. Ultra violet ray, which is the head of the cold colours and is said to normalize all metabolism and glandular activities can also be used with advantage.

RESEARCH JOURNAL TIME-TESTED PRACTICAL TIPS FOR SAFE AND NORMAL DELIVERY • Having pleasant pictures like healthy smiling children, Gods, Flowers, greenery etc. in the room/ house is very good for the mothers. Paintings of dragons, wars and other violent images must be strictly avoided. They evoke tensions and feelings of unhappiness. • Get a Red Thread tied on the waist of the pregnant woman by her mother/ mother-in law/some other elderly lady which after delivery should be wrapped around the newly born child. This ensures safety of the child/ Mother throughout the pregnancy as also during/after the delivery. • Well before the time of labour pain, arrange for two new brass utensils, put sugar in one of them & keep it near the head on floor. The other should be kept empty along side, with lid closed. When the need of going to hospital arises, fill raw milk in the empty utensil. The pregnant woman should touch both the utensils before going to the hospital and pray for a safe delivery. • After the delivery donate both the things along with utensils in a religious place. If the delivery has taken place at night then donate in the morning. • Regularly seeking the blessings from the elders (Ladies & Gents) of the family is very very helpful in complete/ safe pregnancy. • If you are feeling weak, tired or are ill, try spending time in the East of your house. The East is believed to be ruled by Indra, the God of war and weather. Hence, Indra has power over the rising Sun, which is believed to have control over the bones, eyes, heart, spinal cord and blood circulation. • Playing around with different colours can make you feel more comfortable

Vastu during your pregnancy. A room painted in white is the most ideal for a pregnant lady. If plain white is too stark, opt for pearly or silvery white. • Never sleep or sit under beams, as they are made of concrete and iron. They tend to cause stress and may cause you to fall ill. • Avoid a toilet that is positioned under the stairway. You will be carrying negative vibes all around the house. • Do not keep any thorny plants like cactus or plants that give out a milky white sap (rubber plants) in your home. Stay away from bonsai plants too, as they symbolise retarded growth. • Staying in vibrant environment is important for pregnant women and keeping fresh flowers in the house including drawing and dining room is helpful. • Always sleep on the left side of husband and while stepping down from the bed keep right foot first on the floor. • Avoid wearing dark and lustrous colours during pregnancy such as black, dark red, orange etc. Such colours are indicative of lunar and solar currents. Pregnant women should only wear subtle and soft colours including light shades of green, blue, white and yellow. • Do not sit in dark and bleak rooms, there must be enough light in rooms for good vibrations. • Try to read influencing and motivational books including ancient holy texts. • Avoiding wall clocks, mirrors, water scenery on Southern walls of the room/ home will help not only in minimizing the various health problems but would also be of great help in diagnosis thereof. With God’s grace in hundreds of cases, we could assure normal safe delivery, without even surgery, with the help of above simple, spiritual yet scientific remedies.       r

Dreaded T-Junction, Overhead Beam & Fengshui Cures The Dreaded T-Junction

quite similar to the T-junction and suffers from the same problem.

n Feng Shui, Chi should flow slowly. If Chi is allowed to accelerate, as in a straight line, then the resultant fast flowing Chi becomes destructive and anyone standing in its path will suffer. The T-junction is an example of how Chi can accelerate and then bring to a sudden stop by the house located at the intersection. The occupants are the ones that will bear the brunt of the destructive Chi. Logically it makes sense too. There have been many cases of cars crashing into such homes either due to mechanical malfunction, drunk driving or simply due to carelessness. Also during the night time the headlights from vehicle at the intersection can disturb the occupants and prevent them from getting a good night’s rest. What is less obvious is the noxious fumes emitted by the vehicles that rush towards the house. In the long run, it can affect the health of the occupants. The same applies to a Y-junction which is

Such a house should not be bought. You will very likely find difficulty in securing a buyer or may be forced to accept a lower resale price. What if you are already staying in such a house and cannot move? You can block the strong incoming bad Chi using a wall or hedges. You can also relocate the main point so that it does not directly face the T-junction. In the long run, and especially if the traffic is heavy at the intersection, you are still better off moving to a more Feng Shui compliant house. Normally on both sides of the road leading to the intersection are trees or other houses which forms a channel. This channel acts as a guide that directs the wind (which contains ‘Chi’) very quickly towards the house. To the ancient Feng

