Shana's Crochet Hook Tidy This hook tidy was designed for my own use, but due to popular demand I'm releasing this pattern taken from my rough notes, so be prepared to make any necessary adjustments. American Crochet Terms used throughout. Materials: DK weight yarn in Cream, Pink & White 4.00mm hook Card Plasticine Safety Eyes Stuffing Stitch marker, Base, Body, Head and Arms are worked in the round Finished Size: Approximately 6”/15cm diameter (base), and 12”/30cm high Abbreviations: ch - chain sc - single crochet dc – double crochet sl st - slip stitch sk – skip st(s) – stitch(es) mc – magic circle inc – increase dec – decrease yo – yarn over beg - beginning

Base Make 2 in Cream. Foundation Round Into mc, 1ch, 6sc. (6 sts) Round 1 Inc in each st around. (12 sts) Round 2 *1sc, inc* around (18 sts)

Round 3 *2sc, inc* around (24 sts) Round 4 *3sc, inc* around (30 sts) Round 5 *4sc, inc* around (36 sts) Round 6 *5sc, inc* around (42 sts) Round 7 *6sc, inc* around (48 sts) Round 8 *7sc, inc* around (54 sts) Round 9 *8sc, inc* around (60 sts) Round 10 *9sc, inc* around (66 sts) Round 11 *10sc, inc* around (72 sts) Assembly Cut 2 circles of card to fit within the Base and sandwich some plasticine or similar between the card to add a bit of weight. Place the card between the 2 Bases and crochet together around the edge.

Body In Cream. Foundation Round 72ch, 1sc in first ch to join, 1sc in each ch around. (72 sts) Rounds 1 – 3 1sc in each st around. Round 4 *10sc, dec* around. (66 sts)

Rounds 5 – 7 1sc in each st around. Round 8 *9sc, dec* around. (60 sts) Rounds 9 – 11 1sc in each st around. Round 12 *8sc, dec* around. (54 sts) Rounds 13 – 15 1sc in each st around. Round 16 *7sc, dec* around. (48 sts) Rounds 17 – 19 1sc in each st around. Round 20 *6sc, dec* around. (42 sts) Rounds 21 – 23 1sc in each st around. Round 24 *5sc, dec* around. Round 36 *2sc, dec* around. (18 sts) Rounds 37 – 39 1sc in each st around. Round 40 *1sc, dec* around. (12 sts) Rounds 41 – 42 1sc in each st around. Fasten off. Assembly Cut a half circle of card to make a cone to fit inside the body, then add sufficient stuffing to give it solidity. Join to base by slip stitching around.

Head In Cream. Foundation Round Into mc, 1ch, 8sc. (8 sts) Round 1 *1sc, inc* around. (12 sts) Round 2 *1sc, inc* around. (18 sts) Round 3 *2sc, inc* around. (24 sts) Round 4 1sc, inc, *3sc, inc* around, 2 sc. (30 sts) Round 5 *4sc, inc* around. (36 sts) Rounds 6 – 14 1sc in each st around. (You can add the safety eyes on Round 10, or wait until the head is finished) Round 15 *4sc, dec* around. (30 sts)

Round 16 *3sc, dec* around. (24 sts) Round 17 *2sc, dec* around. (18 sts) Round 18 *1sc, dec* around. (12 sts) Round 19 1sc in each st around. Fasten off. Assembly Lightly stuff head. Hair Take a piece of card approximately 6” x 2” and wind yarn around evenly to a width of about 1.5”, then back-stitch along the top edge to fasten the yarn in place before cutting through the yarn on the opposite edge. You can make one large hair piece, or several, and stitch to the top of the head. (see basic tutorial on my website for further information)

Arms Make 2 in Cream. Foundation Round Into mc, 1ch, 3sc. (3 sts) Round 1 Inc around. (6 sts) Round 2 Inc around. (12 sts) Rounds 3 – 4 1sc in each st around. Round 5 *2sc, dec* around. (9 sts) Round 6 + 1sc in each st around, continue to sc around until arm measures 3.5”/9cm long, lightly stuffing as you progress. Press top together and sl st closed, leaving a length of yarn for sewing to body.

Assembly Sew arms either side of body approximately 4 rows from the top.

Dress In Pink with White trim. Foundation Row 81ch, 1sc in 2nd st, 1sc in each ch across, 1ch, turn. (80 sts) Row 1 – 12 1sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. On last row, change to White. Row 13 – 15 In White, 1sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. On last row change to Pink. Row 16 – 27 In Pink, 1sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. Row 28 Fold dress in half so the Foundation Row is behind, 1sc in 1st st AND 1st loop on Foundation Row, *4sc, 1sc in next st AND corresponding loop on Foundation Row (sk 4 loops)* across, then 3sc, 1sc in last st AND corresponding loop on Foundation Row. Row 29 4sc, dec, *8sc, dec* across, 4sc, 1ch, turn. (72 sts) Row 30 5sc, dec, *10sc, dec* across, 5sc, 1ch, turn. (66 sts) Row 31 4sc, dec, *9sc, dec* across, 5sc, 1ch, turn. (60 sts) Row 32 – 33 1sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. Row 34 4sc, dec, *8sc, dec* across, 4sc, 1ch, turn. (54 sts) Row 35 – 36 1sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. Row 39 – 42 1sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. Row 43 3sc, dec *6sc, dec* across, 3sc, 1ch, turn. (42 sts) Row 44 – 46 1sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. Row 47 2sc, dec *5sc, dec* across, 3sc. Fasten off. (36 sts) Bib In Pink. With wrong side facing, make a slip knot on hook and sc in 15th sc, 1sc in each of next 7 sc, 1ch, turn. (8 sts) Row 1 – 5 1sc in each st across, 1ch, turn. Fasten off after last row. Shoulder Straps In Pink, make 2 leaving enough yarn to sew to dress and bib. Foundation Row 22ch, 1sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, 1ch turn. (21 sts) Row 1 Sl st across, fasten off. Finishing Sew in all ends. With right side facing, and using White, make a slip knot on hook and join yarn into 1st st at top of dress with a sl st, sl st across and evenly around bib, then along the other side. Fasten off, sew in ends. With right side facing and using White, make a slip knot on hook and join yarn with a sl st into 1st loop of Foundation Row of Dress, (where the sc join is), [3ch, sl st in same loop] 3 times, sl st in next 3 loops, *sl st into next loop of sc join, [3ch, sl st in same loop] 3 times, sl st in next 4 loops* across, sl st into last loop and fasten off. Sew in ends. Sew shoulder straps to bib, then place the Dress on the Body, sew up the back seam, then shoulder straps making sure they cross at the back. Sew in any loose ends.
