Boston Lodge Engineering Works has the unique distinction of being the only railway workshop in the World to have constructed steam locomotives in the 19th, 20th and 21st Centuries... With the remarkable uplift in output required to support the rebuilding and development of the Welsh Highland Railway, Boston Lodge has gathered a skilled workforce capable of building locomotives, carriages, waggons and boilers from the ground up - and, in so doing, gained an enviable reputation for the quality restoration and repair of a wide range of vehicles and equipment in the heritage sector. Our locomotive engineering capacity stretches from 'petite' Quarry Hunslets to those giants of the narrow gauge, the Welsh Highland Railway's Beyer-Garratt locomotives. Using skills and equipment amassed in recent years, we continue to maintain the capability to build such machines from new - or to restore from any condition. Our most recent delivery is Bagnall 0-4-2T 'Isaac', which was overhauled on behalf of a private owner for the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway. Our carriage works has produced more than twenty new carriages in the last decade - and we have also extended our capabilities to work on smaller standard gauge vehicles. We were particularly pleased to be chosen to work with the London Transport Museum and the Heritage Lottery Fund in the restoration of Metropolitan Carriage No.353 - as part of the celebrations of '150 Years of the Underground'. Our reputation is highly regarded both nationally and internationally and our services are frequently in demand from local business. We are regularly commissioned to carry out repairs on industrial machinery. Two of our most recent projects involve adapting trucks for use at a local slate quarry and engineering industrial mixers for a Caernarfon based firm.
Let Us Help You‌
Our 2014 Portfolio gives an insight into the wide range of projects that we have been involved with. We understand that no two projects are ever the same and that the services and support needed can go far beyond the physical engineering work. We take time to interpret our customers needs carefully before creating the right proposal for you and your organisation. Please do contact us if you would like to discuss your particular requirements...
