WHAT HAPPENS TO THIS FOOD WASTE?

an Anaerobic Digestion (AD) facility in Coleshill, North Warwickshire operated by Severn Trent Green Power, the UK’s largest producer of renewable energy from food waste.

Anaerobic digestion is the process by which organic matter such as food waste is broken down to produce biogas that can power 60,000 homes in the UK and a nutrient-rich liquid biofertilizer for farmland to help grow the fruit and vegetables that end up back on our plates. This process happens in the absence of oxygen in a sealed oxygen-free tank call an anaerobic digester.
