from the Head of School Welcome
Dear Falcon Families,
Since Fort Worth Country Day’s founding in 1963, our student-athletes have proudly competed in interscholastic sports. FWCD won its first championship in 1969, and the Falcons have claimed over 150 titles in the Metroplex Independent School Conference (MISC), the Texas Independent Schools Conference (TISC), Texas Association of Private Schools (TAPS), and the Southwest Preparatory Conference (SPC), further cementing our commitment to excellence in athletics.
Our program is built on the heart of our students, the dedication of our coaches, and the unwavering support of our fans. This fall, every team, student-athlete, coach, parent, guardian, and fan will contribute to the evergrowing history of Falcon athletics. We look forward to the memories that will unfold in our gyms and on our fields throughout the 2024-25 season.
We are eager for all Falcon fans to keep lending their voices, cheers and support for our student-athletes. Whether it’s a steady clap or a burst of excitement, it means the world to all those immersed in competition. Your presence and enthusiasm elevate the game.
As we cheer from the bleachers, please keep FWCD’s core values top of mind. We aspire to bring courage and kindness, integrity and respect to all that we do. We can be so proud when our visitors, the athletes, the parents, the fans and the referees, leave our campus commenting on how hard we competed, and how respectful we were as opponents. Good sportsmanship matters. Together, let’s make this a season to remember for all of the best reasons –on and off the field.
Go Falcons!
Eric Lombardi Head of School
from the Athletic Director Welcome
Dear Falcon Fans,
Saying goodbye to 2023-24 is bittersweet. We want to celebrate last year’s successes – 15 of our teams finished in the Top 4 of the SPC Tournament; our student-athletes won 42 SPC medals; three teams won championships, and five finished as runners-up; 11 School records were set; two teams won SPC Sportsmanship Awards. However, as C.S. Lewis says, “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” So, let’s move on!
We are excited to kick off the 2024-25 year in athletics. Morning practices for football and cross country, the annual Field Hockey Sunrise Game, trips to Houston and Austin for our volleyball teams, terrific cheerleading halftime routines – we’re already in the swing of things, and we’re looking forward to a busy fall.
The fall season will culminate in the SPC Championships in Dallas. We cannot predict where our teams will be seeded or how we’ll perform in the tournament. We can, however, say assuredly that our teams and coaches will compete with great effort and honor. We will represent Fort Worth Country Day well on the fields, courts, courses and sidelines.
Athletics is a community effort. Parents, administrators, officials, fans, bus drivers, clock and bookkeepers, announcers …. everyone is united in a common goal: to give our student-athletes an opportunity to compete to the best of their abilities. We are grateful for your support, and we feel confident you will take pride in the performances you’ll see over the course of the season.
Go Falcons!
Leigh Block Director of Athletics
Falcon Club
The Falcon Club is Fort Worth Country Day’s athletic booster club. The organization supports all teams at the varsity, junior varsity and Middle School levels, and Lower School and Middle School PE programs. All Falcons, JK-12, benefit from the financial support the Falcon Club gives to the Athletic Department.
Falcon Club memberships, program ads and merchandise sales provide funds to improve the FWCD athletic programs with items and activities not covered under the athletic operation budget. In addition to hosting cookouts and Falcon Rally pizza parties for fans, Falcon Club purchase highlights of the past few years include soccer goals, volleyball standards and basketball goals; gym chairs, score tables and wall padding; water cows, EpiPens and AEDs; a baseball field home plate halo, awards boards, an ice machine, our climbing wall, video equipment, portable scorers carts for our field, and Boombah bags for student-athletes; and contributions toward the baseball mound turf and softball lights. And that is only part of the complete list!
The Falcon Club welcomes new members and encourages volunteering! Not only is membership a fun way to meet parents and guardians and support FWCD, but it also keeps you informed and involved in the School’s athletic program. Some ways to help coaches and athletes include running the time clock, moving the chains at football games, or working in the concession stand or the Falcon Nest Spirit Shop.
Check out the Falcon Club webpage on the FWCD website for more information about membership: fwcd.org/falconclub.
We look forward to seeing you in the stands and on the sidelines, cheering on our Falcon teams.