RESEARCH JOURNAL Shui sages, slow moving ‘Chi’ is auspicious while fast moving ‘Chi’ is inauspicious and like a poison arrow or ‘sha’ that attacks the house. Also when cars approach the T junction, they create a low pressure area behind them. The surrounding air rushes to fill them in the process creates an air stream that follows the cars. When the cars turn at the intersection of the T-junction, the air stream does not turn with the cars but instead continues on a straight course towards the house generating more ‘sha’. As a general rule, it is not favourable to live in a house that faces a T-junction. There are however exceptions. If the traffic leading to the intersection is light or if the road leading to the intersection is short, then it is acceptable as the ‘sha’ or poison arrow thus generated is weak and unlikely to create much problem. Nevertheless, if you have not purchased the house, it is better to buy one that is not located at the T. The Flying Star School applies the principle that the surrounding form activates the star. Take the example of a period 7 house (built between 1984 and 2004) facing S1. The water (or wealth) star number 7 is located at the front. During period 7 (between 1984 and 2004) the water star 7 is highly auspicious. It is further strengthened if there is water in front of the house. Water can be real like a lake or river or virtual like a field or lower ground. It is also represented by movement. A T-junction in the front of the house is like water (movement) and it activates the auspicious water star of 7 thus bringing wealth (career also brings wealth) to the occupants. However, this can change with the passage of time. In the current period (8), the star number 7 is no longer auspicious. In fact it is linked to losses and injuries. Now instead of the traffic at the T-junction activating an auspicious star, now they are activating an inauspicious star with the potential to create losses - money and otherwise – and injuries. You can expect the luck of the

Fengshui occupants to take a turn for the worst. This is another reason why you should avoid living in a house that is located at the T-junction. Or if you are currently living in one and enjoying good fortune, be sure to know when to get out or carry out major renovation to effect a change in the period of the house. The Overhead Beam In Feng Shui study, the overhead beam is believed to generate downwards cutting (and inauspicious) Chi. If you sit or sleep underneath such beams for extended period of time, you may end up with illnesses or suffer relationship problems. Overhead beams are however a feature of most houses. If you are sitting or sleeping underneath, first of all you have to do is to reposition your chair or bed and avoid them completely.

But what if you cannot avoid them? It is recommend that you install a plasterboard (or similar) ceiling to shield the offending beam. In addition to where you sit or sleep, watch out for overhead beams over your stove and altar. The stove is a very important component of Feng Shui and an overhead beam pressing down on it is inauspicious. The Altar on the other hand is sacred and should be protected. Another area to look out for it is the main

Fengshui door. In some houses it is seen that one end of the overbeam rest on top of the door frame. This should be avoided. Overhead beams over locations that are infrequently used, for example the storeroom are not a problem.

that is afflicted by the inauspicious earth energy of 2 and 5 that relates to illness and misfortune. Let’s also suppose that you cannot use any other area for dining. What can you do?

Feng Shui Cures

The best thing to do if you suffer from a serious affliction is to move to another place. However if the afflictions are not so serious or you simply cannot move then you can apply Feng Shui cures to soften the impact. Let’s say that your house is located at the intersection of a busy ‘T’ or ‘Y’ junction is exposed to ‘killing’ or ‘sha’ energies. The cure would be to build a structure like a high wall fence between the road and the home to block off the ‘sha’. This is an example of a cure by blocking. Some experts will recommend placing a shiny metal plate to reflect the killing ‘sha’ Chi. This is an example of a Feng Shui cure by reflecting or deflecting. Suppose that your main door is directly facing a lamp post. You can relocate your main door or change the direction so that it does not face the lamp post. This is a feng shui cure by avoiding. Let’s move into the house. Suppose the dining area of your house sits in a sector

In the study of Feng Shui, we know that one Chi can affect another. For example in the exhaustive cycle of the Five Elements, metal can reduce earth Chi. In this situation, It can be recommended to keep metal in the dining area. This may be in the form of a clock with a large metal pendulum that chimes. Let’s suppose that your main door sits in a sector that has the metal stars 6 and 7 during a period where the star 7 is inauspicious. In this situation, recommendation should be made to move the door because 6 and 7 is associated with robbery and accidents (in the current period of 8). But let’s say that the door cannot be relocated. I would recommend placing a bowl of still water next to the door. Why? In the cycle of the Five Elements, metal produces water. In the process of producing water the metal energy is exhausted. Placing water exhaust the inauspicious metal energy. This is an example of a Feng Shui cure using the Five Elements.            r
