We all know how challenging feline dental extractions can be. When it comes to dental extractions, cats aren’t small dogs. This lab will focus on the techniques, equipment and instruments that will ensure successful and complication-free feline extractions and crown amputations. Participants will be instructed how to surgically extract the maxillary and mandibular canines, maxillary fourth premolar, and mandibular first molar, as well as perform a crown amputation of the mandibular canine and third premolar with tension-free flap closure.
This lab will demonstrate basic surgical extraction techniques, which can be helpful for newer veterinarians who have not had as much dental training in school. The technique for oro-nasal fistula repair of a maxillary canine tooth extraction site will be included.

The laboratory portion will cover the lateral approach to the stifle, removal of the cruciate remnants, inspection of the meniscus and an overview of the meniscal release. Stabilization will be applied using the lateral suture technique with a focus on proper suture placement using proven isometric points. Highstrength orthopedic adjustable locking loops (OrthoZip by Everost) will be placed isometrically using OrthoZip posts and tightened. All attendees will have their repair critiqued by an experienced surgeon.
With Conf. Reg. Fee: Vets $475 Wet Lab Only Fee: Vets $675 Wet lab registration includes lunch. Improve your proficiency in performing practical eyelid and orbital surgeries while gaining an appreciation for the skill level required for most corneal and conjunctival procedures. Receive step-bystep instructions on tarsorrhaphies, temporary eyelid tacking, entropion correction, eyelid reconstruction, prolapsed third eyelid gland replacement, corneal debridement techniques and enucleation, including a review of conjunctival grafting and corneal laceration repair.

With Conf. Reg. Fee: Vets $475 Wet Lab Only Fee: Vets $675 Wet lab registration includes lunch. This seminar series and combined wet lab are designed for veterinarians who want to further their training in small animal ultrasound. Lectures will briefly review ultrasound physics and artifacts, while assisting the participants in fine-tuning the image. Normal intra-abdominal structure will be reviewed, and abnormal intra-abdominal pathology will be emphasized. Wet lab participants will gain experience in completing a routine small abdominal ultrasound examination, knowledge of normal sonographic anatomy and the appearance of commonly identified pathologies. Some of the more challenging intra-abdominal structures to image will be emphasized. Interaction between the radiologist and the participants will be encouraged, and the attendees will have an opportunity to address personal areas of concern in their understanding of abdominal ultrasound scanning techniques.

This lab and hands-on workshop is a comprehensive introduction and exercise in veterinary endoscopy for companion animals. During the classroom portion, participants will learn the anatomy and basics of both flexible and rigid endoscopes, as well as common endoscopic procedures in cats and dogs, including upper respiratory and gastrointestinal inspections. The hands-on laboratory portion gives attendees the opportunity to work closely with wireless flexible endoscopes (Endo-i by STERIS Animal Health) and endoscopy models to perform a variety of skill-based tasks, including navigation, grasping, retrieval, insufflation, suction and biopsies. The attendees will have their skills critiqued by an experienced, boarded veterinary internist.
This lab will focus on extraction and flap closure of more difficult teeth, such as mandibular canine teeth, mandibular first molars and maxillary molars. A technique will be presented for the removal of fractured root tips.

Do you ever struggle with the cause of dyspnea in a cat that is too unstable to take radiographs or draw blood for ProBNP levels (cardiac, respiratory, pleural effusion)? Do you ever debate if you can safely give a patient IV fluids or when you should stop giving IV fluid boluses? Have you ever felt frustrated not finding a cause for patients presenting for “ain’t doing right” with no specific clinical signs? Veterinary point-of-care ultrasound (VPOCUS) can help you manage these patients! VPOCUS techniques are rapid, easy-to-learn and practical ultrasound skills that ANY practitioner can apply in every day practice. VPOCUS is commonly used as a patientside diagnostic tool to rapidly identify underlying conditions and help direct further diagnostics and therapy. VPOCUS has a high sensitivity and specificity for the detection of abdominal effusions; other abdominal applications; and several thoracic, vascular and cardiac pathologies. Through four hours of comprehensive and interactive lectures (and lots of banter between the two lecturers!) with several case examples followed by a three-and-a-half hour hands-on laboratory on live animals, participants will have the opportunity to learn and practice the skills of VPOCUS. In addition, vascular access techniques using ultrasound will be discussed and practiced on a phantom chicken breast model.
This four-hour laboratory will teach general small animal practitioners techniques (mostly internal medicine based) that seem too hard or they are unfamiliar with but are actually simple, cheap and feasible. The laboratory will use innovative models, and each attendee will also take home detailed handouts and narrated slide sets (photos/videos). Learning objectives: 1.) Collect bone marrow aspirates and core biopsies, including marrow smear preparation techniques. 2.) Perform manual platelet counts, activated clotting times and in-saline slide agglutinations. 3.) Perform blind bronchoalveolar lavage and blind nasal biopsies. 4.) Perform joint taps.

This wet lab consists of a one-hour lecture discussing safety, terminology, normal and abnormal anatomy, basic pathology and labial mounting of dental radiographs, followed by hands-on training. Learn how to obtain a diagnostic intra-oral radiograph using the latest state-of-the-art equipment taught by some the most highly trained veterinary technicians in veterinary dentistry. There is a low teacher-to-student ratio to ensure everyone takes all the images necessary to obtain full mouth radiographs of a dog and cat using cadaver heads. This is the most effective way to learn intra-oral dental radiography because it imitates real-life patients without the stress of having to monitor anesthesia while trying to learn at the same time.
The first part of this wet lab is a lecture that will explain instrument handling, cleaning and sharpening; the importance of proper cleaning technique; probing; and charting. The lecture also describes landmarks, drug doses, benefits, contraindications and complications of dental regional blocks. Following is a detailed, hands-on wet lab providing instruction on the proper way to do a complete dental prophylaxis and oral examination, including accurate charting. Attendees will learn how to properly handle instruments using the latest state-ofthe-art equipment taught by some the most highly trained veterinary technicians in veterinary dentistry. There is a low teacher-to-student ratio to ensure everyone receives individual instruction while probing, cleaning, and charting the mouth of a dog and cat using cadaver heads. This is the most effective way to learn correct and safe techniques because it imitates real-life patients without the stress of having to monitor anesthesia while trying to learn at the same time. We will go over the correct placement and administration of local block analgesia using cadaver heads and skulls until the attendees are comfortable.
