IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Serious adverse reactions have been reported following concomitant extra-label use of ivermectin with spinosad alone, one of the components of Trifexis chewable tablets. Treatment with fewer than three monthly doses after the last exposure to mosquitoes may not provide complete heartworm prevention. Prior to administration of Trifexis, dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection. Use with caution in breeding females. The safe use of Trifexis in breeding males has not been evaluated. Use with caution in dogs with pre-existing epilepsy. The most common adverse reactions recorded in clinical trials were vomiting, pruritus, lethargy and diarrhea. To ensure heartworm prevention, observe your dog for one hour after administration. If vomiting occurs within one hour of administration, redose with another full dose. Puppies less than 14 weeks of age may experience a higher rate of vomiting. For product label, including complete safety information, see page ©2013 Elanco TFX00477

DR. R. T. “BILL” GOLDSTON Lifetime Achievement Award The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented posthumously to R.T. “Bill” Goldston, who passed away a month after the Annual Awards Committee approved that he be honored by the FVMA with the bestowal of this most prestigious award. It was therefore a fitting tribute that the FVMA made the presentation to the family of Dr. Goldston during the Awards Ceremony and Officer Installation held in conjunction with its 84 th Annual Conference. Dr. Goldston pursued an illustrious career of professional distinction and service. His role as mentor and inspiration to others is extolled by those in the profession who worked alongside him. He was a pioneer in the field of Veterinary Medicine in Florida over the course of a career that spanned more than 40 years. As pioneer, Dr. Goldston was one of the first Board Certified Internists who developed one of Florida’s first referral practices. He is also remembered for his work to establish the Veterinary Technician program at St. Petersburg College where he was a member of the faculty. It is to the credit of the late Bill Goldston that Dr. Terry Clekis, who was an associate veterinarian in Dr. Goldston’s practice for several years, nominated him for the Lifetime Achievement Award, saying “Bill Goldston has truly demonstrated a love for the veterinary profession and has been totally active in organized veterinary medicine. He has inspired me to become a better veterinarian and to give back to my profession.” Dr. Goldston was instrumental in forming the Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Association and was the Veterinary Medical Director for the Clearwater Marine Science Center over several years. But above all, Dr. Goldston had a long and illustrious record of service and dedication to the Florida Veterinary Medical Association (FVMA).

He served the Florida Veterinary Medical Association as Co-Chairman of the FVMA ly Veterinary Technician Committee from 1972 to 1992. He became President of the Pinellas us o m County Veterinary Medical Society in 1976, was FVMA Finance Committee member hu t s from 1978 to 1981, member of the FVMA Executive Board from 1982 to 1988, Po ed d President Elect in 1988 and President in 1989. r

The President’s Award which is given by the FVMA President and the Executive Board in special recognition to honor an FVMA member’s dedication and service to the veterinary profession and to the community was presented this year to Geneva Keene Acor, DVM. Throughout her career in veterinary medicine, Dr. Acor has served as a friend and mentor to many of her colleagues. She has been eager to share her thoughts and experiences with those in need, while instilling trust and confidence. Dr. Acor was the first woman elected President of the FVMA in 1985. She was named Veterinarian of the Year in 1999. She has worked in industry with Hill’s Pet Nutrition, owned a companion animal practice, and has been an educator, as the first Director of the Brevard Community College Veterinary Technology Program. Commitment to organized veterinary medicine has been important to her in all of her career paths.
